Today I turn 30. There, I said it. It’s not so scary. Really, I think I had a bigger issue with turning 25. The quarter life crisis was something that seriously got me thinking about my life and its direction and my goals and what I felt was truly important to me. I think that is what birthdays always are for me. Just a reminder to stop and reflect. Another year has passed and a fresh year lies ahead. Getting older itself doesn’t bother me … except for the fact that I am afraid of dying. Not trying to take a morbid 360 on this post, but let’s be honest, seeing another birthday is never a guarantee. So living with that lovely mentality in mind, I try to focus on enjoying the day to day.

On that happy note, what better way enjoy life than by sipping on delicious Margaritas poolside and basking in the glorious sunshine (with SPF 60 on) in Mexico for a week with two of my favourite people, Hayden and my beautiful cousin Karleen. It was a fabulous trip, but boy did I miss my hubby. Hayden and I couldn’t wait to get home to see daddy.

A sidenote here … I consider myself to be a fairly humble person, but when it comes to Hayden all that goes right out the window. I already think Hayden is the most amazing little man, but this trip made me so extra proud of him. His super happy little self was soooo popular. I just love that his smiley, bubbly little personality and infectious little character made so many people smile. Including … GET THIS … Henrik (or Daniel) SEDIN from the Canucks!!!! I am a big Canucks fan, and I still can’t tell these two apart. But in the airport there he was and Hayden let out a squeel and let’s just say it was Henrik, looked over and gave him a big smile  :) On the whole trip the flight attendants, passengers on the plane, then resort staff and so many guests all knew Hayden by name and always came to chat with him. It probably didn’t hurt that Hayden likes to wave and smile and say a big HI to everybody. But who couldn’t love this toothy little grin. Ok, that is my brag fest for today.

So in honour of this beautiful sunshine we are having here today on my birthday, I thought I would share some of the gorgeous sunny times we had on our trip. Adios !!

Amber had her hair and make up done, which I highly recommend for any lady getting her portraits taken. You are going to treasure these images for a long time, why not capture your most beautiful you by being pampered before your session? Amber also bought some beautiful lingerie and they both ensured we had a wonderful well lit space to shoot in. So thank you guys for all your help in making your shoot so fabulous! Here is part II. So I figured it was long overdue that I share some images from his party! It is no secret that I am obsessed with Pinterest. So when it came to planning Hayden’s party I created an inspiration board and went to town! I became crazy about all things owl. And with help from Hayden’s dada, nana and papa and aunties we were able to throw him a very special first birthday party. Now I know that Hayden more than likely will not remember his first birthday celebration, but I hope that when he looks back on these photos and the other snaps from the day that he will see how much effort and love went into celebrating his amazing first year.

He WALKED !!! Well he took about 4 steps from our coffee table to our couch and holy moly I couldn’t be prouder. He took a few more steps here and there throughout the day and I have a feeling that he is going to be even harder to keep up with mighty soon.

He already gets into EVERYTHING. But now he will be that much faster and harder for mom to keep up with. I am getting exhausted just thinking about it ;)

His favourite things to get into these days are the cat’s food and water dish. The toilets given the opportunity. Anything electrical or that has wires. And cupboards.

Some favourite foods these days are frozen blueberries and peaches (helps with the massive teething!), cheese omelettes, hummus, toast and peanut butter.

Our little boy is growing up and it is so bitter sweet.
