I fell in love with Destin about 25 years ago when my boss in Dallas offered my family (husband and four children) the use of his condo for our vacation.  I had never heard of Destin but we said what the heck, we’ll try it since it was free and we didn’t have much money to take a family vacation.  That was it!  We fell in love with the beautiful white sandy beaches and the emerald green waters of the Gulf of Mexico.  We came here every year since, and fulfilling our dream, we moved here permanently in 2005 to live out our golden years.  Well, living out the golden years lasted about three months. I realized that I wasn’t ready to sit in my rocking chair and do nothing.  I decided to try something that sounded fun and had flexible hours so I would still have time to spend with my husband, Paul, of almost 45 years.  I am so blessed that my husband Paul is with me.  In 2000 he had cardiac arrest and was dead for over ten minutes.  When I got to the hospital they told me Paul would be a vegetable (his vegetable of choice was a turnip) for the rest of his life.  If any of you know Paul he is anything from a turnip.  The doctors at Parkland Hospital in Dallas said there is no medical reason that Paul should be alive but he is and I treasure every moment I have with him.  He is truly the love of my life and my best friend.Being one of eight children, growing up in Marlboro, Massachusetts, gave me all of the tools I felt necessary to be a successful Realtor.  You need excellent negotiation skills (try to get a point across when dealing with four brothers and three sisters); being a team player, persistence and patience all helped me in my success in real estate.After leaving Massachusetts in 1980 we moved to Dallas where my four children grew up.  Nicole, Paul, Jr., and Danielle and their families still live in the Dallas area and my son Steve and his family live in the Orlando area.  I have nine wonderful grandchildren ranging from ages 3 to 17.I have been truly blessed in my three years at Keller Williams.  The training and people at KW have been instrumental in making my real estate career more successful than I could ever imagine.  When I started at KW I attended every class, sometimes more than once, and I also attended training at ECAR to help me to learn as much as I could and it really paid off.  The more you know the more confident you get and the more buyers/sellers respect your opinion.  I have also been fortunate to get some clients that are truly loyal to me and I asked them what they wanted most in a Realtor and they said CUSTOMER SERVICE and knowledge.  They don’t expect you to know everything but if you don’t know something you’d better find out and get back to them in a timely matter.

A:  There is nothing typical in short sales since each lender is different.  The best thing to do is to write a contract with a 3 month close date and a 45 day extension on the short sale addendum.  If it closes before that, you are a hero, if it takes a little longer, the buyer may be more inclined to sign an extension since they have already invested so much time.  Make sure your buyer’s expectations are right.  Let them know up front that it will take time.  The rewards are there if they are patient.  There are certain other things that the contract should contain, like “as is”, use the right closing agent and a real EMD.  For more details, come to the next short sale class offered.  Even if you don’t want to deal with short sales, learn about them so you can assist your buyers and sellers, then refer them to the expert.

Today she received two honors at the Destin Middle School 8th grade graduation. The 8th grade teachers give out a Marlin of the Year honor to two students and two adults. This year Mary Rose and her husband, Reds, were honored with this award. When they were describing the meaning of this award,  this awesome couple came to my mind immediately. Mary Rose and Reds are volunteering at the school everytime the door is open and there is a need, I mean EVERY time!!!  

Then, as the principal, Mr. Britt, was saying his bitter sweet parting words (he retired this year) he called Mary Rose out of the audience and honored her personally again with a Dozen Red Roses for all she had done for him during his time as principal !! So give her a big hug and congratulations the next time you see her.

Way to go Mary Rose!!!!
