I went on a date last night. It's been a while, but not so long that I don't know what a decent date should be like.

I may not remember what I had for breakfast this morning, but I DO remember, albeit vaguely, what a fun date should be: The warm feels of physical attraction, enjoying an activity with someone, the exciting engagement of like minds, the flutter of joy at meeting someone who has potential to be a significant person in your life, anticipation of what might come.

Last night had none of that.

Today's adventure: Tales From the RV Park - Stray Cats and Wounded Men. I am at an RV park in southern Alabama. I've been here about a year. There are around 100-150 people here, mostly seniors, mostly single. Lots of heavy drinkers. As some of you may recall, I don't drink any more.

Oddities during the Time of The Coronapocalypse.

I learned I love stillness in the world.

I learned I have grandiose dreams (yeah, I know that shouldn't come as such a surprise to me) that I will not fulfill when given half the chance. (<--- THAT came as the real surprise.) I attended a virtual memorial for a friend. There were over 150 people on the Zoom call honoring JG's memory. He was a good man who touched many lives and helped countless people. I aspire to do half as well as JG. I had a birthday anniversary of my 29th birthday during the Coronapocalypse and no one came. (Ok, ok, no one could come, but that's not the point.) I had cake for breakfast, pizza for lunch, and exercised for dinner. I learned you could finish Netflix. Disney+, sure. But Netflix? Never saw that coming.  And most surprising to me, I miss the energy of people.

It was a crisp, cold day in St. Paul, Minnesota, the kind where the air is so clear that you can see for miles. And there was nothing to do - all. day. long. It was f'n cold out, too cold to go outside for long. And that was almost the only notable part of the trip. The Cathedral of St Paul and bunny footprints were the best.

Y'all know how I don't like to be on the gulf coast when big storms are coming. Until the hurricane passes, I usually go up the road a ways to Mississippi. On one of those trips, I stayed at LeFleur's Bluff State Park right in Jackson. It's a beautiful park right on the Pearl River.

There are many stray kitties at this RV park and one, in particular, is noticeably friendlier: She doesn't run off and hide like the other feral kitties. She will hang around and "talk" to you - even after she's been fed. (Of course I feed her. Hellooo... rescuer of strays, here.)

I'm pretty sure I was drawn to this place for a reason - the Cheezy Americana energy is strong. Like the Force is strong in the Star Wars' Universe. Goofy roadside attractions are all over: Lady in the Lake, Dinosaurs in the Woods, Knights in the Woods, World's Largest Sundial, Caesars Palace fountain.

If a cat is petrified and dead, was it scared to death?

(Ahahahaa! I crack me up!)

Seriously, folks, there's a petrified (dead, not scared) cat in Pensacola. No, I'm not talking about Pye, my bi-polar feline companion for whom I occasionally consider finding a new home... she is alive and well and scratching the crap out of my furniture.

I am talking about a dead cat on display, no less, in a museum. Yup, right here in the good ol' USA can you find such treasures at the local museum as a petrified (dead, not scared) cat on display.
