It is a book for parents whose children refuse to go to sleep! I was shocked to find that some reviewers, apparently completely forgot to read the title of the book before purchasing. Subsequently, they also seem to have been horrificly ambushed by the fact that they have absolutely no sense of humor. For those parents who do have a sense of humor and who may not find profanity particularly offensive and who live in the real world. And have real kids. This book is definitely a 3am win!That being said...This is a totally F-ing amazing book! It's real, overworked, frustrated beyond belief, about to loose your mind at 3am, inner parent monologue. I originally bought it for a friend who was having some serious issues getting her little one to sleep. She called me after one particularly rough night & thanked me profusely for giving her the book. I guess it's nice to know that you're not alone in your child's bedtime st ruggles. It may not actually be all your fault and you may have a relatively normal child & are not in fact a horrible parent. A little laughter, and vulgar support, can go an awfully long way. I've since given it as a gift many times. I plan on continuing to gift it as long as the people around me continue to not learn from the couple before them and keep having babies. Who then refuse to sleep. And so on & so forth.*If you haven't already you MUST Google the celebrity reads of this book! Jennifer Garner & Samuel L. Jackson are laugh out loud funny. Samuel L. Jackson should narrate a book for every single stage of life, from being born to the grave. We'd come in & go out laughing! This book is one that will be shared from one exhausted, fed up, delusional, red eyed, sleep deprived parent to another. 'Cause sometimes all you can do is F-ing laugh. At yourself and at each other. Also, the pictures are really beautiful. Ready for some adult humor, that will tickle most parents funny bone? Well, this little book is for you! Our son, now an adult, was the worse little offender at bedtime. His reluctance to sleep was legion in our extended family, so much so that the only time we received a good night's rest, was on the rare occasion when we had him spend the night with our relatives. I gifted the book to another parent, presented a copy to my son, and shared with one of my coworkers: the laughter was immediate and continuous. Honestly, some of the rhymes were not the best that could be imagined, but the use of such colorful language, in this context was hilariously surprising. I am reminded of someone like Betty White swearing on SNL; you will most likely be smiling now if you recall the moment! Be forewarned: if you are offended by earthy language, or the use of such language in regard to the sleeping habits of kids, this book is not for you. My grandmother, for example, would not apprecia te Mr. Mansbach's book. But if you are open minded, have a funny bone and suffered through your kiddo's unwillingness to get to bed, you will find this little book a real treat! Enjoy!!!

I didn't look at the reviews until after I bought Born a Crime and read it for myself. While reading the 1 star reviews, out of curiosity, I was shocked at some of the negative reviews. Life in third world countries is different than what you would experience in America or other developed countries. Culturally they have beliefs, behaviors, and/or customs that may be considered weird or ugly to those who are not familiar. In my opinion, I believe Trevor Noah wrote wonderfully. He was completely transparent with his feelings, thoughts and experiences as a child growing up in an abusive third world country under apartheid and the aftermath. One reviewer spoke of a horrific animal situation (it was terrible and I do not support animal cruelty of any sort) but you have to remove yourself from it. If you are mad because he didn't respond the way YOU wanted, obviously there is a lack of understanding of his situation in life (I am not in anyway saying it was ok but it is a product of his environment). He was writing about his thoughts (he had at that moment), as a child growing up in a culture/society with ugly thoughts about that particular animal (I'm attempting to not give away any part of the plot while writing this). He was a product of his in environment and if he was taught something else maybe he would of had a different reaction at that time. I thought about giving the book a 5 star but I noticed all the existing reviews so I decided to reach those who would read the negative reviews, like myself, before purchasing a book. I thoroughly enjoyed Born a Crime. There were times I laughed. Times where I was utterly shocked. And a time when I got a bit emotional. Trevor Noah did a great job explaining the horrors of domestic violence and the lack of protection for women and children that still exists all over the world today. The nonexistent opportunities for children of poverty in third world countries especially regarding education. Being in an i nterracial marriage in America, I CANNOT fully understand what it must of been like for Trevor Noah's parents or as a mixed child growing up in such a hateful yet separated society. This is just my opinion. Take it for what it is. I don't review a lot of books anymore, but this one got to me. There are lots of books written by people -- including me -- who had a hard time growing up. Abusive parents, poverty, oppression. War. There is a lot of awful stuff children endure.Trevor Noah endured all of it. Name something bad that a kid can experience and it probably happened to him. Born under apartheid, his existence was illegal. His birth was, as the title of his book suggests, a crime.As the child of a white father and a black mother under South Africa during apartheid, if he had been noticed by the authorities, they would have taken him from his family and put him ... somewhere. So merely surviving until the end of apartheid was no mean feat. Add to that extreme poverty, violence and life under the most oppressive, racist regime you can imagine. Actually, you may not be able to imagine it. I knew it was bad, but South Africa refined oppression into an art form.One of the other noteworthy things about this book was that I learned great deal about things I thought I already knew. I don't know if Noah intended it as a cautionary tale, but it is. Chilling.I didn't read the book. I listened to the audiobook because Noah reads it himself. He has a beautiful, melodic voice and a lovely cadence. It was a treat for my ears and my brain.You might think with all of this terrible stuff -- and some of it is really horrific -- that this would be an angry, possibly embittered man. But he isn't.He's funny when humor is possible. Even when he's serious, there is grace and wit -- plus a sweetness and generosity of spirit that's rather uplifting. I don't think I've ever said that about a book. It's not a word I use lightly. Trevor Noah is a rare person, able to appreciate the good stuff in his life and not obsess over the considerable amount of injustice he has experienced.I'm not usually a big fan of celebrity memoirs or autobiographies, but this is exceptional. If you have the patience, listen to it as a n audiobook. Otherwise, consider reading it. He's a smart guy, a good writer, and an astute observer of humanity, government, politics, and relationships. Insightful, witty, and entertaining, I highly recommend it.

Basically I have the artistic ability of a remote control LOL I have always wanted to learn how to write in a pretty way. Iâve tried official classic calligraphy and that was a nightmare. But then I started seeing a lot of stuff on Instagram and online about hand lettering and a new way of doing calligraphy. So my interest was definitely piqued. After quite a bit of research I found this book online and immediately bought it. I think this book is good for somebody like myself. A beginner with or without artistic talent. I bought myself a âTombow beginNer â Kit with pen, pencil, eraser, etc. I also got myself a notebook that I could practice in. I must say I became particularly motivated after realizing I could do this. While Iâm not going to post any images because nobody needs to laugh that hard. LOL I believe with some practice I can be kind of good. I could make pretty envelopes, make signs, etc. etc. goodness knows I will never have a career or 1 million followers on Ins tagram for my lettering skills, but itâs nice to learn something new and put the creative side of my brain to work. If you want to learn about lettering and hand calligraphy, amp up the way you write/draw your letters, further your skills, etc. this book is quite useful. If you are more advanced you might not get as much out of it. It may be a tad bit of a disappointment if you are definitely advanced/more creative than somebody like me LOL But it would definitely make a good gift for somebody who has shown interest in lettering/calligraphy. I was going to buy the e-book version but for something like this I really like having the book right there in front of me. Plus there is practice space in the book. After Iâve used up that space I go onto my grid styled black-and-white hard covered notebook. I like keeping everything in one notebook so as to watch my progression or regression if I wait too long in between practice sessions. So practice practice practice thatâs the only wa y to make it to Carnegie Hall and thatâs the only way to become a lettering guru!This company also puts out other books that are quite awesome I just got this book today and Iâve been having so much fun!! I think this book is an amazing deal for just $7! I havenât gotten my brush pens yet so Iâve just been doing simple hand lettering with a mechanical pencil. Still super fun! Hat I recommend, and I didnât do sadly, is to take pictures of the pages before you start writing in them or scan them so you can print them out and use them again if you want. Personally I forgot to do this but I donât think itâs 100% necessary anyway because you can always get an extra notebook and trace! Anyway, am loving this book so far!

The colors and writing were perfect. Mines came with a small smudge like of hand cream but I got it off quickly with windex. FYI sprayed the windex on the paper towel not the notebook and passed it gently over the cover. It is a matte finish but the colors look vibrant and the notebook looks great. The lines inside are college ruled. It is a gift for teacher appreciation day and I think the recipient will love it since it contains a heart felt message on the cover. This was a perfect touch to the gift bags my daughter gave all her teachers as she was leaving the 5th grade. They truly loved them.

As someone who has what she would consider a fairly successful marriage, I was also curious to see what these two had to say about relationships.I think the core principles of this book are things that anyone could agree on, regardless of their faith and beliefs. 1) Communication is key. 2) Marriage is hard work. 3) You should get to know someone before you actually marry them. 4) Complacency is very dangerous to a marriage. Hearing their love story and the struggles they went through as a long distance couple reminded me of the first year my husband and I were together. We spent our entire first year apart with me being in NY and him being in SC. We saw each other in person every 2-3 months but most of the time was spent in totally different states. This forced us t o learn how to communicate with each other right off the bat, and I think our marriage is stronger because of it.Where I think the Roloffs lose a lot of people is the constant talk of Christianity. I understand and admire that God is a big part of their life and their marriage, but I honestly believe if they toned it down just a bit that their overall message would be heard so much louder and clearer. The overall message of this book is a great one that many people could learn from, but I think the Roloffs are isolating themselves to a specific fan base by constantly talking about God. It is entirely possible to live a âlove letter lifeâ without Jesus being a part of your life. I donât think one way is better than the other, and I donât think the Roloffs do either honestly. They seem like good, honest, caring people. Unfortunately there are a few times the book comes off as a bit preachy.Regardless, this was an easy read with an excellent overall message. There would be le ss divorce in this world if people actually abided by some of these principles instead of rushing into marriage. My curiosity about how other people live their lives would probably prompt me to read another book by them as it was much better written than I anticipated. However, if you are not a religious person or if you are easily offended by people who talk about religion a lot, this is not the book for you.

This vendor is NOT selling the publication of Rilke's book, but has gotten the text and laid it out (probably with MS Word, horrible for layout) and done a cheap printing of it. Am I going to return it? Probably not, only because it's more effort to pack it, take it to the P.O. and mail. But I'm very angry about this book, I do publication layout professionally, and am an editor, so the extra spaces between words, the dropped punctuation, and visually awful layout is an abomination to Rilke's work. I know how they did it: they stripped the text out of an e-book, put it into Word and left-aligned, never proofed it, and sent it to China to be printed. Monstrous. Never buy from this outfit. Whatever kind of writer or creative artist you are, Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet is a voice worth listening to. The letters were written in the early 1900s when Rilke was about 30 years old. He wrote ten letters to a young poet named Franz Kappus, offering not only advice but a philosophy on how to cultivate the creative spirit. As a fiction author with three novels out, I often get discouraged. We writers know that art and struggle go hand and hand. Iâve read all the pep blogs about following your passion and keeping the faith, recognizing the common Van Gogh blues, blah, blah, blah. Rilkeâs book is such a refreshing look at why a person writes at all. He addresses doubt, loneliness vs solitude, love, and patience. This is probably one of the most impressive of books Iâve read on this subject. The thoughts in this little 100-page book is a true source and one to keep on the night stand. I love to open a page at random and see what Rilke has to say to me for the day. Page 61 told me this morning that âWe must embrace struggle. Every living thing conforms to it. Everything in nature grows and struggles in its own way, establishing its own identity, insisting on it at all cost, against all resistance.â This book is for any artist who wants inspiration on how to live as an artist.

Zumindest was diesen ersten Teil angeht. Freue mich schon auf die FortsetzungsbÃ¤nde.... FÃ¼r alle Korrasami-Fans geht mit diesem BÃ¼chlein auÃerdem ein kleiner Wunsch in ErfÃ¼llung, denn nun kÃ¶nnen sie (ich eingeschlossen) ihr Lieblingscouple auch tatsÃ¤chlich sozusagen ganz offiziell zusammen sehen.Und auch die Vorfreude kommt nicht zu kurz, denn Band 2 wird am Ende des Buches fÃ¼r MÃ¤rz 2018 angekÃ¼ndigt und ich bin bereits sehr gespannt, wie das Abenteuer weiter geht. :) Nachdem das Comic nach einigen Lieferschwierigkeiten angekommen war, hatte ich den Frust Ã¼ber die VerspÃ¤tung spÃ¤testens beim Auspacken komplett vergessen.Die Bilder sind wirklich schÃ¶n gezeichnet, die Charaktere so eigensinnig und liebenswert, wie man sie aus der Serie kennt, die Geschichte sehr schÃ¶n weiter gefÃ¼hrt. Meiner Meinung nach eine wirklich gelungene Fortsetzung, insbesondere natÃ¼rlich auch fÃ¼r Korrasami-Fans ;) (hust, wie mich, hust)Die Illustrationen lassen sich allerdings auch gut weiterverwenden, um zum Beispiel Perspektive und Posen beim Zeichnen einer oder mehrerer Figuren zu erlernen/ zu verbessern. Avatar und auch Die Legende von Korra waren anatomisch betrachtet immer recht genau ( natÃ¼rlich wurde dennoch der Cartoon/Anime Stil beibehalten) und auch dieses Comic bietet viele schÃ¶ne Anhaltspunkte und Inspirationen, seine eigenen ZeichenfÃ¤higkeiten aufzupeppen.Klare Kaufempfehlung!

So auch Der Heckenritter von Westeros, der als Vorgeschichte von Das Lied von Eis und Feuer gilt, und vom Leben Dunks erzÃ¤hlt. Dieser wird zu Beginn der Geschichte vom Knappe zum Ritter und erlebt fortan mit seinem Knappen Egg mehrere Abenteuer, die sich wiederum in die einzelnen Kapitel des Buches gliedern. Jedes dieser Kapitel wird nun in einer Graphic Novel adaptiert und in diesem Jahr erschien nun endlich der dritte Teil.Ich selbst habe die Buchvorlage nicht gelesen, finde aber die Graphic Novel Adaptionen wahnsinnig charmant. Obwohl Das Lied von Eis und Feuer selbst schon im Mittelalter spielt, scheint uns Der Heckenritter noch einmal in ein tieferes und dunkleres Mittelalter mitzunehmen und diese AtmosphÃ¤re wird in den Graphic Novels sehr gut wiedergegeben. Auch der Zeichenstil gefÃ¤llt mir sehr gut und rundet das alles atmosphÃ¤risch noch einmal ab.Heckenritter vs. Game of Thrones Meine Bewertung der einzelnen Graphic Novels von ihrer inhaltlichen Seite aus, erinnerte mich sehr oft an das generelle Problem, das ich auch mit dem Bewerten von Anthologien habe. Einige der Geschichten gefallen mir besser als andere, manche sagen mir Ã¼berhaupt nicht zu. So schwankte auch meine Meingung zum Inhalt der Graphic Novels, der manchmal sehr spannend war, an anderen Stellen interessant, hin und wieder auch langweilig und banal war. Mir gefiel zum grÃ¶Ãten Teil jedoch auch der Dialog zwischen den Figuren sehr gut, auch wenn ich mich manchmal sehr verloren fÃ¼hlte, da die Geschichte und das Hintergrundwissen einfach fehlten.Dennoch muss ich sagen, dass Der Heckenritter samt seinen Adaptionen doch ein StÃ¼ck weit hinter den Game of Thrones BÃ¼chern steht. Mir gefallen besonders die Gesichter und die Mimik sehr gut, die einzelnen Bilder sind nicht zu Ã¼berladen, sodass man nicht von EindrÃ¼cken erschlagen wird.Shirotani ist psychisch krank, er hat Angst vor Bakterien und leidet sehr darunter, weil ihm so kaum eine zwischenmenschliche Beziehung mÃ¶glich ist. Er schreckt vor BerÃ¼hrungen zurÃ¼ck, mÃ¶chte aber mit der Hilfe von Kurose daran arbeiten. Die Szenen zwischen den beiden mochte ich sehr. In diesem Band kÃ¼mmert sich Kurose schÃ¶n um Shirotani, als es ihm in einer Situation nicht gut geht.Ein bisschen wird die Vergangenheit von Shirotani angeschnitten und ich bin gespannt, was der Leser da noch erfahren wird.Es gab wieder ein paar heiÃe Szenen, besonders die am Ende. Die aber mitten drinnen aufhÃ¶rt, deswegen meine Empfehlung unbedingt schon Band 4 griffbereit haben, ich musste danach sofort weiter lesen. ... Liebe natÃ¼rlich! Ãber den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende HergÃ©, mit bÃ¼rgerlichem Namen Georges RÃ©mi, wurde 1907 in Etterbeek bei BrÃ¼ssel geboren. Seine erste Zeichnung verÃ¶ffentlichte er 1921 in der Zeitschrift "Jamais assez", und in den folgenden Jahren fertigte er vor allem fÃ¼r belgische Pfadfinder-Zeitschriften Illustrationen und Vignetten an. 1924 zeichnete er mit "Les Aventures de Totor" seine erste Bildergeschichten-Serie, in der er im Laufe der nÃ¤chsten Jahre immer hÃ¤ufiger auf formsprachliche Elemente US-amerikanischer Zeitungs-Strips zurÃ¼ckgriff. So tauchten zum Beispiel Sprechblasen in seinen Zeichnungen auf, die von den beigestellten Versen abweichende Dialogtexte enthielten. Am 10. Januar 1929 schlieÃlich erschien in "Le Petit VingtiÃ©me" die erste Folge einer Geschichte mit dem Titel "Tintin, Reporter du Petit VingtiÃ©me, au Pays de Soviets": das erste Abenteuer von "Tim und Struppi". Schon im Jahr darauf verÃ¶ffentlichte HergÃ© mit "Stups und Steppke" eine zweite Serie i n "Le Petit VingtiÃ©me", auÃerdem zeichnete er zu dieser Zeit sÃ¤mtliche Illustrationen und TitelblÃ¤tter des wÃ¶chentlichen Magazins, fÃ¼r dessen Gestaltung er allein verantwortlich war. Aufgrund der groÃen PopularitÃ¤t, die "Tim und Struppi" genoss, wurden die Abenteuer des Reporters und seines Foxterriers ab 1930 jeweils nach Beendigung des Vorabdrucks im Magazin als Album herausgegeben. 1931 begann HergÃ© mit der kurzlebigen Serie "Paul und Virginia bei den Langohrindianern", 1936 liefen die etwas erfolgreicheren Abenteuer von "Jo, Jette und Jocko" in "Le petit VingtiÃ©me" an. Dann warf der II. Weltkrieg seine Schatten voraus: "Jo, Jette und Jocko" wurde am 24. September 1939 mitten in der Handlung abgebrochen, das aktuelle "Tim und Struppi"-Abenteuer "Im Reiche des Schwarzen Goldes" lief noch bis zum 8. Mai 1940 weiter, blieb dann aber ebenfalls zunÃ¤chst unvollendet liegen. Noch im selben Jahr erhielt HergÃ© das Angebot, "Tim und Struppi" fÃ¼r "Le Soir" weiterzuzeichnen. So erschien am 17. Oktober die erste Folge von "Die Krabbe mit den goldenen Scheren" in der auflagenstarken katholisch-konservativen Tageszeitung. Sein von der Papierrationierung betroffener Verleger Casterman bat HergÃ©, den Umfang seiner Alben zu reduzieren, dafÃ¼r sollten die bisher schwarzweiÃen Comics in Zukunft farbig gedruckt werden. Da diese Regelung auch fÃ¼r alle bereits erschienenen Alben galt, musste HergÃ©, um den plÃ¶tzlich gestiegenen Arbeitsaufwand zu bewerkstelligen, erstmals Assistenten beschÃ¤ftigen. Seine ersten Mitarbeiter wurden Alice Devos und Edgar P. Jacobs. Nach dem Krieg nahm die Arbeit nicht ab, im Gegenteil: Am 26. September 1946 erschien die erste Ausgabe der flÃ¤mischen Version der Zeitschrift "Tintin", am 28. Oktober 1948 folgte das franzÃ¶sische GegenstÃ¼ck. Die farbigen "Tim und Struppi"-Alben verkauften sich besser als die schwarzweiÃen, HergÃ©s VerantwortungsgefÃ¼hl wuchs mit jedem neuen Abenteuer, grÃ¼ndliche Recherchen nahmen im Arbeitsprozess ei nen immer grÃ¶Ãeren Raum ein. All das fÃ¼hrte 1950 zur GrÃ¼ndung des Studio HergÃ©. Zu seinen kreativsten Mitarbeitern zÃ¤hlten im Laufe der Jahre neben Jacobs vor allem Bob de Moor, Jacques Martin und Roger Leloup. Mit seiner klaren LinienfÃ¼hrung, der "Ligne claire", wurde HergÃ© zum einflussreichsten Comic-KÃ¼nstler Europas. Er starb 1983. In seinem Testament hatte HergÃ© verfÃ¼gt, dass "Tim und Struppi" von keinem anderen Zeichner weitergefÃ¼hrt werden dÃ¼rfe. KapitÃ¤n Haddock muss als Versuchskaninchen herhalten und macht dabei schon einmal sein Testament. Denn eigentlich will er gar nicht zum Mond ... Fortsetzung folgt inÂ Bd.16, Schritte auf dem Mond.In diesem Comic von 1950 gibt es ein paar groÃformatige Zei chnungen - ganz nach meinem Geschmack. Andere Motive im GroÃformat hÃ¤tte ich mir ebenfalls gut vorstellen kÃ¶nnen. Dennoch interessant, was sich HergÃ© alles Ã¼ber den Antrieb und Funktionsweise von Mondraketen zusammengereimt hat, obwohl der erste Flug zum Mond noch Jahre dauern sollte (1969). HergÃ© ist selbst nicht gereist, sondern malte seine Comics nach Postkarten aus fernen LÃ¤ndern. Alles entspringt seiner enormen Vorstellungskraft. Wegen Textlastigkeit ein Punkt Abzug.
