Youth Leadership Graduation

Each year, Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce hosts a Youth Leadership for sophomore students different schools in Weirton and nearby counties. I'm glad our son have participated into it.

The organizations mission in hosting this event is to raise up and inspire youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle and to empower them to become strong leaders who will make our community a better place for everyone to live and work.

Selected student leaders were picked based from their GPAs and the essays they have written and submitted to the committee.

They attended a series of activities from around the city which includes a simulation of a real world as adults. They were put into situations where they have to make a decision and I think it's a great way for these kids to kind have a glimpse into how adulthood is.

The graduation was held in March 12 at Holiday Inn.

Each participants received a certificate of achievement and also given a college credit by WV Northern Community College.

Madonna High School had 7 student leaders who participated.

These boys are goof balls, glad they had a chance to attend this leadership training.

At first, our son did not want us to attend the graduation but upon learning that all parents of the students from his school, I insisted that we do attend. I did not want him to be the only one who didn't have parents there. I'm glad we attended.

Our daughter was not able to attend this leadership trainings because of pandemic but she was able to attend the business symposium.

Some of the students weren't present at the graduation but all of the MHS student leaders were there.

We were a little bit late arriving because we attended a mass (which I felt bad leaving without finishing it). I just wish that the committee did not schedule it at noon because some of us attended an 11-12 mass.

Our son is always anxious in attending events like this which really surprise me because he is well-liked by his peers. I think he got that trait from me, I feel that anxiety every single time I have to deal with people. What surprises me the most though is our daughter, she's shy in nature but when it comes to doing stuff like this, she shines, she doesn't back down and just do it like a champ.

I am grateful that my children have great friends like the Mascio girls. They have known each other since kindergarten and although they went to a different school in high school, I am glad they still keep in touch.

EJ's first homecoming date was his friend Rissy.

Both of our kids are really close in age with the Mascio girls so they are close to each other. So when EJ was getting shy of asking Rissy, the older sisters orchestrated the event for him.

I wanted him to go to HOCO on his sophomore year but he chose not to. It was fine though because we focused more on our daughter on her last homecoming.

I can't believe my youngest is now 16! Where did the time go? Wow, I can't believe how time gone by so fast. I still remember when they were little and can't get enough of us, now they are kind of have their own set of friends and different interests than ours so they do their own thing without us sometimes. With EJ though, he is a homebody, he prefers to hang out at home which I'm glad.

Our son is a happy-go-lucky guy and doesn't try hard in school but he is equally smart as our daughter. The only difference is that, she's more focused on her studies but he isn't. He remind me so much of my brothers who weren't into studying. Sometimes I worry but I have to remind myself that he is boy and he is young. He might change his attitude once he becomes an adult.

For his birthday, we took him to his favorite restaurant and had dinner with him. His sister had to work so she couldn't go with us, however, we all had dinner together from a different restaurant the day before.

I don't like comparing my two kids but sometimes I can't help but to do it to encourage our son to be more focused in doing things. Just like when our daughter turned 15, she immediately wanted a driving permit which she got right away. When she turned 16, she got her license. It took us a lot of convincing for our son to get his permit and I'm happy that he has it now coz he can start practice driving.

I just wish that he would not care too much of what others think of him especially his appearance. It makes me sad to know that despite him being outgoing more that his sister, he feels anxious about social interactions from time to time. Then again I can totally relate because I am the same way.

Hubby is definitely enjoying bonding with him in the gym. They work out together which is very special. Sometimes I feel lost of what they talk about but I'm very happy to see of how they have a special relationship as a dad and son.

Looking at this pic makes me miss when they were little but at the same time, I am glad that we get to witness every milestone in their lives.

It makes me happy to see both kids are growing up the way we want them to. We might not be able to provide them the best of things but we make sure that they are well loved by us and that they know how much we love them.

I love the fact that they are so close in age and they are very close with each other. At their age (17 and 16), they still go to our bedroom almost every night to talk before we go to sleep. I think it's very important for every parent to have an open communication with their children.

To my ever dearest EJ,

I am always grateful that you are such a very loving son and that God gave us a precious gift. We may not always give you the best of everything but know that we will always be there for you no matter what. Do not be afraid to explore and learn things. Soon, you will become an adult and I hope that we guided you enough to be a responsible one. We wish you all the best Anak.

Homecoming Parade

Everything that my daughter experiences in high school are all new to me. We don't have Homecoming Dance in the Philippines so I never knew what goes on with this kind of events. Anyhow, all the girls in my daughter's class was included in the parade since there's not many of them. I think it was awesome that they did it that way because all of them get to experience it.

We have a convertible Saturn Sky vehicle so it was perfect for the event. My son even ride with them during the parade. I was on the sideline of course, to take pictures lol.

Nearby local schools had theirs few weeks before MHS which was nice because it was still warm. I think Madonna should schedule it a little earlier too that way it's not cold.

My husband was happy to do his duty as a Dad accompanying his precious daughter. I thought that was very nice for him to be able to do it for our daughter, it's a special moment.

We ordered the banners that we put on the car.

Looking at my daughter makes me a little sad because this is her last year of high school, which means she will be gone to college in few months. I'm excited for her also because she has a lot going for her. Her hard work and dedication for her studies has been paying off. She has achieved a lot of things and we are so proud and happy for her.

These three girls have been friends since kindergarten. I'm so happy to watch the three of them grow and get very close with each other.

The homecoming took place in October of 2022 but I am just now getting the chance to write about it here on the blog. I know, my procrastination always gets in the way of writing the things right away but it's okay, as long as I have the photographs for the event's I'll be able to catch up.

Academy Training Day at WVU with Sen. Joe Manchin

On August 27th, we went with our daughter to West Virginia University so she could attend the Academy Training Day sponsored by Senator Joe Manchin. We thought she won't like it but she actually had fun and made friends with some of the participants.

They were given a passport that each booth has to stamp so they went around and talk to people. Some booth gave each participants some freebies like shirt and nerf ball but other's just packet of information. They were also given an official shirt that they have to wear for the entire duration of the event.

I was just on the sideline observing how my daughter was interacting with people. She talked to her Dad every time she finishes talking to people.

It's interesting to know that the army and air force national guard will pay you to attend college if you signed up for their program. I think it's a good option if you doesn't qualify for the academy or you don't have a plan after high school. If I was given this kind of opportunity when I was young, I would have definitely took it.

It's a little funny that every branch would tell you that they are the best option but I guess if you were there to recruit, you have to try really try hard to sell your pitch to a potential candidate.

My daughter attended the event with one of her classmate and friend from school.

She wasn't happy I was taking pictures lol.

Aside from meeting people from the local government and different branches of the military, they also did some physical training on the field.

It was such a great idea to attend the event because our daughter got a little taste of how it's like to be in the service. Although it was nothing compared to what it's really like in the military but it was a good exerience for her. It ignited her passion to join even more.

Hubby and I get to tour some parts of the West Virginia University Campus. It's unique how this school is set up, they are spread out all over Morgantown. Every Department has it's own campus, I've never seen anything like it.

Sen. Manchin couldn't attend but he had his staff there answering questions about nominations. I wish our son could have went with us. but it was a whole day event and he would have been bored to tears. It's good though that he stayed because he took care of our dogs.

Rhododendron Girls State: Graduation: Part 2

We went back to Davis and Elkins College the next weekend to attend the graduation ceremonies for the Rhododendron Girls State.

We can tell how physically exhausted our daughter was after a weeklong activities.

It was a nice ceremony and it seems like most of the girls had a great time.

Rhododendron Girls State is a great program, however, our daughter didn't enjoyed it as much but she was glad that she attended because she met friends that she still communicates with till this day.

They were given chords that they can wear when they graduate high school. It said that it was the first year that they actually gave the participants the chords which was nice.

As exhausted as she was, we expected that she wanted to go home after the ceremony. We did not attend the reception so she wasn't able to participate in photo session.

I am glad she let us take few pictures before we head out to the dorm and got her stuff.

Rhododendron Girls State: Part 1

June 12, 2022 - Our daughter went on a week-long event in Elkins, West Virginia. She was one of the attendees that represented Madonna High School to one of the prestigious leadership program for girls in West Virginia, the Rhododendron Girls State.

Established in 1941 under the sponsorship and direction of the American Legion Auxiliary Department of West Virginia, Rhododendron Girls State is a premier experiential hands-on program that focuses on citizenship and patriotism, and develops leadership and pride in American citizens, educates citizens about our system of government, instills a greater understanding of American traditions, and stimulates a desire to maintain democratic government processes within our republic.

She originally planned on driving there by herself but we convinced her that we wanted to go with her and accompany her because it was our first time not having her for a week without us or anyone that we know whose going to be with her. I am glad she agreed because I didn't know the main reason why then but I felt that she was going through some sort of an emotional issue. I won't delve into that in this post, but write another article for it.

Anyway, she wasn't sure about this event. I think she was anxious of meeting new people.

My daughter is like me, she isn't much into sharing story about personal issues so she didn't bring any military stuff that she could share (which was one of the activities they have to do). Again, emotionally, she wasn't invested in this event.

We helped her registered and settled in to her dorm before we left.

We told her that this is an avenue to overcome some of her anxiety issues in meeting and dealing with other people.

I gotta admit, I was more anxious of leaving her there lol. I just prayed that she would have a great time and that she would make friends with the other girls.

Our daughter is an introvert just like me so she hoped that she would get a room by herself. She told us later that night that her roommate did not show up so she was happy.

We hangout a little bit after she got settled in and then we left.

The event was held at Davis and Elkins College.

We have been to Elkins few years ago when we had our little road trip to show support to another West Virginia history bowl team from our kids school. We didn't know that we would be back again here but glad to see it again.

The view from my daughter's room was beautiful.

This was our first taste of separation anxiety. It's getting real everyday. I am glad that she is slowly spreading her wings but as a parent I also worry. I know that she will be alright on her own because she is very independent and mentally strong. This senior year is flying by so fast and its giving me severe anxiety. She will graduate here soon and will be on her own to find her own path in life.

Time flew so fast, just like that, our first born is seventeen! It's still very vivid in mind when we first dropped her off to school to start kindergarten. She was very excited to learn in a "big kid" school to continue what we have been learning at home on her pre-school days. I am a stay at home mom and I never left our kids to daycare except one night when hubby was still in the military and we had to attend a navy ball. We didn't have a choice not to leave them in the day care because we were in South Korea and we didn't have family there to look after them. Fast forward to many years, she is now in her Senior years, wow.

In previous years, we always timed our vacation on her birthdays but in the last couple of years, we didn't get to do that because of the pandemic. I am so glad that this year, we were able to. We spent her 17th birthday in South Dakota. We did visit several tourist spots on her birthday week. We did horse back riding in Custer, we explored one of the deepest cavern in Black Hills, went to Mt. Rushmore, visited the Badlands, went to see the Devil's Tower, and did and a lot more fun things while we were there.

It's kind of bitter sweet that her high school life is almost over. I feel like she didn't get to do or experience much that a normal teen would. She is always a silent type, very timid and keep to herself type kind of gal. She only have a few close friends that she interacts with. I feel bad that she got my introvert genes who feel stress out being in the crowd or going out in public. One thing that I am very proud of her though is that, she is a very goal oriented person. When she put her mind into something, she make sure to do well at it.

I was told that senior year will go very fast and it makes me sad to think that she will heading out to college or pursue whatever she wants to do with her career. She plans to get into the naval academy. She's bummed out that she didn't get to attend the navy summer camp because of the covid vaccine mandate. She wasn't vaccinated then, we thought that the navy will not require but lo and behold, it is mandatory which sucks big time. Now she has to be vaccinated if she wants to get accepted into the academy. We wanted to protect her from any kind of side effects since the vaccines were not properly tested then but it kind of hinder her path so we don't have a choice but to let her vaccinated now. It sets her back a couple of steps but at least we are sure now that the vaccine is safe. I still pray that this won't have an effect on her health in the future. Whatever it is that she would pursue though, we will be behind her and support her 100%.

As you advance through more serious things in life, I pray that God will continue to watch over you and guide you in navigating the rollercoaster ride of life. Remember always that no matter what, we will be here to support you and love you. We are so grateful for a young woman you are becoming. You make us proud in everything that you do. Thank you for setting a really good example to your little brother.

Our Daughter's Junior #Prom and Her #Date + her #EpicFall

Despite her epic fall, she had fun and that’s what matters…

Madonna High School had the Promenade yesterday. She was very excited and anxious at the same time leading to the Prom. The thing that she was nervous about happened, she fell! The steep stairs of the stage they had to go down to didn't do her long dress a favor but she recovered in a true #fashion. It reminded me of those #beauty #pageant moments when a contestant falls and come back up with smile in their faces.

She bought this sage green dress at Windsor. It's a little long but it fit her well. I was going to cut it and tailored it to her length but she said it's okay. It eventually caused her to fall. Her Dad cautioned her to pick up the trail of her dress coming down the steps coz she almost strep on it but I guess she didn't remember to do that coming off the stage.

I think it did taught every couple that followed them to lift the trail of their dresses and be very cautious in coming off the stage. It just unfortunate that she went first and fell. She said that they messed up the handshake routine and it made her nervous so she went down forgetting about her dress being long. I will say though that her being a volleyball player played a big role of her not face planting, she fell on her knees instead.

She went with Sonny, a new guy from their class who transferred sometimes in October from Iowa. He's a good-mannered kid, very respectful and he gets along with my son because they know each other from playing basketball in school.

She did her own makeup since I have no idea when it comes to make up and cosmetics lol. She watches YouTube tutorial videos on how to do these things. Her hair was done by Legal Hair and her nails was done by a nail salon.

They practiced some more with their handshake routine before we left home.

We had time so we took a lot of photos.

The white roses bouquet was gorgeous.

They wore a matching sunglasses which helped their vision blocked the spotlight that they shone when they were on the stage.

She wanted us to come with her when they went to her date's house where we met his Uncle and Aunt.

From there, we went to a friend's house where they took more photos.

Of all the photos, I think this one is my favorite.

I also love this one. They look very comfortable with each other. She said they had fun at the dance.

As they come out the school to ride the limo bus going to Oglebay where the dance would be, I managed to take few more shots of them.

Here is her epic fall caught on cam. There's a lot of Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda moments there but I think it's okay, it will surely go down as the most memorable of that whole Prom event. Not a good memory on her part but they can look back at it in the future and laugh about it. I am sure she's very embarrassed but she will remember this for sure. It taught her a lesson what to do on her next prom just in case she wear a long dress again and have to go down a stairs. Maybe next year, the set up will not be like this year though, it was dangerous in my opinion.

Winter Fun: Sled Riding

Our kids are just 18 months apart so they are super close to each other. They were often mistaken as twins when they were little. I am glad that we had them in such a close gap. It was tough but we made it through. These two are growing up so well and we can't ask for more.

We had big snows during the winter and they decided to go sled riding. I had to take these photos before they left since I did not go with them. Now that our daughter is driving already, they can pretty much go anywhere without us unless they need parental supervision.

They still opposes pictures being taken but I'm glad they let me from time to time. I think they will appreciate these captured memories when they are grown up.

Blake was still so little in these pics. It was funny watching him run around the snow and eats them as he dove in them.

Volleyball Season 2021

Another volleyball season has ended. Our daughter played both for the Junior varsity and the varsity team. I am glad that she had fun and gained more experience as a team player. I am going to miss watching her play when she finished high school.

Volleyball is fun to watch. I am glad that she wasn't working yet when the season is going on because it would be hard for her.

I am glad she had a fun season. We had fun watching too except those far places that they had to go to play.

She told us that she won't be playing sports in college but I'm hoping that she would play volleyball even in college.

Anyway, this season was so much fun to watch. She definitely improved her serves. This is her second season. I think she regretted that she didn't play during her freshman year.

Madonna High School's varsity team is losing 5 seniors next season so hopefully, there would be more that would join. They almost won the city championship, it was a very close game.

Junior Ring Ceremony #MHS23

My daughter's class had their Junior Ring ceremony last December 3rd, 2021 at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Another big milestone for our first born. There's no stopping her from growing, makes me so excited and at the same time sad that she is slowly slipping away from us. I'm excited to see what's in store for her in the future, I hope and pray that hubby and I are still around to see it. As long as we're still alive, we will be supporting whatever career path they choose.

Junior ring ceremony marks the transition of underclassmen into upperclassmen. Juniors are presented with their school rings, which symbolize their becoming the future senior class and the potential leaders of their school. The event holds more significance than the mere presentation of jewelry, it is one of the few important milestones of the students' high school life.

Since Madonna is a faith-based high school, the ring ceremony was held with a mass celebration with our parish priest. The rings were blessed before they are presented to the students.

One thing I love about Madonna High School is that, their learning is centered towards faith. Kids nowadays really need this kind of learning environment since there's just so many evils happening in the world.

Fr. Dennis really does a great job in guiding our students by professing the word of the Lord.

This event was held when the pandemic is still going on so they had to wear masks but I'm still grateful that they can do it despite the situation. They missed out on a lot of school activities because of Covid.

Ads of this writing, two of their classmates have left the school which makes me sad. Their class is getting smaller each year.

It's great to see the smiling faces of these youngsters.

I can't believe they are almost through with their Junior year. One more year and our daughter will head out to college. It makes me sad to think about it but glad that hubby and I were there to witness every milestones that our children experiences.

National Honor Society Induction Ceremony

The Madonna High School had their induction ceremony for the newest members of the Monsignor Murphy Chapter of National Honor Society on March 10th.

Although I worked at a catholic school before I came here, we didn't have this kind of ceremony there. We had recognition each year but National Honor Society is something very new to me. Glad our daughter is one of the inductees, I get to experience it too.

The program started with the procession of the inductees, then the lighting of different candles which includes knowledge, character, service, and leadership. Afterwards the history and emblem were explained.

Hubby and our son came home after the ceremony so we didn't get to take photos with them at the school.

I got to take pictures when the ceremony was over.

The senior members received their cords to use for graduation.

So what exactly the benefits for getting into the National Honor Society. This article explained it really well. It basically opens some opportunities for you in getting geared up for college. You get to be part of an organization and participate to conferences and other activities.

EJ's 15th Birthday

Here it comes, just like that and he's 15! How is this even possible. It feels just like yesterday when I gave birth to him wahh. I'm a little sad that they are growing up so fast but also glad to see them grow up. I wouldn't trade motherhood for any richness on earth. I'd choose them over gold! I love my life as a mom of these two . Aside from my husband, they are the best things that has happened to me. I'd be forever grateful to God that He blessed me with a wonderful family!

Having a daughter and a son is perfect. These two are the best kids that any parent could ask for and I am beyond blessed to be their Mom.

Anyway, since my son's birthday falls after Christmas, it is hard to find things that he likes. Luckily, his interest went back to cars again so I managed to get him some and also got him a car storage to display his collection. I also made a DIY project using some materials we have at home.

We used to travel on their birthdays but given the situation, we only went to Boardman and hang out for a little bit, it was fun though.

I'm glad we managed to have a little getaway even for just a day. It gave them a little something to do other than hang out at home.

I am glad that there's pingpong table at the mall, it's been a while since we play it.

Sadie’s Dance and Her Firsts

The Sadie’s Dance was cancelled due to the growing cases of Omicron and few numbers of sign up but the kids have already picked out their outfits so they had a get together to make up for the lost fun.

Our daughter is definitely growing into a woman. She had her very first date on March 5th with this guy who is taking her to the prom. Since, they don't really talk much in school, they need to get to know each other before the dance to break the awkwardness. It's an exciting phase of her life so we find it funny seeing her giddy when she talks. Hubby and I trust our daughter so we didn't see the need for a chaperone on her first date. Anyway, they were suppose to go bowling in our area but the one they planned to go to was close and the one in downtown has an hour wait so they drove to Toronto and bowled there instead.

Last Sunday, March 6th, we went to the Cathedral of St. Joseph and attended a collaborated reflection event by the catholic schools in the Upper Ohio Valley. It was nice watching the young generation come together through praise and songs.

Food and drinks were served after the event.

We actually went there thinking it was just a regular mass where our daughter has to read petition but it was actually more like a play.

I'm glad our daughter is not afraid to volunteer in this kind of activities because we get to experience it too.

A lot of things have happened but never get to jot it down. Our daughter started working a part time job at a fast food chain on February 23rd. She missed to watch her brother's city championship basketball game but she was excited to work for her very first job experience.

My husband was against her working but I think she needs to experience this. It's the only way she'll get a full understanding of real life situation by experiencing it first hand. I mean, I put myself through high school and college by being a working student and it taught me a lot.

She's still have a long way to go but I hope that she will be able to find a career path that would make her happy and stable.

She's a pressure player so she does well when she's super busy. Now that volleyball season is over, she coaches the little kids volleyball team at St. Joseph. she's also tutoring a Korean student online. I am so proud of a young lady she is becoming. She knows her priorities and she's super goal oriented.

Fun Night with Friends in the City of Bridges, #Pittsburgh

My daughter and her friends went on a fun night in Pittsburgh on November 20th last year. One of their friends missed the homecoming dance because of Covid so they went out and had fun with a style. They rode a limo to and from their destination. These group of kids have a strong friendship bond.

Glad they could go out and have fun given the covid situation.

These two don't want to be photographed anymore but when occasion such as this occurs, I always make sure to capture some despite their opposition lol.

Thought she looked beautiful in this simple green dress that we bought.

I love the booties she wore as well.

My first baby has definitely grown into a full grown woman.

She's almost done with her Junior year, in few more months, she'll enter senior year. Ahhh time flies!

A lot has changed and happened for the last couple of years but one thing is for certain, we love watching our children grow.

Tomorrow will be her first day of working part time. It's always exciting to do firsts.

It was light up night when they got together so it made it really especial.

Roaming around in the city of bridges during night time must be fun. I'm too old to do these stuff but glad that my daughter can experience these things.

Madonna HS Homecoming 2021 #HoCo2021

I can't believe how much time flies. Both of our children are now in high school and it's a joy to see them both get excited and dressed up.

This year's homecoming at my children's school was a little different than the past few years. Instead of having the dance at an out of school facility, it was held at the school's gymnasium. Students have their choices to go wherever they choose for dinner. My son's date and his friends went to William's Country Club and my daughter's date and their friends went to Ditka's.

We got our son a new suit at JosABank. I think he cleaned up well.

Rye chose a satin light purple almost pink dress. She actually bought two dresses, the other one is purple which was my pick but she wore this one.

Her date is Anthony Arnold, a close friend of hers since kindergarten. They been going on hoco for 3 years and we liked it because we love Anthony, he's a really good kid, I mean young man.

EJ asked his close friend Marissa, they went to school together at St. Joseph since kindergarten although they go on different schools in high school. Her family is a close family friend of ours which makes us very happy that they went to the dance together.

She looked stunning and I think they look great together. I love where his class went for dinner because the view there is gorgeous. Too bad it was raining when they were about to take pictures so they didn't get to have more photos taken outside. I was still very weak so I let my husband be in charged of the taking photos. I forgot to tell my son to removed the plastic of the bouquet before he gave it to Marissa. Oh well, lesson learned for my son not to forget about it next time.

They took group pictures inside despite the manager telling the parents not to take pictures inside. There's nothing they can do though, it was raining outside.

Rylie's friends went to one of her friend's house and take some photos before they went to dinner at Ditka's.

The kids said that it was a lot of fun. My daughter even said that, it was way better than the previous years.

Career Paths for Teachers

Sweet 16: Time Flies!

Our daughter turned 16 this year, time really do fly fast! I can't believe she's a Junior now. I don't even want to entertain the thought of her graduating from high school. I don't think I am ready emotionally lol. When she started driving, I was thinking to myself, did I really gave birth to her (lol). I am glad she's not like me who is scared of driving, she's courageous and very cautious.

Anyway, when it comes to creativity, I lack of it, big time! I am not like many Moms who has so many creative ideas when celebrating their children's birthday. In fact, I am the most boring Mom in the world, in my opinion ha ha. But that doesn't mean, I don't love my children, oh I DO, they mean the world to me! I just don't have that talent or skills of being creative.

Anyway, I only made her mini pancakes for breakfast and decorated our eat-in kitchen windows a little and that's it. I am happy though that my children doesn't really care much for elaborate stuff. I am glad that they are content with our simple ways of showing our love to them.

I am happy that we raised them that way.

A friend of mine offered to take her pictures at Oglebay Park, which I am grateful. Our daughter had fun doing the photo shoot. If you want a fun shoot for your pictures, you can lookup Turquoise Sunset Photography on Facebook or online. She's an awesome photographer.

I am glad she chose this place because it's been years since we've been here last. We did drive around during tennis matches few years ago but we didn't really explored much. Glad we were able to walked around while the photoshoot is going on.

I just took some snaps of her while she was posing for the photographer. I am a little sad that both of my kids are not fond of being photographed anymore. I miss those days when they would literally asked me to take pictures of them. Now that they are teens, my photo taking chances have been limited and they also don't want them posted on social media lol.

At 16, my daughter have so many opportunities that I never had growing up. It makes me happy that they have these privileges, thanks to my husband's undying support.

I hope that whatever path they take as they delve into adulthood, they will succeed in it. I do believe that my daughter will as she's very focused and determined. She has the work ethic to achieve whatever she sets her mind into.

I can only hope and pray that I will live long enough to see them have their own families and be successful of whate3ver careers they choose.

Dearest Rye Bean,

As you turned 16, I pray that God will always guide you and give you strength.

Graduation Reception at Holiday Inn #Class2021

Just like our daughter's graduation a couple of years ago, our son's class graduation reception was also held at Holiday Inn where the food was catered by Undo's Restaurant. I am grateful that we could gather together at this important milestone without the Covid restriction.

Our daughter got to reconnect with her former classmates and closefriends.

This definitely brought back great memories from their class two years ago.

I am also glad that one our son's close friend, Rissy, came back to St. Joe's on their last year.

My daughter is such a Daddy's girl.

I am glad that these kids are close to each other that even if they go their separate ways during high school they will remain friends.

I don't like what the media is doing to the young generation nowadays. They are brainwashing most of these kids and that worries me. I scolded my kids one time when they were talking about something that they believe is true but it's not. I am worried that when they go ton college, they will be influenced and be radicalized which is scary.

For now, we can still contain them in a safe environment but when they go out, it concerns me.

Our world is totally different now. With all these radical ideas circulating around, it's no wonder the young generation are the easy target of these so called world leaders. I feel like it's no longer safe no matter where you go.

I am happy though that my kids still listens to us and that we can tell them with our beliefs. It's super hard to control what they see online.

My son doesn't want his pictures taken most of the time but I am glad that he was up for it during the graduation, it's a happy day to celebrate with his friends.

EJ told us that he isn't getting any awards like his sister did two years ago but he actually had some.

So happy I could capture this exciting times of his life. He is anxious about going to high school but I think, he will do just fine.

We didn't get to take pictures before leaving home so we took some when we came back from the reception.

This was the last time we had the chance to take pictures with our dog, Bolt. He was always ready to pose with us. Even when he was sick, he posed with us in these pics.

This is one of the many things I will miss about Bolt. His mild demeanor and being chill all the time.

These two always goofs around, glad they can have fun together.

Looking at these photos makes me miss our dog even more, it makes me cry.

I can't believe how tall my son got.

I always save the flowers that they bring home. It's a great keepsake even when its dried out.

Like his sister, he also go the President's Award for outstanding academic excellence.

I am happy to have both of our children graduate from St. Joseph the Worker School. It's a great primary school in the area. Thank you once again to Mrs. Fuscardo, our awesome principal, and her whole stuff. Thank you to Fr. Dennis for leading not only the children but also the staff and the parents to a great path of Catholicism and lastly thanks to God Almighty for allowing us to send our children to a school that values God and religion. We will begin another whole adventure in Madonna High School. May God continue to watch over us and guide us.

Our #Son, EJ's Graduation from St. Joseph

It was May 26th when St. Joseph the Worker School had the graduation. I am glad that they get to do the ceremony and that the Covid restriction was almost over. His class definitely missed a lot of good opportunities because of the pandemic but I'm thankful that the school had a good system that got through the whole situation. It was tough having to do cyber classes but glad that the teachers at St. Joseph stepped it up in making sure that the kids didn't miss out on learning.

EJ's class didn't get to go on Washington DC trip nor had the opportunity in competing for the History Bowl but it's okay, the most important thing was they were healthy and wasn't affected by the flu. I am also glad that before the pandemic fully erupted, my kids and I were able to participate on the March for Life in DC so that made up his missed opportunity in going to DC although we didn't get to do much but it was a great experience for my kids and I.

We bought him a new pair of suit at JoS. A. Bank at Ross Park Mall. He doesn't like wearing suit but I think he look great on it. He like the color purple so we got him a purple tie. We found him a new pair of shoes at DSW. I can't believe how much this dress shoes cost! However, it's worth every penny because he said it was very comfortable on his feet.

It was raining hard when the Baccalaureate mass was held. My husband drove him at church first so they could have their picture taken. They didn't get the chance to have their class picture taken but glad they were able to have their graduation picture taken.

He is growing up like a weed. I am the shortest now in our family and I think EJ will be taller than his Dad here pretty soon.

I am one happy Momma. Hubby and I thank God for guiding us in sending our children to a good catholic school. We had successfully have them finish catholic education in the primary and now in secondary education too.

He was trying to make me do what he's doing in this pic but I couldn't get myself to do it lol.

I wish my husband would have stayed inside the church after the mass so we could have taken at least one family picture together.

Okay, here's a pic of these two doing what teenagers do lol. I am not even sure what you call it but I am sure they will get a good kick out of this when they look back to it when they are older.

Most of the times, my kids were mistaken by people who don't know them as twins. That's probably because they are close in age. I am also glad that they are very close with each other.

I finally got to have a good and normal picture of them in this photo below.

I would like to thank the whole St. Joseph staff for a job well done in teaching the kids not only academically but most importantly is their guidance in each kids morally and spiritually.

It is true that sending your kids to private schools is costly but we don't regret that decision because the kids don't have to worry about bullying issues. These kids grow closer to each other which is a living proof that they are guided well in the school.

Fr. Dennis is a really good leader and a great example for the kids. I am thankful that he is leading Madonna and St. Joseph.

I am glad these boys transferred from St. Paul's to St. Joe's, my son would have been the lone boy at his class if they didn't. My son was the only remaining male in his class of the original St. Joseph kids who enrolled since kindergarten.

Some of these kids will go to other schools but I think they will always remember the great memories that they have at St. Joseph.

I have two high schoolers this year. The tuition is expensive but we don't mind paying for it. Both of them got a small scholarship and that helps a little too.

I get to finally catch up with some posting (for birthdays, at least). I still have so many events that I need to work on especially that I don't print pictures anymore. I would like to have it at least here on my blogs so that when the kids wants to look back, they will have something to reference to.

For the past couple of years, we were not able to do anything for the kids birthdays but I am glad they don't make fuzz about it. They are very understanding of the situation we were in.

Our son turned 14 this year and he is definitely growing. He is taller than the ladies of this family and I think that he will be taller than my husband in just a matter of time. He is also in that phase where he doesn't like his picture taken and every time I do take pictures, he always ask me not to post it on social media. This blog is an exception though since not many people knows about my personal blogs. He just doesn't want his friends to see what he is up to.

We got him an ice cream cake. I made him a set of birthday pancakes for breakfast. Unfortunately, the photos i took of him were in my phone and my cellphone have reached its maximum data and no longer allow me to do anything with the photos.

Dearest EJ,

My wish is for you to grow up well.

I pray that God will guide you along in achieving your dreams.

Our Daughter's 15th Birthday: A Year Later

As the saying goes, "Better late than never" , I am just now posting my daughter's 15th birthday. I didn't have a functioning gadget last year so I couldn't download the pictures in my camera and I wasn't able to post anything (valid excuse lol).

Anyway, I am not the most creative Mom so my kids birthday celebration is always plain. I tried though, I made her some mini pancakes to make the number 15.

She was appreciative of it so that's what mattered. In the previous years, we would always go on a vacation right around her birthday but since there was the pandemic last year, we couldn't go anywhere. Our plan was to go to the Philippines but was put on hold.

I am glad that my kids are very understanding of the situation and they don't complain for not having a party or something like that.

After her birthday, she took her written exam for her driving permit. She passed and my husband started teaching her how to drive. She is a quick learner.

This post is a year later so at this time, she already have her license. I can't believe how much our insurance have gone up since we added her to our car insurance, wow.

I am so happy for a young woman she is becoming. She's one smart cookie and very goal-oriented. She work hard for whatever she wants to achieve until she gets the result.

She has been the class president since her freshman year. She wants to build up her portfolio with extra curricular activities.

Our daughter enjoys simple things so whenever it is her birthday. She gives us a list of things that she likes and we we get it for her.

Dried mangoes is one of the goodies she always enjoys.

She definitely has half Asian in her with the choices of fruits that she likes.

Since she is a little lady already, I got her a beauty set.

To my 15-year old Rylie Bean;

I am sorry for slacking off, for not being up-to-date.

Just know that Mom records every milestone in her heart.

Having you as a daughter is such a blessing.

Continue to strive hard and aim high.

Sweet 16

It's amazing watching your children grow and they grow very FAST! This is the main reason why I don't regret giving up my career because I get to be there to witness every milestone of my children. I am beyond blessed to have a husband that fully support that decision. I fully believe that the presence of the parents in the growing up stage of the children is very crucial.

Having said that, I am grateful for a wonderful young lady our daughter has becoming. She is one smart cookie. She is not as outgoing as her brother but she spends most of her energy in achieving her goals. I am certain that she can achieve whatever she puts her mind to.

I remember when I was just teaching her at home how to read. We did not send her to preschool, I had a hard time thinking of sending her to school that early so we have decided that I would just teach her the basic things that she need to learn before she goes to kindergarten. I think that was the best decision because she can read, write, and do simple math problems when she entered kindergarten. She was a quick learner.

She is very driven. When she wants to work on something, she put her 100% on it. This year, they were given an opportunity to take the ACT and she was nervous about it but for a first timer with no preparation whatsoever, she did really well. She scored a composite of 30 which is excellent. You can tell, Madonna High School has a really good English teacher as our daughter ACED it, she didn't miss any. She scored 36 out of 36 in English, I am so proud, I could cry ha ha.

We lost one of our dogs this year, which used to be her best pal in pictures. I am glad that our Jack Russell Terrier, Champ, played along and I got to take some photos of them in our backytard.

She will be taking her Driver's license test in two days and she is nervous about it. I think she will do just fine. She has been driving us all over the place, even out of state. She's definitely not like me in that department. I have been a licensed driver for 14 years and I have driven only twice lol.

I pray that God will continue to watch over her and guide her for everything that she does.

She is such a really good example to her brother and that's why her brother love his Ate very much. EJ is very proud of what she have accomplaished so far.

Today, she chose to do volunteer work at the vacation bible school. She's been doing this since she was 12. I think that is admirable, spending your birthday doing charity work. I am one proud momma.

I am glad that she is level-headed and remain strong. She can be a little opinionated sometimes but that's a good thing. I love that my kids speaks their mind in a respectful way.

In two years time, she will be heading out to college. I don't even want to think about her leaving home wahhh. Right now, she is leaning towards medical profession. We will see if she doesn't change her mind.

I hope and pray that you continue to grow beautifully inside and out. Dad and I are so blessed to be your parents. We will always be here for you, to support whatever path you want to take. Thank you for being such a wonderful daughter. For making our lives colorful and meaningful. Tank you for guiding your brother. My kids are Scholarship Recipients

Below is the essay my daughter wrote for the Joe Krivak Tuition Scholarship Fund entry. She won $500 tuition fund that she can use for the next school year.

Being a Follower of Christ and a Leader in the World
On many occasions throughout my time in high school thus far, I have been prompted to
nish the phrase “Here at Madonna, we are...”, to which I routinely give the response, “Followers of Christ, Leaders in the World.” I hear this line time and time again: in school over the loudspeaker when the morning announcements are read, at church as the weekly Mass is concluded, and even at home, when it is repeated in a phone call from the school oce. Though the phrase may simply sound like a catchy motto, its signicance to me is very profound; it represents the way that, through being a member of the Madonna family, I have developed and strengthened both my role in the church as a follower of Christ and my position as a leader not only in the school, but also in my community and in the world.
Because of my experiences at Weirton Madonna, I am able to acknowledge that being a Follower of Christ involves more than just attending Sunday mass, reading the Bible, or praying beforebedeachnight. Tome,beingaFollowerofChristasapartoftheMadonnafamilymeans that instead of simply living my life with God in it, I strive to live my life for God. At Madonna, every school day, sports practice, extracurricular activity, or community service project that I attend is an opportunity for me to continue living for God and furthering my relationship with Him. Madonna High School has allowed me to enrich my faith life in many ways; from volunteering at local soup kitchens to donating to clothing and food drives to altar serving or proclaiming the readings at Mass, being a part of the Madonna family has helped me live my life while fully glorifying and following Christ.

Also due to my experiences at Weirton Madonna, I have come to understand what being a leader in the world means. Though being a class president, a team captain, or a club ocer are great ways to lead, I have learned through Madonna that anyone can be a leader. To me, being a leader in school, in our community, and in our world means taking charge to make a dierence or make a positive change in someone or something. The change we bring about is made even more impactful when we lead others to follow suit. Being a leader through Weirton Madonna means standing for your beliefs and building up those in the world around you to do the same.
As I continue to be a part of the Madonna family today, tomorrow, and the days after that, I will continue to hear the same one phrase. It is when I listen to “Here at Madonna, we are...” that I am reminded that everyday is an opportunity for me to live my life for God and lead others to make a dierence in the world, a day to be a Follower of Christ and a Leader in the World.

My son was also awarded a $250 scholarship for being a master of ceremony as a server at church masses. Sending both of them to Madonna High School which is a catholic school is expensive and this would help a little bit. At least it could pay for their uniform and supplies. I am very proud of my children for trying their hardest to maintain their good grades in school.
