Colleen's Big Catholic Wedding

My featured bride today is a wonderful client of mine. We actually went to high school together but didn't connect until years later. She has put her trust in me and has sent her mom & sister to be my clients as well. It made being a part of her wedding extra special because her inner circle is made up of some fantastic women!
Speaking of fantastic women.....holy huge wedding party! Just to give you an idea....

Though they look intimidating this is my second wedding with this group of girlfriends and I gotta say they are THE best to work with. Not only are they gorgeous but they are so laid back!

With that being said I want to show you the details of each lady's updo/style so there are lots of photos but trust me each one is unique!

Sweet Kristen- always ready to go boho chic she wanted a loose "messy" braid. She wears it well! Braids are not going anywhere so embrace them!

This next stunner I keep saying reminds me of princess Jasmine! Seriously?!? Crazy! The focus here was to not look too done. She wanted to achieve lots of volume while maintaining an effortless look. This style is great for women with LOTS of hair!

I love it when hair tucks just right in all the right spots and hers did just that! This bridesmaids length was to her shoulders and that is my favorite length to work with!

Hello braids :) this braid implementation is great for women who want to show off their length while getting it out of their face but still want interest in the style.

The beautiful Maid of Honor! Kim has a lot of hair! So I was glad she wanted a braid within the updo because it helps minimize the amount of hair that needs to be pinned. I just love this design! She has great taste!

Another head of hair! The grooms lovely sister let me play around a bit with her updo and I think she pulled off the edgy but elegant style beautifully!

Sweet Jenny, I mean you can't ask for better hair than Jenny's. Naturally curly and natural color, what?!? She is SO easy going, literally I think she would let me do whatever I wanted and well clearly she can pull off anything!

The soft swept over the should look. The braids give it a little more interest and stability in holding the hair in its place.

The brides Aunt was a treat! She wanted her hair up and it was perfect for such a special occasion!

The awesome Matron of Honor. She had super short hair and looked stunning with it all pinned up!

A college buddy, a stunning bride! Jill's Wedding

Sooo back in my college days there was this spunky girl on my dorm floor named Jill. When you meet Jill you just love her instantly! She was one of my first "haircuts" using regular household scissors (I mean that's trust) so I was truly tickled when years later she contacted me to do her wedding hair!!!

Jill is a great example of why "trial runs" can be so helpful for both the bride & the stylist. When we first sat down we talked I did her hair she liked it then later contacted me and said she wanted something a little less structured more organic and effortless.... I'm sooo glad she did because the result fit her perfectly!

Fall in Love

Last October I had the honor of being a bridesmaid in my sister in law, Gabrielle's wedding. It was beautiful, there is something so romantic about fall weddings.

I was thrilled when she asked me to also do the hair! She is great to work with & I knew her other bridesmaids would be great fun as well.

I truly fell in love with Gabrielle's hair that day

The unique part that she added, which was genius, was she asked her grandmothers for old jewelry to see if she could implement them somehow. We looked through a bunch of great pieces and came across these earrings and I knew they were perfect for her style...

I couldn't get my hands on a picture of every beautiful bridesmaid but here are the photos of the hair I could grab, enjoy!

Kristen's Wedding

Even though it was last summer it definitely has to be on my blog! Kristen is such a sweetheart! I've known her since high school and she runs around with a great group of ladies! One of her bridesmaids, Colleen is getting married this October. I'm thrilled to be doing the wedding hair!

My New Move

I realize how ridiculously long it's been since my last post. Since giving birth to my daughter last July I've been slacking on my blog but luckily not on the hair ;)

Soooo much has happened in the past year, the arrival of my beautiful daughter (with a great head of hair), weddings, special events, and most recently I've moved salons!

I'm planning on posting PLENTY of catch up pictures from previous events but wanted to dedicate this post to my new stomping ground, The Beauty Lounge

Located right off Main Street in downtown Carmel.

May Weddings

I have some pictures I wanted to share from 2 of my May weddings this year. The first was the bride and her maid of honor. These 2 were SO easy going! We never had a run through, never even met before her big day. The bride got my name from another client and came in the morning of her wedding. She was very sweet and was a stunning bride!

Her maid of honor was a fire cracker! Full of energy she had a sassy short cut and wanted to soften it up with some waves.

My next gorgeous bunch was just as much fun! Natalie, the bride and her sisters are family friends. Their natural beauty makes my job alot easier! You can catch pictures of her sister Stephanie's wedding from my previous post: 2011 Wedding Highlights. For this day the bride had her own stylist so I got to do all the bridesmaids and mother of the groom! Enjoy the pictures!

Dancing Queens: Prom 2012

It's that time again in high school, PROM! I had a great group of girls this year. They were from all over Brebeuf, Guerin, Brownsburg, Carmel and Fishers.
There was definately two common themes, one was braids and the other was pulled softly up with waves/curls. Gone are the days of super tight overly hairsprayed updo's and I'm sooo happy about it!

Enjoy the pictures of these beauties!!!

The first group of pictures will be of braids. They are the perfect touch to any updo when you need your hair off your face ie dancing!

The rest of the girls really wanted the soft look, not too "done". With some of them we were still able to implement braids to complete the look.

It was really fun working with all of them! They were so sweet! I only wish I had pictures of the completed look with dresses and everything!!

2011 Wedding Highlights

I don't know how we got here, but 2012 has arrived and it arrived VERY fast! With the new year brings me new brides and bridesmaids, prom updo's, new hairstyles and dramatic makeovers...can't wait!

I wanted to take some time and post some pictures of my 2011 wedding parties. It was a great year and I feel so lucky to always get amazing clients who trust me with one of the most important days of their lives....for that I thank all of you! Enjoy the gorgeous girls!!!

Valerie's Wedding!

I met Valerie through one of my sweetest clients, Kourtney. These two have been best friends since college. Once Valerie decided to book me for her wedding I was able to spend some time with these two ladies together and they are hilarious! You can tell their friendship will last a lifetime, so its no surprise Kourtney was one of the Maids Of Honor.

When I first met Valerie I thought "holy hair", she has some of the prettiest hair I've ever seen...its also the longest and the thickest!!! She told me she wanted it up for the wedding and I knew I had my work cut out for me! Just to give you an idea here is Valerie's hair when I tried (unsuccessfully) to convince her to do half up half down :)

I'm so happy we decided to do all up because she looked so elegant! Here is the beautiful bride once her hair was complete.

Once I get a picture of her in her dress I will post it on here asap!

Now onto the bridesmaids... Valerie's only requirement was that everyone have their hair up. The ladies basically let me do whatever I wanted and I had fun! Their hair did everything I wanted it to. Enjoy the photos!

HAIR DONATION

So we all talk about donating hair, many love the idea of it but few go through with it. Hair is so important to us and can become such a security blanket. I love when people actually go through with the donation. This is an homage to a few of my clients that did it!

The first two are Valerie and her daughter Olivia. These photos are the before and after and I think they look so beautiful!

They are a pretty cute pair! They are still enjoying their short hair styles and are really happy they did such a good thing.

Grace is the next client who recently donated her hair. I've known Grace for a long time and as long as I've known her she has had and loved her long hair.

So it took some going back and forth but she went for it and it did her justice!

A special thank you to Valerie, Olivia and Grace! You are all beautiful on the inside and out!

We all know someone who has had cancer and lost hair during their battle. This just goes to show a little hair goes a long way!

Special Occasions

This weekend I was busy with week 1 of prom. I had a great group of girls in my chair. They were from different schools including, Cathedral, Westfield and Hamilton Southeastern. Prom is such a big deal in a teenage girl's life so I was happy the ladies trusted me to help them feel beautiful for the special evening (not that they needed much help at all, so pretty!!!)

The first two girls are Abby & Allie. They were cracking me up the whole time. The one request they had was no "poofy" hair. No problem!

My next client, Erica was inspired by a red carpet picture of Jennifer Aniston. The look is simple yet classy.

Kelsey was very easy going and up for anything. She just wanted it back somehow so here is what we came up with.

To end my beauty crazed weekend I was lucky enough to do the hair for my darling cousin's first communion. I made a special house call for this one and we had alot of fun! Included below are some pictures of Madelyn as well as a short video from my flip video (thanks to my husband). Her sister, Meghan is trying not so subtly to sneak her way onto camera ;) Enjoy!

Rocking Reds!

Its been waaaay to long since my last post. I've been wanting to showcase how fantastic red heads are right now so this is long overdue!

Red is a hard color to pull off, but when you can do it heads will turn! One of my great friends, Angie, has trusted me to turn her from a brunette to a rich red head with some chestnut lowlights and I couldn't be happier with the results! She is beyond gorgeous and currently expecting so she's full on glowing in my current pictures. Here are a few of Angie before.....

She came in with a lot of violet in her hair and wanted a more natural look. I added some highlights and darkened her red a bit and here are the results...

Summer is right around the corner and that means WEDDING'S and lots of them! Its one of my favorite times of year and my schedule is filling up for updo's. Whether your a bride, bridesmaid or mother of the bride or groom you need to start scheduling your appointment! My calendar is filling up quick but I still have some availability.... therefore I thought I would share some of my favorite styles I have done over the past few years.

Straight Talk

So I had a few VERY curly haired clients come in (one of them being my adorable niece) the salon. They both had extremely long and tight curly hair. I love curly hair so much but we decided to switch things up and straighten their hair. Of course I completely spaced taking a before picture while their hair is in lovely curls and instead only got the before of their hair blown out and kind of large. I do promise the curls they have are fabulous! The first client is Kathleen whom I would take as my hair model any day! Here is her before we use the straightener....

The straightner I used heats to 450 degrees in abouuuut 17 seconds, its crazy and I love it! While her hair was wet I used Aguage ultra staightening gel followed by a tiny bit of Aquage silkening oil. Here is Kathleen silky smooth...

My cutie pie niece, Mariah, was my next straightening client. Mariah's curls were more coarse so I decided to use a mini Brazilian Blowout mask on her before we got started. The mask was on for about 10 minutes under heat then we rinsed and got started. Here is Mariah before...

After the Brazilion Blowout mask I also used the Aquage silkening oil both while it was wet then while it was dry. Here is Mariah looking so much older than before I can hardly stand it....

Sooo cute! These are two gorgeous girls and they were so fun to be with! It is really refreshing for me to be able to do something different to clients every once in a while that isn't permanent. Thanks to Kathleen & Mariah for letting me take your pictures no matter what your hair looked like!

One of my favorite things to do to hair is use hot rollers. They are perfect for almost all types of hair. They literally put the bounce back into your look. If you have medium to long hair you will want to blow dry your hair after washing it and then put large rollers in. The best thing is you can go about finishing getting ready and take them out once they've cooled. Here is a before and after to show you the fun results!

Erin has beautiful hair that is long enough to use large hot rollers, if you have shoulder length you would want medium size. You want to use the rollers right after blow drying because your hair will take the heat and curl better and then you get this gorgeous look....

Then style as needed and your ready to go!

I also wanted to give you all some ideas of another type of curl. Those of us who have naturally curly hair and may get little overwhelmed by it here are some tips. Moisture is key so once you get out of the shower keep your hair very damp, comb it then scrunch it with whatever curl product you like (I like aquage curl gel or cream) take a towel and scrunch the dampness out of the hair with it. Then blow dry with a diffuser. At that point your hair will look kind of big but it will calm down :) One way to help with that is to take a curling iron and manipulate a few of the front pieces just to soften the look. The great part about this is how easy it can be whipped up into an updo with these curls. Even the next day if you don't like to wash your hair everyday you can get out the curling iron, touch up a few pieces and you have your "honeymoon hair" its one of my favorite looks! Here is a picture of that hair type in an updo (I used the exact steps mentioned above on her)

Happy Holidays

The Holidays are here and that means party time! We all want to look extra special this time of year mostly because well its just fun! This is when we run into old friends and family and want to be looking our best. One of my favorite special occasion looks is false eyelashes! They are so easy and they just really make everyone's eyes pop. I've decided to offer them at the salon, its only $15 and well worth it!

My beautiful and fabulous sister-in-law, Jaclyn, was in town over the weekend for some holiday stuff. I wanted her to be my muse and thankfully she was up for it! Jaclyn has naturally curly hair, its gorgeous. She wanted to donate it so recently we made a big cut!

To give her the "girls night out look" I straightened her hair .....

Then added the false eye lashes. The before and after is below...LOVE IT!

Winter Hair

So whether we like it or not winter has arrived...ugh...
We all know how hair changes with the seasons so I thought I would give you some tips to make it through the long winter.
Usually women like to go a shade darker for fall and winter. Often they run into the problem of having "flat" hair. To get a little volume back in your life highlights do the trick! They don't have to be super blond but you can do some warm honey colored ones to add a little dimension and also give you that extra boost.

We all know what its like to have static in our hair once the air goes dry here are some items that I can't live without when that time of the year rolls around. First we all want to hairspray our hair when this happens, don't. It is because the air is so dry and our hair lacks moisture. All you need is a small pinch of serum (whether its for straightening, anti frizz or shine) this will do the trick. I love the Aquage brand and sell it at 541 Salon.
Also this is when you may want to switch to moisturizing shampoo (for all those who color their hair make sure its color protecting shampoo). Lastly if all else fails and your hair just doesn't want to cooperate .......dryer sheets. Weird I know but hey whatever works! They also take the static out of clothing and some say keep mosquitos away....
So those are my quick and easy tips for fighting the winter hair!

Cancun Wedding Fiesta

This is my first "official" blog post so please bare with me if its awkward :) One of my favorite parts of being a stylist is doing weddings. I love everything about wedding updo's! So I was more than excited to be asked by an amazing bride, Laura, to hop on a plane and do everyone in her wedding party's hair in lovely Mexico!
