Industrial Archaeologists from Michigan Technological University’s Department of Social Sciences have been working hard at the Cliff Mine site to document the area. After several weeks of work, the work team is ready to show people what they have found. They are giving site tours every Saturday in June. Tours will generally start on the hour, with the first tour beginning at 10 AM and the last starting at 4 PM each Saturday.

Here’s a reminder for the free events for this week.

New this week to the Keweenaw Free Guide Calendar are the great Exploring Nature programs at McLain State Park. These events (different ones are held throughout the summer) are free to guests of McLain State Park. You do need a motor vehicle permit to drive into the park. But walking in is always free :)

It is still being held from 2 to 4pm at the Eagle Harbor Conservation & Recreation Area. However, the meeting spot will be at the trailhead at Eliza Lake Park. More instructions can be found in the flyer HERE.

The description now also includes the activities that you’ll be taking part in during the hike: listening to frogs and using nets to sample the abundant life found in this diverse wetland complex.

It should be a fun and informative event for all ages!

He’s a local photographer and the author of Keweenaw Wildflowers Blooming Seasons.

Enjoy seeing and learning about 26 native orchids that grow in the rare habitats of the Keweenaw Peninsula. You’ll also be introduced to some of the Keweenaw’s rarest wildflowers, some of which grow on the rocky shores of Lake Superior, while others only inhabit the exposed gravely cliff banks along the ridges of the Keweenaw’s ancient mountain range.

Books will be available for sale at the library during this free presentation if you wish to purchase one, or can be obtained at many local bookstores. Have Harvey sign your copy if you have one!

NOTE: In case of bad weather, when school is cancelled, all library programs are cancelled.
