Stampin' Up! Bordering on Romance Sneek Peek

So sweet. The Bordering on Romance stamp set featured on this card can be ordered on January 4th, 2012 from Stampin' Up!'s Occasions Mini Catalog. The "Twitterpated" patterned paper is from the Occasions mini catalog as well. The patterns are gorgeous, you're going to love them. Need a catalog? Contact me.

I stamped the images in jet black Staz On and colored them in with markers (Pink Pirouette, Cherry Cobbler, Certainly Celery and Wild Wasabi) and blender pen. What you can't really see in the photo is that the centers of the flowers have dazzling diamond glitter applied. Most of my cards end up with a little bit of sparkle. I can't stop myself. The sentiment is from Friendly Phrases found in the 2011-2012 Idea Book and Catalog on page 162. Don't have a catalog? Contact me and we'll get one in your hands!

Elements of Style in Wisteria Wonder

I wanted to share a card with you really quick this morning. I'm sorry it's nothing new like a sneak peek at the Holiday Mini or Halloween or Christmas but just another Elements of Style card. I absolutely love this set and I've been itching to see what it would look like colored with Wisteria Wonder.

Here's the inside. I began to love my wheel stamps (Decor' Wheel stamp used here # 119894) much more after I got the Stampin' Around Wheel Guide (#104864)!
I stamped the image on a Whisper White top note cut from the Big Shot in Black Staz On, then I colored the image using Wisteria Wonder, Elegant Eggplant, Old Olive and Always Artichoke markers. I generously spritzed the whole top note with Frost White Shimmer Paint mixed with rubbing alcohol in a mini mister.

Elizabeth and Melon Mambo embossing powder-Fun!

This is not a typical color combo for me, but what-the-heck! I really wanted to use the ELIZABETH stamp with MELON MAMBO EMBOSSING POWDER. The whole look reminds me of the Hotel Del Coronado where we spent our wedding night. It's an amazing Victorian hotel on the Island of Coronado in San Diego, and as you can imagine I have very fond memories of it.

I cut the MELON MAMBO 1 1/4" STRIPED GROSGRAIN RIBBON into thirds to tie on these undersized cards.

Stampin' Up! Hello Doily Convention CASE

Unfortunately, I didn't get to go to convention this year (I won't miss it next year!), but I sure have enjoyed seeing photos of the sample boards some bloggers have shared. This new HELLO DOILY (122845)stamp is so perfect. I just love using it. and it pairs so well with the new PERFECTLY PENNED (122890 wood, 122892 clear mount) stamp set!

This one in black is the one I cased from the convention sample boards. In addition to the two stamp sets mentioned above, I used the COLOR SPRITZER TOOL (107066), a fabulous tool you can use on almost anything, BASIC PEARLS (119247), and BLACK SATIN RIBBON (117285). Such a simple card to make, but so eye catching and beautiful, don't you think? See why I love that HELLO DOILY background stamp?
I had some other satin ribbon in my stash so I decided to try the same card with a different orientation.

So today I'm going to share a couple of cheerful cards made especially for knitters with the stamp set HAND KNIT. I went online looking for color inspiration from multicolored yarn. I'm still not too sure about the combo on a card, but it looked great in a yarn!

Stampin' Up! Field Flowers and singing the Lord's Prayer

I have so many cards to blog about right now it was hard for me to choose which one to start with...so I'm starting with my favorite. When I saw the seed packets on the front of the Idea Book and Catalog I knew I had to have this FIELD FLOWERS stamp set. I'm absolutely in love with two step stamping, but I have to say that for this one you definitely have to bring out your STAMP A MA JIG!

Do you like? This was a very easy card to make and would be great for a workshop or class, I think! So contact me to schedule your WORKSHOP before I forget how to make this, or use up all my Poppy Parade paper or all my Calypso Coral ruffled ribbon (this photo does not do the ribbon justice, it's TOO sweet!). So today when he let me sing to him...an entire song...and classical in style at that...I was thrilled! It made me cry.

Stampin' Up! Happiest Birthday Wishes gift for the MIL

I forgot to share this with you back when I made it...good thing I remembered to photograph it! It's a card and gift for my wonderful mother-in-law. I made her a brown sugar facial scrub (which is DIVINE, by the way) and this gorgeous (if I do say so myself) quilted card featuring the LATTICE BIGZ DIE (115958) for the Big Shot.

I ran about 4 sheets of the BEAU CHATEAU(122357) ( designer series paper and Very Vanilla cardstock through the Lattice Bigz Die. On a 3 3/4 inch square of the designer paper I glued the Very Vanilla lattice in the middle. Then I meticulously pieced in the pieces of designer series paper.
For the tag and greeting, I stamped the image from HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY WISHES (hostess set, only $15 hostess shopping dollars for the clear mount set, $21 for wood....and for a $150 party you get $25 FREE shopping dollars) in Soft Suede on Pink Pirouette, Marina Mist and twice on Very Vanilla card stock. I used the scalloped circle, the 1 3/8inch circle punch, the 1 1/4 inch circle punch, and the 1 inch circle to punch out all the pieces and parts. Ribbon used is Pink Pirouette 3/8 inch taffeta and Marina Mist 1 1/4 inch striped grosgrain. I also used the Square Lattice (119976) and Finial Press (115963) embossing folders for the background of the Marina Mist card and the square quilt embellishment respectively.

Now, about the Brown Sugar Scrub...We moved to western Nebraska, an extremely dry and windy climate, from southern California (a very temperate climate) about 2 years ago. After my first summer I thought my face would fall off! I just couldn't get enough moisturizer on it! Then I happened upon a recipe for this Brown Sugar Scrub and since it fell in line with my philosophy of using pure and natural products I tried it. (It also conforms to my philosophy of making your own, cheaper and better, if you can.) I do not suffer from dry skin any more!!! I'll share the recipe...try it...and then come back and tell me about it!
Brown Sugar Scrub
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup honey
1 teaspoon vanilla
Place the brown sugar in a medium-size bowl.
Add the olive oil. (You can use any other plant-based oils in place of the olive oil, such as coconut oil, sunflower oil, or almond oil, to name a few.)
Add the honey. (Honey not only moisturizes your skin, it helps hold moisture in.)
Add the vanilla.
Stir to combine.
Scoop mixture into a container.
You do not need to refrigerate, it really won't last long enough to go bad. You will need to mix before each use if the oil separates.
To Use, scoop about 1 teaspoon into your moistened hands and rub in a circular motion into the palm of your hand. Once the sugar begins to melt and the scrub starts to emulsify into a more cohesive substance, rub into your water moistened skin with a light circular motion. You don't want to cause damage to your beautiful face, but on the other hand this is sugar, so it won't last long in this granular state. Rinse and dry and enjoy your beautiful, rejuvenated, exfoliated, moisturized skin! Use 2-3 times a week.

Stampin' Up! Pennant Parade Bag and Party Hat

My baby turned 4 today! He's napping right now after a full morning of fishing, burgers and bowling. So while daddy is cleaning the fish, I'm going to get a little blogging and stamping squeezed in this busy day!

I made this little table decoration (party hat) out of the Petal Cone die for the Big Shot, Poppy Parade card stock, Daffodil delight 1 1/4" striped grosgrain ribbon, the new hostess stamp set Happiest Birthday Wishes and the Just Add Cake designer series paper.

Hello Doily (CCMC158)

I RARELY participate in challenges, even though I love the idea of it! Today it just seemed to work out that I had the time and an idea for a challenge I ran across at Stampin' Connection (SU Demonstrator gallery website).

This card is actually a CASE (copy and share everything) from Paper Crafter's Magazine. I used the brand new Hello Doily background stamp (SEE BELOW), So Saffron, Pumpkin Pie and Basic Gray card stock, Versamark, Going Gray and Pumpkin Pie ink. I also used the Scalloped trim border punch, the Beautiful Wings embosslit for the Big Shot, and the Jewelry Tag punch. The button is from the Subtles pack of buttons and the "Love" sentiment is from the brand new Pennant Parade Stamp set(SEE BELOW). The ribbon is Pumpkin Pie Satin ribbon which may be retired (look for it in the clearance rack) and the irresistible Basic Pearls. Please, please let me know if you have any questions!

This card is actually a case of a scrapbook page in Stampin' Success. It's so bright and cheerful! Don't you think!

I used Artistic Etchings and Word Play stamp sets along with the Blossom Party and Top Note dies for the Big Shot. The ink I used was pumpkin pie and daffodil delight. Layered Background technique with Stampin' Up! My Friend

I saw a gorgeous card with this technique and now I can't remember where or who, but I did happen to bookmark the technique video she referenced. Here's my card using the new stamp set My Friend by Stampin' Up!

I used River Rock as my base. I also used River Rock ink for the background technique. The inks used for the image are Wisteria Wonder, Lucky Limeade, and Island Indigo. You can see the video for this technique here.
Because I loved the way these new In Colors worked together on this image I wanted to try another card with the same inking technique. I eliminated the embossing on this one.

This time I used Pear Pizazz, Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight and Island Indigo inks. Please let me know if you have any questions! I'm here to help.

Dyed Flowers using Stampin' Up! ReInkers

I'm really starting to love the reinkers from Stampin' Up! There really are an incredible number of uses for them. For starter's you can dye fabric as I did in these two cards.

In this first example I die cut 5 flowers using a lightweight canvas type material. I used the Blossom Party die from Stampin' Up and cut them out with the Big Shot. Then in a little dixie cup I added about 20 drops of Pool Party re inker and filled the cup up about 1/3rd of the way with water. Mix and add your die cut flowers. I continued to poke and mix until the fabric took up the die to a color deepness I was happy with. (Don't end sentences with a preposition....But I can't HELP it!!)

For this card I used the Daisies #2 die and Calypso Coral re inker with matching paper. To cut the Top Note die cut in the same place I cut mine just line up the 2 points on your 1/2" line on your paper trimmer. The brads are Antique Brads by Stampin' Up! as well. Love them!!

Stampin' Up! (R) Demonstrator

Stampin' Up! Word Play variety card

I say variety card because of the wide variety of stamp sets I used on this card. If you're just starting out with Stampin' Up! as a customer or demonstrator, I have to apologize for this card. When I was starting out, cards like this made me crazy...but the good news is that as you see your collection expanding, take heart! You WILL use all of them and continue to love them. I love Stampin' Up!
This would also be an easy card to reproduce by substituting patterned paper or by changing the stamp sets used to achieve a similar look, that is, if you're interested in reproducing it.

Measurements and tips:

Rich Razzleberry 1 1/5 x 2, stamped with En Fracais in Bravo Burdundy and then stamped with Ornate Blossom in Versamark and embossed with clear embossing powder.
Certainly Celery, 2 1/5 x 2, stamped with the flourish from Baroque Motifs, the dot pattern from Extreme Elements and the large leaf pattern from Flower Fancy in Certainly Celery classic ink.
Love Letter, 1 x 4, black and white patterned paper
Very Vanilla, 2 1/4 x 4, stamped sentiment with black Staz On, the flourish from Baroque Motifs in Rich Razzleberry ink.
Cut out flowers from Flower Fancy are stamped in Baja Breeze ink on Baja Breeze card stock. Leaves from same set are stamped in Certainly Celery ink on Certainly Celery card stock.
Rich Razzleberry Buttons from Brights designer buttons tied with Linen Thread.

This card was also cased from a stamp catalog. I was on a roll!

Stampin' Up! Baroque Motifs with Broadsheet Alphabet Love Card

Staying true to my distressed self, here's another card which showcases several distressing techniques. I saw a similar card in another rubber stamp company's catalog and thought I could reproduce it with Stampin' Up! sets and paper. I love the way my background paper turned out.

I'll start with the Letter squares: I stamped the Dot, Dot, Dot stamp in Whisper White Craft ink on Tangerine Tango card stock, dried it with a heat tool because I can't wait for things to air dry. Then I rubbed the paper with the embossing buddy and stamped the letters on top of the dot pattern in Whisper White craft ink and embossed with white embossing powder. I punched out the letters with the 1 1/4 inch square punch and layered them on top of 1 3/8 inch punched squares in Cherry Cobbler card stock. I used a Cherry Cobbler marker to make those sketchy lines around the edge of the Tangerine Tango squares. Position these layered squares on a piece of Whisper White card stock and trim tightly all around. My white square measures 2 14/16ths on each side, but I didn't cut that square first.

For the patterned paper layer I took a piece of 3 1/4 x 4 5/8th Tangerine Tango card stock and randomly stamped the larger flower stamp from Baroque Motifs stamp set in VersaMark. Then I inked up the small spiky flower in VersaMark then in Tangerine Tango ink and randomly stamped that image all over. When you do this you have to clean between each stamp so that you don't contaminate your VersaMark pad with orange ink. Then sprinkle with clear embossing powder, shake off excess and heat set with a heat tool.

I then brayered and sponged Cherry Cobbler ink all over as shown. To get the white-ish edges on the card base and this patterned background piece, pour a little white embossing powder in your tray and run a VersaMarker along the edges of each. Dip the edges in the white embossing powder. Manipulate the powder (using a brush) before heat setting so you get the desired thickness and look.
The flowers are made with the Daisies #2 die, using 2 of the medium daisies layered together and then I sponged the edges with Cherry Cobbler ink. The flower center is made with the the Floral Fusion Sizzlit Die--2 large and 1 medium sponged with Cherry Cobbler on the edges and offset. The Cherry Cobbler center is punched from the Boho Blossoms punch, wrapped with the new Cherry Cobbler baker's twine from the 2011 Summer Mini Catalog (see side bar).
The strips of green are 1/4 inch strips of Old Olive, crunched and wrinkled then add some Cherry Cobbler ink direct to paper. To get the worn look, take your Aqua Painter and paint over the whole strip which will bleed the Cherry Cobbler ink into the cracks and crevices. The leaves are made by folding a piece of Old Olive paper in half then punching out just a small portion of the fold with a circle punch. It doesn't even matter what size, but I would recommend something at least 1 inch or larger. The edges of the leaves are sponged with Cherry Cobbler.

Stampin' Up! Greenhouse Garden in Shabby Chic

Recently a dear friend of mine said she missed the "distressed" Kelly...well...miss her no longer...I'M BACK!!!

I don't know if you can see all the shimmer on this card, but when you hold it in the sunlight it simply glows! I'm so in love with that shimmer paint. (Just mix a few drops in a mister of some kind with rubbing alcohol for the shimmer mist)
All edges were distressed with the distressing tool that comes with the Cutter Kit, and sponged with Soft Suede ink (my favorite for the distressed look). The polka dot Baja Breeze layer was sanded all over. I even found an embroidery floss color that coordinated beautifully with the Soft Suede. (DMC 840, in case you wondered) Yes, the paper is hand sewn all the way around. Just use the Mat Pack and Paper-Piercing Tool to evenly poke the holes then thread your cross stitch needle with a full strand of embroidery thread and sew around as shown.
For the edge, I just trimmed off 1/4 of an inch from the front of a standard card size (8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch sheet of card stock folded in half) and ink the edges with Soft Suede. Then I added the Very Vanilla strip that had been punched with the Scallop Trim border punch. The Newsprint layer was stamped with the butterfly image from Dreams du Jour. To create the lighter small flower from Greenhouse Garden ink up with Baja Breeze and stamp off before stamping the image on Very Vanilla.
Here are the paper measurements:

Newsprint layer is 3 1/2 x 5 inches
Very Vanilla layer is 3 x 4 1/2
Baja Breeze polka dot paper from the Subtles Patterned paper stack is 3 5/8 x 4 1/8
