Wedding Day morning was very quiet, the groomsmen went fishing and bridesmaids went for mud baths. There was no room for me at either so I just hung out at the pool and took some snapshots and captured some details of the resort.

I was going back and forth between villas while everyone was getting ready, trying to keep the bride and groom from seeing each other while trying to get some of the formals done! I knew we were going to be short on time! The plan was 4:00 wedding, over at 4:20 and formals done by 4:40 for a 20 minute drive to a remote beach for wedding party photos, all before we lost the sun! I have to admit…I didn’t think we were going to have time…

Girls were calm and relaxed after their baths and the guys were bouncing off the walls taking shots of Mezcal! Everyone was actually ready early and we knocked out the bridals and most the formals before 4.

The actual ceremony was only 10 minutes so timing was perfect to get the beach in time.

I loved this bar on our way to the beach, unfortunately the seats didn’t move and there were people at the bar so we only had a second to get the shot!

The waves didn’t exactly cooperate and Eddie got soaked!

Wow, where do I begin…
I missed the Texas Round Up over Thanksgiving weekend but I have to say I didn’t miss the cold rink too much! I had never heard of Huatulco before but this place is awesome. Huatulco is south of Acapulco on the SW corner of Mexico. I had no idea it was so mountainous and so scenic until we were landing and the drive up to the resort which was such a pleasant surprise. When we pulled into the private resort, Las Palmas, I knew immediately that we were going to have a blast, it was absolutely immaculate. Everything is so clean and detailed. The owner of the resort, who lives in Tahoe was around quite a bit telling some great stories…he found the location by carving a path with a machete about 10 years ago and decided that was where he was going to build because of the peninsula it sits on allows for three different spectacular views!

We started off the week with a night of Cranium and cervezas while the families got to know each other and the next day some hit the local beaches while others went fishing. I didn’t get a camera out much the first day…I couldn’t quite get over the fact that I had $20k worth of photo equipment and didn’t have a lock on my door! I eased up and took one with me the next morning on our fishing trip with Jesus “White Shark” and boy did we have some good luck which was followed by two days of fresh fish for everyone! Johnathan caught his first “real fish” and we all caught at least one big Mahi and a number of mackerel, we also saw countless numbers of sea turtles and dolphins and the water was like glass.

I forced myself to get up early a few mornings to catch some outstanding sunrises and tried my hand at HDR. HDR is high dynamic range and it is a bit of fad in photography right now. I really didn’t like the look at first but when it is subtle it looks outstanding. The process involves taking multiple exposures and mixing them into one. By exposing for the highlights and low lights you can make an image look more like the human eye records the image or even taken beyond that to make it surreal. I have to give a plug to a buddy of mine from high school Cliff Baise that inspired me to try it out and taught me a few tricks.

The next days had us surfing in some of the largest waves I have every seen…I know this one is not big but Joey was the only one that actually got up so I had to show it! I also need to show the freaky vultures that were always circling overhead! The river rocks were at the mouth of a fresh water river that flowed into the ocean. very cool sound of the rocks clanking together. Probably my only disappointment of the area was the diving and we hauled an extra 60lbs of gear to dive and never went, only snorkeled a bit and the viability was not too good.

Teresa wanted to do a casual session at her home. She wanted to capture where they actually got engaged and keep Scott comfortable. The weather was very cold that morning but it warmed up quickly and we decided to go outdoors for a few shots at a nearby park. We didn’t like the first two locations and ended up at Prairie Creek Park in Richardson. It was jam packed with photographers so we went off the beaten path and found a place I didn’t know existed which was great for shooting. I had a few casualties on this session…dropped my flash in the creek and lost part of wireless transmitter but we had a great time and I looking forward to their wedding later this month!

Congratulations to Ethan Harrison of the Dallas Scots he made the cover of the November Ice Times from our coverage of Texas Shootout tournament earlier this season.

Also, congratulations to Ryan Nicks of the DJHA Penguins and his mom Lori Nicks for winning our Silver Stick photo contest. Normally, I like to have a little opposition chasing to complete an action photo but I love this shot and rarely do you get such a young skater not looking at the puck so early in the turn. Ryan’s glasses and eye clarity on this photo really caught my eye! Lori will receive a 16×20 double mat frame with an 11×14 print of her son!

It was my first time to shoot at the Mill and it was a great time and Teresa was so much fun. We could have shot for hours!

I photographed my brother and his family on Sunday evening at Adriatica in McKinney. Wow has that place gotten overrun with photographers…we saw at least 12 different sessions during our hour! We ran out of daylight before I could all the shots I had planned but I got to play with a new lens I borrowed from a good friend of mine before using at a bridal shoot on Wednesday. A word to describe it…awesome! Certainly on my Christmas list!

I got to shoot some hockey for fun the other day…It was a blowout win and the team looked the best I have seen them all season. It was also the first time I have covered Johnathan’s new team. I was a little disappointed that the lights were not all on but it was a lot of fun and I have uploaded a few of my favorites. The rest of the gallery is located on under my hockey galleries.

I am sorry to say that we will not be covering the Texas Round Up Tournament this year. I will be covering a wedding in Hautulco, Mexico. The Dallas Stars are allowing parents to shoot their own Stanley Cup photos and I have too many photographers out of town over Thanksgiving and decided it is too difficult to run a tournament while I am out of town. I passed the job on to Joe and Stacy Champion of Champion Images photography and they have similar requirements for professionals with pro series cameras and even hire a few guys that I have used in the past and I am sure they will do a great job.

This is the last AA tournament for the year but we are available for non tournament games and do DVDs of all the images from a game for $350. The best images will be fully corrected and put on a DVD with full reprint licensing for less than the cost of a one 8×10 per player! I am personally available to cover games after the new year and highly recommend McKinney for this option. The lighting in McKinney is so much better than any other rink in Dallas and you are guaranteed to get your monies worth! I even like shooting there better than AAC! I would say the best rinks to shoot at in order of lighting and accessibility in Dallas are McKinney, AAC, Allen, Frisco, PSA, ITC, Euless, Farmer’s Branch, and a distant last is Plano and Valley Ranch!

Any teams that schedule a game in McKinney before February 31st will receive $50 off or you can add a second game for $200.

Talk about a busy year…Corey and Kelsie both graduated from Tulane, found jobs, planned a wedding and took the Bar! Corey is Janice’s little brother and all my kids were in the wedding. They had a photographer but I brought along my camera to get some photos of the kids in tuxedos! Not being able to keep my camera in the bag and of course after getting permission from the photographer…I took a few and thought I would share. Sorry for taking so long to post Ashley!
