Many kids across Missouri started their first day of school today. With new teachers, lessons and classmates, there's a lot to take in. We talked to a few kids in the Jefferson City elemantary schools about what they did and what they're looking forward to this school year.

Sports in the Heat

For many kids, sports activities are just getting started. With temperatures as hot as they've been, it's important to know how to stay cool while practicing. For starters, drink plenty of fluids before, during and after practice. But make sure they're not sugary and caffeinated soft drinks. Those won't help much. Take breaks while you're practicing. Overworking is one way to get overheated. Wear light color clothes, that are also made of light material. Keep these tips in mind and you'll be less likely to get sick from the heat.

Kids from all across the country love the stars of "High SchoolMusical". And Missouri kids got their chance to see them perform liveat the State Fair Tuesday. Before those guys hit the stage, another actwarmed up the crowd with her new music. Jordan Pruitt is the openingact for performers such as; Corbin Bleu and Drake Bell. They all tookto the Pepsi Grandstand to entertain.

Just about every kid knows who McGruff the Crime Dog is. His website is a wonderful resource for tips on how to deal with safety issues and bullying. You should check it out with your parents. Besides the great tips, there are activities for a variety of ages. Play games and interact with other youngsters.
