I planned to do this post since long time when I first discover Easy Battery Saver. It happened to me when I was on the trip to Sihanoukville. I forgot to charge my phone. I was using Samsung Galaxy S. In the morning, my battery was at the critical level, one bar only.

I turned the optimization of Easy Battery saver to “Super Power Saving Mode”! You know what happened?

My phone was survived until I arrived in Phnom Penh at night. I even received some calls but short conversation only.

That’s incredible!

Why the smart phone runs out of battery so fast?

You have to understand, on your smartphone there are many apps. The more you install apps on your phone, the faster your phone runs out of battery.

This is because most of the apps have their background service that runs automatically with a default period. Even you don’t turn on the Apps by yourself, they are smart enough to run what they need to do.

The first thing you need to do is to install only the apps you need. I saw many friends who went to a mobile shop, they came back with a lot of Apps that sometime they don’t know what they are for.

It is useless and those Apps will eat your battery!

The second thing, you need to check on the setting of each App, does it has a synchronization service? If yes, set the interval according to your need or turn it off.

If you leave it synchronize data frequently, you phone will face the short of battery.

Install Easy Battery Saver

What I love about this App is that they provide options for us to choose according to our situation. When I use Samsung Galaxy S, I usually select Normal Mode, because I have few Apps only and I already set the synchronization according to my need.

I only need to switch to Super Power Saving only when I forget to charge my phone at night.

But since I switched to Samsung Galaxy S2 and upgraded to ICS, I noticed my phone was running our of battery so fast. I am now using the Intelligent Power Saving Mode. It saved me double life of my battery. If I don’t use it often, my phone can runs for two days without charging.

That make life easy!

What this App do is that they will not allow any service running on the background when your phone is on standby. They will allow automatically when you unlock the screen.

This is an entertaining and informative account of two travellers who have just one day to visit the Angkor Wat region in Cambodia. Deadlines mean the pair have just 24 hours for a return trip from Kuala Lumpur to Siem Reap and visit a range of temple sites in this UNESCO World Heritage region. It’s a successful combination of short story and travel guide, with glimpses of humour and genuine philosophical thought. There’s also plenty of informative historical information woven through the narrative. Having been to Angkor Wat, I would have found this very valuable to read before visiting, as it’s hard to get objective travel information in a concise and readable form. Even for a general reader (or armchair traveller), this short read (it takes half an hour to read) paints a realistic and sense-evoking picture of Angkor Wat. It also works as an entertaining short story, with the central characters emerging effectively from this book as they try to fit a worthwhile – but hectic – visit within their 24-hour deadline. I loved the simple but effective cover that caught my eye and prompted me to buy the book for just 99 cents. Money well spent!

After a long waiting time, we now could have something that works correctly to bring Khmer Unicode for any Android device.

It works correctly not only on browsers but inside the system including apps such as Facebook.

But we need to root the phone.

For those who doesn’t want to root the phone, you can view Khmer Unicode on browsers only. This is the guide I write few months ago: How to install Khmer Unicode on Android Phone (without rooting).

If you decide to root your phone, let’s start!

You can follow details instruction how to root Samsung Galaxy S2 via http://forum.xda-developers.com.

Go to setting/about phone to check the Kernel version of your phone.

You just check the 3 letters to verify the correct root Kernel for your phone. My phone is a I9100T series. I upgraded it to ICS 4.0.3 via Kies. My Kernel version is LP3.

1. So I downloaded the file CF-Root-SGS2_XW_O2U_LP3-v5.4-CWM5.zip via http://forum.xda-developers.com.

2. You will need Odin to root your phone. You can check this link to download Odin.

3. Go to setting, Developer options, check the USB debugging box. I am not sure this is the requirement because I didn’t see they mentioned in Xda Forum. In any case, there’s no harm to enable it. It worked fine for me.

4. Start Odin, Click on PDA button and locate the file CF-Root-SGS2_XW_O2U_LP3-v5.4-CWM5.tar from the upzip file that you have downloaded in step 1. Note: You don’t have to touch any other buttons. Make sure the Re-partition is unchecked.

5. Put your phone on download mode: Volume down + Power + Home. Connect USB cable to the phone. If you have problem to detect the phoen, you need to install Kies. Normally when you installed Kies, you will see an “Added” in the message box and the ID:COM will turn to yellow. You are good to go!

6. Just click on start button. When the root finish, the phone will restart itself. You can disconnect the USB cable. Check out if you have Two new icons in your application panel: CWM and SuperSU.

7. Download the Khmer Unicode Package via Cambodia Android Users Group. The package was developed by SH Maxx, a Cambodian in New Zealand. I have followed his works few months ago. I am sure one day he will be able to provide us something. He just upload and make it available today. I really appreciate the work and time he spent on this project. If you download it via computer, make sure you transfer the .zip file to SDCard of your phone.

8. Click on CWM icon, if you click it the first time you need to allow root to grant access to your phone. Click on Reboot into ClockWorkMod recovery.

9. Once you enter to CWM mode, use the volume up and down + home button to select the option to install zip file. Then locate and execute the zip file you have downloaded.

10. When the installation completed, you need to reboot the phone. Just check back until you see the menu reboot. After reboot, you can check your Facebook application or other Khmer Unicode websites. You should be happy with you phone because it now can display Khmer Unicode.

This is what I can read after the installation of the Khmer Package:

The developer of the package mentioned it should work on any mobile who is running on Android ICS 4.0+. If you have other model after trying this, please let us know the outcome. But just to mentioned again, we are not responsible to any damage that might happen.

Facebook remains not only in Cambodia but world wild as the top social media site. It’s crowed and it will continue to grow, even there are many social media sites have been created in the last few years.

For people who want to get their message pass across the planet, they need to do it on Facebook. No other site can compete with Facebook. It is clear.

But somehow, some people can still benefit from small network, connect with the right people outside of Facebook.

For example Path, a social media access via mobile only is popular amount number of people who reserve this network for friend and family only.

I just signed up today and I got nothing on my wall. It is normal because I don’t have any friend. It would be useful if my friends and family signed up. But I don’t think they will have time for another social network.

Facebook would be our good place to connect and share.

Recently the case study also shown that Tagged is the America’s most engaging social network, meaning that people spend more time on that site than Facebook.

In Cambodia, there are also two social media sites which I want to feature here: Angkor One and Cambodia Circles.

Angkor One

Angkor One founded by Steven Path and launched in June 2009.

I experiences myself by becoming a member few years ago. But unfortunately I don’t go often to the site. There are still many people access to the site. It ranked #123 top sites access from Cambodia via Alexa Statistic.

To my personal experiences when I logged into Angkor One, I don’t find anything interests to me. But the site itself provides a lot of information including News, Forums, Contest etc which I think it could give too many choices for people who look for just a social network.

Cambodia Circles

I just signed up to Cambodia Circles last weekend. I don’t have much experience yet but I think the founders have a specific objective for their targeted members.

I believe they setup this network to share experiences and help each other for success. You can do your own blog post, it will be appeared also on the homepage of the site as “What’s New”, this will engage other members to read your post.

The site has other features such as: Articles, Job Announcement, Marketplace and much more. I will keep updating about this new social network.

Conclusion

There are many other social media sites out there. It depends on your need, your friends and family. People might find their own favorite network.
