It is closely linked to boxing which is a sport that makes use of only the arms and fists. The main difference lies in the fact that this martial art sport makes use of both the hands and the feet. It is likewise referred to as a full contact sport. Understanding its Origin and Types This form of martial art sport has its origin in Japan. It puts together taekwondo, boxing, and karate. It likewise exists in three types. They are the Japanese style, European style, and the American style. Below are their brief descriptions. The Japanese style involves several other forms which are made up by the trainers and boxers. The match is generally comprised of five rounds which are played within 3 minutes each. The opponents are then permitted to attack with the use of the knees and elbows. The attacks may be below the belt except for the crotch. Those which need to be avoided are the throwing, pushing, and head-butting. On the other hand, the American style involves hitting with the fists and feet and the strikes must be just above the hip. The opponents are not allowed to use their knees and elbows and never their shins. The promoters and the fighters should first agree on the stipulated rules and regulations prior to the start of the match. This style is played in two up to three minutes and has about ten up to twelve rounds. There is also a one minute break in between the rounds. The European style is composed of five rounds with each round being played in three minutes. In this match, the opponents can use their knees or thighs during the attacks. They are also allowed to kick below the belt but not where the crotch is located. Head-butting and pushing are also restricted. A Look at Cardio Kickboxing Several individuals clamor for a fit physique. People from all walks of life including the celebrities and politicians nowadays resort to cardio kickboxing. This workout routine is a well rounded collection of exercises in martial arts, boxing, and also aerobics. The traditional movements incorporated are those of the kicks, punches, and other trademark martial arts moves.

Compared to the literal meaning of this exercise, it doesn't promote the presence of an opponent because this is practically aimed at trimming down the physical body. In fact, you may be able to burn between 350 up to 450 calories by performing it in an hour. The exercises can be started out with a warm up of around 10 up to 15 minutes while doing a couple of light movements and stretches. The momentum can thus be marked by the execution of punches and kicks. Take note that stretching is both practical and essential in this kind of exercise routine.

If you truly prefer a rigid and formal training, it is advisable to look for a reputable trainer. You may also buy the instructional videos to keep you guided. As a reminder, be sure to drink lots of water before and after executing the exercise. Now you know that kickboxing is not only a sport but is also an exercise! Are you ready to get slimmer or perhaps become a pro?
It is no wonder that many adults and children are learning this method. The only way that you can know how to do it right is to understand the various techniques. One of the most ordinary is shin kicking.

When getting ready to throw this kind of kick you should put your body at the on guard position or the four point posture. This necessitates you to curve your knees more or less using your dominant leg in back of your non dominant leg and your body slightly turned. Raise your arms up into the defense position and keep your elbows bent inwards.

Ready your abdominal muscles and remember that the bulk of the strength in the kick has to come from your whole body. As you shift the weight of your body onto your dominant leg and curve on your toes you should use all the might you have behind it. This will help you to moderate your movements and keep your balance.

Now you have to swing the dominant leg up and out. Make sure that you aim to hit the individual or punching bag utilizing your shin and not your leg. Bend your knee more or less and swing the entire thing like a baseball bat. Rotate your entire body back to the beginning spot after you hit the target. This is a very effective kickboxing tip that will come in handy during competitions.
This is because a Muay Thai practitioner uses eight points of contact of the body mimicking weapons of war in ancient time. That is why Muay Thai is considered as the warrior s martial art.

Not only the Muay Thai Kickboxing practioner must not only be the epitome of physical fitness, his limbs are trained to maim and kill.

The Muay Thai practitioner s hands thus become his sword and dagger, his shins and forearms act as protective shields against enemy s blows, the elbow is used to fall opponents like a heavy sledgehammer and his knees and legs become the axe and staff.

The knees and elbows are constantly searching and testing for an opening gaps in the adversary s defence while grappling and trying to throw his enemy to the ground for the final fatal kill. Some even called Muay Thai the art of nine body parts, where in this case, the head is also used as a weapon.

Muay Thai is also known as Thai Boxing or Thai Kickboxing because the martial art is made very popular in Thailand and is the country s national sport.

Unlike many forms of martial arts, Muay Thai was not founded by a single master, but was by the evolution of generations of the Thai people and Muay Thai warriors. Ancient wars and conflict between the countries, kingdoms and ethnic races in South East Asia gradually brought about the development of this devastating form of martial art.

There are basically four styles of Muay Thai named after the regions they originated from, namely Ta sao, Koraj, Lob buree, and Chaiya. The Koraj style is what we see in boxing rings in Thailand today. There are also smaller groups of enthusiasts who practice their local styles various parts of Thailand.

The earliest written record about Muay Thai was thought to be kept by a Burmese who mentioned about a prisoner of war who was a Muay Thai master. This master defeated ten Burmese fighters all at once in 1770 March 17 which is the date that the Thais today commemorate Muay Thai Day annually.

There are also many archeological artifacts to support the origin and history of this fighting art form, such as stone carvings found on the walls of old Buddhist temples.

Muay Thai of different styles and origins are still being practiced in the traditional way with all the Muay Thai techniques intact. For example, full Muay Thai is not only a fighting style as we see in the ring these days, but the style also include grappling, throwing, and ground fighting. Remnants of such moves are the grappling for inside knee attack, twisting and throwing in conjunction with inside knee attacks.

It is often said in Thailand that in the battle field, a good soldier has to be able to kill an enemy within seven moves exchanged between him and his enemy. If he could not do that, then he is a dead soldier.

Young Thai men would also learn Muay Thai from their village kru or Muay Thai master. These young men hoped they would be able to display their fighting skills before the selecting judges or even to their much revered kings someday, so that they could be selected for military service along with prestige and honor the career bestow.

Records of fist fighting competitions in the villages date back to at least 800 years. Later, the art of hand wrap was developed to protect the boxer s hands. The open fingers allowed him to grab, lock and throw his opponent onto the ground. This style of hand wrap was used until 1922, when a kickboxer from Burma was killed. After that Western boxing gloves were introduced for safety reasons.

Before the introduction of western style boxing gloves, every Muay Thai fighter had to be educated in herbal medicine. They had to know what type and what part of certain herbal medicinal plants were to be boiled, chewed, or to extract juice from to apply to the body. This is done to help the fighters toughen up their skin, to stop bleeding fast and to cure injuries sustained in battles.

There is a myth that existed to this day that the hand wrap of the fighters of the past were soaked in warm starchy water so that when dried later, the hand wrap would be as hard as plaster cast to inflict heavy injuries on their opponents. Another myth was that grounded glass would be applied on to the wet hand wrap to give the fists a razor like effect to cut open opponents in order to make them bleed profusely.

In a competition, Muay Thai fighters perform a pre fight ceremony and ritual which look like a slow dance incorporating Muay Thai moves. The pre fight ceremony is an old tradition for a noble warrior to pay homage to his king, his faith in Buddhism, his parents and his teachers.

Before the contest, both boxers would kneel down facing the throne where the king was seated or in the direction of the royal palace. The fighters would then perform the first part of the ritual called the Ta Wai Bung Kom, paying homage to the king. Then he would turn around and perform the Wai kru to the other 3 directions, each of which symbolized the religion, parents and teachers. The reflection of this belief is the Mongkol, tied around the fighter s head, and Pra jied around the boxer s arms.

The Ram muay is the second set of ritual that a fighter would perform and each clan or school has its own movement rituals. It was said that if both fighters performed the same movement of Wai kru and Ram muay, they would abandon the contest since they came from the same school or teacher, making them brothers.

The headband Mongkol as well as the Pra jied are sacred objects usually hand made by the teacher and blessed by a holy man. Once placed upon his head, the boxer would not allow anything else to go over his head. This is why we see Muay Thai kickboxers entering into the ring by climbing over the top rope and not in between. These days, the Mongkol is removed before the fight, but in days of old, it must be worn throughout the bout.

During the ceremony and even during the fight, traditional music is played to give the fighters rhythm and timing, as well as heighten the atmosphere of the ceremony and excitement of the fight. The music for the pre fight ceremony is different from the music when the bout begins as the fight music has a more strident tempo to keep up the excitement.

Now that you know what Muay Thai Kickboxing is all about, you may want to learn this sport as a means of self defence and physical fitness as the training is very gruelling.
The boot camp mindset and teaching in this type of work out can help keep you focused and motivated as well.

Women's kickboxing boot camps can be very trying even for individuals in remarkable shape. It is possible to lose focus and form part way through the sessions due to fatigue. To get the best out of the program you have to make sure you give all your effort for each exercise. Fatigue will break you down mentally and make you want to give up. Fighting through these psychological barriers will help you get over your plateaus and accomplish your goals quicker.

Remember Your Core and Posture

With kickboxing exercises, it is extremely essential to remember your core positioning and posture. If you are sloppy, the drills will not be nearly as good and you may even hurt yourself in the process. Your core should always stay tall and firm and should be held in at all times. Be crisp and clean with all of your movements and remember to extend fully whenever possible.

Breathe Right

During intense high impact routines such as a kickboxing boot camp programme, it is important to breathe right. Remember when the proper time to inhale and exhale is for each workout and take deep clear breathes that come in through the nose and out through the mouth. Appropriate breathing will give you the push and oxygen your body needs to execute each workout to the best of your ability.

Women's kickboxing boot camp programs are intense forms of exercising. In order for them to be productive and help you tone your body, you must remember to execute each motion correctly and push yourself past your boundaries. The information above can help you have a successful workout each time you step into a facility.

He, has instantly made a name for himself in the world of full contact fighting. He left the confines of the american kickboxing academy to become a beak out star in the first season of the Ultimate Fighter.

Mike is known for his aggressiveness at the beginning of every fight, that's where. He is an awesome striker and his big fights have been against Chris Legen, Joe Riggs and David Loiseau.

Mike swick is out of ufc 103 following a training accident suffered while sparring against josh koscheck. Right now he chomps at the bit to get back in the welterweight mix. The UFC is targeting a Mike Swick-Dan Hardy matchup to determine the top contender to Georges st Pierre. Ufc president dana white confirms that Mike will take on Dan for the top ufc welterweight contendership spot. It will in fact, take place at ufc 105 on november 14 2009 at the men arena in Manchester, England. Dan hardy says despite touring with Mike Swick he will give him a beating - so we all know were going to be guaranteed a great fight

Mike swick has had a great career and I personally believe he is going to be an athlete that will create the kind of energy, talent and fan appeal that the UFC can never have enough of.
Although watching it on television is great, nothing begins to compare to seeing these moves executed live - with thousands of fans cheering the fighters on.

This is the wonderful world of Muay Thai kickboxing. Muay Thai is a martial art that is unlike any other, rich in the proud heritage of an entire nation. The style is interwoven into the well known history of the Thai people. Even though they are gentle and fun loving people, they've had to defend both themselves and their land for many years against the aggressive powers and thieves.

To protect what they had, the Thai people developed a fighting system of close combat techniques that were suited to the type of rough terrain they would be fighting in. Over the years, it eventually become a rite of passage for all Thai men to train in this amazing martial art.

In the beginning, Muay Thai proved to be a dangerous and deadly art, with the fighters having no safety gear or protection - all they had were lengths of cords in which they would wrap around their fists as gloves. As the years progressed, rules were written into the equation to establish some protection for the fighters.

Over the years, Muay Thai has progressed as both a martial art and a style, attracting people from all over the world. There are training facilities in Russia and the United States, with qualified instructors to help teach Muay Thai to interested students.

These days, Muay Thai is one of the most popular sports in the world. There are a lot of television networks that broadcast Thai bouts on a weekly basis, pleasing avid fighting fans from all over the world. International boxing is another popular sport, although most successful International boxers got their start in Muay Thai. This goes to show why Muay Thai training is so popular - and so lethal as well.

Normally, Thai bouts are fought with 5 three minute rounds, with a two minute rest period in between the rounds. All fights are preceded by a dance, which gives the contestants the opportunity to pay homage to their teachers. The dance is an excellent exercise to warm up with, with plenty of symbolic meaning towards the style.

During the fights and even with training, you'll see that each Thai boxers wears armbands and a headband. The headband that fighters wear is believed to have been blessed by a monk or teacher, and will bestow luck upon the fighter. Thai boxers take a lot of pride in their training and fighting, with the headband being a source of inspiration and pride for the fighter.

During training, Thai fighters will learn a lot about their spiritual well being, the history of Muay Thai, and the skills they need to survive. Fighters that plan to compete in Thai fights will need to practice a lot, as the fights can be very demanding. Thai training can be very brutal, all depending on where you study. If you are studying the ancient arts of Thai boxing, you can count on the training to be very rigorous and demanding.

Although Muay Thai can be a tough art to practice, it is one of the best martial arts that you can study. The techniques are lethal, the training is tough - yet the competitions make it all worth while!
Back then it had nothing to do with weight loss or burning fat, it was all about protecting myself from the enemy. Having been one of those kids who never fit the mold, I thought that I would be safer if I knew how to defend myself from the bullies.

I am glad to say that now I know better, and I know more constructive ways to use kickboxing to my benefit. Kickboxing training allows you to lose weight, burn fat and tone your body. In a way, boxing is the perfect exercise.

What I love the most about kickboxing is that you use both your lower and upper body. How many exercises can you say that about? I love the kicking that is involved, it makes my legs stretch out and builds muscles. I love how the thighs get toned up and shaped up, almost like an athlete's.

Through exercise, I have found that my legs are easier to tone than my upper body. That is where kickboxing and boxing have given me a breakthrough. The power punching and the jabbing that come with this exercise are amazing. I get to engage my arms more than I do with any other exercise that I know. Before kickboxing, I needed to do strength training on my arms to see results and toning on my arms, but with kickboxing, the arms are working and the toning comes.

That is not all. Kickboxing also works your abs. As you punch and kick, your stomach exercises are also at work. Not only does kickboxing allow you to work your whole body, it allows you to do work on your abs, which is one of the hardest areas of the body to see results.

Kickboxing is a great cardio exercise, it elevates your heart rate and burns calories. It has been said that you can burn calories of 350 to 500 per session which is really great. Programs like Taebo have been proven to change lives and bodies for a lot of people, as it combines aerobics and elements of kickboxing.

Apart from the physical benefits and the health benefits that come with this kind of training, I have found this training to be beneficial especially if I am going through some sort of stress. If I am angry, this exercise helps me process my anger, because when I am throwing those punches I feel like I am punching the person that has made me cross. Being the decent person that I am, I realize that I cannot just start punching somebody physically, so I am punching him in my mind, and it helps release my anger or frustration for whatever issue I am going through.

Best of all, I love how I am happier, lighter and feeling better after a session. Try it, it just might work for you also.

Kickboxing classes are really amazing. As if the benefits covered already are not enough, this exercise will help you improve your resistance, strength as well as your speed.

Now that you know these benefits, don't you think it is time you tried it out? The benefits are endless and you are bound to get results with this. It is a great body workout for toning and burning calories so go on and sign up for a class. Your body deserves it!

There are myths about muay thai kickboxing on the TV. Some of them are not base on the real life. If you look at kickboxing from a commoner's perspective, it would appear that it's not of any good. But look at mixed martial arts using the experienced eyes of martial art practitioners.

At the List Universe we love to dispel myths - so here we are, yet again, presenting the list of common myths that need to be debunked and forgotten once and for all.

MYTH #1: Muay Thai Kickboxing is NOT EASY to learn.

A lot of people think the muay thai muay thai kickboxing is difficult to learn. Beginners without any sports experience can learn it quickly but extremely difficult to become a successful professional muay thai fighter, the recreational muay thai kickboxing student can learn moves very quickly and will progress quite dramatically. Additionally, kickboxing boosts confidence, fitness levels, and mental strength. The reason why muay thai kickboxing is quite easy to learn is that it is a sport based on what works in reality. At an authentic muay thai kickboxing gym, one does not learn 95% of moves offered by the martial arts. muay thai kickboxing focuses on what is essential and what is practical in real life. By definition, the simplest moves are often the ones that work in real life. That's not like the Hollywood moive.

MYTH #2: Muay Thai Kickboxing is dangerous.

Muay Thai Kickboxing is a sport as safe as any other active sport such as running, football, or squash. In the 15 years since modern mixed martial arts came into being, one fighter, Sam Vasquez of Houston, has died as a result of injuries sustained in a sanctioned MMA fight. By comparison, Professional Boxing experiences a few deaths a year. Additionally, with the growth of muay thai kickboxing as a sport, the training standards have increased and most schools now offer programs that use muay thai kickboxing as a fitness platform for the general population.

MYTH #2: Muay Thai Kickboxing was once banned in nearly every state of US

Actually, only one state, New York, kickboxing is not allowed by law, a statute that remains on the books (hence why Saturday's CBS show is across the river in Newark, N.J.). The difference is the UFC refuses to promote in places that don't have a sanctioning athletic commission, an entirely separate matter from an outright ban.

MYTH #4 Muay Thai Kickboxing is too violence in our culture.

The base components of kickboxing, like jiu-jitsu, judo, taekwondo, and Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling, teach people discipline and respect. Women's self-defense classes based on utilizing muay thai kickboxing techniques are popping up all over the country. This would seem to indicate self-defence, not violence.

Both the U.S. military and police departments from coast to coast teach soldiers and police officers how to use muay thai kickboxing to fight. If kickboxing is good enough for our nation's peacekeepers, it should be good enough for younger generation.

MYTH #5 Muay Thai Kickboxing is not professional.

There is another name of muay thai kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

MMA is a kind of match that involves different disciplines and arts. Kickboxing holds some of the best martial artists in the world. Before entering MMA, some of the players are college students or Olympic champions. In order to stay as competitive as the other sports, the athletes of kickboxing are required to enter trainings of martial arts varieties to be able to learn further disciplines like boxing, judo, jiu-jitsu, wrestling and karate.

Ultimately, MMA is here to stay and is a positive influence on today's society. Muay Thai Kickboxing is for everyone interested in having fun, getting fit, and making new friends.
For a first timer, it is important to watch out for your full kicks and firm punches. Be sure to use the proper positioning or else you may end up with injured muscles or broken bones. Refrain from doing the consecutive kickboxing. If you want to be able to stay fit, start out with a weekly basis. Increase the frequency as you develop more resistance and agility. Avoid performing it twice in a day as it may do damage to your muscles, tendons, and joints. Be guided. The best professional to turn to is a trainer. He will surely give you the vital pointers. Warm up. To further save yourself from intense body pains, be sure to warm up for at least 10 minutes. Don't be too ambitious. If you are a newbie, remain humble. Never execute the moves which are beyond your own capacity. By and large, kickboxing can be played by anyone who is willing enough to engage in proper training. Ensure that you follow these safety tips so that you may gain the above mentioned benefits.
This is because a Muay Thai practitioner uses eight points of contact of the body mimicking weapons of war in ancient time. That is why Muay Thai is considered as the warrior's martial art.

Not only the Muay Thai Kickboxing practioner must not only be the epitome of physical fitness, his limbs are trained to maim and kill.

The Muay Thai practitioner's hands thus become his sword and dagger, his shins and forearms act as protective shields against enemy's blows, the elbow is used to fall opponents like a heavy sledgehammer and his knees and legs become the axe and staff.

The knees and elbows are constantly searching and testing for an opening gaps in the adversary's defence while grappling and trying to throw his enemy to the ground for the final fatal kill. Some even called Muay Thai the art of nine body parts, where in this case, the head is also used as a weapon.

Muay Thai is also known as Thai Boxing or Thai Kickboxing because the martial art is made very popular in Thailand and is the country's national sport.

There are basically four styles of Muay Thai named after the regions they originated from, namely Ta-sao, Koraj, Lob-buree, and Chaiya.

Later, the art of hand wrap was developed to protect the boxer's hands.

In a competition, Muay Thai fighters perform a pre-fight ceremony and ritual which look like a slow dance incorporating Muay Thai moves. The pre-fight ceremony is an old tradition for a noble warrior to pay homage to his king, his faith in Buddhism, his parents and his teachers.

The reflection of this belief is the Mongkol, tied around the fighter's head, and Pra-jied around the boxer's arms.

The Ram muay is the second set of ritual that a fighter would perform and each clan or school has its own movement rituals. It was said that if both fighters performed the same movement of Wai-kru and Ram-muay, they would abandon the contest since they came from the same school or teacher, making them brothers.

The headband Mongkol as well as the Pra-jied are sacred objects usually hand made by the teacher and blessed by a holy man.

As said, a key difference between a trained martial artist and a streetfighter is that the martial artist reflexively hits in sequences of three or four moves. The instinctive non-thinking reaction isn't just a one-move event, its a more effective practiced sequence of strikes. One punch or kick is easy to defend against, but three or four thrown in a row can be very difficult to deal with.

This reflexive reaction of hitting in sequences is only learned through lots of repetition and drills, performing sequences over and over until it is an automatic reflex. Cardio kickboxing is an ideal way to do this. In fact many of the patterns in cardio kickboxing are drawn from such drills.

Useful for cardio kickboxing choreography, here are some real-world combinations culled from the martial art sport loosely called Kickboxing. What came to be known as competitive kickboxing is a constrained system common to a number of martial arts. The original brand of "Kickboxing" was developed in Japan in 1950 by boxing promoter Osamu Noguchi as a style/ruleset for beating Muay Thai fighters. In classic competitive Kickboxing opponents are allowed to strike with both the fists and the feet, hitting above the hip. However, unlike Muay Thai, using elbows or knees was forbidden and the use of shins was also often not allowed.

Kicks are generally more powerful than punches and so are a valuable tool. But in practice it is a good idea to set up a leg kick with handwork first. A jab or two will make your opponent think about your hands...then you step and kick. Or jab/cross/right kick, with the cross either being more of a fake and push (which allows you to kick really hard) or a hard right that sets up a right kick It's more difficult to kick hard with this combo, but if you drill the guy with a good cross he'll be knocked back a bit and then you step in...

Here are the combinations:

Jab, cross, lead hook, cover

Jab, cross, lead hook, lead front kick

Jab, cross, rear leg front roundhouse kick, cover

Introduce the sequences half-time, then depending on the students, double it up. For the last sequence above make sure to tell the students to bring their rear foot back to the rear-foot starting position after the roundhouse kick (instead of alongside the other). In practice the cover happens simultaneously with bringing the foot back.

Of course for every rule (punch before kick) there is an exception. This sequence works particularly well on the bags.

Lead leg side kick, feet together, rear leg step back

Lead leg side kick, feet together, cross with rear leg step back

These combinations can be repeated individually or in sequences either on the floor or with a heavy bag. Devote equal time to right and left leg forward positions. Most are oriented around smooth rotation around the spine, swinging the body so that each punch or kick winds up for the next. After you get the progressions down, start inter-mixing the combinations together in different patterns to present something different every class.
It can be practiced either as a full-contact combat sport or for general fitness. While the term refers to various forms of combat sports, it is generally associated with Japanese and American kickboxing. The term was introduced by Osamu Noguchi, a Japanase boxing promoter.

The History of Kickboxing

Kickboxing is a derivative of karate, boxing, taekwondo and other combat styles and it was created to compete against them. All styles of kickboxing have been first developed in Japan. However, similar influences were taking place in the United States as well and martial artists from toured both Japan and US, developing a common kickboxing standard.

Initial Japanese Development

As a specific form of martial art, kickboxing was inspired from Muay Thai, a combat sport originated in Thailand. Osamu Noguchi, a Japanese boxing promoter, developed it as a competitive style to oppose Muay Thai. He wanted to present to the Japanese people the fighting style that he had discovered in Thailand and in 1966 he took three Muay Thai fighters to compete against Japanese karate fighters. The Japanese won by 2-1. Noguchi and Kenji Kurosaki studied the combat style thoroughly and developed a combined martial art called kickboxing. At first, throwing and butting were allowed in order to distinguish it from the Muay Thai style. However, they were later eliminated.

A few years later, the Kickboxing Association, the first kickboxing organization, was founded in Japan. Kickboxing was broadcast on TV and became very popular in Japan. Back then, Tadashi Sawamura was an extremely popular kickboxer. After he retired, kickboxing started to lose its popularity and stopped being broadcast on TV. He hadn't been on TV until 1993, when K-1 was founded. In 1993, Kazuyoshi Ishii, who was the founder of Seidokan karate, produced K-1 under kickboxing rules (no elbow or neck wrestling). Since then, kickboxing started to regain its popularity and became famous again. Soon it's popularity started spreading through North America and Europe as well.

Spreading to North America and Europe

Jan Plas, a Dutch kickboxer, and a few Muay Thai pioneers, initiated Mejiro jym in Netherlands in 1978. He had learned kick boxing in Japan from the famous Kenji Kurosaki. In addition, he was also the one that founded the Dutch Kickboxing Association (NKBB) in 1978, which was the first kickboxing organization in the Netherlands.

Kickboxing & Fitness

Kickboxing has gradually become a fitness craze as well. Kickboxing classes are very popular in European countries also. They are attended by both men and women. It has become very popular among women of all ages who are always looking for new methods to lose weight or stay in shape.

As you walk by a kickboxing class, you will see that most times it is packed. It seems that all you have to bring is yourself and plenty of energy. Kickboxing classes are generally coregraphed to house or techno music. The whole class consists of a full hour of punching to the beat. It involves a lot of arm movements, squats, power movements and a good amount of cardiovascular workout. This is what explains its high popularity as a fitness activity. With all the fun, you even forget about the fact that you are actually working out.
Just like in anything else, women have taken a fair share in the limelight too. In the past, the name Rob Kaman was almost worshipped by kickboxing fans. Now, "bad girls" like Sylvia La Notte, Jennifer Han and Kattie Meehan are rising stars of women kickboxing.

According to www.wfighter.com, women's kickboxing is essentially a combination of karate and boxing. It was introduced to the society in response to the growing clamor of women who excel in karate and wish to try kickboxing as well. This is the hard side of women's kickboxing. Nowadays, tournaments are held all over the world, mainly in Thailand for women's kickboxing.

The more mellow side of women's kickboxing is the one shown on DVD's. This is the kind of kickboxing that combines boxing, martial arts, aerobics, and music. This form of kickboxing is designed to create a perfect mix of hidden talent and self-defense.

Nevertheless, both forms of kickboxing are not designed to transform modern women to the warriors of the Amazon, they are intended to increase physical strength, flexibility, skill and stability. The good thing about women kickboxing is that it empowers women to defend themselves in the event of an attack. It must not be denied how the world has evolved to be so harmful for women and children and that the rights of women are still so incomplete compared to those of the men.

Aside from the fact that it is a form of self-defense, women's kickboxing will also benefit the cardiovascular system. The constant moving keeps the heart rate elevated so that it will result in the increase of one's metabolism; burning unwanted fats and calories.

Now that we have properly established what women's kickboxing is and what it does to you; it is up to you to decide as to which form of women's kickboxing you will do. Finding the right school will be the next huddle for not all training programs will work best for you. These are some tips to finding the right kickboxing school for you:

1. Decide on which kickboxing style suits you the most; whether you're into extreme sports or you're just trying to lose some unwanted fats.

2. Find a kickboxing school that is most convenient for you. It could be near your home or your office so that it will save you the hassle of going to another destination which is out of your way. Also, observe at least one session first before you decide on signing up for it. Observing would give you a bird's eye view of how the training is supervised and the rate with which it is conducted.

3. Choose the class which is equivalent to your skills. If you know nothing about the sport, then don't go for the advanced lessons. You might suffer adverse effects including overly strained muscles and bruises.

4. Discuss the requirements with the instructor before joining. That way, you will be prepared for any financial expenses that you might need. In some kickboxing facilities, there may be some required equipments and/or uniforms.
Is it for the for the pleasurable feeling you have after you are completely spent from a good workout? Is it the added health benefits of being fit, and having a strong heart? Are you trying to lose weight or simply maintain a healthy weight? Or do you just want to look amazing in a swimsuit?

Kickboxing training will check the block on all counts. In addition to the usual benefits listed above you also benefit from greater self-confidence in knowing that you are strong, fast, and can react quickly any physical situation.

Why kickboxing training over, let's say jogging? That's easy - have you seen joggers? or marathon runners for that reason. They may have aerobic endurance, but they look like they would have trouble lifting a sack of potatoes. If you are going to make a committment to being physically fit, having strength should be just as important as stamina. Actually your fitness model should have three areas of concentration.

•Stamina
•Strength
•Flexibility
Jogging generally focuses on stamina, joggers and runners may do some leg stretches too, but that's it for flexibility, and it does absolutely nothing for upper body strength.

Bodybuilding and weight training - the focus is primarily on strength, but many exercises require you to move your muscles and joints through a full range of motion, providing you some flexibility.

Yoga - Flexibility, some postitions will cause your body to increase strength to hold the various positions. Yoga proponents would add balance to overall fitness - in which case kickboxing still is an excellent exercise.

Pilates - They work all three areas fairly well, although anyone who has done both kickboxing training and pilates will tell you it lacks the intensity of kickboxing training.

Burning an average of 400-600 calories per hour, kickboxing training is a serious cardio workout. Working both upper and lower body, requiring balance, agility, flexibility and cardio-vascular endurance. Strength training is often incorporated into most kickboxing programs. During this period, most battles were on the ground, "mano a mano", using swords or whatever else worked, such as bare hands or legs.

As time went by, it became a sport rather than a way of survival in battle, and hands were wrapped in horsehide and eventually gloves. The sport gained popularity and is now included with overall boxing techniques.

At its most basic, it is a combination of traditional boxing techniques along with martial arts kicking moves. If someone refers to kickboxing or Thai Boxing, Muay Thai is what they are talking about. Kickboxing is the most common modern terminology.

Now, choosing the best school for your courses is the most important step. Look up all the schools in your neighborhood that offer kickboxing.

Next, go to them in person for the best observation. This way you can see how classes are conducted.

Is the teacher expecting the students to learn merely be repeating his motions? Or is he more proactive, involving the students in each move? There are a lot of people who are the best at their field, but are not able to pass this knowledge on to others.

Also bigger schools will have several instructors and break down classes into\according to age, ability and experience. If this is the case, pick a class to observe such as one you would be in.

Another important thing in choosing the right school is to talk with the head instructor, or owner. Here you will find out all of the basics of the classes and the teachers. Question his qualifications and training, and whether he maintains membership in any professional groups.

Don't forget that kickboxing is a highly physical sport, so you need to be prepared for that. If the school does not prepare its students in the basics, they may become fearful or disillusioned.

You should also go to the trouble of talking to some students enrolled in the school. Find out their impressions of the style, the sport, the competition, the instructors, and notice the level of enthusiasm with which they talk about it to you. Also, notice the cleanliness of the school.

Even though this is a personal decision for each person, you have to make sure you don' make the wrong choice and lose interest in the sport. So you can see that it is critical to take these steps to find the best instruction. This is the way you will find the best school for you.

Many schools divide classes according to ability or age. Observe the class you would be joining.

You should also make a point of talking to the owner or head of the school. S/he should be willing and capable of explaining every aspect of the classes. Find out about their education and qualifications and what, if any, professional organizations they are a part of.

Kickboxing is a physically grueling, competitive sport. If it not properly taught, the student will become disillusioned and even frightened.

You should also go to the trouble of talking to some students of the school. Learn whether they think they are getting good instruction, and whether they are "turned on" by their classes. The cleanliness of the facility is extremely important.

Choosing the right Muay Thai Kickboxing school is a matter of personal preference, and choosing the wrong one can turn you off from the sport. These steps are well worth taking. You can then be sure that you will have the best school.

About the Author
st louis BJJ: For more useful articles on "Martial Arts in St-Louis" please visit our site.

About the Author
Al Dawson is a 25 year + keep fit fanatic and runs the company : http://www.ultimateboxingbags.com.

The Author grants full reprint rights to this article. While all of these certainly have their value, RBSD training focuses specifically on equipping you with the skills and confidence that you need to:

Neutralize an attacker within seconds and end a violent conflict quickly.

To prepare for real life, high-risk situations, you need training that encompasses a broad range of variables.

Reality Based Self Defense Training takes into consideration:

*Multiple Opponents *Armed Opponents (edged weapons, impact weapons, firearms) *Opponents Who Are Larger or Stronger Than You *Opponents Under The Influence Of Drugs and Alcohol *Awareness of Bystanders and Defenseless Individuals *Utilization of Surroundings and Improvised Weapons

The practical nature of this type of self defense training makes it ideal for law enforcement officers, security professionals, military personnel, and private citizens who understand the importance of being prepared for a dangerous situation.

Common elements of RBSD Training include:

- Situational Awareness - Verbal De-escalation techniques - Attacking Vital Areas (eyes, throat, groin, etc.) - Finger Manipulation and Wrist Locks - Grappling - Kickboxing - Take-downs and "Come-alongs" - Knife Defense and Disarms - Stick Fighting - Gun Disarms - Legal Considerations in Self Defense

The nice thing about Reality Based Self Defense Training is that anyone can take advantage of it. You don't need to be a black belt, special ops soldier, or a "tough guy". You don't even need to be in excellent physical condition.

You just need to have the desire to do something about it the next time you or someone you care about is threatened with violence.

If you are serious about practical, quality self defense training, I will be more than happy to direct you to the instruction that you need. Why put it off? A great reason is because you will get the workout of your life. A lot of people will start a workout program just to quit a month or two into it because they get bored of running or bicycling. What kickboxing offers is a wide variety of body movements to not only help you burn a ton of fat but also strengthen your muscles to further help you burn more fat.

Because of the different things that are involved, you won't easily get bored of it. Another added benefit is that you'll be able to defend yourself better. Unless you train intensely for a few years, you won't be able to compete or anything, but that's not really your aim here anyway. Your aim is to get fit and at the same time build confidence by learning to defend yourself.

When it comes to actually learning to defend yourself, you have to do the real thing. I'm not talking about aerobic kickboxing. I'm talking about repetitive kicks and punches to punching bags and sparring. This will get you use to holding the right stance and performing the right punch and kicks. With the aerobic kind, you're really just moving a lot to sweat. Form isn't as important therefore, in real life situations, your strikes won't be as strong.

One last thing. The best way to avoid a fight is to back down. That is not "wimpy", it's smart. Only try to defend yourself if it's your last resort. Other than that, enjoy the health benefits kickboxing training provides. It can be the most fun workout you can have.

About the Author
David helps contribute to a site about kickboxing training.

This is why having proper kickboxing equipment is highly important for all combatants to safeguard their bodies from unnecessary damages.

The most basic kickboxing equipment are the gloves, hand wraps, trousers, shoes, mouth piece, groin and shin guards, and sometimes, helmets. As these items will very much likely receive some degree of beating, it is important that you get the highest quality you can get with your budget and level of practice. And to help you with choosing which product name will suit you, here are some tips you should mull over before purchasing.

Gloves

There are different types of gloves, depending on the weight, usually ranging from 6 to 18 oz. The lighter gloves are usually for professional fights, while the moderate weighing ones are used for training with pad and bags, and sometimes for free sparring, like the heaviest types. Use of the heaviest gloves work as a protection for both parties, but rules still apply against hard punches in the head. In buying your own set of gloves, experts suggest getting those with trusted brand names. This is because, usually, branded ones are much stronger and could last for a couple of years.

Trousers

The first requirement for choosing a kickboxing trouser is how freely it will allow you to move, kick, and raise your legs. As long as it is loose enough for that purposes, it could work.

Shoes

Wearing shoes are rather optional for most enthusiasts for other prefer being barefoot in fights. However, there are specialized kickboxing shoes which are especially created to endure the intensity of the sport. Another option, especially for beginners, is by wearing trusted trainers that would allow you to move freely without hurting you.

Keep in mind that in buying kickboxing equipment, your safety is always the main goal. So, in purchasing other items, like mouth piece and shin and groin guards, pick the ones which will effectively perform and meet the requirements for their purposes. This way you can be able to enjoy the sport better without worrying too much about your safety.

About the Author
For more information please visit my Kickboxing Equipment site.

Beginning his martial arts training at the young age of 12, he fights out of San Luis Obispo, California. Born and raised in that state, he wrestled at California Polytechnic State University, where he also majored in accounting. Before he began his full time fighting career with the UFC, he worked as a bouncer and bartender despite having an accounting degree.

1998 was the first time that we saw Chuck Liddell fight in the UFC. By 2002, he was the number one contender for the light heavyweight title. At that time the title was held by Tito Ortiz, who Liddell had trained with at the Pitfight Club. Apparently Ortiz refused to give Liddell a chance to fight him for the title, so instead he fought Randy Couture, who was a former heavyweight champion and a veteran of the UFC.

Unfortunately, he lost to Couture, and it was Couture who later beat Ortiz, becoming the new light heavyweight champion. In UFC 47, Liddell then was able to knock out Ortiz after he lost that title. In UFC 52, Chuck fought Couture once again. This time he was able to beat Couture, and he now was able to claim the light heavyweight title. After this fight, Randy Couture announced his retirement.

Liddell is known as The Iceman and is known for his unconventional fighting style. He is trained in Brazilian Ju Jitsu, kickboxing, wrestling, and Karate Tae Kwon Do, with a black belt. His style has been described as being very relaxed, but disconcerting to his opponents at the same time. This makes his actions difficult to anticipate.

His exciting fights are intense and exciting, which has contributed to the fighters popularity immensely with MMA and the UFC. What also helps his popularity is the fact that he tries to make sure that his wins are from knockouts rather than by judges decision as much as possible.

The UFC launched a reality series in 2005 called The Ultimate Fighter and Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell were chosen to be the coaches of the two teams of aspiring Mixed Martial Arts fighters. Both of the finalists from that show were members of Chucks team, and were given contracts to fight with the UFC. Forrest Griffin and Diego Sanchez were the winners of the series, and both became successful in their endeavors with the MMA.
