Principal Photography Underway for Rememberingfilm.com’s Latest Project

Principal photography for Remembering is in full swing this June, with the team actively sharing updates on their official Instagram account, @rememberingfilmintheworks. The shoot kicked off on June 1, as announced in their first post: “Principal photography has officially started! We just finished the Christmas season, and I am thinking anew about the Advent season.

When God invaded a world of His own making - in the form of a helpless baby.

The world had rebelled more than once - continually actually. Many had tried to supplant God with anything else, even ultimately with themselves.

And yet Advent is a coming by God. Incarnation in the least imposing way imaginable - as a baby born to poor parents under a repressive Roman empire. Refugees chased out of their own land by a deranged local leader seeking to secure his power base.

Who doesn't love a kick of excitement or the sensation of euphoris? To palpably feel the presence of God, experience the closeness of the supernatural and swim in the place where eternity seems to kiss the earth.

But no one lives for long on adrenalin.

May God grant us the ability to breathe consistently, to walk when the ability to run subsides, and the heart to continue to beat .

Run and Hide

A noise, a crack, the explosive sound of bullets, the rising of the dust as they hit the ground.

After the bomb, the pulse jumps, reacts to the suddenness. A whoosh of adrenalin, a widening of the pupils. The arm hairs stand erect, the forehead displays immediate beads of sweat.

The knees buckle ever so slightly. Should I be ready to flee, to run, to hide? Where can I even go that will be better than here, or safer than my current position.

All of the options uncertain with no way to know the best choice.

Do I hide?

Run?

Flee?

The perceived need for action, to do something is great but the results of what can actually be done are minimal.

Who will help me? Who will help us?

(Written as I was thinking of the current tragedy in Myanmar)

Life giving elixir

doubles as most popular cleaning agent

more valuable than purest gold

yet it sits in a toilet

Without it there is no life

at its lack we pine for it passionately

It flows and fills the lowest spots

is able to take on any form

when encased the pressure builds

when released it overflows

brings the new

it is the stuff of which we mostly are

and best of all

when we find the living version

as was said

If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water

Re-Source

Sometimes a word we have repeatedly used thousands of times just suddenly sounds different. In my experience this happens faster in second languages perhaps because you can look at it as an insider. But it can also happen in the mother tongue.

This happened to me as I heard something or read something - actually I do not know. But I do know that there was in a moment of time a thought that crossed my mind about the English word Resource.

And somehow in my mind's eye I saw the word written differently with a dash separating the syllables - Re-source.

Resources are what we all need no matter what we do. In the work of missions it is often a topic. Everyone needs it, and I must confess to a feeling in times of Covid that is is lacking more than normally.

But as this rewriting of the word hit my mind, with a dash, I started to look at it differently.

If we write it Re-source, it implies that it is something that is happening again and not simply a one off experience.

I was reminded of the Bible passage in John 4:35 where it says - Do you not say, ‘There are still four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I tell you, raise your eyes and observe the fields, that they are white for harvest.

It is like the economic template of supply and demand. We read here that the demand is great and the only missing part is the “supply”.

But that part of the equation is added from another passage and that happens in this very same chapter just 25 verses earlier - “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who is saying to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.

I found it astonishing that this small thought about a single word, resource / re-source led me into a new discovery.

We have what we need when the focus return to the source, ie. we re-source.

Seek first [b]His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be [c]provided to you. (Mt 6:33)

So now when I think about what I need and ask for resources, I realize it is my job to do the “re” part and. look to the true source of all we need.

When you visit a cemetery, you will see the markers over the burial plots. Some are wooden until they get a more robust stone replacement. Some are elaborate, even professionally sculptured, artfully formed - polished, gleaming adorned with life in the form of flowers. Sometimes artwork and today, even video.

But with the exception of those buried who are unidentifiable, the gravestone has a few common items. A name, a date of birth and a date of death.

In most cases what comes between the date of birth and the date of demise is represented by a small horizontal line.

There can scarcely be a better way to state better the ephemeral brevity of our lives than its entire representation in a mere dash!

But we were not designed to be a dash.

Scripture tells us that the name of those who are in the Lord are written in a book of Life. These names have more than a date of birth and a dash representing all of life.

The dash shows something temporary, fleeting, short, abrupt.

But there is a better form of punctuation to describe the life of those who have life in Jesus.

It is this ...

When we see those three dots, we know more is to come. Something yet hidden, but nonetheless still there.

fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

We are called to be more than a dash, we are designed for the three points.
