The Gunung Stong State Park (GSSP) is The Highest 7 tier Waterfall in S.E.Asia, gazeted as state park on October 2005 is listed among the top five unique ecotourism destinations in Malaysia.

GSSP covers an area of 21,950 hectares of land dotted with high peaks, dense forest, a variety of caves, rivers and waterfalls. Its thick jungle is home to elephants, tigers, bears, gibbons, hornbills and a range of other exotic wildlife, as well as a variety of flora and fauna including the world’s largest flower, the rafflesia of the kerii meyer species, and the endemic long-sectioned bamboo, a type of purple herb (Didymocarpus calcareous) and a unique palm species (Licuala stongesis).

With the assistance of a qualified and knowledgeable trekking guide, the journey uphill is made more meaningful as he points out species of wildlife sighted along the way. In good weather conditions, an experienced guide can take travelers along the scenic route of the waterfalls from the foot of Gunung Stong at least halfway before continuing inland for the rest of the hike up. This route showcases the waterfall cascading down from great heights along the solid granite rock structure, a breath-taking sight to behold.

At the peak of Stong Waterfalls is Baha’s Camp – and much-appreciated rest for tired legs. Weary travellers often make Baha’s Camp their pit stop for the night before continuing up Gunung Stong the following day. It has six wooden huts and two camping grounds that can accommodate between 150 and 200 people at one time. From here, one can sit at the edge of smooth, large rocks and watch the crystal-clear waters of Stong river rush down over the steep edge of the mountain. In the mornings, a thick fog floats in the air creating the dreamy effect of walking on clouds. By noon, the fog clears to reveal a magical view of the lush green valley below. When night descends, snuggle up by the campfire as the mysterious legends and folklores about the origins of Gunung Stong are unraveled.

From Baha’s Camp, it only takes a minute to walk over to the Kolam Tuan Puteri (Princess Pool) where one can enjoy a refreshing dip by the falls. About 25 minutes trek from Baha’s Camp is the Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells), a series of smaller waterfalls that empty into mini pools.Other places worth visiting and easily accessible from Baha’s Camp are:

The Y Waterfalls, also known as the “Last Waterfalls”, where separate waterfalls from two mountains, Gunung Stong and Gunung Ayam, meet. Legends abound that it is the proverbial fountain of youth as those who drink from it are said to retain a youthful appearance.Nice to swimming in the waterfall pool that is in a older 150 million years rainforest ( 30 minutes away from Baha's Camp)

We choose a boulder rock climbing new site in rubber tree plantation. It a great place & feel the season under the tree & wind.The rubber tree in Science name `Hevea brasiliensis` It is of major economic importance because the milky latex extracted from the tree is the primary source of natural rubber.

RUBBER TREE PLANTATION

In the wild, the tree can reach a height of up to 100 feet (30 m). The white or yellow latex occurs in latex vessels in the bark, mostly outside the phloem. These vessels spiral up the tree in a right-handed helix which forms an angle of about 30 degrees with the horizontal, and can grow as high as 45 ft. In plantations, the trees are generally smaller for two reasons:

1) Trees grow slower when they are tapped for latex, and

2) trees are generally cut after 30 years because latex production declines as trees age, and they are no longer economically viable. The tree requires a tropical or subtropical climate with a minimum of about 1200 mm/yr of rainfall, and without frost.If frost does occur, the results can be disastrous for production. One frost can cause the rubber from an entire plantation to become brittle and break once it has been refined

Harvest of Latex

Harvesters make incisions across the latex vessels, just deep enough to tap the vessels without harming the tree's growth, and the latex is collected in small buckets. This process is known as rubber tapping. Latex production is highly variable from tree to tree and across clone types.

History

The Pará rubber tree initially grew only in the Amazon Rainforest. Increasing demand and the discovery of the vulcanization procedure in 1839 led to the rubber boom in that region, enriching the cities of Belém and Manaus. The name of the tree derives from Pará, the second-largest Brazilian state, the capital of which is Belém. These trees were used to obtain rubber by the natives who inhabited its geographical distribution.

The Olmec people of Mesoamerica extracted and produced similar forms of primitive rubber from analogous latex-producing trees such as Castilla elastica as early as 3600 years ago.The rubber was used, among other things, to make the balls used in the Mesoamerican ballgame.

Early attempts were made in 1873 to grow H. brasilensis outside Brazil. After some effort, 12 seedlings were germinated at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. These were sent to India for cultivation, but died.

A second attempt was then made, some 70,000 seeds being smuggled to Kew in 1875, by Henry Wickham, at the service of the British Empire.About 4% of these germinated, and in 1876, about 2000 seedlings were sent, in Wardian cases, to Ceylon (modern day Sri Lanka) and 22 were sent to the Botanic Gardens in Singapore.

Once established outside its native country, rubber was extensively propagated in the British colonies. Rubber trees were brought to the botanical gardens at Buitenzorg, Java, in 1883.By 1898, a rubber plantation had been established in Malaya,

and today, most rubber tree plantations are in South and Southeast Asia, with some also in tropical West Africa. Efforts to cultivate the tree in South America (Amazon) were unsatisfactory because of blight.The blight, called South American leaf blight, is caused by the Ascomycota, Microcyclus ulei.

Youth Activity Climbing in Perlis,Malaysia at 1st November - 5November at Gua Kelam ( The Dark Cave )in Small town Kaki Bukit range of the limestone rainforest & Bukit Keteri (K3).Lead the group camping climbing & do a job volunteer to clean all area at that two site of climbing area.

Especially a lot to thanks for joining the group youth Hannah & Kavender from MOAB climbing Utah,USA. A long day friendly with a youth climb & learning a multiculcuture harmony people in Perlis,Malaysia. Hannah & Kavender learn more about the Malaysia culcuture & learn to speak in Bahasa Malaysia !! Welldone they achieve to speak in Malaysia Language very fast.will see they are growing fast with connection trully fun friendly & harmony attitude to better a reality friends.

Since we camp in Rainforest 2days 2night + 2days 2night staying with family mom Mazni at 1cafe are 2 situation place was so amazing Hannah & Kavender feels a traditional malays food a very delicious food in here http://1cafecateringperlis.blogspot.com near town Kangar.

The Jackfruit Curry(Nangka)Hannah really like it & Kavender very like a Sambal Belacan ( Chili Soy )to eat rice with use a hand.they feel a concept malays traditional & before going back they use two hand for shaking means in Malays call `SALAM`. Kaki Bukit small town location Gua Kelam ( The Dark Cave ) is favourite place to camp at rainforest,sports & motivation camp,trekking,night watching animal raptor flora fauna also camping.rock climbing site have a route for climbing,caving.

Limestone cave is one of the most interesting cave in Malaysia, the cave measuring 370-meters long with a small town near Kaki Bukit Hills.Cave is located in the foot hill about 36 km far from the town of Kangar.Cave formerly known ore mines that produce quality.Gua Kelam cave also be a connecting road between the people of Bukit Wang Kelian and small town Kaki Bukit. The latest, Dark Cave will be the new attractions in Perlis. Covering 370m limestone caves and is located in a small town in Foot Hill.Cave is called in conjunction with the condition in which the position in the foothills and dark atmosphere that always surrounds this cave.

To cross into the cave, provided a suspension bridge to the visitors. Dark Caves Recreational Park is famous for its street cave ("cave walk"). Long underground river about 400 meters flow through limestone ranges can be seen in the cave. This underground river is a natural occurrence of the phenomenon. Electricity supply is provided for visitors to enjoy the beauty of the cave. In 1935, a British citizen to realize that the path of the river here is a good way to transport tin ore from a mine near the river through underground caves to the Foot Hills.

Now local and foreign visitors can walk through this cave using a wooden path floodlit.Situated within Kaki Bukit town, the highlight of this park is Gua Kelam, limestone cave which is filled with interesting stalactite and stalagmite formations. This well-lit cave is believed to have been hollowed out from a limestone massif by an underground stream over many eons. Located nearby is Gua Kelam ii which is suitable for more experienced cavers & Camping site in Rainforest
