Happy National ScrapBook Day!

I've been working on a little project with my daughter. She spent a few weeks in Europe this summer and we are putting together an art journal documenting her trip. It has really been a fun process and has me thinking once again about jumping in and doing Allie Edwards December Daily. If you haven't seen this project, check it out here. I absolutely love how her 2008 album turned out, just not sure if I can make the time commitment!

At the same time, I've been thinking about joining Jessica Sprague's FREE Holidays in Hand class which starts November 16th. Jessica's classes are amazing, so if you have never tried one, here's a chance to do so for free and see how you like it.

I know, Halloween was last weekend and I'm already talking about Christmas (sorry)... I have a grab bag in the shop at The DigiChick - and it just happens to have a Christmas theme. We also have a sale going on at TDC from now thru Sunday for 35% off everything in the shop (except the Grab Bags!)

I have had the pleasure of working with creashens on a collab for the last few weeks... she is an amazing designer and a fun little chickie who happens to be guesting at TDC this month! I think you are going to love what we came up with and I'm sure Shen is going to have some other fabulous goodies in the shop as well. For this week only, Any Given Day is on sale at TDC for 30% off. Documenting My Life

I've been thinking about scrapbooking a lot lately. Not scrapbooking products, but actual scrapbooking pages... I have a confession to make: I've been designing for over 2 years now and I have very little to show for it in the way of scrapping my own life. I love looking in the galleries and I religiously follow Allie Edwards, Cathy Zielske and Jessica Sprague, but as far as getting my own words and pictures on paper (or digital paper!) - I just haven't done it.

So... after looking at the boxes and boxes of old photos that I have and trying to decide just how I should go about this - I decided to take a class, actually I took two. One from Cathy Zielske (everyone can write a little) and one from Jessica Sprague.

One of the things that has kept me from scrapping is the quality of my photos. Don't get me wrong, I love all my old pictures but let's face it, photography has come a long way since 1984. As a designer, when I finish a kit I want a really fabulous picture to show it off. I have none of those in my boxes. What I do have are a lot of really memorable stories.

Armed with some very cool tips from Jessica Sprague - I finished my very first page. Rather than attempt to scrap all of my old pictures in chronological order ( I am just not that organized) I decided to randomly scrap whatever strikes my fancy. This first page was done because I am heading to the cabin for a girls weekend. I've been going to this cabin for over 30 years and in anticipation of the weekend, I dug out my old cabin pictures and came across this one of my son Jake. This was Jake's second trip to the cabin, his first was when he was only about 3 weeks old. For the photos I added a vintage touch by adding a sepia toned layer, desaturating the photo a little and putting a texture overlay on top. I then added a Through the Viewfinder frame I downloaded from Jessica's class. I love how the photos turned out - I think it hides the fact that these aren't great pictures to begin with. If you like the look, you can also purchase similar frames from Paisley Press (I own those too!)

As you can see, there is no journaling - I'm still not ready for that yet! ha ha ha...

Welcome to my brand spankin' new blog! I'm very into new and fresh right now. Must be that spring is on the way. Or, maybe it's knowing I have to host a graduation party in June. I've been looking at my house and wishing it was shiny and new instead of old, worn and in desperate need of a good cleaning! (but why would I clean when I can scrap instead?)

Anyway, a clean office and a shiny, new blog will have to do for now... I'm still working some of the kinks out of the blog design. For instance - what is with the little tools (is that a wrench?) in the sidebar and how does one remove those? If anyone knows the answer to this question, I would love to hear from you!
