Your could have received an email from a friend's email and when you ask your friend about it he/she denies ever sending such an email.
This is my case where I have been receiving emails from some of my friends with some links but when I ask them what it's all about, no one comprehends what I am asking. This is true, with Emkei's faker email, you can use anybody's email to send emails to other people. The email reaches its intended destination within second and you are done. I just tried it, and my goodness, it's damn fast.
For you to use the service, there is no hectic procedures to configure. All that is required is to open the site and fill in the anonymous name and email and the text, then you click send and the email is sent to the recipient!

Do not blame your friends for some emails you receive from them!

The power of social media in Kenya

It true that social media has become a vital tool for coordinating many activities globally. Kenya has not been left out since internet penetration is rapidly growing though still low at about 4 million internet users which represent around 10% of the population.. For example, Facebook penetration is estimated to be 2.7% of the population and 79% of the internet users which is relatively low.
Facebook and twitter are the most used social media platforms in Kenya and have been used successfully to coordinate many activities.
Social media upsurge was really felt during the time for the Kenyans for Kenya Initiative where over 650,000,000 Shillings was collected to help the hunger stricken Kenyans. #Kenyans4kenya trend was used on twitter to mobilize for funds as well as on Facebook. Consequently, it was the same time we had Facebook fan pages like I hate Alfred Mutua after his reaction towards the effects of the drought in Northern Kenya. This fan page had over 20,000 fans in just two days.
The Kenyan doctors' strike has not been spared by this technology as evident in the Facebook group. They have used both Facebook and twitter to coordinate their activities successfully in what they call the Blue Revolution.
There are many people who argue that social media is not a catalyst for activism since activism require actual people dedicated to the course and also bearing in mind that its penetration is very low. However, by the time of the Egyptian revolution there were only 5.2 million Facebook users which is 7% of their population but played a crucial role in ousting president Hosni Mubarak. Besides, the embattled Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad tried to limit internet access in his country. This shows that social media is an inevitable way that can even topple governments. This has been more felt in the East where Arab activists, writers and journalists have faced repercussions for their online activity. Back in Kenya, National Cohesion and Integration Commission has warned social media users that it is scrutinizing the activity of many youths to curb spread of hate speech online.
Therefore, social media is a democratic way of strategizing, organizing, publicizing and even inciting!
Even the Al-Shabaab are on twitter?

It’s sad when you go to refill your gas cylinder and find the prices have doubled. Over some months ago a thousand shillings would buy several items from the supermarket but that’s history as of today. The cost of living has skyrocketed at a worrying rate and don’t know who will come to our rescue. Initially, we were told that it’s the position of the Kenyan shillings versus the Dollar ($1:105Ksh) but this has changed since it is at a stable position ($1:90Ksh). In addition, the cost of fuel was and is still high to run operations.

Striking Lecturers

This has also led to many industrial actions such as from teachers, university dons, university support staff and at the moment, the doctors. They are all complaining of the rising cost of living. To add insult to injury, the demolitions carried by the government over private properties in favor of government policies have not spared Kenyans who have invested their lifetime savings on the buildings. These are able Kenyans who were rendered to beggers under the current harsh economic times.

The worst is expected if a remedy is not sought quickly bearing in mind that our soldiers are in Somalia and being the beneficiary of the biggest cake in the national budget we have a reason to worry more.

Matatu operators have also threatened to join in the industrial action if the prices of fuel remain as they are. This is because government measure to curb the escalating fuel prices only made it worse and we hope that the Energy regulatory Commission will be disbanded accordingly for its failure to protect consumers.

Take Caution!

This morning I encountered with Nairobi Matatu Pickpockets on Route 145(Thika road). I was seating on the aisle seat and then the guy behind me drops two ten shillings coins and asks me to take them for him. As a good person, I bend down to take but the conductor (tout) also takes one ten bob while I take the other. I give it to the conductor but the man takes the money from the tout. This man still insists that there is another ten bob down and I start looking it for him. While looking, I hear something going on in my right pocket. I rose up quickly only to find the guy sitting next to me trying to remove my mobile phone from the pocket. This guy was neatly dressed and was using his coat to cover his activity. He quickly opens a news paper and start reading. I got too nervous until I couldn't speak. Quickly I realized this was a scheme because I have ever lost a phone in the same way and on the same route. When we reached the stage I was alighting, another man comes from behind and sandwich me between them and starts talking to me saying that he is sorry to squeeze me. I realize that he also has a newspaper on his coat's pocket. Immediately, that guy who was removing my phone also keeps his newspaper to his coat pocket. At this moment, I felt like screaming because I was carrying a laptop and thought that they had seen a good catch. I was very cautious and at the stage I came out slowly to ensure no one tries to take anything. I crossed the road very fast and felt at least safe.

Questions still bothering my mind:

Why did the tout return the cash to that man because to me, this was to be his fare?
Could the tout be involved in the racket?

I am yet to comprehend this!

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) Dilemma in Kenya

GMO corn studies reveal novel pesticide residues

Recently, there has been a big debate about the genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in Kenya caused by the cabinet consent to millers to import GMO maize for flour. Food lobby groups are worried that GMO developers exerted pressure to ensure the recently enacted Biosafety Act of 2009 serves their interests. Kenya is the fourth country in Africa to have GMO-ready Laws. Other countries include South Africa, Burkina Faso and Egypt. Hon Ababu Namwamba who chairs the Parliamentary committee that was formed to look into food cost says that the government has not made a solid decision on the matter.

GMO have their risks and benefits to offer. They can offer many solutions to our problems but we must acknowledge that biotechnology cannot solve all our problems. The potential risks of GMOs are diverse and can be highly hazardous. Patricia Kameri-Mbote, a University of Nairobi Professor acknowledge that introduction of new varieties will make communities to be dependent on external inputs for their agricultural activities. This is further confirmed by corn failure in South Africa in three corn varieties engineered by Monsanto. GMOs can also cause genetic pollution where non-GM plants (wild population) may be contaminated due to the aspect of cross pollination which is a threat to genetic diversity. This can also result to formation of super weed.

Advancement in technology is good but this poses a dilemma in to the future bearing in mind genetically modified plants can produce toxins that have impact on non-target wildlife since toxins are rarely species-specific.

I never thought conmen have got the guts to do this!

I received a phone call from a person by the name MWITI, who spoke in a typical Meru ascent. He claimed that he had sent his money to a wrong number by mistake, and the money was supposed to settle a hospital bill to a close relative. He pleaded with me to immediately send the cash I had received in my Mpesa account for the relative to be out of hospital. Since I was riding a bike, I told him to give me about 10 minutes for me to see the claimed Mpesa message. This is how the message read:

"BJ75YZ680 Confirmed. You have received Ksh1,730 from MWITI M’IBOI 0703501417 on 21/5/11 at 12:15 PM New M-pesa balance is Ksh1,730. Sender:Mpesa"

With this, I was somehow convinced the money had come, but wait, this can’t be my balance because I had some money in my account. Secondly, it lacked the name of the M-pesa Outlet it had been sent from. In my confusion, I stroll down and found this: "Sender: +254703501417."

I called the guy and told him that my wit was beyond his reach. He then tells me that he has already contacted Safaricom and the money has been refunded to him only that I had no received a message from Safaricom to that effect. At this point I could only laugh at him and insult him. Ooooh! My morals were gone, but for a reason.

Hope you won’t be the gullible one!

Arrest of Besigye

Ugandan opposition leader Col Kizza Besigye was arrested this morning at his house in Kisangati as he tried to go to his Party's head office in Najjanankumbi on foot. He was then detained in Kisangati police station. He was walking as a way to protest against escalating food and oil prices which is scheduled for every Monday and Thursday.
To arrest and detain Besigye and detain him is real show of the dictatorial leadership of President Museveni. Is the government supposed to force Besigye use a car to go to work? In an interview, president Museveni said, "...I call on the public to do is to use fuel sparingly, don't drive to bars." From this, you will be left wondering whether a car uses more fuel to the bar than to work. Again, Museveni asked whether the international oil prices will come down if Besigye demonstrated. Will it also bring the fuel prices down by holding him?
Tomorrow, Tuesday April 19, 2011 is a day set a side for Kenyans also to demonstrate over the same. The Consumer federation of Kenya (CofeK) has confirmed that the demonstration is still on. Lets wait and see whether this will also be termed as idiotic by the Kenyan authorities.

National Youth Council Elections

The election guidelines for the National Youth Council (NYC) were released by the Minister for Youth Affairs and all youth (aged 18yrs-35yrs) are requested to register with the District Youth Officers in their area to participate in the elections.
The elections will be scattered during the months of April and May for Sub-Locational level up to Provincial level. Election for the 16 representatives of the National Youth Congress will take place in June.
Representatives of the NYC from Sub-Locational to Provincial level will be mainly volunteers whereas the 16 members in the congress will be renumerated.

Government raises fuel prices

Kenyans are expected to dip deeper in to their pockets to buy oil since the prices are set to increase country wide from 15th February, 2011. This is ridiculous since National Oil was given a tender to purchase crude oil so that the prices could come down but they oil price has since been escalating. Alcohol bill at work!

Alcoholic Drink control Act 2010 is at work from today.
Hon Mututho is a happy man after making sure that this law comes to action.
Many are aware of Mejja's song, "Kwani jana kulienda aje, aje" ( what happened yesterday, this is after a night drinking). This might be something of the past even though this bill might not help much. Reason being that rules are made to be broken! Its also unfortunate that it has come when the festive season is near. However, one can also buy crates of bear and shift base from bars to homes and this might make children more vulnerable than before. Also, I think that there should be a difference between a bar and a restaurant. In case you are found with a child in a restaurant, it should not be treated in the same case as in the bar.

Police officers might also become more corrupt by accepting bribes or being used by competitors in a certain area to eliminate others. This is because a police officer can write to the chairperson of the district committee to cancel a license. From another perspective, different people react differently to alcohol in reference to isozymes of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH). Therefore, this bill has so many discrepancies that might make it unable to operate well or can we say it will go like the alcohol blow!

Kirinyaga central MP loses his seat

Kirinyaga central MP Ngata Kariuki is the recent loser of his parliamentary seat after high court nullified his election in 2007 citing malpractices. Justice Mohammed Warsame, the high court judge noted that the people of Kirinyaga central were denied their choice to represent them in parliament. During the hearing of the Kriegler Commision that probed the 2007 elections, the Returning Officer admitted announcing the loser as the winner. Daniel Karaba moved to court in 2008 to challenge the elections because he was the people's choice during 2007 elections.
Other former MPs that have gone home after successful petitions include Omingo Magara, Joel Onyancha, George Thuo, Dick Wathika and Abdirahman Hassan.

First date confusion

I just have to share this! A close friend comes to my table at night in a local club in my neighborhood and tells me that he is confused. " For what?" I ask. He tells me that he got confused during his first date. He asks a drink for me on his bill then continues. He tells me that he was meeting his newly found love but she came alongside another girl. Whats wrong with that? I am left wondering. He later tells me that the other girl was cuter than the one he was to treat that day. What made me laugh is when he told me that he only had Ksh 1000 in his pocket.

The funny thing is that he tells me that he forgot what was in his pocket because of the other girl and went on to incur the bill. By this time I was wondering the joint he was in that can surface a bill of three with what was in his pocket. His confusion was whether to move on with the first girl or to flirt the other and find solace in her. I had no remedy for him other than enjoy the story and the drink.

Is Joint Admissions Board (JAB) Relevant?

On Friday 20th August 2010 during the 2nd graduation ceremony at Mount Kenya University (MKU), the Pro chancellor professor George Eshiwani said that the Joint Admissions Board (JAB) is ‘tired’ and should inturn be replaced by a national university admissions board. In his remarks, he said that JAB creates second class citizens who are admitted in public universities and its high time the selection is harminized to include private universities as well as make education affordable to all. This would also eliminate reference of students as JAB, parallel and school based.

This might be a good idea but will also bring in its short comings; The fee structures will have to be harmonized and this will make it costly for ordinary Kenyans to access higher education.

Change might be good but JAB is the only saviour to students from poor backgrounds at the moment. However, starting a Kenya open learning university as was his idea that was also supported by minister for higher education William Ruto would be a good way to accommodate those who miss university admissions. Its funny that Prof Eshiwani is critisizing a board that he has a hand in making it.

High school toilet issue

A dual toilet

In high school, we shared bathrooms. I had an opportunity of attending two schools and it was the case. Bathrooms did not have doors and others were large for sharing but this picture above buffles me alot. How on earth can we have a dual toilet. Imagine knocking a washroom door and you here " come in, we can share"?

In the same schools, we had the above pots in the toilets and it was really humiliating especially when you want to post something or when driving (dhiarhoea). This made the students to do as below since this toilets were dirty as always and you are pressed. I think that this types of toilets should be banned from schools since they are unhealthy.

The farmers in Mwea rice irrigation scheme have real problems:

1. Bad roads to transport farm produce from the rice fields.

2. Rice blast disease that cuts the yields by a half thus the farmers end up making loses.

3. High cost of labour

Rice farming is a total loss adventure for farmers in Mwea since the Kenya cereal board is not buying their produce since the crop was affected by the Blast disease. Therefore, farmers results to selling the rice at a loss since they have no alternative market. It is not healthy for the farmer to incur all the production costs and end up selling unprocessed rice at ksh 30-40 ($0.4-0.53) per kg.The government through cereal board should have come to their rescue but its no where to be seen. Secondly, the farmers do not understand where to show their dissatisfaction to;

Kant’s thoughts were full of insight, perception, and open-mindedness. His contribution to philosophy and intellectual development lasted for over thirty five years. He wrote on almost all philosophical topics but his love was more to the field of metaphysics. His career can be divided into four phases; from 1746-1759 the time referred as “the period of infatuation” where he provided the foundation of metaphysics. He developed rationalist epistemology that justified the first causes of nature through the possibility of the knowledge of God.1760-1766 the “period of disillusionment” where he disregarded his earlier epistemology. He rejected the possibility of metaphysics going beyond the limits of experience. In 1767-1771 “period of partial reconciliation” where he went back to metaphysics in the belief that he could provide a solid foundation of it. In 1772-1780 the “period of divorce” where he realized that his renewed confidence could not solve one fundamental problem. He asked “How are synthetic a priori principles valid experiences if they are not derived from it?” He spent this time reflecting and studying and in 1781 he published the Critique of Pure Reason. He published many other essays and lecturers until his death in the early 1804.

From his easy on education, he says that man is the only being that requires education. Animals use their power through a regular plan that might be not harmful to themselves. He also touches on discipline saying that discipline changes an animal nature to human nature. With no instincts he had to workout a plan to conduct himself and since he cannot do this all at once because he comes to the world undeveloped, others have to do it for him. This discipline is the one that prevents a man from going back to his animal impulses. Through discipline men are subjected to the law of mankind and this must be accomplished early in life. For example, children are first sent to school not mainly for them to get something but so that they may become used to sitting and do exactly as they are told. If discipline is not instilled in the early stage then it would be difficult to change the character later in life.

Kant dismissed David Hume’s (1711-1776) idea that man’s mind is only a collection of perceptions. These perceptions are either impressions or ideas. Kant referred this as “dogmatic dreams”. Hume took away the grounds of certitude of which a man might have is a thin probability where Kant said this was not usable knowledge at all. He said that a man needs a truly scientific knowledge which is universally and necessarily true and reliable. Kant proposed another element of knowledge, a priori and subjective which is anterior to sense experience and not dependent on experience. Knowledge that we obtain through experience is a posteriori which comes after experience and it depends on experience. It is from Aristotelian, Thomistic, Scholastic, and Contextual Realistic doctrine that all human knowledge is of this type; meaning that no knowledge is born in us except the one that has been acquired. However, Kant insisted on existence of other items of knowledge such as space and time, certain regulative judgments, and certain master ideas as inborn and a priori. There is legitimate use of the terms a priori (from beforehand) and a posteriori (from afterwards) but there is no legitimate use of a priori as a term describing knowledge itself. Here Kant uses the term to describe knowledge where it’s an element of its being and not an element of its equipment. In his book, The Critique of Pure Reason, he tried to answer the question “What can I know with scientific certitude?” He gives man three power of knowing: sensibility, intellect, and reason. On the other hand, knowable thing are of two types: appearances of things or phenomena, and essences of things or noumena. Man through his senses takes in the phenomena of the world around him which is a determination of space and time. But this phenomenon by space and time is a man’s own contribution to the knowledge. They are the inborn a priori element of the sensing power. The result is called the empirical intuition. The finished product of sensation stimulates the next knowing power, intellect. Intellect takes in the empirical intuition and conform them in to its shape. This results to judgment. Just as the final product of sensibility gets the intellect to the act of judgment, the judgment of the intellect gets the reason to its action. In reason there are three ideas; the self, non self, and super self. This results to reasoned knowledge. From this the essential things about knowledge lies between judgments. There are two types of judgments, a priori and a posteriori. When this is looked from another perspective we have two other types: synthetic and analytic. From Kant, all judgments are a priori and admits that there is no other type. He maintains that a priori judgment that is analytic marks no advance in knowledge. To build up science, there must be growth, development, and advancement so there must be synthetic judgments which are also a priori. This synthetic a priori judgment is a contradiction since it is impossible. From our understanding, examples given by Kant are either a posteriori judgment or analytic judgments. He says that the judgment “five plus seven equals twelve” is a synthetic a priori judgment. This is incorrect since it’s an analytical judgment because even if we replace the words or figures for five, seven, and twelve by an equivalent number of dots or strokes, on either side of the equal marks you will have the same thing.

Kant concludes that noumena or the essence of things cannot be known by mortal man. The phenomenon is not actually knowable but it stimulates the sense to act. This is contradicting because originally he is the same person who took Hume’s argument as “Dogmatic dreams”. Its also contradicting how nuomena, the science of metaphysics becomes illusion and impossible since it is understood by Greeks, Scholastic as the heart of philosophy. It is temporally maturity of judgment which refuses to be satisfied with illusory knowledge of pseudo science; therefore it should serve as a stimulus to undertake a critical investigation of metaphysics (Copleston, 212). He explains to us the whole nature of human mind and later concludes that we cannot know the nature of anything. Then if nothing that can be known with certitude then there is no truth that man is made for a purpose or even that man exists. Kant said that pure reason was not enough and man must also embrace practical reason. From his second book, The Critique of Practical Reason, he answered the question, “Are there certitudes, outside the reach of pure reason that I must recognize and act upon?” He answers “There are.” A man is aware of what is good and bad, so there is an inner command. Kant calls this categorical imperative. This is what we would call conscience or simply the voice of reason. Awareness of the right and wrong for a man is certitude because of the categorical imperative. Then, this categorical imperative comes from a supreme being who must be God. Therefore, God exists. Again, a man perfects himself through categorical imperative. Therefore he concludes that, a man can go on becoming more and more perfect forever. This categorical imperative satisfies Kant Lutheranism although his philosophy does not recognize this.

Kant’s philosophy has been the root of what would be regarded as the characteristic of “the German philosophy.” It does not face reality and brings the idea of being very perfect where rulers like Nietzsche and Hitler viewed themselves as supermen. Kant stands self condemned for using logical reasoning to get the fact that logical reasoning is useless. Kant’s philosophy is therefore contradicting and has highly influenced the intellectual insanity that is experienced today.

Clergy against the draft constitution

As much as the church is opposing the harmonized draft constitution, I heard something from a reverend that bothered me over the issue. He is a man who went to a theological college and given the mandate to lead the flock in a parish but his utterances made me think otherwise about the church. He was very comfortable on the pulpit telling the flock that the reason they are denying the Kadhi’s courts in the constitution is that their judges will be paid using Kenyan taxpayer’s money and at this moment I doubted my Christianity.

Are Muslims not Kenyans? Are they exempted from tax? Style up men, aaaaih! I didn’t expect this to come from someone I have entrusted to show me the way.

Nairobi travel Hustle

Hope you have never been in this fix! Yes, I use public means to travel but of late I have noticed this is too much. I was seated on the back seat of a bus, on my left was a fat man who occupied his and half of mine and on the right was a lady. This lady thought I was the one occupying her seat and she kept on pushing me on the side and looking me in a manner to suggest that I should leave that seat. I was very uncomfortable despite paying for that seat. In many times, I find myself on this where I seat on half of the seat but it’s bad when you sit on the window side and a fat person sits next to you.

You just have to persevere until you alight but yesterday I was in a Nissan matatu in one of the suburbs of Nairobi when hell broke lose. We reached at a bump and the matatu stuck on the bump, we were excess as usual but this was not the main reason. There was an extra large sized woman inside and another man almost her size. This man made a joke saying that the vehicle was old and should carry six people instead of twelve, he also added that the matatu should be fixed with mini bus tires instead of its, we laughed yes but I think he made this joke for us not to notice his size. By coincidence these two people alighted on the same stage and this is when I notice that they were the ones overworking the vehicle.

Yeah, I might be challenged in size but I have no problem with these people other than I feel uncomfortable for being a victim of circumstances severally. I think special buses should be designed for this category or should I say as we are used in saying; the government should……………..*

Fake Kenyan way

False unity has been the root cause of the confusion that has been experienced in Kenya so far. One party takes one course while the other opposes it and comes up with their demands. In the draft constitution, there is misunderstanding on contentious issues where the ODM and PNU affiliates differ in opinion. These parties never had heart level connections as they pose to be but are joined on the basis of MOU, self-aggrandizement and pride.

Their acts can be compared to building a house with bricks. To join the bricks, you require a binding agent such as tar or mortar, water and cement. When the binding agents are subjected to hostile weather conditions such rain and sunshine, they become weak and may lead to collapse of the building. Kofi Annan being part of the binding agent, he has been in and out of the country severally. When hostile conditions hit, such as corruption and sacking always weaken the bonds and pose as a great threat to test their unity.

PNU and ODM are not the only culprits of this, trade treaties and political unions such as European Union also suffer from the same. Why is it that some countries have Veto powers that can overturn a decision of the larger block in a union? This shows that many relationships are based on fake agreements.

The concept of life relates to existence and consciousness, and these two touches on other related issues such as life stance, purpose, conceptions of God, the soul and the afterlife.

In life one has to appreciate that life is fleeting and it waits for no one. Life is temporary since one is on earth for a short period of time and one has to enjoy all the pleasures and the treasures on earth. You will soon fade away and disintegrate with time, just as one time you were a kid and today you are masculine or strong. You should do what you love most and enjoy today as if there is no tomorrow because you don’t know whether that thing will be there tomorrow or perhaps you will not have the energy to do it.

You should not fight your true nature, this how you are. Even if you try to hide it, people can see right through you and see what you really are. So, learn to be happy with yourself and acknowledge both your unique strengths and weaknesses. You should be proud of whom you are and every one should deal with you as you are. Don’t try to be a copy of another of which you can’t be that in life. Most important is to appreciate who you are.

Understand that it’s good to be different in you own way. People try to conform to other so that they are the same. It’s not good to be the same as everyone. If your dad is a lawyer you should not go to school anticipating being a lawyer too. You should not be afraid to be different when you have the opportunity to and feel the desire. Always have passion to do something. Passion is the greatest reserve you have in life.

Try to keep on the sunny side of life. In life when others are enjoying every point of life there other who are always complaining about it. Happiness is a choice one has to make in every situation even though you can’t be happy at all times. So when there are moments when you can have pleasure and feel happiness you should try to be. For example, you would like to see your business’s profits skyrocketing rather than to sit there and at all times count the losses the business has incurred.

Make time for adventure in your life. It’s very important to take risks in life. If you never get time to try out new things or have enough fun then you have been missing out thrilling adventures life offers to you. If a top model invites you over you must say yes no matter what. Anybody who drive Ferrari had the guts to try it no matter how it looks risky, so don’t expect people to say you were a carpenter when you die while you were an idler.

Accept that life is not always a picnic. The origin of most of our dissatisfaction in life is because of our unrealistic expectations in life. If you thought that you are going to be rich by either sleeping late or wearing certain attire then you might be disappointed in life. If you don’t expect life to be a smooth sail then you won’t be unhappy when its not. You will be bitter yes, but not as when you new this fact. You have to face the reality that you will face furrows and mountains which will derail you in a way or another. So when your car gets in a ditch don’t cancel your journey, there are other means of getting where you are going.

Embrace the idea of changing your life if you don’t like it. If your life is full of complains find ways to entertain yourself and to laugh at life. If this fails to work for you and still don’t like your life, then change the idea and embrace another one. Perhaps a different idea might work for you. If you use a perfume that irritates you change it but you don’t continue using it because you have been using it since you were young. Change is like rest. You don’t have to be a conservative.

Try to always prepare your self for the obvious. Some things in life look so obvious that we often forget about them, like you will have to sleep dead at one point of your life or will have to care of your children when you grow up, pay their school fee, medical bill and so on. It will be productive to invest your energy that you spend avoiding unpleasant things to prepare for them. If you accept that bad things strike in life and just start facing their inevitability then you will find a clever way to take advantage of things that are going to happen in your life. For example as Amused and Bemused, says that if you buy a coffin window seat, then you can use it throughout your life to take off shoes. At the same time, you will have a handy place to store a dead body if you ever kill anyone. With all this you will be thinking ahead. Think of all the ways your life would be better if you planned ahead.

If you do something, do it with style. In life you will do things that you don’t like at all. If there is something that you have to do in life and there is no way of avoiding it then you must find ways of doing it with style to suit your preference and taste. Like your manager in the company you work for might choose you to give a speech in the company’s anniversary. You don’t have to be afraid but just device a good way of presenting yourself. Also in life you must face people who you can’t cope with and you must pass through them to achieve something or you have to work together. In Robert Bramson’s book, coping with difficult people, he explains how best you can handle them.

Lastly, life is simple, so just keep it that way. It is very easy to get distracted from what is important in life. Don’t rush to please the society by getting in to their trap. There is a lot of expectations from your society, like; a big house, a good wife, nice car, good job, thinking that this will make you happier in life. You have to find things in life that will work for you rather than listening to what people tell you to do because they are only distracting you from what you like to do. Perhaps you like fish while they recommend mutton. If you want to be at the top of Maslow’s pyramid then you have to do what you love most.

A review of student leadership

Leadership is the process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task (source). Basically, there are two types of leadership styles; formal for elected or appointed people and informal for people who meet the resource need of others such as in the case of strikes.

Student leadership in Kenyan Universities and colleges has been characterized by hypocrisy where many students vie for posts in the student unions with a promise for change but finally end up being married to the systems and thus they never deliver. They support policies that continue to oppress the student fraternity rather than safeguarding students’ interests. How then can you identify a promising person? I came across several questions that are worth sharing.

If you want that post;

 Do you have practical ideas?

 Do you say something that can be actualized or you mentioned it because your competitor is using it?

 Can you sustain being criticized and being discouraged? You must have a mental toughness.

 Have you ever held leadership position previously?

 Can people listen when you speak?

 Are you able to take responsibility if anything goes wrong?

 Are you afraid of being challenged?

 Do you embrace team work?

 When you criticize do you give a way forward?

Finally, if you are locked in the status quo, then stop cheating that you will bring change and support someone with a liberal mind.
