Kickstarter: Crystal Wash A Case of Unjust Enrichment?

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Fri, 17 Jul 2015 08:06:00 +0000

Another Kickstarter Staff Pick scam?

Successfully funded on 03/13/2015, Crystal Wash paid a commission of $13,418.40 to Kickstarter.

In his response to Joanie Lemercier who called out on the deceptive marketing and misinformation on the Holus project, Kickstarter CEO, Yancey Strickland continues with his same rhetoric:

"Ultimately, it’s backers who decide what gets funding, not us"

Kickstarter places the onus on backers to vet projects; Kickstarter has a responsibility to act in good faith, ensuring they keep their end of the bargain.

What happens when Kickstarter fails to keep up their basic responsibilities?

Crowdfunding Fraudsters: smARtMAKER, Dimitri Albino and Harold Timmis

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 04 Mar 2015 11:26:00 +0000

Over 2 years after smARtMAKER's dramatic entrance into the open source hardware community via the trademark infringement issue with Arduino founder Massimo Banzi - Makers are still screaming "Where ?!#@#%#^^ are my kits?!!!"

Answer: Rebranded and being sold in Albino's family eBay shop - Over 2500 kits already!

After successfully funding his 1st Kickstarter scampaign, Dimitri Albino made his way over to Indiegogo where with the assistance of Harold Timmis, 16000+ Backers - Students, teachers, nonprofits and makers were targeted by smARtMAKER.

An Indiegogo Trusted partner, 8 total direct campaigns there are additional campaigns executed under other company names and not included in this total) across 2 platforms - Never delivered.

Harold Timmis has proved to be as inept as previously thought and actively stringing backers along by the nose while Indiegogo does nothing.

While backers scream and vent in the comments section, and trolls misdirect the equivalent of screaming into your pillow - no one hears you; few if any have taken action.

Time to cut bait and take action - but getting backers moving in the same direction is about as effective as trying to herd cats... You could let Dimitri keep raping OSH or you can take 5 minutes to file with the FTC.

I verified with the FTC, they do not care what platform the purchase took place on, just that it happened on the internet. Here are the rules

FTC - SELLING ON THE INTERNET

Prompt Delivery Rules - "By law, you must have a reasonable basis for stating that a product can be shipped within a certain time. If your advertising doesn't clearly and prominently state the shipment period, you must have a reasonable basis for believing that you can ship within 30 days.

If you can't ship within the promised time (or within 30 days if you made no promise), you must notify the customer of the delay, provide a revised shipment date and explain his right to cancel and get a full and prompt refund.

For definite delays of up to 30 days, you may treat the customer's silence as agreeing to the delay.

But for longer or indefinite delays - and second and subsequent delays - you must get the customer's written, electronic or verbal consent to the delay.

If the customer doesn't give you his okay, you must promptly refund all the money the customer paid you without being asked by the customer.

The FTC works for the consumer to prevent fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot, stop, and avoid them. To file a complaint or to get free information on consumer issues, visit ftc.gov or call toll-free, 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261.

The FTC enters consumer complaints into the Consumer Sentinel Network, a secure online database and investigative tool used by hundreds of civil and criminal law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and abroad.

Ryan Grepper's Cooler in Shark Infested Waters

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Fri, 06 Feb 2015 13:10:00 +0000

For all the media attention Ryan Grepper is paying for, he may want to step back and do some research on a great IP defense attorney.

While his deceptive marketing and media manipulation tactics helped the Coolest Cooler set a Kickstarter record for raising $13 million, his 15 minutes of fame may be ending sooner than he thinks.

THE FIRST AND ONLY COOLER WITH BUILT IN LED LIGHTING Source:LiddUp.Com

Taylor Gwiazdon and Jayson Sandberg dove into the Shark Tank which aired April 4th, 2013. No sales, no bullshit, just a prototype.

On August 20. 2013 LiddUp, Inc. was granted patent US8511846 B1 for a Cooler with LED lighting. Unfortunately for "inventor" Ryan Grepper, among the many things he has failed to do is his market research.

Hubris must have have led the newest #crowdfunding huckster to this comment on his Inventor's Blueprint blog on November 27, 2013.:

"For example, the flashlight built into the lid of the Coolest was my idea, but someone else had and patented that same idea years ago. Luckily for me the patent is expired and now I’m free to add that element into my design." - Ryan Grepper 11/27/2013

If Ryan Grepper had bothered to do a quick search, he would have seen the patent was not expired and there was a good possibility of his ending up shark bait - but he didn't.

In a press release issued by Igloo Products Corp., back November 2014,

"LiddUp’s patents, for its unique LED lighting technology, helped to finalize the partnership. The innovative design utilizes LEDs as the light source to illuminate the inner contents of a cooler."

It is interesting to note that both LiddUp and Igloo shine a spotlight on the patented lighting system for their cooler, a subtle warning shot for the Coolest Cooler?

While Ryan Grepper is milking every last cent out of the sheep walkers on Kickstarter, for a product he didn't invent, design or prototype. His grade school bullies police the comments section, battering anyone who questions his claims or timeline while he finds another pointless "upgrade" i.e. stall tactic - The LiddUp guys have done the work.

The LiddUp guys built the infrastructure first - before selling a single item, their partnership with Igloo means more jobs for domestic workers and more control over the manufacturing process.

Grepper is set for implosion with his laser focus on marketing and producing the cheapest Made In China product possible. All the bullshit double talk and party pictures are meaningless... a slippery slope to travel and a fast, hard face plant at the end.

Considering @IglooProducts has remained the #1 brand in coolers for over 60 years, setting the standard for quality and durability it is an educated guess says they aren't going to let this one slide.

"The LiddUp’s secret weapon is a LED (light emitting diode) lighting system that provides interior lighting to a cooler, even when it is fully loaded, in the absence of ambient light. By utilizing this patented technology to illuminate the cooler’s contents, we’ve successfully enhanced both accessibility and visibility to provide a vastly improved version of this common product found in millions of households around the world. You wouldn’t buy a refrigerator without lights, would you? So why purchase another cooler without a built-in lighting system?" Source: http://liddup.com/features.html

If Igloo does decide to take action, it won't be the first time Ryan Grepper has been on the wrong side of a patent infringement issue.

E-Famtrips, Inc. v. Grepper et al was filed September 17, 2009, this complaint against Ryan Grepper d/b/a Travelite for patent infringment of a "Portable Handheld Electronics Scale".

The complaint was closed in scheduling on 01/26/2010, and while the details of the settlement are unknown, E-Famtrips, Inc. still held the patent in February of 2012 when Grepper filmed his Inventor's Blueprint video "Power to the Prototype" where he continues to claim he invented the product... except he didn't.

Like many other assertions by Grepper, this is a provable lie... and one of the many reasons you will never get your Coolest.

Coolest Kickstarter Issues Backer Refunds!

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Mon, 15 Dec 2014 21:53:00 +0000

In an unprecedented show of holiday goodwill, Ryan Grepper creator of the Coolest Cooler project is issuing refunds to backers of the top funded Kickstarter project!

Photo Credit: Ryan Grepper / Coolest Cooler

In response to a growing negative response to the December 12th announcement that Coolest Coolers would not begin shipping until July 2015 which would force backers living in snow zones to lose a full season use - Ryan Grepper has begun issuing refunds to backers!

In what will surely be one of the greatest displays of magnanimous creator behaviour, the marketing genius behind Inventor's Blueprint has turned Kickstarter upside down demonstrating media manipulation and viral marketing are not always a bad thing!

Much to my surprise, a refund was issued to me on 12/12/2014, the same day as the announcement was made! Have you received yours yet?

Of course, I don't believe there is anything magnanimous about Ryan Grepper's actions.

I do believe that he refunded only backers who have questioned the veracity of his project in a calculated effort to manipulate perception.

The next question is if he will continue to selectively refund anyone who dares question this project?

Free Money, Coolest Crowdfunding and Phil Gardner

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 03 Dec 2014 23:44:00 +0000

One of my favourite quotes from Ryan Holiday's book, Trust Me, I'm Lying: Confessions of a Media Manipulator is by Nicolas Chamfort, a French writer, who believed that popular opinion was the absolute worst kind of opinion.

"One can be certain," he said, "that every generally held idea, every received notion, will be idiocy because it has been able to appeal to the majority."

When it comes to record-shattering crowdfunded campaigns such as the Coolest Kickstarter which pulled in over $13 million in 30 days you can't help but compare it to the images of frenzied buying most common to trading room floors.

Research experts have determined that these super viral projects have little to do with the actual product and everything to do with media manipulation and the bandwagon effect.

Deceptive tactics and astroturfing reign supreme on social platforms with studies by big data giants like Google indicating approximately 30% of online comments and reviews are fake.

While Kickstarter advises backers that it is up to them to research projects before they fund them, the excitement of the moment can get to all of us.

More often than not, backers caught up in the frenzy of the stampeding herd are left disillusioned months and sometimes years later while the projects they believed in and supported fail to deliver and project creators disappear like a thief in the night - this is not what Kickstarter is about.

As Kickstarter is unquestionably the biggest name in rewards based crowdfunding its growth has brought along with it some unintended consequences. What began as a platform for creative types to fund projects that would have previously been unattainable is quickly becoming a quick and easy way to fleece larger and larger groups of unsuspecting individuals.

Websites like Fiverr.com make it as easy as a couple of mouse clicks for a project creator to purchase backers; a price tag of $5 gets you a $2 pledge and a generic comment for your project - want more? No problem! Pretty much anything can be added on for a few dollars more.

What if you were to give someone almost $1000? What kind of support does that buy you?

Screen shot taken from Ryan Grepper's blog

Ask Ryan Grepper, he knows - his good friend and get rich quick scheme guru Brenden Burchard, paved the way by inducing his followers with the promise of an almost $1000 bonus for anyone willing to support the Coolest.

Another friend and supporter of Grepper is Mark Reyland, the disgraced former Executive Director of the United Inventor's Association of America (UIA). The internet has many dubious accounts of Reyland's exploits; most disturbing is his attempt to steal a member of the UIA's rights as an inventor by manipulating her patent application.

Only 3 months old the with over 5300 comments, enough to overload anyone - there are a few guys whose trolling has piqued my interest with their fanatical defense of Ryan Grepper.

On 11/05/2014 in response to some questions I posed in the comments section, Phil Gardner of Calgary, Alberta Canada extended an invitation:

"I'm posting using my real name, i'm from calgary Alberta canada, and you can feel free to look me up on facebook. My current photo on there is my name on the back of a Yankees T shirt"

So I did. Just 2 wks after his public invitation Phil forgot to check his sensitive feelings at the door and cried foul.

"do you think fellow backers should be researching each other online and attempting to post personal information online about each other?"

What is really interesting about Phil Gardner is his 160+ comments on the sole project he has backed (the Coolest), as the rhetoric in those comments consistently attack anyone who dares express doubt or concern, even when those concerns are rational and fact-based.

Phil Gardner of Freedom 55 Financial

Based on Phil Gardner of Calgary, Alberta Canada's FaceBook he is a Financial Advisor at Freedom 55 Financial (a division of London Life Insurance Company) - According to their recruiting video financial planners with Freedom 55 play an important role in helping clients make decisions that could mean the difference between financial crisis or stability.

So in theory, Phil Gardner should be pretty good at looking at objective facts and making smart decisions - or not.

Cyber shills and comment trolls are a dime a dozen, but Phil is a special breed - A guy who makes his living advising people on critical financial issues can't possibly be this big of a moron.

Certainly Freedom 55 gave him some sort of training on ethics and responsibility - they must have. It doesn't seem like it quite stuck. When presented with objective facts regarding Ryan Grepper's history of patent infringment lawsuits and knowledge from experienced crowd funding advocates, @_PhilGardner continues to spread his gospel of misinformation.

Grepper's blatant disregard for ethical conduct is evidenced in his 02/11/2012 video where he demonstrates his $24.99 luggage scale "invention" - The same product which resulted in him being slapped with a patent infringement lawsuit in 2009. It wasn't his invention any more than the other 21k+ luggage scales any marketer can have custom packaged direct from China are.

Questionable intent lies in the video interview where he specifically stated his views of crowd funding as "a pledge drive for your idea."

"you're leveraging a network of strangers to fund your project. They're not giving you a loan; they're not taking equity in your company; they're not investing. It's basically money that never has to be paid back."

"the beautiful part about crowd funding is the money you get from these strangers, never has to be paid back."

None of the comments made in that video lend themselves to establishing his intent to deliver. If he views the funds collected here as "free money" as he details on video, there is no need for him to pay it back i.e. deliver to his KickStarter backers.

What does Phil have to say? Just more misdirects, lies and crying about his feelings being hurt because he was called a shill - except he wasn't, until now.

So is Freedom 55 Financial Planner Phil Gardner a paid cyber shill or just an idiot? That I don't have an answer for - either way you cut it, only a fool would let this clueless moron handle their money.

BE Maker: smARtMAKER's Harold F. Timmis and Dimitri Albino

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Tue, 23 Sep 2014 08:47:00 +0000

Crowdfunding Grifters: Dimitri Albino and Harold F. Timmis

Almost 2 years after #smARtMAKER failed to deliver to the first group of backers on Kickstarter; why are so many of the 15,000+ backer's of Indiegogo's trusted partner and fiscal agent, smARtMAKER still in shock that they have been scammed?

Reading the comments on the BE Maker page over the past few months have left me shaking my head in disbelief as the Indiegogo fraud duo targeted students, teachers and non-profits.

Recently a couple of backers posted on the BE Maker comments section about the #smARtMAKER store on AliExpress; what is interesting is no one has mentioned on the fact that the BE Maker kits that they paid for are being sold on the Chinese site for the low low price of $32.99 complete with the Arduino Basic Connections book. - About half as much as the $69 price tag was on Indiegogo.

This wasn't really surprising as Albino and Timmis pulled the same stunt on the Kickstarter backers selling the kits on the now defunct smARtMAKER.com site while failing to deliver on the 982 orders from 11/23/2012.

While Harold "Freddy" Timmis pumps as many excuses as possible into his "updates"; placing blame on everything from having a cold to having a baby; the fact still remains that "the new head of technology" for Dimitri Albino's smARtMAKER is far from the genius he was marketed as back in January of 2013.

It's funny (in a tragic sort of way) that so many backers posting in the Indiegogo comment section for the various smARtMAKER projects are so oblivious to the fact that the "China" Harold has been blaming is the same company that he is Head of Technology of.

Is Harold really looking to his mentor Albino for support now that the Florida Attorney General is knocking? If Dimitri's comments on Kickstarter are any indication, Harold "Freddy" Timmis may be out of luck.

"Harold has the full right to do anything he want during the 128 hours a week that he live out of my payroll. He can go to f*** himself, he can do drugs or he can be a volunteer teacher at the library, write books and run nonprofit (or even profit if not in competition with his job) crowdfunding campaigns. NO ONE, including you Mr. I know everything and anybody else is a dumb monkey, can say what he does is right or not.

This said, how many minutes do you think a person with knowledge and experience can take to download a design from open source repository, make some changes to improve it, and get it ready for manufacturing? Minutes for most of us. And minutes are necessary to send an order to a factory that can deal with the assembling, testing and packing. This is why he can be able to ship HIS project in few weeks and not many months."

This long con has been sad to watch; it also taught me a lot of things about crowd funding and deceptive marketing I never had cause to think about.

It is remarkably easy for dirty marketers to insinuate themselves into crowdfunding and open source forums. In an environment predicated on trust and willingness to help, it is a simple task to deceive the honest backers into doing nothing until it is too late - just use a few shills posing as "backers" to derail any efforts and keep everyone chasing their tails.

This scam was called well over a year ago...

Coolest Kickstarter - First thoughts

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Mon, 25 Aug 2014 23:48:00 +0000

As a crowdfunding advocate, I am torn between what appears to be incredibly skillful marketing plan by a guy who seems pretty insightful in the pitfalls of supply chain management and recent experience with 2 savvy marketers who executed crowd funding campaigns with great marketing but misappropriated funds leaving thousands of backers flapping in the wind.

After reading through the comments and looking through the various websites of Ryan Grepper, creator of the Coolest Cooler project on Kickstarter the past couple of days, there is no question Ryan is a talented marketer and savvy businessman.

InventorsBluePrint.com is chock full of information and gives a lot of insight into Ryan's perspective which I think many could benefit from.

While each individual pledge is only around $200, the cumulative total is over $10 million - as Kickstarter has made clear, it is up to the backers to vet the project creator. It seems odd that so many people are engaging in personal attacks this early in the game - regrettably, this behaviour serves no purpose as the only person qualified to answer is the project creator.

The reality is that should Ryan not deliver in 6 months, which is probable given the fact that the majority of crowd funding projects deliver late there is little recourse aside from regulatory intervention. Now is the time to ask questions.

All that being said, there is no history I have been able to locate that offers concrete evidence of his ability to perform; however, if Ryan's writing and insights from his blog are any indication, he seems to be clever enough that he may well be the first creator on a project this scale to deliver on time.

I originally posted the 3 questions below directly @Ryan Grepper who chose not to answer; he did however post a new update about a speaker upgrade and some battery changes.

Based on experience this sends a huge red flag. When a project creator only focuses on the marketing and superficial buzz creation the message it sends is "Give me your money" - Something almost 50,000 are gladly doing.

Here's the thing, has anyone stopped to as

What do you mean by "secured $100,000 in high-end 3D printers"; i.e. rented, purchased, etc? If this is new equipment, will the learning curve impact your 6-month timeframe to market?
Given the size of the parts you are looking to create and the process used for injection molding and casting, wouldn't those funds be better allocated to CNC as that is the process that will be used to create the final molds? 3D printing seems like an inefficient means to an end in this case.
You are pretty forthcoming about your successes and challenges on your blog, you also write about the pros/cons of patents. You were sued a few years ago for patent infringement - I am not looking for details, I have read through the case. I am interested in your learnings and how you avoid such issues going forward as those are the behaviours which will impact this project.

I love crowd funding and the promise it holds for small business; I am also very cognizant of the fact that when handing over $10 million to someone it is a good idea to know who that someone is.

A novel idea that would allow this project to come to market given its goal of $50,000 and protect backers would be if the 48,000 backers all dropped their pledges to $5. This would give Ryan 4x what he projected the cost to market would be and no one gets the short end of the stick... it's a win-win.

Would you give this guy $10 Million?

"I can't abide any further Smartmaker related drama so I asked for, and received within a couple of hours, a full refund from Harold's current IGG campaign "BE Maker" -11/26/2013

Here's a funny thing about backer comments on crowd-funded projects - There are blowhards who will take every opportunity to distract and confuse the masses with baseless accusations and opinions.

People like this are either shills or idiots; either way you'd be a fool to listen to them without knowing their background.

Let's look at a guy who goes by the user names FishAndChimps / Tom.me / Tom McDonnell on Kickstarter and Indiegogo.

Tom McDonnell received a full refund from the BE MAKER! campaign last Thanksgiving; knowing full well that smARtMAKER completely dismissed the original 982 backers on Kickstarter and failed to deliver.

So why would he spend so much time aggressively discouraging backers with money on the line to "wait and see" when he already got his money back in November? He isn't on the hook for anything, but I bet you are.

Now that smARtMAKER has run for cover, FishAndChimps / Tom.me / Tom McDonnell deletes over half of his misinformation and misdirects from Indiegogo... For the sake of what?

Back in May when I posted that I had received an unverified email that the smARtMAKER Lab Orlando would be closing its doors he ranted and raved about how I had no clue what I was talking about - except, I was right.

In fact, I actually got the information from a guy who was swindled for a year's worth of membership fees to that space.

In June when I pointed out some inconsistencies about a #smARtMAKER MeetUp group he makes a feeble attempt to discredit me and comments:

"I signed up for this 'Meet Up' group last month while trying to find out about the goings on at Smartmaker from any one of the other 63 members."

I had already pulled down the list of members and there was no one matching his name or location (Tom McDonnell is from New Jersey per his Kickstarter comments).

So here's the question - Why would a guy from NJ join a Meetup in Orlando and lie about his name and where he lives? There are only 62 members of the Orlando Meetup; one guy is in Brazil and one in CA... none in NJ.

You might want to take a look at his comments on Kickstarter and ponder all his ridiculous rants, misdirections, angry words and pointless comments while you try to find a single fact buried in there.

The fact is he backed several smARtMAKER projects while talking out of both sides of his mouth and playing everyone for chumps... kinda like Harold and Dimitri.

Dimitri Albino, Harold Timmis, Deceptive Marketing and the Crowdfunding swindle

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Tue, 17 Jun 2014 14:50:00 +0000

"The video is out. The shipments are not sent yet. SmartMaker facebook page disappears. Harold only updates with stupid excuses… What kind of campaign is this?"

A few hours ago, a disillusioned backer from Spain expresses his frustration with the neverending smARtMAKER swindle that has left over 16,000 trusting backers flapping in the wind.

Relevant concepts re: #smartmaker #borderlesselectronics #bemaker:

Astroturfing: deceptive practice of presenting an orchestrated marketing or public relations campaign under the pretense of unsolicited comments from members of the public

Internet Water Army: individuals paid for posting comments, able to “flood” the internet with comments, information, etc for whoever is willing to pay - Use of paid posters to deceptively steer the group will ultimately negatively impact communities such as Open Source and crowd funding by destroying the foundation they were built on, trust.

Cyberbullying: communications that seek to intimidate, control, manipulate, putdown, falsely discredit or humiliate recipient. The actions are deliberate, repeated and hostile behaviour intended to harm another, including posting or distributing libelous or harassing messages.
In 2009, after a 3 year-long investigation into tactics such as astroturfing, the FTC imposed new rules including fines of up to $11,000 per alleged rule violation; requiring anyone writing about products or services to disclose any financial connection with the sellers, including “payment in kind” - These rules also apply to PR and AD agencies.

Deceptive Marketing: Three basic elements

Did they say something, leave something out or do something that is likely to mislead the consumer?

FTC looks from the perspective of the consumer (group) acting reasonably in the circumstance.

Would the consumer make a different decision if not for the deception (whatever they said, didn't say or left out )

So all bullshit and compensated backers aside; The basic question is: Would you have made a different buying decision had Dimitri Albino’s bio read:

In 1997, he created multiple online profiles defining himself as a distributor/wholesaler of computers, cell phone parts, cameras and memory cards from China. He also started to sell many products on eBay, although delivery did not always happen.

In 1999, he moved to the JRC (Joint Research Center) of the European Commission where he managed and configured the Internet for 1 year.

With the entrepreneurial spirit growing, he created a host of overlapping internet sites offering services including but not limited to targeted email marketing, dot-com web hosting, work from home portals, illegal movie and music downloads, porn and innovative marketing methods. Proudly self-proclaimed as the best in Italy, Dimitri Albino leveraged his resources to create a rich portfolio of work for the many websites (he owned).

Riding on his success and partnering with the founder and webmaster of the most famous and talked about websites in all of Italy, Bruzzi.com (an internet portal famous for porn and illegal downloads) - Gekolab was founded.

Gekolab, a media agency active in the creation of internet services and payment instruments; connecting a team able to weave together multiple websites specializing in 3rd party billing direct to LEC’s (phone bill), VOIP, internet marketing and web portals to dubious and questionable content.

Not wanting to limit his options, he created an online presence establishing himself as a manufacturer of plastic, chemical, petroleum products, wholesale fuels, telecommunications and scientific and technical services as a ship owner/operator and bunker broker in Italy, Alma Petroli.

In 2010, 525 companies were monitored for a year by regulatory officials for compliance with new tax code, Alma Petroli was 1 of 5 found guilty and subjected to heavy fines.

3 days ago Harold F. Timmis, smARtMAKER Head of Technology, posted his "rough draft" of the BE BOOK in an attempt to appease the over 4000 backers of his latest crowdfunding scam BE MAKER! on Indiegogo - except he forgot to delete SparkFun's original content he had copied and pasted... oops.

via Twitter, Timmis asserts "All of the content (images, lessons, videos, etc...) is my own and I am working hard on figuring out a good format." - I call bullshit.

Over the past year, more than 16,000 students, teachers, non-profits and makers have bled over a million dollars into the smARtMAKER bank accounts between pre/post crowdfunding presales.

5 out of 5 crowd funding campaigns Harold Frederick Timmis has served as an engineer on have failed to deliver.

Harold F. Timmis is a self-proclaimed teacher, educator and open source advocate; a review of his lack of performance, accountability, delivery and ethics tell a very different story.

Harold "Freddy" Timmis had ample opportunity to walk away from the Dimitri Albino / smARtMAKER scandal before he got his hands dirty - Instead he choose to lay down with the queen of the pigs making false claims and promises to those historically financially strained and living lives of service.

According to sources close to Timmis and smARtMAKER, he was paid a salary of about 70k in 2013, yet the only thing he has accomplished is delivering a mountain of excuses and empty promises. Capitalizing on the knowledge and efforts of leaders in the open source community with no original contributions.

You can't help but wonder what is going through his head now that smARtMAKER has closed their makerspace in Orlando and deleted their Facebook profiles.

Dr. Suess and smARtMAKER Fakers

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 21 May 2014 15:05:00 +0000

"Then, when every last cent of their money was spent, the Fix-it-Up Chappie packed up and he went."

Much like Sylvester McMonkey McBean from Dr. Suess' The Sneetches, Dimitri Albino announced with great flourish the opening of the new smARtMAKER co-Lab via his 50th Kickstarter update on 02/16/13.

With an estimated delivery date of January 2013 on the original crowd funded project; 50 updates and no signs of production or delivery by the project scandalized early on by realizations that the history and experience he presented at launch was a total fabrication - Many backers were shocked to learn of a new smARtMAKER Lab opening on October 4, 2013; a short 8 months later... in the midst of multiple Indiegogo campaigns yet still no delivery of the original promise.

As the first of several smARtMAKER scams which took advantage of the good nature and trust inherent to open source and maker communities was in full swing; complete with an entourage of cyber shills masquerading as "backers" an overwhelming sense of chaos and mistrust echoed and paved the golden road for the fleecing of over 16,000 additional makers, students and teachers via Indiegogo.

The closing of the 2nd smARtMAKER Lab in Orlando at the beginning of May and the refusal to refund dues paid in advance and solicited by Dimitri himself at the Orlando Mini Makers Faire just 8 months past it's grand opening comes as no great surprise to those who have followed this disgrace.

It is sad to watch more of the maker community manipulated, misdirected and misled by planted "backers" ever present on Indiegogo as they were on Kickstarter, most using different pseudonyms. Nothing more than deceptive marketers themselves; buying time and creating a smoke screen for Dimitr Albino and Harold Timmis who have once again, failed to deliver on the Borderless Electronics and BE MAKER! campaigns.

Below is an chain of emails I received several months ago which detail the actual reason for the sudden move to the new space; it also demonstrates the character, or lack thereof Dimitri Albino and Harold Timmis continue to demonstrate.

Aside from the obvious lack of ownership and shifty nature of his communication, I found the email address he used to be quite remarkable....

I'm trying to find the best solution to avoid PayPal. The best it should be a bank transfer, but I've never received bank's information. Please provide me bank routing and account # so I can do the transfer immediately. Please note that every time I've received a late fee I've paid it.

is not me the one who decided that the payments we always made trough PayPal aren't good anymore. And I've offered to make a wire days ago and you refused. I'm sorry but I can't send by email a credit card # and is not my fault if for personal reasons (as her dad passed away recently) Alyssa sometimes can't go to office. I've lost my dad as well and I know what this means. Your community manager is sending every other day promotions for empty spaces but it looks like you are in a hurry to kick us out. You have promised to send the paper to extend the lease, that I've confirmed weeks ago we want, but all what I've got are extra charges without a clear explanation. No traces of the new contract. If you don't want us in CoLab, just say it and we will start today to find another place. So before send Alyssa upstairs I want to know clearly what the property is willing to do. If RealTrend want us as tenants, then send me the papers and I send the girl. If you won't, then not a problem, I will anyway send the girl and then I will ask them to start to search a new place. Thanks and regards, Dimitri Albino

Dimitri, Without going any more into details...the rent is due no later than the 5th of the month. Has nothing to do with our not wanting you here because that is not the case – we never kick anyone out and appreciate everyone!!! As explained we do not have accept wires and if you want to pay on PayPal that’s fine but it must be paid in full without any fees deducted. I have several emails indicating you would be paying but to no avail. I understand you are out of town often but it is critical that in your absent but someone will still be able to pay or drop the rent off. This is your 3rd lateness on a fairly new lease. We all have business to conduct and I understand things come up across the board. I will send you the lease renewal as indicated with pleasure but would appreciate your paying your past due rent plus timely payments going forward.

BE MAKER! Harold Timmis and smArTAKER strike again!

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 21 May 2014 07:47:00 +0000

Update: An Orlando maker confirmed that Chief SCAMmaker Dimitri Albino has struck again (much to the shock and awe of no one) - smARtMAKER Lab Orlando closed it’s doors at the beginning of the month as more fell victim to the lies and deceit that have plagued the Open Source and Maker community for well over a year now.

To add insult to injury; 6 days ago Harold Timmis played the sympathy card for backers of the latest crowd funding scheme BE MAKER! on Indiegogo claiming the latest in a long line of delays were due to his “getting ready to be a dad”

Guess the part where the US Division of smARtMAKER had closed 2 weeks earlier was irrelevant.

Guess it’s back to the condo Dimitri purchased on eBay for $10,000 cash that he never paid taxes on

With over 16,000 pissed off backers out over a million dollars in the past year; you can't help but wonder why +Indiegogo continues to list them as a trusted partner. Makes you wonder which of the 3 founders and owner of the company Dimitri references in this comment:

Why +smARtMAKER is a partner of that platform? The reason is very simple: we have been invited to become partner. One of the three founders and owner of the company, that I know in person, invited me to join them and to help with my experience people that have ideas and are willing to run crowdfunding campaign but can fail.

The other question is where did the newest Indiegogo partner madeinitalycf sponsor of EZControl.it come from as they don't seem to meet any of the criteria detailed by Indiegogo... Link to original post by +Dimitri Albino on Kickstarter Dimitri Albino re: smARtMAKER and Indiegogo

I am constrained to contact you because of the maltreatment which I am receiving from my step mother. She planned to take away all my late father's treasury and properties from me since the unexpected death of my beloved Father because my mother died during child birth and I was left alone with my step mother to take care of me. Meanwhile I wanted to travel to Europe, but she hide away my traveling documents. Luckily she did not discover where I kept my father's File which contained important documents like will and deposit certificate of my Father's fund which bears my name as the next of kin to inherit the money in his bank account. Now I am presently staying in the Refugee Mission Camp in Burkina Faso. I am seeking for long term relationship and investment assistance. My father of blessed memory deposited the sum of US$ 11.5 Million in Bank Of Africa here in Burkina Faso with my name as the next of kin.

I have contacted the Bank to clear the deposit but the Branch Manager i met told me that my late father place an instruction on the deposited fund that I must present a foreign trustee who will help me in investment of the fund.

However, the manager advised me to provide a trustee who will stand on my behalf for the transfer of the fund. I wanted to inform my stepmother about this deposit but I am afraid that she will not offer me anything after the release of the money because she is threaten to kill me.

Therefore, I decide to seek for your help in transferring the money into your bank account while I will relocate to your country and settle down with you. As you indicate your interest to help me I will give you the account number and the contact of the bank where my late beloved father deposited the money with my name as the next of kin. It is my intention to compensate you with 30% out of the total money after the transfer for your assistance and the balance shall be my investment in any profitable venture which you will recommend to me as I have no idea about foreign investment. Please all communications should be through this email address for confidential purposes. Reply me with this email address evidaibrahim1@gmail.com

Thanks in anticipation of your positive response.

Yours sincerely
Miss Ediva Ibrahim Coulibaly.
