Happy New Year!

2011-01-02T08:05:00.000-08:00

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year holiday! KESS enjoyed having a few free days to spend with family! The weather in Ohio has been nice- snow for Christmas and warmer temperatures to ring in the New Year. Too bad we cannot keep these current mild temperatures, but as many states, Ohio has some nutty weather over the winter and you cannot get too use to the weather before it changes.

How about some history of New Years?

The Romans dedicated this day to Janus, the god of gates, doors, and beginnings. The month of January was named after Janus, who had two faces, one looking forward and the other looking backward. This suggests that New Year's celebrations are founded on pagan traditions. Some have suggested this occurred in 153 BC, when it was stipulated that the two annual consuls (after whose names the years were identified) entered into office on that day, though no consensus exists on the matter.^[1] Dates in March, coinciding with the spring equinox, or commemorating the Annunciation of Jesus, along with a variety of Christian feast dates were used throughout the Middle Ages, though calendars often continued to display the months in columns running from January to December.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Year%27s_Day

Interesting, huh?

Now I want to know, where did New Years Resolutions come from?

So did you set resolutions for yourself this year? I have a few:

1.) Not only do I plan to lose weight as everyone does, but I plan to become more active in exercising. In December I started a Zumba class and I very much love it! Who would have thought exercising could be so much fun! I plan to continue that class and look into some other exercising classes. Would even like to find something for my husband.

2.) Continue to grow KESS! KESS is my new business and my plans are to really get it moving in 2011! Thank you to everyone who reads my blogs, to my current customers and everyone who has supported me!

This year I hope to get KESS Eventions popular. If you know anyone who has children's birthday parties or other gatherings coming up, give us a shout out and we will help you make a memorable day for your child! Anyone who books the month of

January will get $25 off of their event planning!

3.) Spend even more time with loved ones! I plan to find all the free/fun activities I can for family fun times, then I will share them with you so you can enjoy the fun activities as well.

I hope to make 2011 an exciting year for both my business and my family! Pass the word about all the fun stuff KESS Design & Marketing Group has to offer and above all have a wonderful and exciting 2011!

Time Travel Into the World of Cartoons!

2010-12-05T08:14:00.000-08:00

Who likes cartoons? Honestly, who doesn't? Cartoons are one of those fun things to watch that allows you just for a moment to forget everything else in the real world and just enjoy the moment. They can be funny or just fun and cute....

What are some of your favorite cartoons? I have too many to mention- I love lots of cartoons! I was one of the 80s cartoon watchers and I get so excited when I see one of those pop on the TV. One of these days I am going to break down and get Boomerang channel so I can watch more of them.

In my opinion, today's cartoons are just silly and some of them I wonder if they really are good for kids to watch....what do you think? But the cartoons I grew up with and the ones a decade previous were great!

Cartoon's of the 80s rock! What is your favorite cartoon era?

Cartoons held a special place in our hearts! Many of the toys we played with were based off of the cartoons we watched.

Today, as we grow and get older, we can look back at those cartoons and they bring back special memories of our childhood! Do you light today when you see any of your favorite cartoons on the television or on a DVD set? How about when you see the toys you had in stores or online?

Do your kids enjoy some of the old cartoons? Mine do. My daughters love when Tom and Jerry and Scooby Doo are on TV. Sure, they are not always the original shows like we watched but Tom and Jerry has not changed much over the years. Watching my kids watch my favorite shows sure makes me smile.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!

Happy Thanksgiving!

2010-11-25T10:34:00.000-08:00

What are you thankful on this wonderful Thanksgiving Day?

We are thankful for family, health, freedom and so much more! Let's think back to the meaning of Thanksgiving. How did it start? Have you ever thought about that day when the Indians and Pilgrims came together in 1621?

The Pilgrims got together in November 1621, after the first successful corn harvest, for a celebratory feast organized by Governor William Bradford and invited a group of Indians including Wampanoag chief Massasoit, This is now known as the first Thanksgiving. This feast lasted three days.

Did you know that Thanksgiving was not a National Holiday until November 1863? Yes, it was celebrated by different states at different times, then President Lincoln made it a National Holiday in 1863.

Abraham Lincoln finally heeded her request in 1863, at the height of the Civil War, in a proclamation entreating all Americans to ask God to “commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife” and to “heal the wounds of the nation.” He scheduled Thanksgiving for the final Thursday in November, and it was celebrated on that day every year until 1939, when Franklin D. Roosevelt moved the holiday up a week in an attempt to spur retail sales during the Great Depression. Roosevelt’s plan, known derisively as Franksgiving, was met with passionate opposition, and in 1941 the president reluctantly signed a bill making Thanksgiving the fourth Thursday in November (http://www.history.com/topics/thanksgiving/page2).
The traditions have changed some over the years, the date of Thanksgiving has even changed slightly, but the meaning has not. Thanksgiving is a time set aside for Americans to think about their blessings. We go through a lot of challenges in our lives, this is one day to set aside and count the blessing and good things we have in our lives. People in our lives come and go, so let us enjoy those who celebrate with us and remember those who are no longer with us. Let's give Thanks to God for the blessings he has given us. Let's give Thanks to those soldiers and others who have fought to keep our country safe- just like the ones in the past who have worked hard to make this country home of the free! Let us think about the true meaning of Thanksgiving and the upcoming holiday season as Thanksgiving has become the kick-off for the upcoming season!

Thank you to everyone reading my blog. I invite you today to comment with what you are thankful for and what Thanksgiving means to you! Don't eat too much today and have a wonderful day!

Thanksgiving Break...

What do you plan to do if you are lucky enough to have a few days off? I started my vacation today- wasted a good bit of the day sleeping. Was quite surprised when I realized that neither the girls nor myself was up and it was 10 am. Guess we needed the rest.

Fallen soldier honored in Circleville today

2010-10-28T15:54:00.000-07:00

WOW was all I could say following what I thought was a funeral precession today. It was one of those days that I was lucky enough to take a half vacation to attend my daughter's pre-school Halloween party, and on my way while stopping at a light several policemen/highway patrol stopped traffic and drove down the route, just in front of me. What was strange is they took both lanes and allowed no one to pass. I have to admit it was a very long ride, going about 35 mph on a 4-lane highway. They stopped at every traffic light. When they drove past through that intersection, I counted more than 20 law enforcement and just kept wondering who it was. It had to be someone important. Then as we go through a small town along the way the streets were busy with people with flags- that made me even more curious!

They got off on one of the roads that leads into my town of Circleville so I thought maybe they were headed to the cemetery in Circleville. Imagine my surprise when I get to downtown Circleville and the town is shut down/blocked. What on earth had I missed????

Well I call my husband who is to research it and when I reach my babysitter's house I ask her what was going on. When she told me I wanted to cry! It most certainly was someone important! Sure it was sad that I thought a member of the law enforcement had passed, but imagine my surprise when I was told it was a fallen soldier. "Spc. Gerald R. Jenkins, 19, died Wednesday when he was struck by an improvised explosive device while on foot patrol"(www.10TV.com).

To understand now why the roads were filled with people. I was upset to learn that we lost a hero, but was thrilled to understand the support that was being given by the community- WOW is all I can say looking back! How awesome is that that the community pulls together to support each other. Hubby gives me the rest of the details later, that the soldier was only 19 years old and he was suppose to be coming home within a matter of days.

How unfair is it that he came home early in this condition. My heart and prayers go out to that family! God Bless the Armed forces and God Bless our country!

Please join me in praying for this fallen soldier, his family and everyone who is serving in the military and their families! God Bless the USA!
