Prime minister crop insurance scheme

My dear farmers Brother and sisters,

The news of 'prime minister crop insurance scheme' must have reached to you. Farmers in our country again again fails in the risks regarding crop losses because of diseases and natural calamities and by falling prices over last eight years. We have taken several steps to those who faced the problems.

There have been insurances schemes for farmers before as well but there were not successful because of some reasons ranging from high high premium rates to low claim value an non coverages of localized crop loss. As a result not more than 20% of farmers opted for crop insurance and those who did faced many difficulties to get their remaining price.

It was against backdrop that we engaged in detailed consultation with states. Farmers and insurances companies following which i know place before farther brothers and sisters,the farmer friendly prime minister crop insurance. This scheme has following features.

(1) This is the biggest ever government contribution to crop insurances.

(2) As a result will have to pay lowest premium rate

(3) Government will handle to remaining financial burden

(4) There will be one only one premium rate for each season

for all food grains, oilseeds and pulses -removing all variations in states across all districts and crops
Kharif:2%only|rabi- 1.5% only.

(5) Farmers will get full insurance cover.

(6) For the first time inundation has been included under localized risk cover

(7) For the first time post harvest loses arises out of unseasonal rain have been covered nationally.

This scheme will be implemented from the forthcoming kharif season and it is simple to join and offers maximum security. I welcome your wholehearted participation.

Green Revolution

The green revolution is a time in which the agriculture increased drastically. The green revolution was started in the period of 1930 to late 1960 and the initiative was taken by the american biologist Norman borlaug and also called father of green revolution .

The need of this revolution came when world war 2 came into action and the supply of food was effected which could not meet the proper food requirements of food grains like wheat, maize ,pearl millet and sorghum. It was important to enhance the production of these grains with the limited sources.

Components of green revolution -:

The main components of green revolution are as follows

(1)Use of HYV seeds:

It means the high yield varieties seed which has the better genetic variation, seeds which has the low plant canopy and the height of plant should be less called as ideal plant type.

The HYV seeds are-:

(a)Genetic variation
(b)Less height(Ideotype plant)
(c)Small canopy.

(2)Use of fertilizers:

The fertilizers like nitrogenous, phosphatic,potassic and some micronutrient like zink ,Manganese, copper, nickel,boron. etc.

Fertilizers of different elements-:

(a) Nitrogenous- Ammonium chloride, Urea, CAN(calcium ammonium nitrate),Ammonium nitrate etc.

(b) Phosphatic-: Single super phosphate(16%P), Double super phosphate(32%P), Triple super phosphate(48%P), Di ammonium phosphate (DAP)

(3)Use of pesticides:

Use of pesticides like insecticides, rodenticide, herbicide, fungicide etc

(4) Irrigation:

The heavy irrigation system was used to increase the productivity of land and hence the production.

(5) Farm mechanization:

The use of machines like harrow, cultivators, seed drills ,combine machine etc.

Negative aspects of green revolution-:

(1)The high use of fertilizers and pesticides spoil the soil health

(2) The fertilizers like nitrates causes the disease that is blue baby syndrome.

(3) The chemicals used in cultivation of crops effects the food chain of living beings.

(4) The high use of irrigation turns the soil alkaline by the evaporation.

(5) The farm mechanization increased the bulk density of soil and damages the soil structure.

Agriculture extensions in India

Agriculture skill council of india:

NSFI(national skill foundation of india) is.a lead proposing organization for setting up a sector skill council of agriculture.

ASCI was set up with the support and partnerships of various agriindustry partners. ASCI has been registered as a company under section 25 of companies act 1956 with members from various agriculture bodies like NSAI,NHB, spices board ,mahindra, TAFE,bluestar mahyco etc.

Key strength:

(1)a team will be well devoted for research and projects.
(2)strong linkages with the national and international industry.
(3)it prepares the team with strong execution and capabilities.

Krishi vigyan kendra :

Based on the recommendation of the Education Commission (1964-66) review by the Planning Commission and Inter-Ministerial Committee, and further recommendation by the committee headed by Dr.Mohan Singh Mehta appointed by ICAR in 1973 the idea of establishment of Farm Science Centre (Krishi Vigyan Kendra) was evolved.

Objectives of KBK:

(1) to provide the better and satisfactory knowledge to farmers.
(2) provide awareness to farmers regarding new technology
(3) soil sampling, soil testing and nutrient availability in soil.
(4) help out the farmers in proper and rejuvenation cultivation in order to enhance productivity hence production.

National agriculture insurance scheme :

The NAIS was introduced by the government of India in 1999-2000 lead by shri atal bihari bajpayi.

The various insurances are provided to the farmers by the government as a agriculture extension services.

Insurance is being given when any loss takes place in the crop which is done by the unfavorable weather condition, heavy rain or any other natural calamity, disease and pest attack.

Types of agriculture insurances :

There are various types of insurances which ate provided by the government of India to motivate the farmers.

(1) versha bima yojna (rain insurance)
(2) Farm income insurance
(3) weather based crop insurance scheme.

Kisan credit card :

A kisan credit card is a card to provide affordable credit for farmers in India. It was started by the Government of India, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in 1998-99 to help farmers access timely and adequate credit.

NABARD-:

National bank for agriculture and rural development.

this is the agriculture bank of india established in 12 july 1982 . its main aim is to provide the financial help to the farmers and to motivate them in agriculture production systems.

What is Soil, its Types and Formation

What is soil?

Soil is the basic unit of agriculture. The production of any crop begins with the soil. Here is the proper definition of soil.

Soil is the natural, three dimensional and dynamic body by which plant gets its nutrition like water,minerals and gaseous exchange in its roots.

Types of soil:

There are mainly six type of soil and every soil is different in structure and composition.

6 basic soil types are:

Alluvial soil
Black soil
Red soil
Desert soil
Mountain soil
Laterite soil

Alluvial Soil:

The most fertile soil consists of good amount of organic matter,moisture,better soil structure and lack in nitrogen content. Mainly found in northern plane states like U.P, haryana,punjab,bihar the main crops grown are wheat(triticum aistivum),paddy(oryza sativa),maize(zea mays),potato(sollanum tuberosum).

Black soil:

These soils are mainly formed by the lava flow and dark blackish in colour. Mainly found in Gujarat, Maharashtra, part of odisha.

These soils are rick in iron content magnesium and potash but lack in phosphorus content. The main crop grown in these regions is cotton(gossypium.spp).

Red soil:

These soils are red in colour. The reason behind the red colour of these soil is the composition of iron and when iron composition gets low then these soil turns yellowish in colour. These soils are mainly formed in deccan platue regions like odisha,Karnataka,andhra pradesh.

Desert soil:

These soils are not well developed for crop production purpose because of the excessive evaporation. The annual rainfall in these regions are quite low. Due to less moisture availability these soils have pH more than 7 and hence treat as the alkaline soils. These soils are mainly found in Rajasthan.

Mountain soils:

These soils are formed by the accumulation of organic matter from the growth of the forests. They are found in the Himalayan regions like J&K himachal pradesh and uttarakhand. The main horticultural crops grown are apple and saffron.

Laterite soil:

These soils are formed by the excessive leaching and by the alluviation and illuviation and the entire process called as humification.

These soils are found in the Kerala,Karnataka,odisha.

How The soil forms:

Soil is generally formed by the weathering of rocks. And soil is basically made up of minerals, microorganisms (also called as the soil biota),organic matter,air and water.

Weathering of rocks:

weathering of rocks is the way of soil formation. Here the term weathering means the DISINTEGRATION. The disintegration of the large rock particles into smaller ones to form soil called as WEATHERING OF ROCK.

The weathering of rock is takes place by many ways

by water
by air
organic weathering
temperature
chemical weathering

Factors effecting soil formation:

Few factors are there which influence the soil during its formation.

climate-It consists of temperature, relative humidity, pressure, wind velocity.
parent material- The parent material of soil is rock its nature and characteristics.
Microorganisms- microorganisms are bacteria,fungi,virus etc. The microorganisms helps in the formation of the soil by decomposition of organic material.
