Snailgun: glass walls

Le début de la décennie précédente entre 2010 et 2015 révéla un nouvel âge de la musique néo-zélandaise souvent célébrée pour sa scène post punk du début des années 80. Une poignée de jeunes personnes se mit à produire une musique incroyable qui résonne encore de nos jours par son acuité sonore. Peu de de groupes , ils passaient de l’un à l’autre en un enregistrement. Pour résumer, The Gordons et Birthday Party en pères fondateurs et The Drones en ligne de mire. No wave, post punk, noise rock et swamp irriguaient les sorties de Sharpie Crows, Girls Pissing On Girls Pissing, Civil Union.. Sans oublier les débuts des australiens de Psalm, Beach, Witch Hats.

Snailgun n’a peut être jamais écouté ces formations mais il s’en rapproche tellement. Avec une différence sensible, n’hésitant pas à aller puiser dans la réserve noisy pop, la guitare renvoyant aux débuts des Wolfhounds et de My Bloody Valentine. A l’instar d’Unwound, le groupe fait discuter ses instruments pour accoucher de conclusions fiévreuses à l’image du final grandiose du morceau « It’s Called Fear ». C’est un magnifique premier album avec ses défauts et ses qualités qui regorge de sève mélodique et de morceaux entêtants..

Undunn Records possède à l’heure actuelle un catalogue discographique passionnant à l’image de l’album de No Hoper sorti l’année dernière ou du split ep paru récemment avec les incroyables Affordable Repayments.
