Oh, and Hi! I know I haven't posted in quite a long time but my husband traded our Garmin GPS out for some other one.... and I don't know how to work it yet so geocaching has been sidelined for me.

I'm still in the Hoo Haa Travel Bug Race though!

Or I thought I was.

But now, my bug might be MIA! It was retrieved after taking a WONDERFUL hop across the Country back in January. I had high hopes, this was a new geocacher who picked it up so I was excited thinking that they would be anxious to drop it quickly.

But alas... here it is April (almost May) and nothing.
I sent them an email via geocaching.com asking them politely to place the bug as it was in a race and I haven't heard anything back.

Seriously.
My bug has touched 2 hands and only moved once since we started the race. I guess that's what I get for launching it in some random city instead of close to home. I mean seriously, it's Geocaching! Why pick up a bug if you aren't going to place it somewhere else??

Gunny's bug just took a huge leap across the pond (from Japan to California) and I think unless some of our bugs hit international waters, there's not much hope - but I'll still trash talk!

That is, if I could get my bug going so I could at least have something to talk about!!

My poor HooHaa Hippie Travel Bug, I had such high hopes for her as she pulled out of the gates just 7 days after placing her, in a strange town, with no one she knows to come get her.

But it looks like she's stalled in the hands of a geocacher. I'm hoping that they are keeping her around for some awesome drop far, far away. However, more realistically maybe I should just be hoping for a hop into a better spot to get moved faster.

On a serious note, is it rude if I email the cacher asking them to push it along?

It seems as of lately the only cache related things I get to talk about is the HooHaa Travel Bug Race. That's because I'm in my last semester of college and trying to graduate while working full-time and trying to have some resemblance of a normal family. Which doesn't leave much time for caching.

Speaking of the race, you've got to check out HeadHardHat's cartoon of the week! He's added a lot of fun to the race! Even though my little bug is still sitting stagnant in someone's cache stash.. *sigh*

However, I do plan on hitting up Crosspoint Criss-Cross #9 when we go down to Sumter for the Thanksgiving Holiday. And considering we'll be down there almost a week and my husband will be out hunting with the boys for a few days, that will leave me plenty of caching time.

So, maybe my cachlessness will change very soon!

Geocats Racer is on a Roll!

Within the last few weeks Geocats Racer seems to be taking quite a lead over the rest of the HooHaa Racers! Congratulations (gritting teeth)!

There are a few racers that are moving, for for the most part most of our travel bugs are taking a vacation for the winter or something. But, its' not who gets the most mileage in the first month, so hey, the race can change! Like, for example, my willing-of-the-mind that I've been doing directed at the cacher who picked up my little Hippie racer may start working soon and maybe, just maybe I'll get one mile under the ole' peace luvin' travel bug after all!

I'll do an update next week with standings, I've got exams this week, planning for thanksgiving and frankly, until my little travel bug starts seeing some action, who the heck am I to trash talk, right?

Haha.. well, even without miles I'll trash talk! I can't help myself!

So, we have a late addition to the HooHaa Travel Bug Race! Jeff, aka TripCyclone joined the fun with his bug Easy Flyer and looks like he's already ahead of one fine cacher, who's name *cough*gunny*cough* won't be mentioned. Because for a travel bug to travel, it at least has to be placed in a cache!

Welcome Jeff! Good luck and I hope you bring much smack talk to the race!

Oh, and by the way.. could I get all of my cacher friends out there to please do a "drop me" dance for the guy who picked up my bug in Myrtle Beach so he'd go ahead and drop it in another cache. Or maybe he's saving it for the motherload of all drops and plans on doing a 1000+ miles all at once.

What? A girl can hope, can't she?

Looks like the Geocats Racer is taking a very good lead with 777.6 miles to the little TB's name!

Although, I think the cacher who picked it up got confused on the dates and I'm still trying to figure out how that equaled out to 700 miles, but hey.. I'm not winning so I'm going to question everything! HAH!

Good for you Geocats! Good luck! Don't let this nice bump in miles get your hopes too high!

Travel Bug Trash Talkin'

Seriously, I wish I could just post the emails and comments from the awesome racers in the Hoohaa Travel Bug Race because when someone can make me almost fall out of my chair laughing, that's some good stuff right there!

So as it stands:
1st Place:
EMC's Chocolate Chip Cookie, owned by EMC of Northridge has traveled 49 miles for the lead! Seriously, who did she pay off? There's been rumors that she's got his kin-folk moving it for her. That's ok, a family tree can only grow so high!
*also noting that I had to go back and change this because thought EMC was a guy, and turns out she's a girl - so now, the ole' chocolate chip has become my new favorite - besides mine of course! HAH!*

2nd Place:
Champion quilt, from the ringleader himself, softball29 racked up 2 miles and has passed through 2 hands already! Didn't someone tell you it's a race for mileage not how quickly it can be retrieved and dropped?

Discovered or Retrieved:
GoGo T. Urtle from Go Man & Mrs Go has 0 miles but has been discovered! Where will he go?! At least there's hope for this little guy.

Geocats Racer owned by Northwoods Geocache was retrieved from it's first cache, but where o' where will it be traveling to?

Hick's World from the ever trash talking Hick@Heart has been picked up as well with a promise to be dropped off as far as they can! We'll see how far that turns out to be!

Just-A-Nut was dropped by Headhardhat in a cache and is ready to be found! Let's just see how long it takes for some squirl to come and crack this nut!

Gunny's Electric Bug owened by Gunny's Cache hasn't even left the stables! C'mon Gunny! Seems you forgot to put the firing pin on that missel launcher!!

Is a Paid Account on Geocaching.com Worth It?

I pose this question to all my cacher friends out there because I've been a member on geocaching.com for well over a year now and I've just not seen the real need for a paid account. I know there are perks and I know what most of them are, but my real question is, how much do you use them?

Or should I pay just to support the cause?

Sure, it may need a hair cut, and may have spent a little extra time in protest to something totally necessary (or not), but like the Grateful Dead, it's on the move! And we all know how those Grateful Dead groupies were, they traveled for miles and miles and miles!

I talked earlier about the geo-challenge that was presented to me and how I just couldn’t turn it down. So, even though I was on vacation at the time, I managed (last minute, nonetheless) got my Peace Luv and Travel Bug out on the road. I really didn’t prepare well, as I was planning to take some time while at the beach to get the perfect cache to drop it in and to come up with some snarky, sassy theme for my bug and then talk mad trash about everyone else on their blogs after dropping it off!

Well, as you can tell by my bug and my lack of trash talking, that all of the above just didn’t happen.

Here is what did happen. I ended up running last minute to the store to find something (anything!) to attach to my bug, running crazy to find a non-micro cache to stash it in and then practically threatening murder to get some time to actually get to the cache!

So, my start hasn’t been all that great, but I’m sure this is a perfect beginning for my little hippie bug (as it’s been called by Hick@Heart) appropriately named Peace Luv and Travel Bugs! to pull in some serious mileage and kick all those other bugs out of the race!

And just FYI, like many hippies before, not only will this travel bug outlive most of the Nutty, Kooky, er I mean Cookie , Electro, Hick bugs but mine will have more fun doing it! So a big hippie HAH to you all!

By the way, where are the rest, wasn't there more than just 5 of us? Did some get skeered?

And for those not in the race, GO GET MY BUG! The best of luck to everyone because this is the kind of thing that makes caching so much fun!

Top Secret Geo-Mission

I am partaking in a top secret geo-mission that has recently become unclassified.

Yes, I'm talking about the lil'HooHaa Geo-challenge!

Basically, the gist of this, besides massive geo-trash talking (yes, I will add geo to the beginning of any word I so choose!), is to release a Travel Bug attached to something on a specified date. In one year's time, whose ever Travel Bug has the most miles wins!

Hmm.. what what do we win?

Who cares! I just want bragging rights that Kiss My Cache totally skunked out some other geo-geeks! (hehe *snort snort* hee)

Ok, the rules are in progress and the date hasn't been set, but I'm gearing up and have got some great ideas for what I'm attaching to the Travel Bug and where I'll release it.

C'mon boys! Let's play!

As my husband is out playing flag football and my son is sleeping soundly during his afternoon nap, I have put together my plan of attack. I'm choosing six caches in my local area to hit, ones on the main drag that I drive everyday. I know 2 of them are going to be needing extreme stealth, so that's going to be my major challenges.

I know for certain GC10AJJ is going to be tough. I already have a DNF logged for this one. Defeat is not an option, today. Be advised, an update will follow tonight with my results. Wish me luck and cache on!

Caching in the Park

What a great evening of geocaching with friends and family. We met our friends FB & Joy, who are expecting their own little bambino, at Century Park because they were interested in geocaching. We brought my son, so this was a perfect setting for him to run around and play with Daddy while I could do a little geocaching 101.

After about 10 minutes of me fiddling with our GPSr, we finally got to hit the trail. I can’t help that I don’t really mess with the eTrex all that much so I wasn’t really familiar with how to get the map to show the way I like it. After getting the cache loaded on the eTrex, I tried to explain what I could without getting too crazy in depth and taking the fun out of it all. I know I do this quite often and I purposely tried not to do it in this case because I think they really would like caching and I didn’t want to be the cause of scaring them off! All of the caches were located right in and around the park which was super convenient and a nice little walk in the park (literally).
First we hit GC1CF1K where my husband (thatscguy) dropped off his Jeep travel bug he had been holding on to. I think this was a great find for my friends, even though I actually found it first – which kind of took away from what I was hoping. I really couldn’t help myself, I just jumped down before I could think “hey let them look first!!”
Next was GC16209 which took a bit longer. Thank god FB is not vertically challenged like the rest of us, his height totally came in handy for this find and he was much braver than I would be to reach in to grab the cache.
GC1A2P5 was our last cache of the day. This one proved to be a great ending as it put us right back around to the side of the park where we parked the cars!

Nothing extremely exciting, but as always fun and challenging finds. I hope Joy and FB go with us again, it was fun to introduce someone to it all and to get a fresh perspective. I really think geocaching is so much more fun with a group rather than alone.

I have made plans at least 3 times in the last 2 weeks to go out and grab a few caches around town. I have yet to get there, let alone find a cache.

However, next week, all that will change. (As I cross my fingers just to make sure I didn't jynx myself)

A friend of mine has expressed interest in geocaching so my husband suggested one that he found in her part of town that he thought she and her husband would enjoy. I plan on looking up 2 more just to give them a few different ones to experience. I'm hoping at least one will be a multi-cache (my new favorites!). Caching really is a family/friend friendly hobby (or obsession in some people's case!) and I've always thought it would be great fun to have some friends to go out with, but it seems that since I've started caching, it's really only been my husband and my Dad who's taken it up.

I'm really excited that she's interested, this will be the first of any of my friends who remotely have shown any interest in caching and I really look forward to having a hobby that we can share.

More Sumter Caching

I’ll be heading back down to the Sumter, SC area this weekend to spend a little time with the parents and so that gives me another afternoon to hit up some geocaches. Also, my Dad needs a little motivation to get the Race To Myrtle Beach Travel Bug moving again, so maybe I can talk him into going with me or I’ll drop it off in a cache for him on Saturday.

I started looking through some in the area I want to try to do, but there are more on the way that I’d like to hit, especially GCMA0P since it’s on my way, but as I’ll be traveling alone with the kiddo, not sure if that’s going to work out. We will see. I love doing the “on the road” stuff, but without another person to help with the munch-kin, it can be more work than I’d like and considering this one is in a rather busy area, I’d rather not chance it.

So, we will see what I get and what I don’t get. I’ve learned from my last trip not to create such an expansive “wish list” as I usually can only get about 1-3 (depending on if they are multi or not) in within a morning’s time.

I've been sick all week and haven't been able to get off my couch, let alone go find any caches! I've got cache envy of all the others finds I've been getting notified of! But, I do have some time tomorrow, maybe I'll get a few finds in my purse tomorrow.

Sumter Finds!

I had quite a long list of caches I was looking to find this past weekend but, unfortunately, I didn't get to them all. However, on the flip side, I did experience one of the absolutely, most awesome cache ever. It will be the first on my SC Top 10 list!

So our first hunt was for GCKV07 and getting to the spot was pretty quick. In fact, this cache is a little special for me as it was hidden about 30 feet away from where my husband and I had once said we'd love to have our wedding ceremony. Instead, we opted for the Sumter Opera House, but it would have been a beautiful spot and has only gotten more and more beautiful as the years have passed. Finding the cache at the spot was more challenging that I thought it would be, but eventually after a 15 minute search or so, my husband landed the find! I grabbed the Just Foolin' Travel Bug to help on it's mission to reach London. I plan on hiding it in a cache here in the Upstate closer to the airport, maybe that will at least get it overseas. The hubby did a quick little trade of trinkets and we started on hunt #2!

The second hunt was for GC119GV, I was expecting to be fun as it was a multi-cache, but little did I know that it would quickly become my most favorite of all time caches! Upon reaching Stage 1, I knew this was going to be challenging yet fun. The clues were neither obvious (even for me who lived in the area previously) nor were they boring. Finding the next two stages proved to be interesting, especially trying to find the Stage 3 coordinates. I must admit that the Stage 3 hide was my favorite, it included a piece of my trade and was ingenious. The final cache was camouflaged seriously well. The are this was in and the tour it took you on is wonderful. It truly is one of those caches that would have been perfect with a packed lunch. To find the coords for each stage, I actually learned things about the area that I would have never taken the time to learn had I not done this and frankly, it's one of those things now, that I will really appreciate.

And.. that's it! We didn't get a chance to go hunting for anything else! It turns out that GCHEQF (the awesome island hide) was going to be an hour boat ride at minimum and it wasn't very feasible for us to do that this weekend. But, we've worked out how to get there faster and paddle our kayaks to the cache site. That is going to be a must find for me!

So, for now, I'll be hunting in the Upstate again for a while. However, in October, I'll be down in the Myrtle Beach area for a week and plan on spending quite a bit of time caching down there. Also, the hubby is going to New Orleans for a week right after that and plans on getting some LA finds under his belt. I won't go into how jealous I am that he gets to go since I've never been, however, all hope isn't lost that I will be joining him. We will see!

Sumter / Manning / Lake Marion Caches

We're heading down to my cousin's lake house at Lake Marion for the weekend, so I've printed out a "wish list" of caches to grab along the way down and while we are there. I'm a little disappointed that there aren't any closer to where my cousin's house is and frankly, if I knew I'd get down there more frequently I'd hide one. I may actually still do it and have my dad do maintenance. But anyway, here's a huge list of the ones I've looked at and may or may not hunt. The list is subject to change depending on my mood, the weather and how much I get into my Dean Koontz book. :)
