Parents need to take back the control of what the family is eating by setting a role model with your kid’s bases on what you eat.  Educate yourselves on good eating habits and practice at home.  Your kids will most likely eat good or bad food based on what the parents are eating.

Encourage you and your children to try a new vegetable and fruit each week.  Offer a variety of healthy foods to create new eating habits.  Make meal time fun and enjoyable.

Encourage your family to eat three meals a day.  Especially BREAKFAST with some type of protein such as eggs or similar quality protein.  Reduce refined carbohydrates such as box cereals that have little of any quality nutritional value.

Eliminate refined carbohydrates and replace them with complex carbohydrates such as whole grains as rice, wild rice and oatmeal.  Eat 3 whole fruits a day and reduce the juices with adding more fresh water to the diet.  Eliminate soda pop and sugar fortified drinks.

Keep your child active in activities that encourage exercise and sports.  Have healthy foods such as fruits and nuts for snacks which help teach children to use these types of foods for energy instead of sugar.

Plan your meals and make it a family affair.  Get your children involved in helping with decisions on the menu for the meals.  This is an excellent time to teach about choices and the importance of meal planning.  Plan to eat together as a family.

As you shop for food makes this fun and educational time and place.  Teach the children the importance of eating food on the outside of the food isles where the fruits, vegetables, protein, and dairy sections are.  The foods found in the boxes are processed as compared to the whole natural foods that are not.

As parents shopping at the grocery store teach your children about choosing the right foods by showing them the importance in reading labels.  This will show them it is important to look for good foods and choose the right foods to eat.

Get some professional advice and guidance in finding a good vitamin and mineral supplement.  This should never be a substitute for not eating well.  Good food always comes first.  Then supplement a good multiple vitamin in support of the good food program.

Last but not least by setting healthy nutrition rules by getting the children involved in the mealtime.  Have them help in setting the table for the meal and also in the preparation of the food.  This not only teaches the children the importance of the meal time together as a family but the critical nature of the importance to take time to prepare quality foods which will build and nourish the body.

Absolute Must Know Tricks to Installing Car Seats

Whether you are installing an infant seat or a toddler seat, the rules are basically the same.  If you are not going to use the LATCH system and are planning to loop the car’s seat belts through the car seat there are some tricks that will ensure it is tight.

The first thing to do is make sure that your child safety seat sits level on the seat.  If it doesn’t it is acceptable to place a rolled towel under it so that the baby or child is not leaned too far back.  As you bring the car seat belt through the seat’s path make sure to pull out the belt all the way.  This causes the seat belts in most cars to become locked or fixed.  It should make a distinct sound when you pull it out.  Once that is done, loop the belts through the back or bottom of the seat making sure you use the proper space provided.  Connect the belt to the buckle and allow the seat belt to retract all the way in.   After this is done, it is advisable to place your knee using all your weight to push the seat in place and retract the belt eliminating any of the slack.  Test it to make sure that it doesn’t sway side to side or forward and you will see just how tight it is.

How to Use a LATCH System and Belt Clips

At first glance child safety car seats can be confusing.  There are so many belts and buckles you may not know which ones to use.  On the back of the seat it should clearly say which ones are for LATCH (Lower anchors and tethers) and which are for the traditional seat belts.  If you are using the LATCH system you much find the bottom and top anchor points in your car.  They are usually behind the seat on the top and under the seat near the floorboards on the bottom.  Snap both of these into places.  Sometimes it is very difficult to use the LATCH system and properly tighten the belts.  The best bet is to use your body weight to pull the tethers tight. Check the seat to make sure it doesn’t rock or slip forward.  If it does continue tightening it until it no longer moves.

All Car Seats Will Come With a Clip on the Back 

This clip is only necessary in older model cars and is used to ensure that the buckles do not slip.  The clip is attached to both of the belts (shoulder and lap) to hold them together and should be installed right above the clipping mechanism or buckle.  They can be hard to get on at first but are absolutely necessary in older model cars.  If you do not use them you risk allowing the belt system to malfunction which nulls the use of the car seat. 

Think about this for a minute!  Consumer testing reports conducted showed that a car seat is 71% more effective at preventing injury at high and low speeds than using without.  Chances are if you install a seat wrong or move a child up to quickly – they will be killed in the event of a wreck.  All research indicates that car seats are the safest way to keep kids safe in the car and should be used properly.

Danielle and Kristin’s Story:

Danielle’s daughter Kristin at 14 did well in school and excelled at track. When Kristin was in 8th grade, she received a computer and strict rules to go along with her use. Danielle’s mother never could have guessed what was to come for her family.

Danielle described the day her family changed to Oprah’s cameras. After returning from church at 2:00 in the afternoon, Danielle heard her husband scream for her to call 911. Going down the hall while on the phone, Danielle watched her husband cut her daughter down from the rafters.

How did this happen? After finding out that Kristin had a profile up on a social networking site, Danielle took the computer away for more than 5 months, but Kristin had already started a relationship with 27 year-old Kylie Ryan Bowers.  Just before her 15th birthday, Kristin revealed to her mom that she had been used by the man and made to feel wanted and beautiful.

She told her mother that she had gone with him to a motel where he sexually attacked her and once he had what he wanted, returned to Texas.

Kristin had been communicating with the man for 8 months and had only met him the 1 time. She didn’t realize she could get so emotionally involved, and entered a deep depression after the abuse, reality of the trial, and harassment she received online after he returned to Texas.

While it doesn’t make up for the loss of her daughter, Kylie Ryan Bowers did receive a 9 year sentence for his actions.

Because it helps her deal with the pain of losing her daughter, Danielle wished to share Kristin’s story and the lessons she learned from her experience that other parents may benefit from.

Danielle shared the following tips for parents:

• It can happen to anyone – predators are experts in seduction and can convince a child to trust him. Don’t believe that because you have a ‘good’ kid that it couldn’t happen to your child.
• Learn the technology – use safety software and know what your child is using online.
• Don’t let your children be naive – share stories of caution so your child knows what to look out for while using the internet.

Cell Phone Predators:

A story was also shared in a clip about a girl who was not allowed to have a computer, but was given a cell phone at 11.

Finding a chat site on her phone, she met a 20 year old man online when she was 12. After just recently losing her dad, she was able to find support from this man and eventually agreed to meet him at a park.  The incident ended in him raping her, but thankfully he was caught but only sentenced to 3 years in jail.

Alicia’s Story:

In October of 2007, Alicia testified before congress about being lured by an online predator at 13 and kidnapped to Virginia to become a sex slave. Alicia met Scott Tyree online and talked to him for 8 months before agreeing to meet with him on New Year’s day of 2002.

Once Alicia was near Scott in person, she knew he was a monster and would have to do whatever she could to survive.  Scott raped, beat and too video of Alicia locked in his basement. He bragged to his friends and shared images and video of his prisoner online, which eventually led to him being caught and Alicia being saved.

A friend who Scott shared the material with turned him into the FBI, and Alicia was rescued after 4 days.

Alicia shared that Scott seduced and groomed her into trusting him. Always telling her what she wanted and needed to hear, Alicia became brainwashed.

Now a college junior, Alicia speaks to schools to help kids not make the mistakes that she made.  Scott received 19 years in jail for his actions and is a great example of how internet predators are monsters disguised as the man next door.

Some teens in rural America are now self-inducing abortions with chemicals intended to abort livestock, reports one of the nation’s oldest and most influential pro-life organizations.

“What kind of world have we created for these girls that they’re drinking poison and risking death in these modern-day back-alley abortions, rather than bear their child in love,” asked Judie Brown, president of the American Life League,

The grisly situation was first exposed through the efforts of Anna Anderson, head of the Care Net Pregnancy Center in Green County, Wis., who reported the trend on the Stephenson County Right to Life website of Freeport, Ill.

Anderson reported getting numerous calls and visits to her pregnancy care center from teens who either had taken the drugs or were worried about friends who had taken them.

Cases have been documented in at least three rural Wisconsin counties, she said.

The drugs, kept on farms for management of livestock under the names Prostaglandins, Cystorelin, Factrel, Gonadorelin or Lutalyse, were being ingested orally in large quantities, even though animals are treated by injection, the alert said.

Besides resulting in the death of the unborn baby, other complications that could ensue include infections, blood loss and even death.

“If I hadn’t known the woman who reported this, I wouldn’t have believed it,” Brown said.

But both Wisconsin and national veterinary associations have acknowledged the problem.

According to the American Animal Hospital Association warning, its state officials in Wisconsin “contacted the district school nurse, who verified that the district has received reports of this abuse.”

“This situation underscores the need for veterinarians to remain vigilant about storing, distributing, prescribing and using veterinary products that can pose human health risks,” the advisory said.

Brown blamed it on parents’ lack of communication with their children.

“We are currently in a meltdown situation with regard to the kinds of communication parents are having with their children,” she said. “The parents no longer are truly in charge of their children. They have surrendered control to the public school system.”

She wondered what kind of circumstances would allow young girls to not “feel obligated” to discuss with their parents an issue such as ingesting poison.

ALL had only days earlier issued a report revealing that in the last two years, 61 additional Planned Parenthood facilities have started offering “medical,” as distinguished from surgical, abortions.

Quoting Celebrate Life editor Stephanie Hopping, Brown noted veterinary medication abortions “illustrate that decriminalized abortion does not stop highly dangerous abortion methods like this. In fact, it probably encourages the use of them mightily, because this is hardly different from an RU-486 abortion, except that it isn’t done under medical supervision.”

ALL also has reported medical abortions are on the rise, based on a survey of offerings from Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider.

“A teenager who is trying to hide the truth from her parents, and knows that the local farmer has a drug that is going to take care of her ‘problem,’ could not only succeed in killing her baby, but could kill herself,” said Brown.

“The culture of death would shed not a tear, of course, but for those of us who struggle to restore moral sanity to America, a report like this sends shivers down our spines,” she said.

Anderson’s warning reported she knew the practice had been going on “at least since this past summer when a young ‘hired’ man in our area gave a girl a medication meant to (among other uses) induce abortions in cows and horses to cause her to abort their child.”

“This is a very deadly drug for fetuses,” she continued. “According to a local veterinarian, pregnant women are not even supposed to handle the bottles in which it is stored unless they are wearing gloves. Needless to say this girl lost the baby. The drug consists of a high concentration of hormones so human ingestion of it is not poisonous to the girls but it is deadly to the developing fetus and has potentially deadly consequences for the girls.

“The news of this young couple’s success in aborting their baby has spread through the Monroe High School and possibly elsewhere, which has resulted in other pregnant girls obtaining and consuming this drug in order to abort their unborn babies,” Anderson reported.

“Some of the girls who are taking the drug are much further along in their pregnancies than the original girl. This is resulting in life-threatening complications for the pregnant girls when the drug successfully results in the placenta pulling away from the uterine wall; the baby being starved; the baby then dying; which results in spotting and uterine contractions followed by an abortion of the baby. In these more advanced pregnancies, these girls could potentially bleed to death or have a life-threatening systemic infection if the uterus is not completely emptied of the baby and other pregnancy tissues. In addition, one physician said that there could be clotting issues because of this drug.”

She warned, “Girls (and obviously their babies) are going to be dying because of this. Babies have already died because of it.

“If this is going on at our high school, chances are that it is happening at other high schools as well – especially in rural agricultural areas. Unsuspecting parents and anyone else who might be in a position to help these girls and stop this deadly practice need to be aware of this ‘drug abuse’ among area teens,” Anderson said.
