When I shared periodic snapshots to socials during our Fourth of July beach week, my messages lit up with requests for links. So, I figured it would be easiest and most helpful to recap what I wore here, in one place. This trip, I challenged myself to pack only red, white, and blue pieces, creating an Americana vacay wardrobe that could mix and match from beach days and pool time to casual afternoons and dinner. Having such a specific aesthetic and color combo for the trip made packing surprisingly simple, and I loved how everything coordinated without feeling repetitive. Below is a recap of every outfit I wore, along with the individual pieces and links in case you’re planning a patriotic weekend, a summer beach vacation, or just looking for versatile warm-weather staples. *Posts on KelleyNan.com may contain affiliate links. I wore the cropped tee I’ve been raving about, along with gauze shorts for the roadtrip, and directly to a casual dinner outside on the water with a walk on…

We’re on a budget and with long planned trips (like our recent summer rendezvous in Maine), annual dates (all three of us have birthdays within a week or so of each other), end of school, etc. etc. etc., it was even more important to be as cost conscious as possible for Eliza’s 7th birthday. Last year, we had a weekend getaway in lieu of a party but this year, Eliza wanted to have friends for a pool party, as she did two years ago. We had just hosted her softball team for an end of season pool party, so fortunately, we were fresh and well practiced on the setup and prep routine. So, back to the budget birthday party — I love a theme and I love little moments, but at this stage, we aren’t big on kid parties with huge expenses. I’m a big proponent of 90s-style kid party energy, and TBH, I think Eliza would probably LOVE a birthday party at a fast food restaurant with a playground, haha. I’d rather DIY the decor and allocate any hefitier fees to entertainment but with a pool, we get off pretty easy not really having to provide extra activities. So,…

We love heading out of town for our annual family trip as soon as school wraps in late May. Thus far, lodging is typically more modestly priced before June hits, and our activities have been far less crowded than peak times. Continuing with our love for exploration and national parks, this year, we decided that Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, and northern coastal Maine would be our focus. I’ve been to Maine a few times but never north of Portland and never in the spring/summer. We had such a great time and while it wasn’t the most efficient schedule (I’ll elaborate in the post), we loved every bit, did a ton, and I’ve been dying to share some of our snapshots and highlights from our family trip to Maine. *Posts on KelleyNan.com may contain affiliate links. It was a six-night trip with five full days and we went in with a plan but stayed flexible and pivoted a few times.
For years, our back porch — specifically the covered portion — was one of those spaces that looked perfectly fine, but it wasn’t actually serving our family very well. The furniture was over ten years old, the layout wasn’t ideal, and we rarely found ourselves spending much time there. And with the pool installation, it was used even less frequently and felt even more disjointed since it didn’t feel like an extension of that space where we’d invested so much. It had become a space we passed through rather than a space we enjoyed. This spring, we finally decided it was time to change that. *Posts on KelleyNan.com may contain affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Click HERE for full disclosure. Before: Plenty of Seating, Not Much Conversation The porch was anchored by a large sectional that had seen better days. While it technically offered plenty of seating, the arrangement didn’t encourage conversation or make the best use of the space. Keep in mind, this covered section is modest in size, at best — about 9’x9′. Over the years, we’ve learned that we (and guests) are much more likely to gather when seating faces one another, rather…

I initially thought I would be sharing my best beach read recommendations for 2026, but “beach reads” to me are typically light romances or maybe atmospheric, bingeable thrillers. While a lot of my fave summer recommendations are exactly that, some of my top reads of the year wouldn’t qualify as either and are more emotional, literary, or quiet in their story. I wouldn’t classify every top or even 5-star book I’ve read this year as a “vacation read” but each of the 11 books I’m including on today’s list absolutely earn their spot on the packing list. The best vacation books do more than simply pass the time… they transport you. Whether you’re lounging poolside, settling into a beach chair, listening on your roadtrip or escaping during a morning stroll, these standout reads offer everything from heartwarming and laugh out loud romance with unforgettable characters, to twisty suspense and stories that will stay with you long after summer ends. *Posts on KelleyNan.com may contain affiliate links.
I’m still not sure if the analog hobby craze has totally taken over or if I’m just believing everyone else is jumping onboard because that’s what my social algorithms show me. But, within the analog hobby arena, I have specifically fallen in love with creating and I don’t think I’ve ever been as crafty in my life as I am right now. *Posts on KelleyNan.com may contain affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Click HERE for full disclosure. More and more, I’ve noticed how much I look forward to these little analog pockets of creativity… the hands-on projects, the colorful schemes and details, the playful ideas, the individualized and custom creations things that make me want to carve out time just because they’re fun and satisfying with a feeling of accomplishment (not for anyone other than myself). In a world that can feel so digital and overstimulating, I’m believing that the growing popularity in stepping back in time into simple pleasures is here to stay. These creative outlets have become little reminders that making something (or styling something, or embellishing something, or simply playing with an idea) can be enough.
I haven’t shared a Snack Around the Plate since last August and I was desperate to share some of the randomness going on around here. I could have kept going but I had to cap it at some point, so let’s go ahead and jump into the latest! *Posts on KelleyNan.com may contain affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Click HERE for full disclosure. What is a “Snack Around the Plate”? Growing up, this was the phrase my mom called meals she would assemble with random favorites when scouring the pantry and fridge. And, while each item didn’t totally go together, assembled as one collective, I loved them! Basically, “Snack Around the Plate” posts are just a smorgasbord of randomness — “a little of this and a little of that” from all things lifestyle. It’s a mish-mosh highlight reel from a favorite recipes to favorite finds. 1. Preppy Fits I have fully embraced my ballpark sports mom identity and dressing up my athleisure and casual basics just a smidge on game days has been so fun. I love a cap, a comfy trouser, a pullover/button down, slides and sneakers, and a cute scarf to top it off. This…

I’m hopeful the annual invasive, notorious, yellow coating of pine pollen is mostly finished, we’re back from our Texas visit, and pool season has commenced, which means it’s high time we get it together and work on completing our yearly outdoor spring clean-up! We actually had fresh mulch put down yesterday, I picked up some new outdoor dining chair cushions, we’ve *started* planting, I replaced the boxwoods in the big planters at the pool area, but there’s still a lot of items on the to-do list. Today, I’m sharing some of the updates I’ve made in the past couple of days to zhuzh up our outdoors, and since the biggest addition is also part of the annual 3-day Way Day Sale, I’m sharing nine favorites from the event! *Posts on KelleyNan.com may contain affiliate links.
