King Street Makes A Music Video- Starring One Of It’s Own!

As we set out to make a music video with our good friend, and new full time video person, Keith Bradshaw, our simple idea exploded into a full blown production–sort of. And myself(Todd) ended up one of the main characters in the video. The idea was to just play a super quick roll of the rocker that, in his head banging drive around town, sees very little around him and runs over the flowers that were purchased with the last few pennies of Jimmy’s(Boy) money in a attempt to admit his affection for his young teen crush. As we experimented with various idea’s to expand our footage to complete the video, our story line grew and grew. With it, so did my part as Buck! Ha…
We also made a behind the scenes–”The Making Of Mr. Wonderful” to let everyone in on how we made the video with just a little help from our friends.

Wedding Engagment Pictures & Portaits by King Street Studios Photography

We always try to create something very unique and personal through every wedding engagement portrait session we do. Self proclaimed over shooters, we always take too many pictures, but we never just add pictures for the sake of filler. If were excited and things are going great, which they seem to always do , we shoot away! More work for us–sheesh…but certainly a great benefit for our clients. We do ask our clients if they would like us to narrow down the pictures to just the very best of the best or if they prefer the more the merrier. The more the merrier seems to be the answer we hear 99% of the time, so if it’s a keeper to us, than it gets handed over to our clients to see! Charleston has so many amazing back drops for weddings, portraits, engagement pictures, family portraits and just about any other type of pictures someone might want to take. We try to give our bride and grooms, well our clients in general, the option of urban, beach, studio, parks, plantation etc for their settings and if time allows we’ll squeeze in as many variations as they would like.

Charleston Beach Weddings and Beach Portraits Get a Lift of Hope

Ahh we all love the beach, well most of us, and with it comes grand thoughts of beach weddings and planning the ten year family get together in Charleston with a wonderful family portrait session on the beach. For those of you local and those considering visiting Charleston that have thought about having a beach wedding here or doing some family portraits on the beach may have never thought that it is actually considered illegal on one of the beaches here to do professional photography. IOP, the beach closest to Mt. Pleasant and bordering Sullivan’s Island has actually had a blanket law in place for many years that keeps professional photography at a distance. The law, from our understanding, was designed to keep vendors from uglying up the beach by soliciting locals and tourist’s with chair rentals, umbrella rentals, hot dog stands etc but unfortunately pro photography falls under that law as well. In fact, for those that do have weddings on that beach, they were only able to have standing ceremonies because no chairs, flowers, alters etc(at least professional looking) were allowed or you could receive a hefty fine that scared many local professionals and also swayed brides into moving to plan b on their dream wedding. Well it seems there is a swift breeze of hope coming thanks to some diligent local photographers fighting to get us excluded from this blanket law. It seems there was a planning commission meeting where they have agreed to send a change in the law to council to vote on. This change would allow professional photography on the beach, but no solicitation on the beach. This news was presented to us just yesterday and is all we know of right now but we will keep you all posted as we hear more!

Charleston Editorial Bridal Shoot- On The Farm

A couple quick pix from a recent photo shoot that was for a local bridal store. Though our style is referred to many times as magazine style by our clients we refer to ourselves as editorial style wedding and portrait photographers. It is essentially the same thing and we love to bring that sensibility to just about anybody we photograph. We know it may seem like we photograph a lot of models but we actually do not. There are occasions like from fashion week and when we do shoots like this one that actually did involve a working model, but we actually prefer to photograph more everyday people that are not models per say and make them/you look like you could be in a magazine. It’s personally much more rewarding for us and taking a photograph just to make a pretty picture is not that interesting to us nor is it usually all that interesting to look at. Val, the model pictured, has a wonderful elegance to her that we knew we wanted to capture as well as a sense of angelic almost statuesque quality. The focus for the shoot was about the dress and we wanted the images, the dress, to have life but have the viewer feel like they could imagine themselves in the dress rather than just seeing the model in the dress.

The Twilight saga “Eclipse” Pre-Party, Blood Drive, and Movie Premier were once again a smash hit thanks to all of you! We would sincerely like to thank all of you for coming out to support and enjoy the days events! We raised over $1200.00 for the American Red Cross and 24 pints of blood thanks to you. Believe it or not people do not give blood as readily as they used to and this is actually a very large number for one event.
For those of you that do not know, we started Charleston Red Carpet, along with a couple other local businesses that focuses on creating fun events to raise money and awareness for causes in our community. This post highlights our recent event to raise money and blood for the American Red Cross. We tied it together with the release of the new Twilight movie “Eclipse”.
All pictures were shot on location. We set up one photo area at the pre-party and one at the theater. Lighting was designed to emulate the movie poster and the clouds and titling were added in post. Happy July 4th Weekend!!

Ahh it looks like the Charleston weather gods have handed us a stunningly perfect holiday weekend. The mid seventies is just about as good as anyone can ask for on a weekend like this! Most likely, with almost hourly temp changes here off this south eastern coast we will creep toward the warmer for the boaters, but stay breezy pleasant for just walking around and enjoying this awesome landscape! Happy 4th–I’m sure you’ll be enjoying it no matter what you are doing! Cheers-

As we move quickly into the month of July we realize the heat is upon and bearing down on us–relentlessly! Outside shooting is reaching minimal time exposure and lots of photographers are gonna suffer. We built and planned on the design of the studio to withstand all seasons. Comfortable to work in the dead of the winter or the top of the summer and still have the character, space, charm and versatility to make thing’s happen with the most flexibility. Therefore we built our studio in the heart of where we want to shoot all the time. So even on the hottest of days we can step out, grab some pictures within walking distance, and then back inside for a cool refreshment, an AC hit, bathroom break or even use it to take pictures in(hmmmm)…then onto the next creative idea. This keeps our obstacles at a minimum and our work flow at a max!! So contact us anytime, with any idea’s because were bound to be able to make it happen no matter the weather condition’s! We were even contacted recently as a back up plan for someone’s beach wedding. It was supposed to rain all day, and as a back up plan, they wanted to use the studio for the ceremony in case it looked like it was going to rain. We said yes of course, we loved the idea!

Sucker Jeans Uses King Street Pix For New Marketing!

Yesterday a great new clothing brand, Sucker Jeans, negotiated a deal with us to use our photos for their marketing and advertising! This year we set up a small portrait station backstage at Charleston Fashion Week and would capture the models looks and create photographs before they hit the runway. The image below is one of the photographs we created backstage this year that moved Sucker Jeans to contact us. Founder, Cary Weber explained how our images defined the very feeling he wants to convey with his brands image without even speaking with us. He went on to say how our style naturally seems to be already hitting the mark in expressing the feeling he wants attached to his products. This, of course, is very flattering for us. When we started King Street Studios, it is and has been, extremely important to stay true to our style and continually move forward gravitating more and more towards a uniquely definitive brand. So when a company on the brink of exploding nationally by creating their own new leading edge brand gets us, we’ll–we feel, we just may be on our way!! As we spoke with them about their long journey through all their struggles and obstacles along the way to discover they have, and are, creating some first times in their industry–we feel very proud to be connecting with some unique thinkers!!
