Sending Thank You Cards After a Party

Chances are that most of us today are leading very busy lives. We spend our days tackling our to-do-lists, and sometimes it seems as though we can’t make a dent on those lists! Amidst the mayhem, it’s easy to forget or not have the time to sit down and write out those Thank You cards for your child’s birthday, baptism, or your baby shower. Friends and family take out the time to be a part of our special events though, so it’s important that we make the time to express our gratitude. Although hand written thank you notes are always a special treat to receive, I think nowadays people understand life’s hectic pace and appreciate other forms of thank you.

The Eco Friendly Birthday Party

I once read that when you have children your every move and word is recorded. Kids are sponges, and although we may not realize it, they are paying attention to everything we say and do. When you stop to think about it, the scope of influence we have on our children is daunting! Factor in our busy lifestyles and it can be hard to reach a balance between what we should be doing and what we are doing.

Baby Shower Games

Somehow through the years, I’ve become the “game girl” at baby showers. By this I mean I’m usually the one organizing and doing the games. I think it’s partly due to the fact that since I have a large family and big circle of friends, I’ve attended so many baby showers. I don’t mind doing it though, having games is great for many reasons. They are good icebreakers, they make guests feel welcomed since you’re engaging with them directly, they help keep the pace and energy up at showers, and most importantly they are FUN!

LaTISM Conference

I recently had the pleasure of attending the Latinos In Social Media (LaTISM) conference in New York City. LatISM is an organization comprised of Latino leaders in the areas of Marketing, Public Relations, Blogs, Twitter, and every other social media imaginable. This group was talented, smart, and passionate. How inspiring they were and how proud I felt of my fellow Latinos! They were generous with their time and thoughts, and interacting with them re-sparked the flame within me.

The Goody Bag

My son’s 1st birthday is in a couple of weeks. I can’t believe my baby boy is already turning 1, where did the year go?! I’m sorting out what to do for the goody bags. I have some ideas, but since there are 30 kids attending his birthday party, cost is a factor. As a kid, I remember getting goody bags filled with candy and the proverbial party toys. Nowadays it seems as though the gift bag has become a more important part of a child’s birthday party. I took an informal poll and asked some people: What do you think is an appropriate amount to spend per bag? How would you feel if you attended a party and the host skipped on having gift bags? These were their responses:

Start Times On Invitations

Some of us have family members and friends that are notorious for being chronically late to social events. Many times they miss the highlight of the event, or even worse, the function can’t start until they arrive. Understandably, this can cause the host and guests to feel frustrated, angry, and disappointed. After all, the host has taken the time to plan a wonderful birthday party, baby shower etc. for the guests to enjoy. The other attendees have planned out their day to ensure they arrive on time. It throws everyone off course! This got me to thinking….is it ok to state an earlier start time on an invitation to avoid the issues encountered when people arrive late?
