Wow! Let me start with saying THANK YOU to everyone that participated. This contest exceeded my expectations and loved that everyone had fun participating. Thank you to my clients that summited their favorite image from their KLP session in 2011. I know those pictures share a special place in your heart. I also want to say welcome to all my new "likes" from Facebook. If you are local to Atlanta, I look forward to booking a session with you in the future.

I had the pleasure of photographing Charlee for her 1st birthday! She and her friend Sophie did their session together and they had a blast together. Charlee was such a lady with her smash cake. It was her first time tasting sugar and wasn't too sure about it.

This past year as been a wonderful year for Kirsten Lee Photography! To showcase all my amazing families, I thought it would be fun to hold a "Best of 2011" photo contest. Each family was asked to summit their favorite KLP photo from 2011. Please take the time to head over to the Kirsten Lee Photography Facebook page and vote for your favorite photo!

Details of the Contest.

- Today, January 9th, the "Best of 2011" photo album is posted on Facebook.

-The client with the most "likes" of their photo will win a 16x20 canvas of their photo.

Sophie (Children)

Last week I had the pleasure of photographing sweet Sophie! Her 1st birthday is just a few weeks away so this session was about about her birthday. Sophie and her best friend Charlee did their pictures together. We had a fabulous time playing dress up and eating cake. I think her favorite part was tasting yummy cake!

Photographing a Christmas Tree (Tutorial)

Since it was Christmas time, I thought I would share a "How To" on photographing your Christmas tree. This is how to capture those christmas lights and get them to "sparkle". You know that I avoid using the flash whenever possible. Thanks to my daughter for being my model tonight. She is such a good sport.

So here are two shots.

In order to get these shots, I had to do the following:

1. Turn off all the lights in the room but the Christmas tree lights.

2. Turn your camera on MANUAL. Yes, I know it is scary but once you try it, you always want to shoot in manual.

3. Go to your menu on your camera and click on the ISO setting. Set to 800.

4. Set your f-stop to the lowest setting possible. This meaning that it is a wide apeture, allowing more light to come in. I had mine set to 1.8. I use a prime lens of 35 mm but a standard lens will have a lowest f-stop of 3.5.

5. With a low f-stop, you will need your shutter speed to be at around 1/50. If you have a higher f-stop, you need to adjust this. Trial and error works best.

I did a little editing in Lightroom 3. I brighten, sharpened a little, and added a little contrast. I also used the Spot Removal tool because I had a few reflectors from the christmas lights.

Harper Clan (Family)

Last Sunday the Harper Family was my LAST session of 2011. Just in time for Christmas! They wanted me to come over to their house for pictures which was PERFECT. They have about 7 acres of land and you would have never known we were in the good suburbs of the ATL. I love all the shots we got and it was so hard to pick which ones made it to the website. Just a little information about the first one. The sign says "Dad's Chicks". They are currently raising 3 beautiful daughters along with 6 cute chickens. I thought a photo opportunity was necessary. :)

Stella (Newborn)

Stella Marie {3 Weeks Old}

I photographed this adorable and tiny little girl last week! Even though she was wide awake, we got some adorable shots. Her big sister was super cute as well and VERY proud. Her daddy shared the meaning behind her name and thought I would share with you. I thought it was very insightful.

Stella, means "Star" in Latin and Marie is, of course, another name
for Mary. We named Stella after two of the blessed virgin Mary's
titles: Stella Maris, "or star of the sea" and Stella Matutina, or
"the morning star."

Stars were and are used as a guide to safety and to new life. Mary was
identified from the very earliest days of the Church as the guiding
light to her son, Jesus, for all the people of the earth.

The name "Stella Matutina" was given to Mary because, like a morning
star, she heralded the end to the long dark night of original sin
which preceded the coming of the Savior. The morning star is a sign
of the coming day, the announcement of the rising sun; it is a promise
of light. Mary is a morning star not for and through herself, but she
is only the reflection of the creator and redeemer. She exalts his
glory. When she emerges from darkness we know that the day is near.

This past week I did a photo session with Charlee. She was the BEST super model for being just 9 months! Ha. Really, her mom rocks with the adorable outfits so we had fun dressing her up.

Max (Newborn)

This is Max at just 2 weeks old. His mommy is a good friend of mine and I was so excited to be able to capture some great photos of her sweet family of four! Max was such a good baby the whole session and his big sister did great too!

They kept Max's gender a surprise during their pregnancy. Since they didn't know if it was a boy or girl, they nicknamed him "Baby Bee". Loved the props that his Mommy had for him and their matching shirts. Too cute.

The day before Thanksgiving, the Sorensen Family met me bright and early for photos. It was a tad chilly out but the kids humored me for a fun great session.

I had the pleasure of photographing the whole Spanier Family before Thanksgiving. Back in the summer I got the honor of photographing just a few of the grandchildren but this time it was the WHOLE clan. The kids were so good and did great! I know that the grandparents were proud of their adorable grand babies.

Team Wittwer {as they call themselves} was my Seeds of Faith Silent Auction winner from last Spring! They wanted to save their session for the Holidays and I think their session turned out wonderful. Seeds of Faith Preschool is where my children attend and I love that they are able to be at a wonderful Christian based preschool. Mendi is such an amazing mom raising three beautiful children.

Met the Schillinger Clan in Downtown Douglasville before Thanksgiving. It was a fun session because they just found out that they are having another BOY. I loved how this session just captured their sweet family. Peyton cracked me up and loved giving kisses.

The same day that I met the Walker family, I did a session with the Ford family as well. They were first, so it was a little chilly but once the sun came out, we were just fine. The kids were so well behaved and did great! Delia even enjoyed the leaves some.

Some of you know this sweet family is well…my family. This is my Uncle, Aunt, and sweet cousin. You will find Dylan's photo on the header as an infant. It was fun to meet them in Atlanta take some photos with trains. Such a great location. We also headed over to this antique store and they had tons of things outside. Made for fun photos!

The Vaughan family had their Christmas session a few weeks ago. We managed to squeeze few maternity photos in there, as they are expecting a little BOY this March. Doesn't Mama look great?!? She is officially a BOY Mom. I loved our location with all the fall leaves. The boys were troopers for me due to be a little tired. But we managed some adorable shots.

The West family came all the way from Alabama for photos with me. Honored that they wanted me to take their family photos. They said they hadn't had pictures taken as a family since their youngest was a baby. She certainly isn't a baby anymore. They were a great family and the kids were great sports for me! Even if they did think I was a little strange.

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing Aaron and his family. Aaron is the oldest of three and heading to collage next year. When asking him where he wanted to go, he said his first choice of was Savannah School of Art. He wants to do graphic arts. I thought his photos and style matched his love for art perfectly. According to his mother, he did have a hat that matched perfectly with his shoes, but she kindly rejected the idea. :)
