This comic is very close to me because it really happened. A friend was recently fired from her job as a waitress in a sushi restaurant. In some ways, she probably caused it, but it was curious thing when she was fired. The boss is a 60 year old guy who is a typical old-Japan guy: he never has to explain himself, he looks down on women, always feels he has to have the last word, etc.

When he fired my friend, he told her it was because he was worried about her; the grades were low in her college classes and the job might be the cause. After his speech, he realized she might argue that she needs a job, so he quickly added “Anyways, if you still feel like working, go work at some other restaurant.”

I recently read that most Japanese hospitals will now charge a patient much more money if the patient is not already referred by a local clinic. The hospitals are also obligated to tell the patient this(and have them agree) before they are treated.

Takashi Okamura is a Japanese comedian celebrity who I admire very much. He is well known and well liked because he can do so many things: he can make people laugh, act well, and breakdance on tour with huge jpop groups. However, he has admitted that he has always had problem being social and talking with women. I thought he needs the pick-up skills of Mystery!

Currently, I am watching and really enjoying the anime series Kimi ni Todoke. It is about a girl named Sawako, who doesn’t have any confidence about herself. Her classmates even give her the nickname of “Sadako” because they see her as creepy. I somehow remembered the anime Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai, which had a character named Midori Saejima, who is the exact opposite of Sawako. I am sure Midori would instantly cheer up Sawako as soon as they met.

Southern All Stars サザンオールスターズ is a Japanese pop/rock band that has been successful and popular since the middle of the 1970s. In 1995, they released a song called “Man-P’s G*spot”. For Japanese, there are not so many words that we cannot say in public (like curse words), but releasing a song that had the word “G-spot” was a huge deal. It was shocking, but somehow, Southern All Stars took the risk and released this song about making a woman orgasm to the public. It was a huge success and it opened new doors about what singers can talk about in popular songs.

I compare that with Cee Lo’s “Fuck You,” which could not survive on the radio with such risky language.
