Hi everyone and Happy New Year!!! Ok so I am back from Vegas and unfortunately I am now poor and sick...lol. But, I am very excited for 2008 - I have this feeling it is going to be a great year for me, my loved ones and Kim Le Photography.

Before I left for Vegas, I captured lil' Mindy in her element at the park. It was her 8th birthday and I've seen Mindy grown into quite the lil' lady, not to mention a budding young model.

"making memories of us"

We all know how important the day of the wedding is, but we cannot forget about all those fun and crazy events leading up to the momentous occasion. It has become increasingly common for couples to have photography coverage at wedding rehearsals, rehearsal dinners and bridal showers to document the wedding frenzy you endure with family, friends & loved ones. After all, we know the “big day” isn’t really just about that day. If you are married, I think you will agree that you spend way more time planning a wedding than actually participating in it! With family in town and excitement built up, I believe there are some amazing moments waiting to be captured at these events. So for all you couples, this might be something you want to keep in mind when doing your wedding planning. Who knows – you might get that shot of Mom crying because she finally saw Aunt Sue after 5 years. Or you might get that shot of Uncle Ted getting a lil’ too tipsy thanks to the open bar. Whatever the case, these are moments worth looking back on and worth the extra planning for.

Here are examples of a wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner I shot in August 2007. Thanks to Dustin & Wendi and their families for such a great time! As you can tell from the pics, they had a blast as well! Click here to see photographs from their beachfront August wedding!

"bright lights, big city"

Last week, I attended the Efficient Lighting Company Holiday Party which was held at the skydeck of the luxurious 1100 Wilshire in downtown LA. I was amazed by the breathtaking views of downtown. I have lived in LA for 9 years now (wow that's a long time) and have yet to take in the LA skyline from this vantage point. I know the City has been trying to revitalize downtown LA and turn it into a thriving urban hub. I must say I am impressed by the new developments, but also still turned off by the traffic and smog that surrounds the area. I drove by the newly constructed Nokia Theatre across from the Staples Center, which to me has the feel of the incredible Times Square in NYC. They are also building Ritz Carlton residences in the same block. I think I'll pass and stick to my modest apartment in West LA =).

Anyway, I just wanted to say congrats to Efficient Lighting Company on a successful year - thanks for a fun night! And I would recommend checking out the new downtown if you can - just don't drive from 7-10am or 4-8pm - there's just waaaay too much traffic. You gotta love LA! =)

"my christmas wish this year"

Today I sat down and while humming "Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la" in my head, I wrote this note to Santa regarding my Christmas wish this year:

Dearest Santa,

I have been a very good girl this year and would love to have a brand new handbag this year for Christmas. Preferably a creamy leather handbag by Marc Jacobs with shiny gold accents. Thank you Santa and please enjoy the Sprinkles cupcakes I have left for you by my pseudo-fireplace.

But, soon after I wrote the note, I realized that I didn’t need to write the letter because I had already bought the handbag for myself! Whoops - my bad! =)

matt, trish & raymond: engagement & family portrait

"love like this"

First of all, thank you Heidi & Warren for referring such an amazing couple to me! I’m telling you I have the best clients! Matt, Trish & the absolutely adorable Raymond met me in Laguna Beach, CA on Sunday for a fun engagement/family portrait session. I knew right away it was going to be great session when I got big welcome hugs from Trish & Raymond upon first meeting (don’t worry Matt - I won’t hold the missing hug against you! =)). Matt, Trish & Raymond are the cutest family ever. First of all, they are blessed with incredible good looks and secondly, they are blessed with genuine kindness and complete love. I kept thinking to myself, “how much cuter can than this lil’ family get?!” And then I noticed the cute lil’ stars Trish had drawn on all of their jeans and the cute matching black Converses they were all wearing and I was like “man, I need to get me a cute lil’ family like this!”

Thank you Matt, Trish & Raymond for being so considerably sweet and wonderfully cute. I can’t wait for your wedding in 2009, which I’m sure will be as cute as you are! Ok, enough of the cuteness and on with the pics! =)

Raymond was such a good boy throughout the shoot. He struck a pose when I asked him to and played quietly with his Transformers when I was shooting Matt & Trish. Except for this shot when I told him to chase the seagulls and he ended up chasing me!

"giving thanks"

Thanksgiving is one of my most favorite holidays of the year. I mean who doesnt love a holiday where all you do is eat and hang out with loved ones?! =). Every year for Thanksgiving, my sister turns into Martha Stewart and whips us this extravagant turkey day feast for our phamily. I eat until Im as stuffed as the turkey, watch some football and then eat some more. Then I try to sleep as early as I can (which usually doesnt work) so I can wake up early for Black Friday, which is another favorite holiday of mine. In honor of 2007, here are just 7 things Iam incredibly thankful for this year (in random order):

My phamily - they drive me crazy and I love them just the way they are.
My photography - the business is running along and I've met such great people along the way. I am honored to be able to capture such treasured memories for my clients.
My roommate - good roommates are so hard to find and I'm fortunate that I've found someone as fun and compatible as her.
The bf - good boyfriends are even harder to find. The bf has a way of making me smile and brightening up my day everyday and any day.
My friends - its so true but the older you get the smaller your circle of friends become. My friends are an extension of my family and they have stuck by me in good times and bad.
My health - for those of you who know me well, I'm not the best about taking care of my health needs and like to indulge in not-so-healthy-eats. Luckily, I've remain pretty healthy this year and been able to continue doing all the things I love to do.
Justin Timberlake - he brought sexy back need I say more?

"dancing the night away"

I had the pleasure of shooting Faisal & Heela’s wedding reception on November 9, 2007 at the Royal Palace in Glendale, CA. I was taken aback by the beautiful customs and grand festivities of an Afghan wedding. The wedding had such a colorful energy to it. It was all about getting together with family & friends and just having an infinite good time. There was non-stop food (which was soooo delicious) and non-stop dancing. Everyone and I mean everyone couldn’t stop dancing! The custom behind this is to have a grand celebration to launch the couple into their new life. Sounds to me like a good time in any culture! And you know it must be a good party when people don’t want to leave – even at 2 am! The music and dancing were so infectious that I couldn’t help but move a lil' to the beat as I was snapping away. I’m just glad my assistant shooter Patrick didn’t sneak any pics of me in the act! It’s weddings like these that make me think in my head “wow, I get paid to do this?!” and "wow, I really need to learn some new dance moves."

Thank you Faisal & Heela for letting me capture your special evening. You and your family & friends are amazing and vibrant. Your energy and dance moves are contagious and inspirational!

And special thanks to Patrick for shooting alongside me! He handled the Canon 70-200mm like a pro!

"it’s my life"

I have wanted to do this for a while and since I am officially 1000 days from my 30th birthday, I decided to start this countdown today. I know what you are thinking – “30 is nothing”, “30 is the new 20”, “you still look 16”, etc… Those may all be true, but for me turning the Big 3-0 serves as a marker in my life – recognizing that I’ve already lived 27 years and although I have very many cherished memories and am extremely grateful for all the things I have, there is so much I still have yet and would like to experience and accomplish.

So I put up this handy countdown to serve as a helpful reminder to never lose sight of my goals and follow through - to do all those things that I say “I’ve always wanted to do” or “I’ve been meaning to do” but never or haven’t recently taken the time to do:

"she’s like the wind"

This past weekend the bf joined me in the Windy City and we had the best time enjoying all of Chicago’s amazing architecture and delectable eats. It wasn’t my first time here, but it was my first time with him which made it all that more enjoyable. Some of my faves of the weekend were eating delicious deep-dish pizza from the original Pizzeria Uno, learning the history behind Chicago’s fine architecture via Wendella's River and Lake tour, catching an incredible skyline view from the top of Big John, playing around with the big Bean at Millennium Park and eating melt-in-your-mouth pancakes at the legendary Lou Mitchell’s. I just looooove Chicago – the city and the people here have so much character. I am always amazed how the city stays so beautiful and clean. Being here in the fall/winter is an added bonus with the leaves changing color (you don’t get that in SoCal) and everyone in their fabulous winter gear all bundled up!

"always be my baby"

I still remember the day I brought him home almost 2 years ago. He was so tiny and was crying softly because he had been separated from his mom a few days earlier. I knew then that he needed me as much as I needed him. He was my lil' pup and got me through some difficult times back then. We shared a lot of great times together like eating and sleeping =). At 2 years of age, he has now become a strapping young lad (he even has a gf!), but in my heart, he will always be my baby. Happy 2nd birthday Kobes!!! (And to the other Kobe, you better stay with the Lakers!!!)

"i work hard for my money"

Due to oodles and oodles of work this week, (and month and year), I sadly cannot participate in this year's Halloween festivities. It is a holiday I am willing to forgo in lieu of bigger and better treats down the road =). I am also currently working in the city of Chicago where as lovely as it is, it is also very chilly and windy (especially to a SoCal girl like myself) and therefore, leaves me lil' options for cute costumes =). So for today, I only have pictures and fond memories of last year's trick n' treating in WeHo. Unfortunately, I have no candy left from last year =(. If you like to send me some in Chicago, my faves are Snickers and Reese Pieces/Cups. Thanks.

Yes I was Supergirl (with Sailorgirl and Wonderwoman) - we were a year younger and so ready to save the world. This year I rather be saved =).

heidi & warren: engagement

"a perfect match"

It was only fitting that I shot Heidi & Warren’s engagement session in Corona Del Mar, CA. It was at Inspiration Point in Corona Del Mar 2 years earlier where Heidi & Warren shared their first date together. They talked for hours on the beach and after such a memorable first date with Warren, Heidi told herself that there was something special about this guy. She felt that this could be the kind of guy she had been looking for – a genuinely “nice guy”. And that’s exactly the kind of guy Warren is. You can just tell how much he cares for Heidi – little gestures like constantly caressing her hair or kissing her forehead were present throughout the shoot. But, it’s the way he makes Heidi laugh and smile that is truly genuine and special. You can just feel the mutual love and respect they have for one another. It’s no doubt that Heidi & Warren make a perfect match =).

This past Saturday, I and 80,000 other fans witnessed a thrilling upset as our beloved Bruins defeated the Cal Bears at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. It was the perfect afternoon in beautiful Southern California: great seats, warm weather, yummy frozen lemonade, non-stop action and oh yeah, our Bruins were victorious!!! Maybe people will start talking about us again, you know instead of that other college team in Los Angeles that we beat last year. Get off the bandwagon people! =)

"a sorta fairytale"

The garden terrace of the Hilton Hotel in San Gabriel, CA had been transformed on October 14, 2007 into exactly how Jennifer always dreamed her wedding day would look. There was a beautiful white gazebo set as the centerpiece for this grand event, with 100 chairs of pink and white lined up and a quiet fountain brought a sweet serenity to the afternoon ceremony. Aside from all the charming details, it had the essence of what makes a traditional Chinese wedding so special: family, family and more family! Family was all present throughout the terrace, grinning ear-to-ear and ringing with sounds of happiness and laughter. Jennifer & Ruben were exactly the same way - they had not stopped smiling since the moment they woke up on this blessed day. (I’m also convinced Jennifer was born with a mega-watt smile on her face =)). It was the day they had both been waiting for – the day their fairytale was brought to life. Jennifer & Ruben - thank you for letting me be a part of such a special day!

my weekend getaway

"la isla bonita"

This past weekend, I got to enjoy a relaxing mini-vacation with two of my bestest friends in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. We stayed at the El Conquistador Resort in the city of Fajardo. The resort was so huge that we had to take this tram from one end of the resort to the other. The resort had a casino and it's own private island. We made the most of our weekend getaway by taking in as much as we could of Puerto Rico: relaxing at the island of Palomino, getting a much needed massage at the Golden Door spa, night kayaking and swimming in the bioluminescent lagoon, sleeping with the sounds of coquis, renting a car and getting lost – hahah, drinking pina coladas but not quite dancing in the sporadic rain, and taking a day trip to Old San Juan where we ate mofongo and took many, many pictures of the historic sites. All in all, this weekend getaway was exactly what I needed after a very busy summer!

jason & tereza: wedding

"simple twist of fate"

I was more than thrilled when I received the opportunity to shoot with one of Denver’s finest, James Christianson for Jason & Tereza’s wedding in beautiful Manhattan Beach, CA on September 22, 2007. James is a pleasure to work with and displays the utmost in professionalism.

In his heart-moving speech, Jason called his meeting of Tereza during Oktoberfest in Manhattan Beach a few years ago "an act of faith". It would be years later that Jason & Tereza would became and husban-and-wife in front of 150 family and friends, all of which who could not be happier to witness this fateful union. The father-of-the-bride and the father-of-the-groom both spoke such tender words about their children that I nearly cried while working my Canon. Luckily I held it together and was able to capture some of these highlights of this memorable day:

I was more than happy to do a second shoot with Astrid & Justin. They are such a lovely couple and sooo easy to work with. My favorite part of the session was when I asked them what they had spots they wanted to shoot at next and Justin was like “Hey you two ladies are in charge – I just do whatever you tell me to do.” Astrid – he’s definitely a keeper!!! =) In all seriousness, Justin is such a gentleman and it is obvious how in love he is with Astrid (and vice-versa of course)! We did a variety of shots, including some around rocky areas, and Justin was always there to hold her hand and make sure his future wife was safe, especially from giant waves =).

We had so many great images from the session, but here are the stand-outs:

"big girls don't cry"

Astrid certainly didn't! She and Justin were such great sports during our engagement session last Sunday in Laguna Beach, CA. We were about an hour into our session (I normally shoot 2 hour e-sessions) when a huge CA wave came almost wiped us all out. Fortunately, we and my trusty Canon were all safe and Justin didn't have to show off any Baywatch skills (I can't swim - please don't ask or laugh!=)). Unfortunately, we had to cut our e-session a lil’ short and decided to postpone the rest of the shoot for another day. Notes to self for our make-up shoot next week:

(1) don’t sacrifice safety for creativity and
(2) remember to wear floaties =).

A few FAQ...

Ok first, what’s your name?
It seems weird, but people ask me this all the time! Ok, my first name is “Kim Le”. I’ve never been a hyphen kind of girl, so it has always confused people, even my friends. My full name is “Kim Le Thi Pham”, with “Thi” being my middle name and “Pham” being my last name. To make matters even more confusing, I am the youngest of 7 girls in the Phamily and we are all named “Kim L-something”. Yes, I know. There’s “Kim Lien, Kim Lan, Kim Ly, Kim Lang, Kim Luu, Kim Lieu” and yours truly. Just typing that was confusing! Anyway, you can call me “Kim Le”, “Kim”, or the ever popular “Lil’ Kim” (no relation to the rapper). =)

What’s your style?
My style is portrait photojournalism. I capture images that tell a story of the wedding day – the moments, emotions and details that make your day truly special and unique. When there’s a break in the action, I take the opportunity to take posed portraits of the bride & groom with family & friends. Coming from such a big family myself, I understand how important it is to involve everyone in your big day!

Do you only offer wedding photography?
No, I offer photography services for a variety of events and needs. These types of photography include but are not limited to:
• Headshot/portrait photography
• Boudoir sessions
• Corporate photography
• Baby/youth portraits
• Senior/high school portraits
• Special events: birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, etc…

Do you shoot digital or film? What kind of equipment do you use?
I only shoot in digital and with Canon equipment, utilizing a variety of professional grade lenses as needed throughout the shoot.

How much do you charge?
It all depends on your type of event and length of photography coverage. Please contact me with details of your event and I will provide you with a custom quote.

How do we see our photos?
All of my photo coverage will be provided via online proofing and CD. From the online proofs, you can order prints in a range of sizes and customize an album.

Do you shoot destination weddings?
YES!!! My base is in Southern California, but I am happy and more than willing to travel to meet your destination needs. Travel fees are applicable to areas outside of Southern California.

What are boudoir sessions?
Boudoir photography is a sexy new trend in the photography industry and is very popular among brides. Boudoir photos are used as creative gifts we give to ourselves or our significant others. These photos are not usually nude, but give the impression of “implied nudity”. It all depends on your comfort level!
