Sun, Sand, and Resort Wear is what filled my Memorial Day weekend! The unofficial start to summer landed me in the hidden paradise known as Siesta Key. Hidden to me anyway - it was my first time visiting the oceanfront locale on Florida's west coast, but definitely not my last. The charming beach town offered up delicious eats, friendly locals, and powdery white sand that was silky to the touch. Just days before my getaway I came across this amazing fringe cotton skirt at South Dade consignment shop The Recycled Closet. When I picked it up and read ALEXIS on the label I knew I had a gem on my hands. The skirt was the inspiration for my tropical themed weekend in beach bliss....

This 2nd outfit is one of my new favorites! Nothing like neon pink & orange to offset a fresh glowing tan. I picked up this hot top at the newly refurbished ZARA in Dadeland mall (aka heaven!) It has all of the elements to make it a summer must-have: tropical flowers, flourescent colors, and golden studs. Let's just say I couldn't resist it. I dug up the neon skirt from the depths of my closet, and just like that, what's old is new again. I finished off the look with my leopard jeweled sandals from Miss Trish (also worn here.) Leopard is a neutral in my book- goes with almost anything!

I've been meaning to post pictures from my Braids & Bikinis event at The Orchid Boutique for over a week now but life has been hectic! Not that I'm complaining. The Miami fashion bloggers have been quite busy as of late and I'm loving all of the positive things happening for us. It's been great meeting other fashion enthusiasts around town and collaborating on fun events, like B&B.

The team at The Orchid Boutique invited me to style the 'feature wall' where I chose my favorite swim trends for summer 2012. I wanted to offer options for women of all body types, so my selections included a deep-v one piece, neon brights, tribal prints, a high waisted pin-up look, and my favorite trend - fringe! Owner Mayra Jimenez and I discussed my styling choices in a webisode that you can watch here.

Let's talk about the dress I wore, because I am in l-o-v-e with it! The bright graphic print, beaded accents, peplum detail, and lightweight fabric all combine to make this dress versatile enough to toss over your bikini and go just about anywhere. (Note: Next time I wear this will be poolside in Las Vegas with sky high wedges and a fabulous hat.) If you're not familiar with Agua Bendita, the luxury Colombian swimwear brand is known for their youthful, latin-inspired designs. The line is a favorite of the Sports Illustrated Swimwear Edition, and yours truly! I have to be honest, I feel like I won the lottery with this frock because I'm told it has been discontinued. Part of the allure of owning a piece of Agua Bendita is that production is limited. Each collection is exclusive, ensuring you'll be the only babe on the beach in your handmade suit. But, ff the thought of not owning this dress is going to keep you up at night, call the boutique... they may just have one left!

Leave it to J.Crew to revamp the chino into a hot summer must-have. Tinsley Mortimer Brings "Southern Charm" to Miami

Best known for her socialite status, (and impeccable style!) New Yorker Tinsley Mortimer can now add author to her resume. The petite blonde appeared at Neiman Marcus Coral Gables last week to sign copies of her first novel, "Southern Charm." The meet and greet was just one of 12 stops on her book tour sponsored by HPNOTIQ Harmonie cocktails, Mortimer's drink of choice.

I must admit I didn't know much about Tinsley before meeting her, but what I did know was pretty major: Miss Mortimer got to play herself in an episode of my favorite show, Gossip Girl. I'd say she's a pretty big deal on the Upper East Side. But don't think for one second that this big city girl is your typical big city B... she's just a sweet southern import! You see, Mortimer wasn't always a city girl. Originally from Virginia, her small-town roots were the inspiration for "Southern Charm."

The new author arrived looking picture perfect in an aqua Herve Leger bandage dress, Brian Atwood heels, and pretty gold accessories. Her nameplate necklace with the word "Minty" caught my eye, which she explained was the main character from her book. That led us into a conversation about Sex & The City, Carrie Bradshaw, and reminiscing about the signature nameplate earrings she, too, once owned. Any girl willing to cop to a SATC fashion faux-pas is A-okay in my book! After some girl talk and photo ops, I got down to the nitty gritty with the super sweet It Girl. Here's our interview-

Kelly Saks- You have beautiful skin, what's your skincare regimen?

Tinsley Mortimer- I was going to say you have beautiful skin! (Thank you!!) I use Noxzema face wipes and a very light lotion that I'm forgetting the name of. I try not to use the heavy stuff. I really don't have a regimen, I should be better about it to be honest.

KS- What's one beauty product that you can't live without?

TM- Klorane Dry Shampoo! It's changed my life because I'll be using it tonight to save this (hair 'do) for my event tomorrow. My hair is naturally straight so when I get it curled it takes a long time; so it's nice to be able to throw the dry shampoo in there and make it really last for the next day.

KS- What's one style tip that you think every woman should know?

TM- I don't follow trends, I really wear what makes me feel like me. I think that if you dont feel like yourself you're not going to have a fun night going out and you're not going to feel confident about yourself. A confident woman is the most sexy woman ever. You just have a good time when you're confident. Don't wear something because you think it's trendy, wear what you feel comfortable in and what makes you feel like you. For me that's usually a pink, poofy, party dress that makes me feel the most like me, and that's when I'm the happiest.

KS- What was it like to appear on Gossip Girl?

TM- It was amazing. To be able to play yourself is actually kind of hard, because you can't act! But it was so flattering, and to be written into the script as yourself is just amazing.

KS- Are you a fan of the show?

TM- I am a fan of the show, of the fashion for sure. It is so amazing. I wish you could really wear those outfits in real life.

KS- What inspired your book "Southern Charm?"

TM- It's definitely inspired a lot by my life. It's a fictional story, but being a southern girl and moving to New York City I was a complete fish out of water. I found myself immersed in this amazing, glamorous world of New York, and it's very insider-y. Writing the book I realized I would not be the girl I am today in New York had I not been from the south, had I not had a crazy southern mother, worn color, curled my hair, and worn a lot of makeup; all those southern traits that made me who I am today.

These sweets looked too pretty to eat. (At least that's how I convinced myself. ha.)

Derby Daze

In honor of today's Kentucky Derby, I bring you my photos from the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park. Having never been to a horse race before, I knew there was one key component to my outfit that had to be just right... the hat! You wouldn't believe how difficult it is to find a "derby hat" in South Florida. After searching in a few stores I came across this beautiful headband, which I later learned is called a Fascinator, at Nordstrom and had to have it! Paired with a ladylike lace accent pencil dress and oversized pearl ring, I dubbed this look Cuban Kate Middleton. I even had a couple at the track ask if I had come from England. (An older woman also yelled, "Hey, it's Lady Gaga!") Mint Julep anyone?

I just came across these lost photos from last month's Sony Ericsson Open on Key Biscayne. My boyfriend and I attended the final matches on what felt like the hottest day of the year. I had just purchased these amazing printed palazzo pants from Atikshop in Mary Brickell Village (a gem!) and I couldn't wait to wear them for this Sunday outing. Bralettes and crop tops were all over the Spring/Summer '12 runways and this was the perfect weather to take the trend for a spin. (BF did not "get" this.) I slathered on the sunscreen, threw on a fabulous hat borrowed from his mom, and enjoyed an afternoon sipping cocktails while taking in the hottest ticket in town. I must give kuddos to my man who, for the first time ever, managed to snap blog worthy pictures of me! X

Fashion Star Designers Host Viewing Party in Miami

On Tuesday Daily Candy & Suave Beauty teamed up to host a posh Style Suite and viewing party of NBC's Fashion Star at Miami's Viceroy Hotel. Four of the show's remaining designers were on hand to greet fans and dish behind the scenes secrets, including Orly Shani, Ronnie Escalante, Nzimiro Oputa, and Miami native Luciana Scarabello.

While I'm not a devoted Fashion Star viewer, I do catch the show occasionally and was excited to meet two of my favorites, Orly & Luciana. I was attending the GUESS 30th anniversary party in South Beach (more on that later) during the first half of the evening so I missed out on the mini makeovers by Suave. I arrived just in time to catch the show at 10pm and was treated with fresh baked cookies by the Club 50 staff, and a sweet goodie bag of Suave styling products that I can't wait to try.
Orly is as funny as she is beautiful. There's a cool, confident vibe about her that draws you in. She was dressed in one of her own designs, a fun cobalt blue dress with zippered back that she sold to H&M in a past FS episode. Everyone in the room was clearly disappointed when her motorcycle dress/vest wasn't purchased (me included!)
Local girl Luciana had quite the fan club in attendance, with the room erupting in cheers whenever she appeared on screen. I couldn't help but join in the applause for her super sexy design this week, which was ultimately purchased by Saks. The Argentinian designer is a pint-sized beauty, making me feel like I was towering over her-- and that doesn't happen. She was also wearing her own design, a gorgeous floral frock from the show that I'm sad I missed out on.

Miami Marlins Get PINK'D by Victoria's Secret

Victoria's Secret has been showing Miami a lot of love this Spring! (Remember: VS Very Sexy Tour and Pink Spring Break Party.) This time around the very sexy brand's hot little sister, VS PINK, teamed up with Major League Baseball for a collection of fun sportswear for us girlfriends. Super sweet VS model Elsa Hosk joined Miami Marlins baseballer Logan Morrison at Miami's Dolphin Mall to debut the hometown edition of the sporty fashion collab.

I didn't know what to expect when I met Logan, but I was prepared for anything. (The twitter-lebrity is rumored to be a huge flirt!) I'm happy to report that LoMo, as his fans call him, was on his best behavior, and even complimented my ring. I chatted up the 24-year-old and got the scoop on his love affair with twitter, the new Marlins uniform, and exercises to make your booty pop.

Kelly Saks: Why do you like twitter so much?

Logan Morrison: I like the fact that you can interact with fans on it, people that I would never talk to. I can talk to them, make fun of them, flirt with them.

KS: What's your take on the new Marlins logo?

LM: Did you know that we're the number one selling merchandise in MLB? So that's pretty cool.

KS: There was a lot of controversy about the new logo when it came out, but I guess people are liking it?

LM: Change is always rejected, then it's accepted, right? That's what I did. I didn't know if I liked it and then I put it on and thought, hey, it's pretty cool.

KS: Elsa and I were talking before you got here, and we were wondering why it is that baseball players all have really nice butts? (Laughing.) What is your secret exercise?

LM: Ha! Well, I think I'm an exception to that because I have no booty. I went to Vegas, came back, and I lost it somewhere in between. I don't know what exercise, I don't do anything... Just do lunges, glutes, monster walks. I dunno, I just have a really long back!

KS: How are you liking your new home (Marlins Stadium)?

LM: I love it! It's an awesome stadium. Air conditioning is the best part, that's for sure.

This was my second time meeting Elsa and I must say the Swedish model is a total sweetheart! We bonded over our mutual admiration for baseball players' behinds (see above) and the 305. While Miami is known for some of the worst drivers in the nation, Elsa says she's learned how to get around since she works here so often. No word on if she's made it out to Hialeah yet. ;)

A Sandal Soirée

Designer Trish Carroll celebrated the launch of her latest footwear line, Miss Trish Shoes, with a personal appearance at Nordstrom in the Dadeland Mall this afternoon. Pictured: Me & Trish in her own Heights wedges.

I was excited to see the rest of the collection in person (and meet Trish!) after receiving my fierce leopard print Daktari sandals in the mail. The sandals are all so chic that the photos don't do them justice. The luxe jewels, leather, and textures seen throughout the line are the perfect way to glam up a basic t-shirt and jeans look. From the beach to brunch and anything in between, Miami girls will enjoy these year-round. One woman at today's event took home five pairs!

What I Wore
Trish's bright outfit was definitely an expression of her bubbly personality! She wore her Heights wedges with a floral top & trousers from Nanette Lepore, topped off with a statement vintage necklace from C. Madeleine's. Feeling preppy this morning, I paired my new sandals with a navy ZARA blazer, coral bodysuit from The Closet Boutique, and tan shorts from Blush Brickell. You may remember this top from FNO Miami.

Miami-Dade College student and fashion enthusiast Bianca Sanchez was pretty happy she made it out to meet Trish today. She literally jumped for joy when I tweeted that she was the winner of our Miss Trish Shoe Giveaway! Bianca's shoe of choice was the Daktari in zebra. Congrats, B!

Last Week I got the chance to participate in a very unique styling challenge. GUYandGIRL Boutique at the Shelborne Hotel invited four bloggers to host a tweet-up, where we each styled our own mannequin with a head-to-toe look from the shop. The hook? The outfit with the most RT (re-tweets, or shares) on Twitter would be deemed the winner AND one lucky tweeter would take home the whole look!
