President's Day

Sometimes all you need is a Monday off to rejuvenate you and get going again. It's not often that I get to work from a coffee shop. I know it doesn't really sound that special to those of you who get to do it any ol' time you want, but I look forward to it every chance I get. So for my President's Day, I had a lunch date with my sweet husband (which I also always look forward to) at Mitchell Deli, and then a tea/work party with myself at Barista Parlour. Not sure if it was the Organic Golden Needle tea, the atmosphere, or the red lipstick I was wearing, but I was so productive. I know, it was probably the red lipstick, I should wear it more often. I was able to snap a photo at Barista Parlour, but not at Mitchell. My husband gets very annoyed when I teak pictures, and seing as we don't get to grab lunch together often, I didn't want to ruin it.

Pennant Banner

I recently made a pennant banner for a friend's daughter's 3rd birthday party. I had so much fun making this banner and it is something they can use over and over agin for years to come. Here are some quick picture instructions. Enjoy!

Trace and cut fabric.

Apply iron-on fabric adhesive and cut out letters. Iron letters on pennant fabric.

Hand stitch around each letter for decoration and added security.

(I chose gold thread)

Cut backing for each pennant.

Pin fabric right side facing each other and sew along the sides whereI drew lines.

Make sure to snip the bottom corners and put a small cut in the middle where the angles meet.

Turn right side out and iron.

Finally, sew all pennants into bias tape, and add any decorations (like the little pom poms).

The hardest/ most time consuming part is the and stitches, but you can easily do those while watching TV on the couch with your loved ones, or on your commute to work, so it's not so bad. You can make this banner for anything from birthdays to weddings to bedroom decor.

Creeper Baby Bib Part 2

After breaking my last needle last night and ending up completely frustrated, I took a nice long soak in a bubble bath to take my mind off of all of yesterday's failures. Today was a new day and when I came home from work I finished up the creeper baby bib. It isn't perfect (of course I can see every little imperfection and they all drive me crazy) but it is super cute.

DIY passport holder

My weekend project:

I made this passport holder over the weekend. It was too hot to go outside and enjoy the sunshine so I just stayed in my sewing room and worked on a few projects. Came across this great pdf to-do list printable by Design With Life. I love it because not only does it have a daily to-do list but it also has space for meal planning, grocery lists and weekly appointments. You can print out a whole bunch of these and put them in a bider for the year, or print them out week by week and throw them away.

Hair Boot Camp

Just found this great post about all hair types and how to keep them healthy and looking good over at the beauty department. I can't wait to get started on my hair boot camp. I have virgin hair and I have always kept it short, not that I am growing it out and it is about 3 inches below my shoulders I really need to start taking great care of it. Heart Hand Warmers

These little guys are so easy and quick to make, and perfect for little Valentines Day gifts for your friends. Cut out four identical hearts in any color of fleece material. I chose to do two colors, grey and purple.

Sew two of the hearts right sides facing out, leaving a small opening to drop the rice.

Insert the rice into the small opening. You can use a funnel, I just dropped it in. Once you have filled it with rice move the rice as far from the opening as possible and sew up the whole.

Now you have cute little hand warmers to keep in your pocket on those cold winter days. Stick them in the microwave for about 30 seconds to warm them up and you are ready to go. I wish I had these when I lived in Brooklyn, would have made my daily commute to the city much more comfortable.

New Year

Merry Christmas

This was our second christmas as a married couple. It truly gets sweeter each year. We had a beautiful day with his family, and this year my mother came up from Texas to join us. How will next year even be able to compare? I hope everyone else had a wonderful Christmas (or just a wonderful day)!
