The Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia is offering scholarships to 3 Kenya citizens at university level to learn Indonesian Language, Art and Culture. The program is called Darmasiswa Scholarship and will take place for a period of 1 year from August/September 2018.

The Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia will cater for tuition fees and provide a monthly stipend of Rp.2,950,000 (approx. USD 219) or Rp.2,550,000 (approx.USD188) depending on the cities where the student will be staying while the costs of air fare and accommodation will be borne by the students.

OFID Scholarship Award for master’s degree studies

The The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) Scholarship Award supports outstanding young individuals from developing countries so that they are able to pursue graduate studies in a development-related field. The program, which is currently in its twelfth year of operation, has to date helped 40 young people complete their education.

Applicants who have obtained or are on the verge of completing their undergraduate degree, and who wish to study for a Master’s degree are welcome to apply for the OFID Scholarship.

OFID scholarships will be awarded to students or candidates for master’s degree studies. Applicants must be from a developing country (except OFID Member Countries), and he/she must first obtain admission to pursue a Master’s degree studies in a relevant field of development, from any recognized university/college in the world

How to Qualify

Just by applying to the University of East Anglia (UEA) through UCAS , you qualify for the scholarship, if you receive an offer to study at UEA, you will automatically be awarded the scholarship.

In addition to the scholarship above, applying students are encouraged to apply for UEA’s International Excellence Scholarships worth 25% and 50% of successful applicants' entire tuition fee. Successful applications will replace the Kenyan Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship.

The KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Programme, an internationally renowned health research
programme and Pwani University, one of the dynamic young Universities in Kenya,
are jointly offering opportunities for a fully funded Postgraduate Diploma
studentship in Research Methods. These unique studentships, which are funded
under the Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders (IDeAL), provide an
opportunity for recent graduates to gain theoretical and practical knowledge of research
within an international research environment through attachment at the KEMRI-
Wellcome Trust Programme and supervision and mentorship by researchers from
KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme and Pwani University.
Applications are invited from people who have completed and graduated their
Bachelor’s degree in 2016 and 2017 in the following areas

Selection Process

The Mandela Washington Fellowship is conducted as a merit-based open competition. After the deadline, all eligible applications will be reviewed by a selection panel. Chosen semifinalists will be interviewed by the U.S. embassies or consulates in their home countries. If selected for an interview, applicants must provide a copy of their passport (if available) or other government-issued photo identification to verify eligibility.

Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, socio-economic status, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity. The Mandela Washington Fellowship is open to young African leaders who meet the following criteria:

UHAI's Internship Programme

As part of UHAI's commitment to strengthening East Africa's LGBTI and sex worker movements, we run an Internship Programme that offers two LGBTI and sex workers identifying activists opportunity to work at UHAI for 3-6 months, every January and July. Skills acquired in the course of the internship are then transferred to their home organisations after the internship period.

A modest stipend to help cover transport, accommodation and meal costs is provided during internship, as well as reimbursement for relocation and transport for successful interns coming in from out of Nairobi, including from East African countries other than Kenya. In all recruitment, UHAI upholds the principle of equality under the universally recognised legal human rights framework.

Duration of the Internship:

The internship opportunity runs on a three-month ‘block’ basis. Interns will be accorded opportunity to apply for a further term of three months on successful completion of the first term of three months. No further extensions of internship are granted after completing six months.

As a research and community health development association, KCBHFA recognizes the dual benefits that can be derived from internship and volunteer attachment programmes. The organization therefore offers local internship and volunteer opportunities. While both volunteer attachments and internship may be part of a learning programme, volunteer opportunities are also offered to out-of school candidates who may be on vacation or who want to contribute to community service.

Selection Criteria

· Interns shall be recruited through notices on the KCBHFA website, indicating the type of interns required, the period of time each is needed and the deadline for applying for the internship.

Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals with strong academic backgrounds who also have demonstrable leadership potential. The scholarship offers financial support to study for a Master's degree at any of the UK's leading universities and the opportunity to become part of an influential global network of 44,000 alumni. The call for new applicants follows the selection of 28 scholars from Kenya, who won an award to study at a UK university this year. There are approximately 1,500 Chevening Awards on offer globally for the 2016/2017 academic cycle. These scholarships represent a significant investment from the UK Government to develop the next cohort of global leaders.

Africa Economic Research Consortium Masters Scholarship

AERC provides a number of scholarships to aspiring students from institutions participating in the CMAP, which are not offering the Master of Arts programme (Category A universities), to study at universities that do offer the degree course (Category B universities).

To merit consideration, candidates should apply and be accepted by one of the category B universities. The Head of the Economics Department at their respective university should endorse applications for AERC support. Amongst other qualifying factors, criteria for selection for AERC support include the following:

Applicant must be on staff development at a Category A university or be an outstanding individual recommended by the department.
Must be employed by the public sector, ideally in key ministries, such as Planning, Finance, Industry, Commerce or in the Central bank; and
Must be admitted to a Category B university.
Qualified women are particularly encouraged to apply.

Deadlines
Deadlines for applications for MA scholarships vary according to the Category B university's academic calendar: 31 March for universities teaching October to June, and 30 September for those teaching March to December.

ILRI-DAAD PhD Scholarship Mitigation of Greenhouse gas Emissions-Kenya

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works to enhance the roles livestock play in pathways out of poverty in developing countries. ILRI is a member of the CGIAR Consortium, a global research partnership of 15 centres working with many partners for a food-secure future. ILRI has two main campuses in East Africa and other hubs in East, West and southern Africa and South, Southeast and East Asia. www.ilri.org. DAAD is a German Academic Exchange service which is a publicly funded, self-governing organization of the institutions of higher education in Germany. DAAD promotes international academic exchange as well as educational co-operation with developing countries through a variety of funding and scholarship programs.

ILRI Research Project: Mitigation of Greenhouse gas Emissions

The project aims to generate a comprehensive baseline data for greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions from agricultural systems in East Africa region. It also works to systematically characterize major farming systems for GHG emissions. Because most sub-Saharan African countries have agricultural dependent economies (estimates above 30% GDP), development plans must consider the environmental impact of different intensification pathways in terms of GHG emissions but also with regard to water supply and water quality or biodiversity – that are designed to achieve food security in the region.

Graduate Fellowship Project Title: Developing locally validated emission factors for a set of typical African smallholder livestock systems

The position

The output of the PhD project will provide accurate emission factors for at least 3-4 different African cattle feeding practices using local feed resources. This will also provide important insights into dietary and animal factors that may be employed in improving animal productivity as well as developing new mitigation options in the African smallholder context.

Responsibilities

Characterize smallholder livestock productions systems within sub-Saharan countries using new data to be generated in this project.
Formulate diets that typify feeding practices and feed composition in the identified systems.
Design in consultation with ILRI supervisor animal feeding trials, and implement them.
Samples collection and analysis.
Data collection and processing.
Writing of thesis and drafting of articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals

Essential Skills and Qualifications will include:

A minimum of MSc from. From a recognized university in ruminant nutrition or any animal production.
Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or Veterinary Science (minimum B- average)
At least one year experience of livestock handling and husbandry in an intensive research setting
Demonstrated solid understanding of research design and statistical analytical principles.

Terms of appointment: ILRI will offer a competitive stipend to cover living expenses in the project location(s). The successful candidate will be supervised jointly by an ILRI scientist and the university/academic supervisor.

ILRI-DAAD PhD Scholarship Food Safety and Zoonosis – African Bioservices project – Kenya

ILRI Research Project: African Bioservices project

African Bioservices project will implement an empirical study in the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem to demonstrate how drivers of change – including climate, land use and demographic changes influence key elements of biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. The project also plans to link the changes in the types of ecosystem services with socio-economic impacts using sustainable livelihoods framework.

Graduate Fellowship Project Title: Effects of the changes in biodiversity and ecosystem services on human health and wellbeing in the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem, southwest Kenya

The position:

The African Bioservices project has a very limited focus on infectious diseases and this PhD position will allow contribute to the development of a tool that links trade-offs in ecosystem services with occurrence and transmission of selected zoonotic diseases (including brucellosis, leptospirosis, and trypanosomosis), using methods that have been developed under the Dynamic Drivers of Disease in Africa: livestock/wildlife, human health and wellbeing project. This position will add value to the project’s (AfricanBioservices) activities and it will also contribute to Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH) program’s System Level Outcomes on ImprovedNatural Resource Systems and Ecosystem Services.

Responsibilities:

Manage field surveys including collection of secondary and primary data on the target zoonotic diseases in people and livestock.
Conduct spatial analyses on the distribution of diseases in the study area.
Correlate the changes in ecosystem services quantified by the project team with spatial distribution of the diseases being studied.

Essential Skills and Qualifications will include:

MSc in epidemiology, geography, public health.

Minimum of two years’ research experience with a good number of scientific publications, technical reports and/or conference presentations.
Excellent quantitative skills including application of GIS techniques in infectious disease epidemiology.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

NAIROBI, KENYA: The Board of Directors of the Co-operative Bank is pleased to announce a new annual intake of 655 bright but needy students across the country to join the Co-op Foundation Scholarship Scheme in 2015.
Of the 655 new scholarships to the incoming Form One students, 420 will be awarded by the bank’s Regional Delegates’ Forums and the remaining 235 scholarships, at 5 per county, will be awarded by the County Governments in all the 47 counties, the bank’s Group Managing Director and CEO Dr. Gideon Muriuki has said.
Additionally, the bank will be educating a total of 119 students, selected from the top performing beneficiaries of the secondary , through their entire university education.
After this year 2015 intake, the Co-operative Bank will have provided free education to 3,472 young Kenyans, of whom 3,353 will have gone through secondary education and 119 university studies. The scholarships are awarded on merit to promising but needy students from all regions of Kenya.
