Wendy’s New Frosty Waffle Cone

Wendy’s recently came out with Frosty Waffle Cones, putting their famous frosty dessert into oversized waffle cones.

I love waffle cones. I sometimes go to certain frozen yogurt shops simply because they offer waffle cone bits as one of the topping options. I can’t think of any other major fast food brand that offers waffle cones, so I was really excited to try the Wendy’s Frosty Waffle Cone.

I first learned about the new product on Twitter. The Twitter campaign was quite clever. It started by Wendy’s asking its followers what was the best way to eat a Frosty, other than just with a spoon. This led to some interesting and creative suggestions. At the conclusion of the discussion, Wendy’s revealed that they thought the best way was to eat it in a cone, and thus announcing the debut of the waffle cone.

So last weekend I popped into my local Wendy’s and saw the promotion.

Currently they offer vanilla and chocolate. We got one of each flavor. The waffle cone was pretty big, like your standard oversized waffle cone, and inside was about as much frosty as you usually get with a small Frosty.

Fruit Bars

With the weather warming up, I’m excited to start making summer desserts again. Last year, I started making my own ice pops and came up with quite a few yummy ones. I hope to add to that recipe collection this year as well.

To start things off, here are some super easy fruit bars. I’m a sucker for desserts where you can see fruit pieces inside.

Swoon Dessert Bar

We had some friends visiting recently and decided to take them to Swoon for the unique dessert tasting experience.

One change since our initial visit is that if you want to share a dessert flight, there is a $5 surcharge. However, that charge is waived if you order an a la carte dessert (which are around $7). This seems to be the best way to go, so Mr. K and I shared one dessert flight and one a la carte dessert.

Green Tea Latte

I’d been wanting to try the green tea latte since my last visit, so this time I finally ordered it. It was quite good, though the temperature was a little on the lukewarm side.

Amuse Bouche
Strawberry thyme sorbet, olive oil, chocolate crumble, dried strawberry chip

Cold, refreshing, and a pleasant way to start the dessert tasting.

First Course
Smoked Salmon Puff, Mascarpone, Capers, Dill

I’m not used to having a savory dessert but was definitely curious. While this was a tasty bite, it definitely felt more like an appetizer or an amuse bouche for a start of the meal rather than a dessert.

Easy Strawberry Tiramisu

If you love tiramisu, but always have been too intimidated to try making it yourself, this recipe is super easy.

I wish I had time to really decorate the top layer with some whole strawberries, but I was in a rush. Oh well, there’s always next time.

It sometimes amazes me what comes out of my kitchen on a whim. I had been all set to make another recipe when I came across an image for strawberry tiramisu. What? I’d never even heard of strawberry tiramisu.

McDonald’s Egg White Delight McMuffin

Is it me or does McDonald’s do a really good job at promoting the heck out of new products? I feel like there are new items at other fast food chains that never make my radar, but I don’t think I’ve ever missed out learning about a new McDonald’s item.

One of their latest products is the healthier Egg White Delight McMuffin. (More information at the end of the post on how to get it for just $1.) I’ve always enjoyed McDonald’s Egg McMuffin, so I was really curious how the healthier makeover would stand up.

The sandwich swaps out a regular egg with only egg whites, uses extra lean canadian bacon, and replaces the American cheese with white cheddar.(...)

Peanut Butter and Jelly Mug Cake

It’s peanut butter and jelly time! After so many different versions of peanut butter mug cake, it was time to make a peanut butter and jelly version.

Okay it’s actually a peanut butter and jam version because I had this delicious homemade jam gifted to me, but you can use jelly too.

I originally thought it would be nice if the jam stayed in the middle, creating a nice surprise when you dig in. But when it cooked, the jam burst through. I actually like how it looks with the jam bubbling over.(...)

Nolbu

Nolbu recently opened, replacing Apple House. It’s located in the plaza with Chopstix and the new location for Tea Garden.

Apple had only been open a few months and was quite popular when it suddenly shut down for supposed renovations. I’m not quite sure what happened but the new Nolbu appears to be under different management.

The owner stated that they specialize in Bossam, but the quantity of the Bossam entree is quite large, so we decided against ordering it.

Complimentary Banchan

The selection was limited and this may have been the smallest serving of banchan we’ve ever had. Each one was about one bite’s worth. What we tasted was good, but I would have liked to see something beyond just vegetarian ones and would have liked them to provide bigger quantities.

Beef Bulgogi

Mr. K didn’t seem very inspired by the menu options so he stuck to his favorite. I never find much to say about this dish as it seemed the same everywhere we try it.(...)

Blooming Nutella Chocolate S’more Pull Apart Bread

Two years ago I made “Blooming” Pizza Bread, basically a pull apart pizza bread that is shaped and cut like Outback’s famous Blooming Onion Appetizer.

Recently, I made a sweet version with a chocolate bread base, toasted marshmallows, and topped with a Nutella drizzle.

New Stone Brewing- Liberty Station

The popular Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens just opened a second location in Liberty Station. I was so excited when I found out because I’m always too lazy to drive to the original Escondido location.

I’ve always enjoyed Stone mainly for the beer variety, but we decided to have lunch during our visit. I highly recommend making reservations because they were pretty booked and were turning away walk-ins who wanted a table in the dining room.

Arrogant Bastard, Monkey Paw Sweet Georgia

Of course no visit to Stone is complete without some beers.

Bruschetta BLT Sandwich

The menu actually had quite a variety, with a lot of Asian influenced dishes. However, we’ve never been too impressed with the food and we took a peek at some of the entrees at other tables and thought they looked small for the price, so I stuck with a simple sandwich.

This was disappointing. It felt like biting into a giant lettuce filled salad without any dressing. The sandwich was made up mainly of raw lettuce, tomatoes marinated in oil and vinegar, and a few strips of bacon. It was really bland and I didn’t really care for the bread either.(...)

Blueberry Muffin With Streusel Topping Mug Cake

This may be the streusel talking, but I am totally in love with this mug cake.

I’ve been trying to make mug cakes outside of the traditional ones. So the last few weeks I worked on this blueberry muffin one. And no muffin is complete without streusel.

I love blueberry muffins. And I love that now I can make myself a single serving one for breakfast instead of making a dozen of them and then trying to eat a dozen of them in 2-3 days.(...)
