I can’t even describe how difficult the wait for my bike was. Everyday since the day of booking, i would sit in the bus wondering when i would be able to drive home..Wondering if i will be able to maneuver well in the hell-hole traffic of Bangalore..

Getting my bike wasn’t easy, and the only reason i have one is cause my dad is like ..i dunno..the best dad in the planet (and i am not saying this only for the bike).

Initially due to budget constraints my dad recommended buying a Honda stunner. I didn’t want one cause mainly my brother already had a stunner..and for a first bike, that somehow just wouldn’t do.

Then my eyes fell on the FZ16..but again, due to budget constraints my dad said a firm no. But after months of emotional blackmail ex:

Dad: Kenneth, after college when will you reach home today?

Kenneth: At 5 maybe..why?

Dad: No, cause we are going out for dinner, so come early cause we have to do shopping before that.

Kenneth: I could have come home earlier..i dunno..maybe if i had a bike? I could just drive back from coll in 45 minutes and be here in time for this and for everything (flashing a big retarded smile at my dad)

Dad: Go to your room.

So. anywho..my dad said i could have a Fz..buttt i have to wait for 8 months. I said okay, i would bear the male harassment i go through in bus everyday for 8 months if i can get a Fz..but honestly i had a prob with Fz. I didn’t like its headlight at all. Then i heard that they are bringing out a faired version of it and i knew i wanted to buy that. Amazingly my dad was okay with that too..but the 8 months remained.

Lets not get into how the 8 months passed, but finally on 9th October 2009, my Lava Red Yamaha Fazer had arrived. Even though i wasn’t feeling well and i have zero experience with riding a bike in traffic, i rode back from the showroom to my house (thats 13km) and it was a breeze. You know the connection between man and machine?…ya, it was that connection baby.

So yesterday night, since i was jobless, i shot some random footage of my bike at night and decided to edit it and put it on youtube for you guys. Pls tell me what you think. This video is actually a peek at a later video , which is going to be a full fledged advertisement of Fazer (making it to include it on my portfolio).

I choose this title cause i didn’t want to write a cheesy title like “Somebody wake up me up” or “Wake up sid needs a awakening!!”..

So, we decide to see Wake up Sid today. I should end the sentence here (cause some people think i hate every movie, FYI Lovvved Kaminey) because i was bored through out the movie.

My friends made a good point that this is a alternate version of Jaane Tu ya Jaane na where two friends who are not attracted to each other finally fall in love…come on, i didn’t spoil the movie for you, cause if you have seen the trailers you should have figured that out by yourself. And thats exactly the problem with this movie. Its too predictable.

While Jaane Tu was a simple and a common love story, it was bloody entertaining to watch. Wake up sid has no punchlines like Jaane Tu (Agar chatna hai toh ice cream KHA!) , the dialogues are really really ordinary..they have crossed the line of mediocrity, a balance which Dil Chata Hai achieved amazingly with its dialogues.

The positives that saved this movie were Konkana Sen and Shankar Ehsaan Loy’s Music and Background Score. The directing is fresh, but not even close to innovative or impressive. Ranbir Kapoor even though is a good actor and has enough charisma, he is just getting repititive. In every movie he is acting like “Ranbir Kapoor” (eg: Bacheena Ee hasino, Saawariya and up coming Azab prem khani).

If you still want to catch this movie, pls go for a morning show and DO NOT go without your friends, if i saw this movie alone.. i would have walked out halfway..

Not a bad movie, but this movie basically doesn’t take you anywhere with the story.

From the moment you wake up in the morning and look into the mirror (to check how messed up your hair is), to brushing your teeth (worried how crooked they look), to taking a bath (worrying about body odour), combing your hair (wondering how you will look when you step into your class) till the moment you reach your college. All these small thoughts that over populate your head, are all related to social status.

To go a little ahead, I would say, your whole life is about Social Status (and no, I am not the only wise crack who thinks this way). What I am focused on is how it affects our teenage life…

It all comes down to groups, yup social groups and you know exactly what I am talking about. There are 5 standard groups in every class room, office ,etc..

The Popular group: The group everyone wants to be in. The group you wished to belong to, but at the same time, glad you weren’t. The group consisting of shallow, self-centered, aesthetically educated people who believe..more like KNOW that they are better than everyone else. They are seen, usually at the center of the room, surrounded by over the top fake laughter and ridiculous banter. But oh god, aren’t they fun to look at!

The Not-so popular group: The group that obviously aren’t the most fashionable , economically wealthy or attention drawing, but make it up with being the average joe that knows how to have fun. The group consists of people who are most comfortable with themselves (while they still think they have lower social status since they don’t belong to the popular group) and usually are big in number. This is the group that long lasting friendships are made and true love is found. My favorite group.

The Nerdy Group: Well, I don’t need to elaborate much on this group of people. They are the technically sound, socially non-existent group that have the most success in the class room or office while not be seen around when class is over. They have read the textbooks cover to cover enough times to give Harry Potter readers a run for their money.

The Ethnic group: This is an interesting group, honestly the purest and oldest form of groups. These people have nothing, absolutely nothing in common with each other , other than their ethnicity ( Same country, Same state, language etc..) This group is very similar to the Nerdy group, but unfortunately are even more less in number and do worse academically too.

The Rebel/ Outcast group: If not for the existence for the Not-so popular group, I would be in this one, because these are the group of people that have the most fun, are the most social (while still being anti-social) and have the lowest self esteem. While they brag about being independent from social pressures of making friends and sticking to rules, they really hate their current situation. The Bikers, the Goths, the musicians etc..belong to these groups.

So, why am I writing this? Why am I being so judgmental and making assumptions that people of some groups are inferior or not happy with their lives ? Well, I may not be 100% right, being a teenager myself, but I do see some truth in what I have written . What really bothers me, is not the groups. Its the very fact that people believe, that belonging to one of these social groups DEFINES who they are and who they will be.

This is where the very rare but brilliant group comes in (its very rare though).

The Socially Aware, or No group people: These people understand social behaviors either through acquired knowledge or through unconscious awareness that groups don’t define you, hence, they are comfortable being independent as well as being dependent on social status.

They reap the benefits of social interactions and almost avoid all the problems with it. They hang out with the Popular group in parties and clubs , have heart to heart conversations with the not-so popular group , Understand their technical difficulties with the help of the nerdy group and have unadulterated fun with the Social Outcasts.

In the end, I personally hope to be part of the Socially aware group, sometimes I think I am , but then I realize I give in to social pressures and fall back into “one of them”. I honestly think, that we should seriously think twice when our parents say

“I wish I did things differently when I was your age”…

My father used to always say before an exam (now that i am in ckp i dont have any), that its your responsibility to study, prepare, To Do you Job, and the results will be in gods hands. And for a long time , i believed that was true.. I believed that if you got bad marks, its because of your fault (most of the time), if you did something stupid when you were angry, it was your fault to lose your temper in the first place..but what happened today…man, seriously screwed up my mind.

..(still laughing at what happened)…okay, so here is the situation to what happened today in Jain College aka SBJC (J.C Road)..

I participate in the western acoustic event. I wait patiently in the 200 seater conference hall for the event to begin. Coincidentally my name came up first. I am not the nervous type, neither was i today. I confidently sat down, while the volunteers set up the mic system. Then one of them tell me that there is no mic stand and only a small one enough for the acoustic guitar. So i have 2 minutes to make a decision and decide to sing without a mic. I speak up to the packed hall that i wont be using a mic and sing a trail song (Heart of Life) to check whether they can hear me..

Then i start with my song, a cover of Free Falling by John Mayer. And honestly, i gave the best performance of my life and the applause at the end of the song was proof enough. To be completely honest, i was full of myself after that, i mean why shouldn’t i be? My main goal was not to disappoint myself and hear those dreaded words “Kenneth, you sang better during practice”..I wanted to sing the best i could and i did. The next performances that followed me all suffered the same problem, bad sound system. The vocals couldn’t be heard due to the poor mics..There were two performances that really gave me chills (sorry don’t remember the names). One was a friend of my classmate (She sang , while a guy with my future hairstyle accompanied her on the guitar) and another was a girl who sang “Summer” something ( a very Jazzy song). I cant possibly forget the gospel tamil singer who wailed his way into history and our very own Ricky Martin who kept referring to a certain “whore”. lol

It was just a matter of time before the results were announced. and i was tensed…and the fact that the judges were passing the results paper around didn’t help much. Finally the moment came…and WHAMMY!!!

I don’t get the first place (the fact that all the participants are staring at me in horror made me realize that it actually happened) , but the shock was who got it. Honestly, the two girls i mentioned earlier deserved it, if i was to get second.

DOUBLE WHAMMY!! I don’t get second place either (again, sitting at the last row where everyone looks at you in shock was making me really uncomfortable), and

TRIPLE WHAMMY!!! I don’t get the third place either..by now, the crowd (which has shrunk to 30%, mainly only the participants) goes crazy..As i get up to leave , what was really heartening that almost every particpate came over to me and congratulated me and told me how i deserved first place (wanted to thank you all at that moment for that, whoever you guys are, but i was still recovering from what happened)..

I walk out and go home. I couldn’t help it, but i was hurt.

Who wouldn’t be? People who have heard me sing, think that i am “naturally” good at singing. (Doesn’t mean i dont appreciate you guys tolerate my singing) , but they don’t know about the countless nights at home when my whole family is sleeping and i take my guitar and practice, practice for hours to get that song right, to do justice to that song. When i sing a song, i believe that i wrote every single word of it and its my job to make sure that the listeners feel, and understand the purpose of the song. When you literally put you heart and soul into something…and then dont get what you deserve..you can’t help but feel bad.

But like everything, this experience has taught me something. It made me ask myself, why i sing?

Today, 200 music lovers gave me first place, while two judges thought i don’t deserve anything.

I guess that makes me a winner

Some people when they go for trips, they plan what clothes to bring, where to stop for food or where to fill fuel. But we are not some people, we are Ckp students. We went to Mekedatu a week ago (Arjun brought his Pimped out ride) along with Fattoo (aka Jiwani), Dilip and Abraham.

Basically all we planned about was that we were going to swim and have some beers , turns out Abraham forgot his trunks (a huge battle with his mom) , Arjun was suffering from a hangover (brought some fried chicken with him) Dilip was waiting for 2 hours in petrol bunk with enough alcohol to run two trucks.

Somehow, we left (around noon..we planned to start by 7am). The journey was kicka**! We took turns at driving while running over cattle and homeless people. We finally reached, and then realized that crossing the damn 3 feet river was going to cost us 40 rupees each! We crossed the river, and Akshay didn’t even wait for a second to get naked (due to the presence of children, akshay kept his underwear on). We all jumped into the lake and had a blast with the garbage thrown in the lakes and the strong currents.

After the swim was time for Fish Fry…yeah. I unfortunately suffered severe trauma after having a beer (ya, a single one). Coming back home was even more fun because everyone except Arjun was drunk (note: Abraham and Akshay were high on imaginary crack)…Entering Bangalore was a fun experience since we were stuck in traffic for 3 hours(while listening to tamil versions of hindi songs).

Coming to the point, Abraham shot a lot of footage during the trip which he edited (While Arjun did the titles) and this whole pointless yapping was to give a build up to this video. Enjoy!

Had some free time, so decided to do another Visual Effects clip. This took some effort let me tell you (designing the interface etc..) but it has turned out really good. Tell me what you think.

Hey, what can i say? Shooting stuff that makes no sense, and having the freedom to do anything while editing is starting to become very enjoyable. So, dont take this seriously, it’s just us having some fun at college and showing our love to Micheal Jackson while making a public announcement against ragging…all at the same freaking time. Enjoy!

Anywho, i thought i will go back to the good old days (What would you do 1) and edit this entirely in Windows Movie Maker (its pretty obvious anyway).

Hope you laugh at us after you see this video!

Ps: I have observed you guys dont leave comments on the blog, please do, because when i chat online with you, (the readers) thats the only time you tell me what you liked and didn’t like. When i started this blog, i intended it to be a site where we could discuss stuff (basically disagree with what i say) , so please if you have an opinion, anything, please do leave a comment on the site and not only on Facebook ( i do appreciate that a lot anyway).

Also, if you got tired of checking the site for any new posts, on the right side of the blog, there is a orange icon with the words

Written in White color, please click that and you will be taken to a new page, where you enter you e-mail id, and then you will be notified by mail everytime i write anything new..so that you can avoid checking the site for new blog posts.
