Page lost his snippetwig

The fairy Page writes with a snippetwig,
Dipping it in ink from a squid so big.
Poor Page can’t write a word anymore
He lost his snippetwig on the way to the store!

Flibber-flap! What do I do now?
I need to write a song for the Crow!
The fairies want to party hard,
For he won the Clever Crow award.

Page called his friend Fred the Frog,
Living in Frizzy Pond behind a log.
He also asked Moby the duck
The one he saved when stuck in the muck.

Ducks are great at finding things,
They go for it with flapping wings,
Fred and Page knew Moby’s woozlequack
The way he chatters when he finds something back.

Together they smell and sniff and huddle
and spot the snippetwig in a puddle
Fred made a splash like a cannonball,
His puddlepuff created a waterfall.

He brought the snippetwig safe to land,
And Page took it gently in his hand.
Page wrote a “Beak Beats” song so strong
At the party, they all sang along!

Dandelion seeds danced the Glimmerwhirl,
Birds and fairies did the twist and twirl.
Dewdrops boogied, then popped with cheer,
Till tiny bubbles of fun appear!

The Fairies and the Grumble

Clancy hung over the little fence made of bark. He looked inside the round window of the wooden cottage. It was built against a tree with a roof made from leaves. The leaves were covered with beautiful, coloured flower petals. The sidewalls were overgrown with light green moss. It his friend Page’s house.

“Page” yelled Clancy” Are you there?” Page appeared in the doorway with a book in his hand. “Are you going to the fairy ball tonight, Page?” asked Clancy
“Maybe Clancy, you?”
“I hoped you would go with me. Loulette is coming. The others don’t talk much to me. I am too clumsy”. Clancy frowned and looked at his pointy shoes.

“Mm,” said Page “Why not. I will take my book, just in case I get a chance to read it. Come on let’s go.” Page packed the book in his backpack and opened the gate.

They followed the track between the 7 oaks. Page and Clancy carried little lanterns made from the petals of snowdrops attached to twigs. Inside the bulbs, danced some fireflies. They gave enough light so the fairies could see the pathway.

Suddenly Clancy whispered “shh, I hear something”. “Is it a dog”

“Worse, it’s a Grumble,” said Page “They are dwarf like creatures with long noses and long hair. Very grumpy. I have heard some fairies have disappeared after meeting them.”

“What should we do, Page?”.
"Let's climb on a branch to lookout for him." said Page. They both climbed up but didn't see the Grumble.

“Ah we are close to the 6^th oak. There is a secret path in the undergrowth of bushes. Come on.” Said Page, He jumped down and started to walk. He heard Clancy scream. Page looked behind him and saw Clancy hanging upside down, as if being held by a fishing rod.

“My shirt got hooked on a twig. Help me.” Clancy said.

Page run back and helped Clancy as the rumbling sound came closer. They had to hurry. Page started running while Clancy followed him. At the 6^th oak Page pushed some branches aside and suddenly a path appeared. An arch of bush covered the secret path. Page looked behind him. Clancy had fallen and the Grumble was near.

“Use your fairy dust” Page called.

Clancy looked a bit guilty. He had wasted all his fairy dust. The fairies were only allowed to use it in times of need as there was not enough around anymore. Page sprinkled some fairy dust behind his ear and whispered, “Lightning and thunder, fairy dust, do your wonder.” He spread his wings and flew up.

The Grumble had come up to Clancy and roared “rubbish, rubbish, I hate rubbish”. He scowled at Clancy. “You make this place look untidy” He swooped him up in his big paws. e Clancy’s little legs kicked.

Page tried to sprinkle some dust on Clancy but failed. He whispered, “I will be back. Stay strong!” Page flew quickly to the beehive behind the 7^th oak and called to the bees. “I need your help,” Page pleaded, “we have to save Clancy”.

The bees flew in formation behind Page, but the Grumble and Clancy had gone.

“Oh, how do we find them, I shouldn’t have left him alone.” A tear trickled down Page’s face.

Page sat down with the queen bee and discussed what they would do.

The queen bee said, “What about I send a group of bees in each direction.”

“Great idea” said Page.

Off they went. After half an hour they all came back. They had flown to the edges of the forest and seen nothing.

“Let us have a rest and then fly out again” said the queen bee.

Page walked up and down the path to help him think.

Suddenly he saw that the secret bush path was closed. He was sure he had opened it. Then he saw Clancy’s scarf. The maze in there is complicated and only fairies know their way around. They might still be in there, he thought. He hurried to tell the bees and explained where the exits were. They quickly flew out. At the Northern entrance, Page led the way in.

Suddenly he heard the Grumble. “Ok bees, you attack the Grumble and I’ll get Clancy,” he said. Slowly they flew up to them. The bees started to sting the Grumble. Page put some fairy dust behind Clancy’s ears and whispered,” Lightning and thunder, fairy dust, do your wonder” and they all flew off.

Page and Clancy said thank you to the bees and walked home as the fairy dust had worn off.

“What was the Grumble doing when we came to save you?”

“Well, the Grumble was going on about rubbish, so I said to him; I am with you. We hate rubbish as well and are here to protect the forest. You need me. I can help you tidy up some rubbish in the secret pathway.” The Grumble agreed, although he said I would go in the rubbish bag when finished”.

“Mm, clever, very clever,” said Page “and did you find a lot?”

We filled a bag with plastic, elastic, a fairy skateboard, a sword, a mouse tail, mail an more.

“Good job.” Page said.

“Just a shame we missed the party.” Clancy said.

“Yes, a shame. But the bees gave me a walnut full of honey so let’s have our own party.” Page said.

Fairy Dreams

Shhh… listen — do you hear the rustle?

Do you notice the huzzle and buzzle,

in the garden when it is spring,

with bugs, butterflies, and birds that sing?

But you are lucky, oh so indeed,

if you hear the pitter-patter of feet,

or the chitter-chatter from under a leaf

it’s the sound of fairies, you must believe.

I found a book fairy under a palm;

his name was Page, and he was calm.

Collecting words was Page’s must

he’d sprinkle them all with fairy dust.

Page gave each word a fairy sound,

like flutter flap flopsy fly around

that means “a ball for butterflies,”

and trippety tea is a party for mice.

At the party, the mice hold their pinkies up,

sipping tea from a flower cup.

And bug buddy buzzy bee

is a race club for bees ....and it’s free!

Page rides along on the back of a bee,

buzzzzing circles around your bed, you see.

He whispers words in your ear on his flight,

giving you beautiful dreams at night.

Spots and dots

Spots and dots

Chuck an old bug went for a walk and got stuck

Luckily he got help from a cute little bug

He asked little bug what he was doing here alone

"Oh" sighted little bug "I am always on my own"

The others don't like me because I haven't any spots

and you are only cool when you have lots of dots

Come with me little bug, where I live, dotless is the trend

Little bug looked surprised and became confident

He chatted and joked when they went on their way

A young bug heard his laughter and asked him to play

The two had great fun and became friends straight away

Little bug asked old chuck if his new friend could stay

"No he can't, at my place your friends spots will cause fear"

Does it so" mumbled little bug "than I will stay here"

"I like my new friend, about spots I don't care

I even wouldn't care if he had purple hair."

"That's fine" said Chuck and they went separate ways

Old Chuck the bug had a smile on his face.

Santa's beard

Santa’s Beard

One morning, after a deep, deep sleep,
Santa Claus heard a peep, peep, peep.
“Oh my,” he said, “that’s quite absurd
I think I’ve got a nest inside my beard!”

“Mrs. Claus, please take that bird away,”
He said with a frown and great dismay.
Mrs. Claus tried, but then got curious,
Why was the bird so quite furious?

Then next to the bird within his beard,
Eight wiggly, wobbly eyes appeared.
Four tiny chicks popped out with cheer,
And started squealing loud and clear!

“Oh Santa dear, I know what’s best
These chicks must keep their cozy nest.
But you can’t go out like that, you know,
That beard of yours will have to go!”

So Santa went and shaved his beard,
But Santa without one looked quite weird!
He bought a fake one, soft and curled,
And looked better than in the old world!

Now kids, if you give Santa’s beard a pull,
And find that it’s made of wool,
You’ll know the secret...believe my word
It’s because he had to save the birds!

A Kiwi Night Before Christmas

It was the night before Christmas, and all round the bach

Not a possum was stirring; not one we could catch.

We left on the table a meat pie and beer,

In hopes that Santa Claus soon would be here.

We children were snuggled up in our bunk beds,

While dreams of pavlova danced in our heads;

And mum in her nightie, and dad in his shorts,

Had just settled down to watch TV sports.

When outside the bach such a ho-ha arose,

I woke up at once from my wonderful doze.

I ran straight to the sliding door, looking about,

Jumped out on the deck, and let out a shout.

The fairy lights dad had strung up around the door

Let me see everything down to the shore.

And what did I see, when I took a peep?

But a miniature tractor and eight tiny sheep.

With a little old driver, his dog on his knee.

I knew at once who this joker might be.

He patted his dog, and in a voice not unkind,

Cried "Good on ya, boy! Now, get in behind!

"Now, Flossy! now Fluffy! now Shaun and Shane!

On, Bossy! on, Buffy on, Jason and Wayne!

Up that red tree, to the top of the bach!

But mind you don't trample the vegetable patch."

So up on the roof those sheep quickly flew,

With the tractor of toys, Santa and his dog too.

As my sister awoke and I turn around,

In through the window he came with a bound.

He wore a black singlet and little white shorts,

And stuck on his feet were gumboots of course;

A sack full of toys he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a postie just opening his pack.

His eyes right as paua shell - oh, how they twinkled!

Like an old tuatara, his skin was all wrinkled!

He had a wide face and a round, fat tummy,

That looked like he'd eaten lots that was yummy.

He spoke not a word, but got down on one knee,

And placed a cricket set under the tree,

A present for sis, one for dad, one for mum,

Then he turned and he winked and held up his thumb.

He jumped on his tractor, to his dog gave a whistle,

And away they all flew, as fast as a missile.

I called out "thanks," as he flew past the gate.

He called back: "Kia ora to all, and good on ya, mate."

Paradise Island

Paradise Island

Pssst — I played the most amazing game,
Come close, I’ll tell you its secret name.
I sailed to an island on a ship,
Where kids skate and skip without a slip.

On the island, I found a teepee,
Danced with Indians ’round a big old tree.
To their chief I said, “Tag—you’re it!”
He chased me with a spear but didn’t hit.

I also met Alice from Wonderland,
Joined her tea party, cup in hand.
We played with walking cards — Alice was better,
Even outshining the Mad Hatter.

Then some pirates threw me in the sea,
After Captain Hook played dice with me.
Peter Pan saved me from the sharks,
That was adventure—oh, what sparks!

With tiny Tinkerbell, I flew a kite,
Till Peter Pan brought me home at night.
I told Mum all the games I played,
She said, “Dreams are for bed. Now off — don’t stay!”

My dolls

What a mess these toys she dares to say

she, who has never time to play
I'll tell you this you Miss O midy
You are the one who makes this place look untidy

What a snobbery, a snobbery

to want to do away
with these dolls of me
I confine in them, I dine with them

I drink a cup of tea with them

They play with me, they pray with me
They are patient when I talk oui oui
I am their mother, teacher friend

They've got all that time with me to spent

avec moi, with me, with me
They cuddle hug and snuggle me
At night when I'm alone in my bed

They look so pretty and cute to me

They are my dearest company
my dolls my friends to be

The dancing frog

The dancing Frog

One, two three O'clock four O'clock rock

In Billie's garden lives a dancing frog

on rock 'n roll he is particularly fond

when Billie plays the guitar he jumps out of the pond

He plays "rock around the clock tonight"

Frog moves his hips to the left and to the right

The frog makes a nice big turn around

Then he hops in the air and down to the ground

The lady frogs think he is cool and fun

One day he decided to marry one

They had a big party and frog stole the show

He danced like Elvis Presley and he made a little bow

After the marriage his lady said "You hear,

No more dancing is that clear."

From now on you bring some flies on the table

and jump like a frog if you are able

But when Billie wakes up one day at night

He looks out of the window and sees to his delight

on a lily pad a fat frog shakes and twists

He went out with his guitar; frog can I assist?

Superman goes French

Superman goes French

Last week a rumour went through town

Superman goes French they said with a frown
Oh la la, bonjour and Au revoir he said
He holds a French stick and wears a beret

He uses the stick to hit the enemy on his head

but all what happens is he breaks the bread
In the wrong direction Superman flies

Because that French beret covers his eyes

Yesterday we saw him eating some Brie

With a French lady who called him Mon Amie
But that was before he dismantled a bomb in her flat

She wanted to distroy the world with that

Superman delivered her to the police

He saved the earth said a press release

Beret thrown away, rumour deleted
French stick eaten, mission completed

Make a Limerick

A kiwi on clogs

A kiwi on clogs

A kiwi went to a psychologist one day

Kia Ora, the man said can I help you in any way

The kiwi dropped a tear and looked very sad

I hope so, he sighted because I feel very bad

I come only out at night because I am very shy

I'm supposed to be a bird but I cannot fly

But look at the bright side the man said, you see

If you could fly you could crash into a tree

I guess so but there is more to tell you the truth

When they talk about a kiwi they mean a human or a fruit

When I would stand out, I wouldn’t be shy, I wouldn’t weep

The psychologist went quiet and thought long and deep

Eureka, he said I can make you special as such

Because that’s what I am I am not a kiwi I am Dutch

Now put on these warm woollen kiwi socks

Then step into my shoes. Now you’re a kiwi on clogs

The kiwi went clickety clock with a smile on his beak

He got lots of attention the following week

Even better he is on the front page of the Press

The lost doll

“Mum we must go back, please” I pulled on mums skirt but she just kept going. She must understand that it means so much to me I thought.
“It is getting dark, we will check it out tomorrow” mum said and then she send me to bed. I tossed and turned. Maybe it is going to rain and then she gets all wet and they might take her and I never see her again.
In the morning I was dressed and ready in 5 minutes. A record I think but mum was a bit slow. “Come on mum no time to lose” When we arrived at school, I ran to the big tree. I looked and looked. No doll. I felt my muscles tightening, my heart bouncing. What do I do? My mum approached. “She is gone” I mumbled
“We ask the teacher” mum said with a caring and loving voice. She took my hand and I just followed ,not able to think anymore.

“Mrs Jens, lizzy lost her doll yesterday” It was sitting behind the big tree and she forgot to take it home. It is not there anymore. The doll means a lot to her. She got it from her father who lives in Spain for his job”
“Why did you place it behind the tree?”
“Because her arm was loose and her clothes were ripped, some children kept teasing me about it, so I let Doll wait for me.” I felt two big tears wandering down my cheeks.
“That is not very nice” said Mrs Jenny, “we see what we can do”
That afternoon Mrs Jenny and me were making a poster together” I drew my doll on a big piece of paper and Mrs Jenny wrote together with me “Lost: doll with blond curly hair and a red dress. The doll’s left arm is loose. Please contact Mrs Jenny phone 244567”.
she copied it and then we hang the posters on the wall and outside.

For days I didn’t hear anything. I didn’t feel like talking much. I felt I lost the only piece of dad I had.
He had brought it from Spain. He had tugged it in his jacket and she just smelled like him
“Lizzie” Suddenly I heard my name and I staggered towards Mrs Jenny. “Lizzie I’ve got good news” A lady opposite the school has found your doll’ She is out of town for a few days but she will bring your doll in next Monday”
I jumped and screamed “Yeeh, Oops sorry Mrs. Jenny”
“That’s all right” she laughed
I kept myself busy till it was Monday. I told everyone, even if they weren’t interested, that my doll was found. The girls who had teased me said “You wouldn’t want to find a doll back like that” I was too happy to get angry

On Monday at 5 past 10 a lady came in. She looked very dressed up and posh. We all sat in a circle and I had to step forwards. The lady handed over my doll. The arm was fixed and doll had new clothes on. I stared at it for a minute. She looked so good. I whispered thanks to the lady and smiled at her.
“That doll is so pretty she deserves an award” Mrs. Jenny handed out an award. We’ve got something else for you.
Over the heads of the nasty girls, whose mouth hang wide open I saw the door opening and I couldn’t believe my eyes. “Dad, dad” I screamed as I ran up to him. I jumped in his arms and he lifted me up.
“Oh my little one, I am never going to leave you anymore”.
I looked surprised and then looked at the teacher. “Mrs Jenny explained to the class “This lady here found Lizzy’s doll and called me. I told her that Lizzie got the doll from her dad who lives in Spain and that she was so sad” The lady called Lizzy’s mum to get the number from her dad because she wanted to make some new Spanish clothes for lizzie’s doll and asked if he could sent her some pictures” The lady continued “Yes Lizzie’s father got in touch with me and got my son on the phone who is a business man. They had a long chat and my son offered him a job”
I jumped up the lady and hugged her. “Oh you have to thank my son, dear” My eyes were wet and I only could see clouds. My mum suddenly stood next to me. “We will have a party tomorrow and take care of your doll Lizzy. She brings luck”

Tongue twisters

Some tonguetwisters from Fox in Sock by Dr Seuss I just love it.

Through three cheese trees three free fleas flew.
While these fleas flew, freezy breeze blew.
Freezy breeze made these three trees freeze.
Freezy trees made these trees' cheese freeze.
That's what made these three free fleas sneeze.

When beetles fight these battles in a bottle
with their paddlesand the bottle's on a poodle
and the poodle's eating noodles......they call this
a muddle puddle tweetle poodle beetle noodlebottle paddle battle.

Daisy and Bo

Daisy and Bo

Squeak, squeak, squeak and eek

These are the sounds I heard all week

Can somebody possibly go to the shed

And get a can of oil for that pet

Sneeze, sneeze, sneeze, hatsjoe

I don’t get it, give me a clue

Daisy is allergic to hair they said

and she really, really wanted a pet

We went to the black smith for that matter

He welded a pet for her together

One that wouldn’t cause any sneezes

He made it from scraps and bits and pieces

For a tummy he used a cookie tin

He made a curly tail that you could spin

The antenna on his head is not for the show

It's for remote control that makes him go

Sneeze, squeak, sneeze, and squeak

Are the sounds I hear all week

Daisy, Daisy, I go crazy. One of you will have to go

That one is your pet, the one you called Bo

Daisy ran to the shed of the smith

Got the can and oiled the lid

It fell of the tin, a hairy mouse jumped out

He had some cookie crumbs on his snout

The sneezing stopped, the squeaking too

Daisy got crazy and shouted Yahoo

Happy as Larry our Daisy went

with Boo for a walk. What a happy end.

basking in the sun

Big brown eyes are looking at

the young ones who have fun

They topsy turvy tumble

Diving deep to catch a meal

than zoom up above the water

It's so good to be a seal
