&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
For many swimmers there's something appealing about swimming 100m 100 times in a row. When long distance swimmers complete a training session of this magnitude they often record it in their blogs (e.g. Mark Robson or the Lake Ontario Swim Team (LOST!)) and according to Daily News of Open Water Swimming, it seems the training set has a long history. We've also read about triathletes who do this set as a birthday treat. As a means of covering 10km in a pool-based training session it's admirably straightforward and, for open water swimmers, it's a great test of pacing skills and mental and physical endurance. You can consider it as a stand-alone goal or use it as part of your training for a long-distance open water swim. But how difficult is it? &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Firstly, how good a swimmer do you need to be to contemplate such a training session?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;span style="color: red;"&gt;For elite level swimmers regularly covering 50km or more per week, the set could be completed by extending a regular 2-hour session by 30 minutes or so and the distance wouldn't cause any problems. For the rest of us it will present more of a challenge.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If you typically swim 3 to 4 times per week for an hour or more and have been doing so for 6 months you should be able to complete the distance without any additional training provided you're not susceptible to any swimming induced injuries. It will simply be a case of finding the time, making sure you have enough to eat and drink to get you through and starting at and maintaining an appropriate pace.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If you swim less than 3 times per week the distance may still be achievable. The key will be finding a sustainable pace, and having the time and will-power to keep plugging away. However, it may be better to set 100 100s as a medium term goal and build to it over a couple of months. If you think you can do it, you probably can.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Secondly, how do you go about it?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Step 1. Prepare yourself physically and mentally for the task. Depending on your fitness level, this could mean anything from just turning up to a few days of relatively light training and some carbo-loading or some longer-term training. You could also try visualisation techniques and imagine yourself swimming and completing the distance.&lt;br /&gt;
Step 2. Tell people you're going to do it - you'll be much less likely to give up if you've told someone you're going to swim 10km, and you may even find some other crazy person to join you, perhaps for the first or last 50 100s, if not for all.&lt;br /&gt;
Step 3. Have a nutrition plan. This doesn't need to be complicated and will depend how long you will be swimming but a couple of litres of water and some energy gels or bars will be plenty for most people. Make sure you have everything you need before you swim and perhaps put it all in an empty ice-cream container or something to leave at the end of the pool.&lt;br /&gt;
Step 4. Plan the swim. What will be your sustainable pace for each 100m and how much rest do you want after each? We suggest your 1500m race pace plus around 10s per 100m would be a sensible pace target, and 15s to 20s rest after each 100. So, if you swim 1500m in 25 minutes your pace is 1m40 per 100m so aim to swim each 100m in 1m50 and then take 20s rest. Also, decide whether you will stick to the same pace and intervals throughout or add some variety. We prefer the later approach but that's because we have trouble counting otherwise - see our suggested approach below. The Lake Ontario Swim Team give themselves a target of 100 100s on 100 - i.e. 100 x 100m on 100 seconds (or 1 minute 40 swim and rest for each 100m) - we estimate you'd need to be able to swim 1500m in under 21 minutes to reach the LOST target.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Finally, schedule in a couple of toilet breaks if you think you might need them . See below for the schedule Simon followed.&lt;br /&gt;
Step 5. err... swim.&lt;br /&gt;
Step 6. Recover and celebrate. Allow yourself a rest day or a couple of very light training sessions before resuming your normal training.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

Sample swim schedule&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1. 10x100m FC easy/warm up pace, + 10s rest after each 100m&lt;br /&gt;
2. Straight into 10x100m FC 1500m pace + 10s with 15s rest after each&lt;br /&gt;
3. Straight into 10x100m FC 1500m pace + 5s with 20s rest after each&lt;br /&gt;
4. Straight into 10x100m FC 1500m pace with 25s rest after each&lt;br /&gt;
Toilet break (5 minutes max)&lt;br /&gt;
5. 10x100m FC 1500m pace + 10s with 15s rest after each 100m&lt;br /&gt;
6. Straight into 10x100m FC 1500m pace + 5s with 15s rest after each&lt;br /&gt;
7. Straight into 10x100m FC 1500m pace with 15s rest after each&lt;br /&gt;
8. Straight into 10x100m FC at max sustainable pace with 5-10s rest after each&lt;br /&gt;
Toilet break (5 minutes max)&lt;br /&gt;
9. 10x100m FC 1500m pace + 10s with 15s rest after each 100m&lt;br /&gt;
10. 10x100m FC on same swim and rest interval as set 9 but each 100m faster than the previous one.&lt;br /&gt;

Will be starting my training with mark end of feb i hav been using jan and feb to build up some base and find 3km sets quite easy , Got a lot of 1km events booked up now an cant wait to start training and racing &lt;br /&gt;

People will be able to line the route to cheer as it makes its way to London in time for the opening ceremony just over a week later.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The route has not yet been revealed, but the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has worked closely with representatives from a number of sectors and further details will be given closer to the date.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
There will also be two evening celebration stops in Dover (July 18) and Maidstone (July 19) as well as lunchtime stops at two Kent locations, eight photo stops and two breakfast stops.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Further details on these locations will be announced later.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Sebastian Coe, pictured below, chairman of LOCOG, said: "We are thrilled to confirm that Medway will all act as a host location for the Olympic flame, extending an invitation to local people to welcome the Olympic Torch Relay during its journey around the UK.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
"This is the UK's moment to shine and I want to encourage people across Medway to start planning how they can be part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
Medway Council leader Cllr Rodney Chambers said: "It is great news. Without a doubt, the relay will be a fun and inspiring moment for Medway as people will be able to come along and support torchbearers and help showcase our area to those watching on television."&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The 70-day Olympic Torch Relay will start at Land's End on the morning of May 19, 2012.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
On leaving Land's End, the Olympic Flame will travel an estimated 8,000 miles around the UK giving thousands of communities and individuals the chance to see it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
On the final day of the Olympic Torch Relay, it is planned that the flame will travel down the River Thames as it makes its way to the Olympic Stadium for the start of the Games on Friday, July 27.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The Olympic Flame will be carried across the UK by 8,000 Torchbearers each of whom will have a story of personal achievement and/or contribution to the local community.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Successful nominees will be contacted in December with a conditional offer and final Torchbearer places will start to be confirmed from February 2012.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Today also sees LOCOG launch its Local Leaders initiative, an invitation to people to take the 2012 Games into their community and create their own celebrations for the torch relay and other key moments during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Sandra Matthews-Marsh, Chief Executive at Visit Kent, said: "We are delighted that so many of the county's iconic attractions will be showcased in the long route being taken by the Torch through Kent and Medway in addition to the key events at Dover and Leeds Castle, near Maidstone.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;

This is quite a big part of my build up ! What time i would love to get is 2:10-2:20 so going of this i would need to do the swimathon in april in 1:10-1:12 hour in 2011 i did the swimathon in 1:22 so got to lose 10mins over 5km !!!!! :o/ crasy so a lot of work to be done.&lt;br /&gt;

Been a good week of training, just been swimming no real run or bike apart from cycling to work, i will be getting coached from mark racher as of Feb time were in talks i will be looking to swim around 40-50km a week !! &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Gem will be helping me out as well with training and taken splits and times etc, really looking forward to racing this year, i have booked a 1mile swim race in june as well &lt;br /&gt;

Today was the starting block of my&amp;nbsp;training towards competeing at high level open water swimming ,&lt;br /&gt;
Started off my doing a 1500m TT witch is did in 23:23. ( can see my spilts on my swimming link top right of blog ) , Its not super fast but happy with this due to no real swimming done since my ironman in july 2012.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I will be doing this every 3rd week and getting my spilts from my mate lee ( who i work with a swim coach ) witch will help me all so be getting sets from Geoff whos runs a high proflie swimming club in Hatfield, and to top this off a good old mate Mark Racher will be over seeing all my training as of Feb 2012. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
All ready after chatting to Mark it looks like i will be doing around 40-44km a week of swimming with weights as well. But again i wont be starting my real blocks of training till then i will be building my body up to be able to take on the volume of the swimming in need to do :o) &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I have joined some new and very good websites to do with long course open swimming so fair the people have meet have been so nice and full of advice as well witch is nice.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I will start blogging a few of the sets i will be doing but dont wont to give to much away :o) &lt;br /&gt;

This week started not great as had a mare of a weekend at work :o/ really not feeling it any more working weekends it sucks so much !!!!&lt;br /&gt;

Sunday is when i am ment to get my long base run in but it didnt happen the other day so tried to fit this in this morning .... didnt happen got around 6miles in and felt crap .... nothing in me so called it a day as i still have the rest of the week to go ,i need to aim my training on my running and not my swimming as i feel at the moment iam thinking about Dart 10km to much and need to get my head down for the half marathon i have coming up etc.&lt;br /&gt;

Good news - Got asked to me my mates best man the other day witch i am buzzing about :o) go greatfull to have been asked ,&amp;nbsp; taken of weeding me and gem have 6 weddings to go to this year 6 !!! bloody crazy , of course the best one i feel will my little sister getting married :o) cant wait for tis one going to be a great day for sure.&lt;br /&gt;

At the moment this is the only way i can swim in a 25m pool :o/ not the best but hey bettercant wait for the lakes to open so i can get it and use it fot the long base sets i have coming up,&lt;br /&gt;

I'am getting help from a mate lee whos a swimming coach but he did lake winderme in 2011 soknows what training i will need to do &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1449 lengths of a 25m pool = 22.5 miles ( around the distance for the channel )&lt;br /&gt;
1288 lengths in a 25m pool = 20miles of swimming &lt;br /&gt;
644 lengths in a 25m pool = 10miles of swimming (10.4miles is lake winderme)&lt;br /&gt;
322 lengths in a 25m pool = 5miles of swimming ( swimathon )&lt;br /&gt;
161 lengths in a 25m pool = 2.5miles of swimming ( just longer then the ironman swim )&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Looking at the numbers is a real wake up call into how much swimming i will need todo for the events i have planned next few years,all so the cold of racing with out a wetsuit &lt;br /&gt;

Feeling good about my training now been 4 weeks building back in to a base of fitness :o) my open water swimming will start in April , there is a new lake open on my door step witch is allways cool. again the A race this year will be Dart 10km swim hopefully get a new wetsuit as well ( fingers x )&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
monday 6am-3pm&lt;br /&gt;
swimming paddles with this was working on 2 x 800m &lt;br /&gt;
turbo set&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;main set 30min flat out &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
tuesday 6am-3pm&lt;br /&gt;
1hour run with 5x200m maz out sets&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
wednesday 6am-3pm nandos with gems :o) my fave dinner &lt;br /&gt;
50min run base &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
thursday off work exam in london and stay over in hitchin catch up with mum and mate Guy for dinner&lt;br /&gt;
swimming 100's&lt;br /&gt;
turbo &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
friday off work but drive back to kent am&lt;br /&gt;
running hills&lt;br /&gt;

Looking forward to paying for the Dark 10km open water swim race as this will be to me a bigger thing then my ironman and some thing i feel i can do well in with the long course swimming , my first test will be in april when do the swimathon &lt;br /&gt;

Hey all what a great christmas and new year i had way to much food and drink but had the best time ever with best friends and family &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Down side i am 11.5 stone ...... or was this week i have been back to full training again and eatting well ( thanks to the wife for that a hero with her cooking ) &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As you can see my A race is Sliverstone were iam planing to do my 1st ever sub 1:30 hour half , after that the plan will be loads of TT events with the club and sprint triathlons . &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
So this week so fair have done &lt;br /&gt;

The first place finisher in each age category will score 1000 points. The points scored will then decrease by 10% (rounded up or down to the nearest whole number) with each subsequent finishing position. 20th, for example, scores 139 points.&lt;br /&gt;

However looking to get though 2011, 2012 as well :o) . &lt;br /&gt;

Then plan is to start getting club nights up and running and this is were my new job will come in to play and means then can make weekend training all the time etc , working shifts sucks ( well the lates and weekends do ) .&lt;br /&gt;

Again as for my self part from sliverstone half marthon booked up i have nothing else yet but for sure will be doing mid week 10's tt witch are set up just down the road from myself .&lt;br /&gt;

Did a 2hour swim in total with a mix of 100's sets and some paddle work with finshing of with speed work :o) it went very well :o) &lt;br /&gt;
Have hooked up with a 70.3 triathlete called peter who is very local ( just down the road lol ) a machine on the bike i hear witch will help with me waiting to TT next year , and looking forward to a bit of a race on come sprints etc next year if i do a triathlon ...... have to wait and see etc .&lt;br /&gt;
So hopefully this is the start of some training coming back into place &lt;br /&gt;
