I still have ideas, but this one works pretty well out of the box. In my later Shaolin Kempo era, I was taught a variation that I like a lot (even though I don’t know what I’m doing). This video offers two variations on combination 20, minimal complaints, and a disagreement about the final strikes. I don’t really care how you finish it.

Marlon Wilson has done a short giving some good options for combinations 2 and 5. He solves the problems a different way than I do, which I feel offers some added value. I tend to view shutting down decision trees as optimizing techniques, where he tends to be more movement oriented in his optimization, so folks can pick and choose a direction and still get a more optimized technique. This video includes combinations 3 and 5, mainly because I actually like combination 3 pretty much as is. I give some thoughts on some possible tweaks, but really, that one is good to go. I have a lot to say about combination 5 however, and drop some foreshadowing on combination 35. Sorry things are coming a little more slowly – Chris and I are busy folks!

Marlon Wilson has a riff on combination one that uses movement rather than rearrangement of content to make combination one work. He developed it a while ago, but I think it matches nicely with his emphasis on the Kosho principles in his Kempo. Take a look and see another way to make things work.

Here’s another video where I complain about a combination. It’s a classic, and one of the first ones you learn. I’ve long had a problem with some facets of it, and here’s my thoughts on adjusting it. I’ve already made some folks a little salty with this one, so I know I’m on the right track.
