It has been one year since Five Guys Restaurant opened its doors in Guilderland. As part of a one year anniversary presentation, the owner of the Guilderland Five Guys Restaurant made a significant contribution to the Guilderland School athletic program.

Guilderland has lowest unemployment rate in New York State according to Dept. of Labor

Information published by the New York State Dept. of Labor on their website indicates that Guilderland has the lowest jobless rate in the State of New York. The unemployment rate in Guilderland is 5.0%. The next best communities were Bethlehem and Clifton Park with unemployment rates of 5.3%. For the full story, go here.

Senator Chuck Schumer held a press event today at Crossgates Mall to thank Capital District voters for their support in the 2010 elections. Senator Schumer was re-elected by a wide margin and declared the winner 5 seconds after the polls closed. Guilderland Town Supervisor Ken Runion attended the press event at Crossgates Mall. Senator Schumer also made stops in Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo.

National Night Out in Guilderland

The Town of Guilderland event “National Night Out” held at Tawasentha Park and organized by the Guilderland Police Department was a great success. The event was sponsored by a number of state agencies, Fire Departments, Town Rescue Squads and area businesses.

Guilderland Center Fire Department Honors Stuart Dean for 50 years of service

The Guilderland Center Fire Department honored Stuart M. Dean for 50 years of service to the Guilderland Center Fire Department. Stuart Dean has served the Department in a number of capacities, including past Chief and past President. He was also Firefighter of the year in 1977 and 1988. Proclamations were delivered by Congressman Paul Tonko and Ken Runion. In addition, Stuart Dean was read a letter of congratulations from Senator Chuck Schumer. Mark Grimm and Warren Redlich question honesty of town employees

The only item on the Guilderland Town Board’s July 6, 2010 agenda was a rather routine resolution required by the State Comptroller adopting the normal work week for employees based on work logs submitted by such employees. The Town Human Resource Department reviews the work logs and reports the time to the Retirement System. Each official had submitted in December 2009, a calendar or log of the hours they had worked during the months of September, October and November of 2009. Those work logs were submitted to the Town’s Human Resource Department and based on the logs, the Human Resource Department computed retirement credit based on a formula supplied by the State Comptroller. Again, the work logs were filed in December of 2009 and both Mark Grimm and Warren Redlich submitted work logs at the same time.

At the July 6, 2010 Guilderland Town Board meeting, Mark Grimm and Warren Redlich, in their typical confrontational manner, refused to vote on a resolution establishing the retirement credit for town employees claiming that they were not furnished with the work logs of all employees. Of course, it is the board members responsibility to request to review work logs if they do not want to agree to the retirement calculations made by the Town’s Human Resource Department. Mark Grimm and Warren Redlich knew that all officials had filed a work log in December of 2009 as they had filed theirs at that time, and it was their responsibility to ask to review other employees logs, if they felt they wanted to challenge the work being reported by any employee. Keep in mind, that no town board member has ever challenged a work log submitted by a town employee in the 25 years I have been involved in town government.

The work logs which were challenged by Warren Redlich and Mark Grimm were those of the Town Judges and the Town Attorney. Basically, Warren Redlich and Mark Grimm are questioning the honesty of these individuals. Isn’t it ironic that these are the individuals who have questioned Warren Redlich’s practicing law in the Guilderland Town Court? Keep in mind that Warren Redlich has been sanctioned for a conflict of interest and deceptive advertising by an independent agency for practicing law in the Guilderland Town Court. Warren Redlich is challenging the sanctions in a federal court.

Schilling Park Dedication in Altamont

This evening was the dedication of the Schilling Park in the Village of Altamont. Phyllis Schilling was honored by the Mayor and Village Trustees, as well as members of the community for her dedicated service to the Village and its residents. Phyllis Schilling recalled her memories of the Village and the history of the park setting. Phyllis Schilling has devoted many hours as a volunteer and Trustee in keeping the Village beautiful and a great place to live and raise a family. The dedication of the park in her name is well deserved.
