Indianapolis Polar Bear Website Design

At the time of posting this the design for the Indianapolis Polar Bear website is complete, however the content is not. Going with the cold, winter setting from this February event, I made a very cold, chilly looking website! Seriously, this thing puts frost on my monitor.

2012 Res Rev Logo Design

The Resolution Revolution event is a New Year’s Day run / walk to kick off the new year. Over the last few years the name has been shortened in the logo to Res Rev, which it had been commonly referred to as. The logo carries over the theme of circles, owing to the event allowing participants to choose to do 1, 2, or 3 revolutions of the race course.

Indianapolis Women’s Half Marathon Website Design

This website was designed to stick out the new Indianapolis Women’s Half Marathon as a premier event. Giving the Women’s event it’s own website set the event apart from a standard KLA event. This event ended up being very successful in it’s first year, and is now building up for it’s second.

Economy Auto Glass Website Design

This design was meant to be a simple clean site, with the main push being to get the customer to the Instant Estimate. This allows a customer to get an estimate on auto glass replacement instantly, and schedule the service online as well.

Indianapolis Women’s Half Marathon Card

In lieu of printing a full brochure, Ken Long & Associates decided to have a card made for the Indianapolis Women’s Half-Marathon to sell the new event and point people to the website. A big emphasis in the design was getting people onto the website.

Shiny new website…mind the sawdust

At the time of this writing I still have a few niggling details to finalize on this new site design, but for the most part it’s done and up!

I intend to use this space both for my Portfolio / Resume, with the Musings area just being thoughts on the job of designing web sites, maybe some tips and tricks, stuff like that.

Now for a little bit about who I am (which I’ll likely use on the About Me page as well now that I think of it)

My name is Ken Stark, I’m a web and graphic designer currently living in Indianapolis, Indiana. I am currently employed by Ken Long & Associates, for whom I handle all of their web sites, plus most print design work and some of the logo designs. Ken Long & Associates is a special events company, putting on running and walking events such as the Indianapolis Women’s Half-Marathon. Having new events each year keeps me fairly busy designing new logos, print pieces and lately, websites for the various events. I’ve been working at KLA for over 9 years at this time, starting just out of high school.

My professional interests include designing websites, using tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and building them using Dreamweaver. I enjoy using WordPress, the 960 grid system, and other tools of the craft. I’m always looking to learn more about what I do. The one thing about this industry that seems a constant, is there is always more to learn.

I also enjoy print design, and plan on putting some of my print pieces into my portfolio. For those projects I typically use a combination of Photoshop and Illustrator, and bring it all together and design the layout in InDesign.

Outside of work, well I like to do personal design projects, playing around in Photoshop. I’ll also relax with a good book, something sci-fi usually, or play some video games. I’m pretty much a big geek.

Ken Long & Associates Site Design

This design incorporates many elements that had been added on after the fact in the previous site design. Seeing the need of a news feed to post updates and news, the site was built using the WordPress platform.

The main purpose of the design is to draw attention to the upcoming events, and lead the user to the registration form.
