Extract from an article published in the August 2011 edition of the Dudley Camra "Ales & Tales" written by Carol Kelly:

"Dave and I first visited Kinver in 1984, when we lived in Perton, Wolverhampton. With four pubs listed in the Good Beer Guide, we visited regularly most weekends to see the beautiful area of Kinver Edge, the sandstone Rock Houses, and lovely canal walks.

We came to live here in May 1986 and at that time there were 10 pubs:

The Crown and Anchor - M & B *

The New Rose and Crown (The Spring) - Banks's *

The Royal Exchange - Banks‟s

The Old Plough - Simpkiss *

The Plough and Harrow, (The Steps) - Bathams

The Olde White Harte - Banks's

The George and Dragon - Ansells *

The Cross - Hansons

The Vine - Bass

*now lost to housing.

We had t-shirts printed in 1988 for our son's Godfather party. "The Kinver 10" listing the pubs on the front of the shirt. Dave thinks he first visited the Con Club one Kinver Country Fayre Day. He became a member after a little while and as it increased it's range in real ale, Dave told Steve the Steward of the club that this place should be in the beer guide. With an introduction to Dudley CAMRA scorers, eventually the rest is history.

Kinver is now home to a brewery and the CAMRA National Club of the Year 2011, The Constitutional Club. We still have 5 pubs all serving real ale:

The Cross is now Black Country Ales and guests.

The Vine is now an Enterprise Inn and serves both Kinver and Enville

The Plough and Harrow – Batham‟s

The Royal Exchange and Olde White Hart – Marstons.

It is a lovely place to live and a great place to visit!"

The Cross Inn at Kinver held a beer festival from 11th to 14th August 2011. Kinver Brewery was represented by three ales.

Golden strong bitter with centennial hop bite that overwhelms the fleeting malty sweetness and drives through to the long dry finish. ABV 5.8%

Kinver Half Centurion wins a Silver Medal at the Great British Beer Festival in the Strong Bitter Category.

HALF CENTURION was brewed to celebrate the 50th birthdays of both founders of the Kinver Brewery Company. A 5.0% pale premium bitter with hop and citrus flavours

Kinver Country Fayre

Kinver Brewery were pleased to supply beer to the Kinver Country Fayre held in Stag Meadow on the 19th June.

Over 10,000 visitors were entertained by a variety of attractions including a medieval re-enactment, jousting, shire horses, Kinver Brewery's own Morris man Ian and the Sedgley Morris, live music, vintage cars, dog show, local crafts, stalls selling local produce, and of course a beer tent selling only locally made pies and beer from the villages of Kinver and Enville.

The kinver Country Fayre committee wanted to promote local produce and 8 casks of Enville ale and 8 casks of Kinver beer were purchased to provide a mixture of beer styles and strengths:

Carol and Pete from Kinver Brewery volunteered to sell the beer together with volunteers from Enville brewery and Dudley CAMRA. The thirsty visitors drank the bar dry.

Kinver Beers were delivered by Horse and Dray to the Kinver Constitutional Club to celebrate them winning the Camra Club of the Year.

The beers were delivered by the Clydesdale Heavy Horses Noah and Wallace, in association with members of the Midland Heavy Horse Association

The journey started at the Cat Inn at Enville, collected beer from the Brewery in Kinver, and delivered to The Vine Inn, The Cross Inn at Kinver and the Constitutional Club, where Kinver Brewery Ales can be regularly enjoyed.

Brewer 'Kinver Dave' with John Carter of Stourbridge CAMRA

The ingredients of Kinver beer are local water, malted barley to provide a source of starch to ferment, yeast and flavourings such as hops. There are several steps in the brewing process, which include mashing, boiling, fermenting and barrelling.

Various ground brewing grains, or "grist", are poured into the grist hopper feeding the mash tun. The milling process splits and grinds the malt increasing the surface area, making it easier to absorb water and release the natural starches.

The grist and water are placed into the Kinver Brewery mash tun, where they are mixed to form a cereal mash. Naturally occuring enzymes in the malt convert the starch into fermentable sugars

The result of the mashing process is a sugar rich liquid or "wort" which is then filtered as it is transferred to the Kinver Brewery brewing kettle, or "Copper". Hops are added to enhance the flavour, and the misture is boiled.

Hops are added early in the boil for bittering, topped up in the middle of the boil and again later for aroma (so the aroma doesn't get boiled off).

After boiling, the wort goes through the heat exchanger, and the cooled wort is transferred to one of the two Famous Kinver Brewery fermenters. Yeast is added to start the fermentation process and convert the sugars to alcohol. More hops are added to enhance the flavour and aroma.

Finally, the beer is tasted and transferred to the barreling section.
