A Little Bling Goes A Long Way

I had the pleasure of working with Ansonya at Principles in Action again for another candy buffet for a beautiful wedding. I designed the labels, signs, favor tags and popcorn bag labels.

The idea with these was to be classy. There were different size labels for larger and smaller treats. The labels had fun romantic saying to replace actual candy names. Check out the pictures below and leave your comments!

A Midsummer Night's Dream

So this post is long overdue and I apologize. For our wedding we wanted an old-fashioned, vintage style wedding with class. Since our wedding was in July, I came up with a thought of a Midsummer Night's Dream. Later, I found out this was a Shakespeare romantic comedy! So, we added Shakespeare into our theme.

My husband came up with the idea for scroll invitations to match the timeframe we were going for. I figured if we're going to do this, might as well go all out and make them look as real as possible!

The scroll was tied with a ribbon then another ribbon wrapped around the rest of the inserts (reply card and envelope, reception card and map/directions card).

This all fitted into a dark blue metallic inner envelope, which then fitted inside a gold leaf metallic outer envelope.

We received so many flattering comments on these! It really wowed our guests and they loved them! Keep in mind if you do this, you do have to pay shipping on these. It costs us $1.88 per invite set to mail.

I also created our own candy buffet. It included a variety of candies like lentils, rock candy, gummies and even some Italian candies to go with our honeymoon (we went to Rome, Italy for our honeymoon!). I created all the paperie products for this candy buffet.

Also, for our programs for the ceremony, we rolled them up into scrolls!

Why stop there? Our table number signs and other signs around the room were attached to rods and hung by ribbon! Every guest also received a "Thank You" note rolled up and tied of with a ribbon.

Our escort cards were a little different as well. We created books for every couple. The outside was stamped with their names, the spine stamped with "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and the inside had a picture of us on one side with the other side their table assignment with a page from the romantic comedy.

Chic Pink and Gray Baby Shower

I recently hosted a baby shower for my best friend, Stephanie. She just had her first baby, a little girl named Kylie. She's the most adorable little girl!

I chose a Chic pink and gray theme for her baby shower. We did a fairly simple and small sweets buffet.

It really turned out pretty and cute. It seems like everyone enjoyed it. We put the invite in a frame and placed it on the table along with the "It's a Girl" sign.

The buffet included homemade strawberry marshmallows dipped in pink-colored white chocolate with a gray and white straw placed through the tops. The gray cupcakes were strawberry flavored with vanilla frosting. The pink cupcakes were vanilla cupcakes with vanilla frosting. Then, I took oreos and dipped them in white chocolate. Everything was so delicious! And pretty, too!

A Little Travel Through Paris and Rome...

I wish! Instead, I had the honor of working with Ansonya at Principles in Action for yet another wonderful time of setting up a beautiful candy buffet.

This theme was a travel theme based on Paris and Rome. Her order included some signs, favor tags and candy buffet labels. I take most of my pride in the candy buffet labels we came up with.

The idea started with them looking like luggage tags to go with the travel theme. Ansonya asked for two designs. These are the two Design Scents provided:

These were then cut out and matted with a dark purple metallic cardstock. Holes were punched through just like real luggage tags to allow gorgeous purple and silver metallic ribbon to run through and let the tag hang from the jars.

As you can see from the images, they had local and foreign mailing stamps to give it that travel feeling. Then, I added in the background some old-fashioned handwriting to make it look like someone was writing a letter to be put into the mail. Then, there was a single line drawn down the middle for the name of the candies to be added.

When we added the names of the candies, Ansonya wanted something "Italian" incorporated with the names. We concluded with the idea of adding romantic Italian sayings (plus, a translation into English!). So, below the name of the candy you can see where the romantic Italian saying was added.

I must admit, these turned out beautifully! And, to be completely honest...I changed the ones I made for my upcoming wedding to luggage tags as well! I'll be posting soon all the designs and stationary we're using in our upcoming wedding (it's only 2.5 weeks away!).

Remember in a previous entry I mentioned how simplicity can be key? You can overdue a theme. Adding too much decorations can add clutter and become unpleasant to the eye. Not only are candy buffets yummy and guests love them! But, they can really add to the decor of the room and help bring in your theme.

These next few pictures show a cute, yet effective way that Principles in Action Consulting, LLC used simplicity to complete their look. The little ants, a flower here and there, a couple vases of floral, and a vintage ladle all bring together the feeling of strutting outdoors vintage style!

I liked these cute little details. It really emphasized the theme without overdoing.

Gold & Silver NYE Cake Pops

Happy New Year Everyone!

I just wanted to share some cake pops I made for my family for New Year's Eve. I used a Gold & Silver theme, which was incorporated with the use of sprinkles. We created a family time out of making these - my fiancee and father helped! Didn't they do a marvelous job? :-)

The first batch I made were "Brownie Pops" made with cream cheese and dipped in milk chocolate. We rotated between dipping them in the gold or silver sprinkles. My father and fiancee actually wanted to dip theirs in both sprinkles.

The second batch I made were "Chocolate Chip Cookie Pops" made with vanilla icing and dipped in milk chocolate. We also rotated between dippig them in gold and silver sprinkles. From the outside, you can't tell which cake pop is which. Actually, after placing them in the styrofoam and later moving them to our container we were saving them in, we forgot which were which! So, it created a little surprise when you bit into one. Either way, it was a sweet surprise!

Both flavors are very rich! Even so, you can't eat just one! The brownie pops are very chocolatey and creamy. The chocolate chip cookie pops turned out tasting similar to cookie dough, but not as creamy as the brownie pops. Both flavors were very yummy!

Delicious Oreo Bon Bons

When I was stationed at Scott AFB, I bakes weekly for my workcenter. Oreo bon bons was my office's favorite baked goods I brought in. One guy said I should sell these and I'd get rich just from making these! Now, that might be a little extreme. But, they are very delicious - you can never eat just one!

These are my most favorite dessert I make. It's a super simple recipe, but very tedious. When complete, they are very rewarding to eat though!

I see that cake pops have become a favorite item at candy buffets. I decided that my oreo bon bons should be just as popular!

They are made with oreos, cream cheese, and chocolate. I cover them in either milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate. Then, they're drizzles in a variety of flavors! If it can be melted, it's drizzled. Sometimes, I'll mix in sprinkles. For winter themes, the sprinkles turn out very nicely.

However, these oreo bon bons don't need to only be covered in brown or white. There are numerous colors that melting chocolate comes in now. These are usually white chocolate in flavoring.

Traditional Christmas Collection

Seasons Greetings!

Curlicues and Confections requested another custom order for another event. The above pictures shows their completed candy art along with the Traditional Christmas Collection. The collection included traditional Christmas colors of red and green with a lighter green and white. The labels are flat and measure approximately 3.5x2".

A sign is also included in this collection that measures 10x8. The sign and label sheet is shown below.

This collection works great with any formal or informal event. The playful color display pulls in an informal atmosphere while the elegant cursive foreground handwriting font sets a formal setting.

The candy art supplied by Curlicues and Confections pulls together the theme of the event perfectly. You look at the table you immediately think of the holiday season. The label collection helps by bringing in the finishing touch.

The label inform the guests what they're choosing to eat in a festive manner. The arrangement of the candies is eye pleasing. It's a beautiful arrangement!

Your candy buffet should be art, designed and arranged in a way to interest your guests while pulling in the party's theme. This candy buffet does just that. The labels added a little bit more decor to help bring in the theme - although, the candy buffet alone accomplishes that. Peppermint Twist Collection

This Peppermint Twist Collection was a custom order for Curliecues & Confections. Curliecues & Confections is a candy buffet specialist for all types of events. They also sell custom marshmallow creations that you can order from their etsy store.

I designed the background for these tags with the idea of peppermint sticks in mind. It's a simple design that speaks the theme very loudly. I love simple designs like these that don't require a lot to get the theme across. To me simple is elegant.

This collection included the candy labels as well as a sign that she cut out in the shape of the bracket frame. This sign comes as a 10x8 rectangular image. This is a wonderful example of how you can really dress up and make your own collection from something basic. She also added a red ribbon and a peppermint candy. Remember, the creativity may start here, but it ends with you.

The labels themselves measure approximately 3.5x2" and are designed as flat cards. These could come as tent label as well.

I love the way Curliecues and Confections used these labels. This theme is a really fun one. The candies she used was a good variety while still incorporating the theme together. And, where did she get that huge peppermint? I love it!

Below, you can see another way to utilize these flat labels. She connected them to a stick and tied a red ribbon to it. Take these ideas as inspiration and make your own creation!

A Must Have: Candy Buffets!

Candy Buffets are definitely in! They're used at weddings, formal and informal events, bridal showers, baby showers, bachelorette parties, anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, you name it! They're always a big hit!

Candy Buffets tend to be a more cost effective way to provide a favor for your guests. It's also yummy, guests love them, and they look good too! By having a candy buffet you're dressing up your event room. They add to the decor. They're pleasing to our eyes and definitely to our tummies!

There are several companies anymore that will set up a candy buffet for your next event. Personally, I'm setting up my own for my wedding. Yes, I'm purchasing all the jars, scoops, to-go boxes, and of the course the candy. But, I'm making the labels. :-) If you're setting up a candy buffet yourself, there are some things to keep in mind.

First, you'll want the buffet to match your theme and colors. You don't want it become a sore thumb to your guests' eyes. It should look like it fits; it belongs there. Look for candies in your colors. They come in a plethora of colors. There are online bulk stores like candywarehouse.com.

If you're having trouble finding candies in your colors, then find the ones that do match and use other elements to bring in your colors. You could use sugar by filling up a jar and then having lollipops sticking out of it. There's a number of items you could use. One idea (that I literally just came up with at this very moment!) is to find a vase, fill it up with water, and add color dye to it. You could just leave it like this and use it as some table decor. But, maybe try finding a jar or another vase that fits on top of it.

Speaking of table decor, there's lots of ways to bring in your colors to your candy buffet. There are several candies in all your basic colors: white, silver, gold, black. Find candies in these colors. Then, find candy scoops in your other colors. Use those colored rocks or crystals or glitter and spread around the table. Make your to-go containers in your colors and place them on the table. Or, have your florist make a floral arrangement or some abstract arrangement to incorporate your colors. Provide colored napkins for your guests. You'll definitely want to think about using fabrics too. Search for table runners, table cloths, or just use some left over cloth. Ribbon is another great way to bring in your colors. It's very easy to bring in your colors.

I was having trouble finding candies in my teal color for my wedding. So, I'm sticking with all navy and kiwi/keylime candies and using these other means mentioned above to bring in the teal.

Either way, you'll still want to add some sort of decor to your candy buffet table. It doesn't have to be anything elaborate. In my opinion, simplicity is key.

Now, what about those jars? First off, they're costly. I started looking for jars and thought I found some great deals when they were $15-$25 each. But, when I need 10 jars - that adds up fast! There are rental companies that you can rent jars from, and they're very reasonable prices from what I've found.

Also, try looking for other brides who are trying to sell off their set after their wedding. You can buy them at a discounted price, then turn right back around and sell them after your wedding. You can search craigslist, bridal forums, or ebay. Or, be like me and buy them new and then intend to sell them afterwards. I wasn't thinking bigger picture at the time...

There are several different jar styles! I was looking for apothecary jars. Did you know there were so many different styles of apothecary jars? It can get a little overwhelming for someone like me. I like too many things, and have to force myself to focus. But, don't just look at candy jars - try vases, too. There are several styles of vases and they work just as well.

You'll want to consider what style you're looking for from your candy buffet. Find jars/vases that go with this look you're trying for. One thing to keep in mind when purchasing these candy containers, if making sure you have a big enough opening for people to put their hands in there or the scoops.

You'll also want a variety of candies to choose from. Pick some chocolates, something sugary, something bitter, some soft candies, hard candies, gummy candies, etc. Or, pick a theme. Some people go with an old fashion theme and purchase all vintage candies. Some just pick the couple favorite types of candies and go with that.

Something else to think about is the quantity to purchase. You'll want to purchase enough candy to make the table look good. Too few candies make the table look sparse and plain. Too much candy means you're overdoing it and now you're going to have months worth of candies to take home with you.

Don't forget the to-go containers! Give your guests something unique to take their candy favors home with them. There's chinese to-go boxes, tote boxes, bags, and so many things. Decorate these items to personalize them. In the picture below, she took lunch bags, used crimp scissors to cut the tops to give them some flair and decorated them in a way to accent her theme. Simple, yet elegant.

It's really hard to guess how much candy to buy. What I did, was pick out a good variety of candies. And, since I'm a very ordered, structured person, I needed my buffet to be symmetrical. Therefore, I made sure I bought the same about of navy candies as I did kiwi. I decided how I wanted my table to look, and bought the amount of candy that would fill those containers. You'll also want to make sure you buy enough candy to fill the containers.

If you're on a tight budget and can't afford that much candy, then use other items on your table to help fill the table. Use things like flowers, colored water-filled vases and pictures. You just want to make sure the table looks tasteful to the eye - and to the tummy!

You can use things like risers and pedastals to create different levels for the containers. It makes it looks more appealing with the different heights. Speakings of heights, try getting containers of various heights and shapes as well.

Last but of course not least, tell your guests what they're eating! Make or purchase labels for your containers so that you guests know what they're sinking their teeth into. There's several ways to add labels to your candy buffet.

You can add ribbon and wrap them around the body of the containers. If you have lids, like apothecary jars, you can hang them. I've even seen it where they take some ribbon and hang them from inside the jar over the rim and leave the tag hanging loosely outside the jar. Or, get tent labels and put the labels in front of the containers. You could even use flat labels and just lay them on the table in front of their designated jar. There's seriously so many different ways to incorporate the labels.
