<ga:subjectLine>Pride in a historic resolution</ga:subjectLine>
<ga:textBody>Dear %pa-first_name%,

Yesterday, the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights passed a historic resolution in support of a statewide fairness bill that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

The Kentucky Fairness Alliance applauds the Commission and we ask that you join us in expressing our appreciation, admiration and solidarity.

By adding your name to a community statement of appreciation, you can help us demonstrate our unity and camaraderie with the Commission.

Reinforcing the significance of the Commission's resolution and the need for a statewide fairness law, yesterday, The Williams Institute* released a report showing that same-sex couples live in every county across our great Commonwealth. That study was compiled using U.S. Census data and is further evidence of our integral role in the vitality of the Commonwealth's economy and social fabric. We must continue to mobilize our resources, educate those around us, and encourage our public officials to stand-up for full civil rights protections in every county in Kentucky.

Thank you for all you do,
The KFA Team

P.S. Stop by the KFA booth tomorrow at Kentuckiana Pride to register for free tickets to see Melissa Etheridge!

*The Williams Institute is a division of the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law that advances sexual orientation and gender identity inclusive public policy through scholarly work.

The Ampersand symbolizes the solidarity we are building through Friends & Family, and suggests the inclusiveness we are working toward. It reflects the idea that no one individual, legislator, organization, or city can carry all the water for equality. Our success lies in our solidarity.

<ga:textBody>Starting this Friday you can check out two more installments in the Louisville Gay & Lesbian Film Series at Village 8 Theaters: "The Houseboy" and "Finn's Girl."

Ricky is a lost boy looking for love in all the wrong places in Spencer Schilly's "The Houseboy." Faced with the impending end of his relationship, he turns to internet hookups as a source of human connection. As his transitory romps fail to ease his loneliness, he begins to consider more drastic measures.
http://www.village8.com/glfs/glfs_films_houseboy.htm

"Finn's Girl" is a brave examination of contemporary family values from co-directors Laurie Colbert and Dominique Cardona. Dr. Finn Jefferies has lost her partner and lost touch with her rebellious daughter. Their grief sends them on parallel paths of destruction, while their suffering challenges their concepts of who they really are.

The film follows 20-year-old Manu's relationships: with his sister Julie, patron and friend Adrien, married couple Medhi (a police officer) and Sarah (a writer and new mother). Their entangled involvements force all of them to question their assumptions and confront their true desires.

"Kiss the Bride" is an ambitious romantic comedy starring Tori Spelling, Philipp Karner, and James O'Shea. Matt and Ryan have lost touch since their more-than-friendship in high school. When he hears Ryan is marrying a woman, Matt sets out for his hometown to rescue his old flame.

<ga:textBody>State Supreme Court says same-sex couples have right to marry - San Francisco Chronicle
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/05/15/BAGAVNC5K.DTL

Dear %pa_first_name%,

Today's historic decision in California is a victory for all Americans who cherish fairness and equal opportunity. This victory energizes our own efforts to continue working for fairness and equality for GLBT families in Kentucky.

Two people in a devoted, trusting and loving relationship deserve the dignity and support that come with the legal acknowledgement of that commitment. According to the 2000 census, there are over 7000 unmarried couples in Kentucky, many with children. They and their children deserve the security and protection of a legally acknowledged relationship.

While the California decision is historic, we already know from several years of marriage for same-sex couples in Massachusetts that it is not the terrible thing that opponents of marriage say it is. In fact, it's just the opposite. We look forward to the day when committed couples in Kentucky have the same chance to legalize their relationships.

The California Supreme Court did its job today: to ensure that all Californians are treated fairly and equally under the law according to their state constitution. Kentucky Fairness Alliance will continue to work for a day when all Kentuckians are treated equally and fairly under the statutues of our Commonwealth.

In solidarity,

Your KFA Team
