Even though I know all about how designer sunglasses are the only ones truly protecting our eyes, I never invested in a pair. I’m very good at taking care of precious items when they’re new, but as soon as the shine fades off, I become more and more careless. I’m talking about my bike, my phone, my laptop and even shoes or dresses. So when the opportunity arose to review these sunglasses, I decided I would be super careful handling them. Turns out, that’s quite easy: they came with a protective hard case and the best cleaning cloth I ever put my hands on. Of course, I was initially drawn to the vintage-inspired cat eye shape, but they actually feel really nice in your hand and on the face, too. Not to mention that I got them in no time – so you can count on that when you order from Sunglasses Shop. If you don’t know them yet, you won’t believe the range of sunglasses they have! I pretty much doubt there’s a designer you might want and not find on the site. Ralph sunglasses? Check. Ray Bans? Check. The Row, Oliver Peoples, Tom Ford, Miu Miu… all the cool stuff!

I’ve seen Claudie Pierlot pieces around the French blogosphere, and the brand stuck with me. Probably because it comes with such a wide range of clothes – from pretty peter pan collared dresses to cropped pants and basic sweatshirts. The colors in their printemps-été collection are nautical and, eventually, very Parisian – red, navy, black, white. Sure, you will also find trendy botanic prints and sequins, but it’s the preppy, timeless stuff that caught my eye. Always paired with black patent loafers and, ideally, with this transparent bag.

Watermelon is not yet in full season here – we’ve got a few weeks to go – and I’m obviously craving it. When I saw these cheap but cute canvas loafers in a local store, I knew what their new look was gonna be.

What you need:

• light colored shoes
• textile paint in red, green, black
• paintbrushes
• tape
• newspapers

First thing, fill the shoes with crinkled newspaper. This will keep the canvas straight (mine had an elastic, so this was a must). Then, mask the sole and the back of the shoe. Paint the red part of each one.

When the first color is dry, mask it and paint with your second color: green. When that it done, you can make the watermelon seeds with a thin paintbrush and black paint. Let them dry completely before removing the tape from the sole. If paint bled onto the sole, remove it carefully with an ear stick soaked in water. That’s it!

It’s so easy in summer: you just throw on a dress and a pair of sandals, and you have an outfit. I often find myself pitying men for not having the same opportunity as us, but then I remember they have plenty of perks of their own (uhm, peeing in public, ahem). So, with the ease that comes with summer, I put together this simple look. And then I wore the heck out of it, on one of the hottest days we’ve had in a while. And to compensate for the sandals being so comfortable, a dress strap kept falling off my shoulder, giving me something to do the entire time. Oh, well, you can’t have it all.

When I saw the cat embroidery below, I decided I want to live inside of it. I don’t think that’s crazy; I mean, it’s an anthropomorphic cat wearing a cat collar and holding a kitten. I’ve rarely seen anything more awesome. The rest of the shop doesn’t disappoint: Cat Rabbit is from Melbourne, and she works mostly with textiles. Her plushies seem to really have their own personality, but you might also like her scallop jewelry, prints or accessories.

I celebrated my 28th birthday over the weekend, and I like to say I’ve been pinning my whole life for this party. Since with age comes wisdom, I came to the conclusion that I love party food. Both the making and the eating. Everything is more fun to eat when it’s bite-sized and, yeah, it looks cute. I mean, look at those cucumber rolls! Before moving forward with some gorgeous summer party essentials I found here and there, I have to add that every one of you should attend at least one garden party/picnic this summer! This is a recurrent topic around my house: what will we consider typical of the 2010s in +20 years time? We noticed that there’s a huge tendency to not only idealize the past, but to try and recreate it as well. Take hits like Mad Men or The Great Gatsby, bands like Willy Moon or The Like, Smeg refrigerators and the trend of online apothecaries, or something even closer to the topic of this blog: fashion. So much of fashion these days is made to emulate the style of another decade, and I wonder if this will later on be confusing for other generations. Take this pretty dress for example: it comes with pleats, buttons and a very 60s print, yet it’s anything but vintage. What’s your take on this subject?

Lisa Wikander is the designer behind Mes Dames. She is Swedish, but she started the label in Paris, and the resulting cultural mix can be quoted as a source of inspiration. “Mes Dames” are all the interesting women around us, whether historical, fictional or contemporary. The clothes are feminine, elegant, and they attract with their simplicity rather than stealing your eye with artificial tricks. This lookbook was shot by Anna Malmberg, and it has an incredible beauty to it. Nothing that can be described in words.

I wanted to try sharpies on white ceramics for ages, but I never had the right tools at hand. During an unrelated shopping trip to the supermarket, I found both the proper bowl and the proper sharpies to work with. And is anything prettier than lace? We all know the answer to that.

What you need:

• light colored bowl
• sharpie
• scotch tape
• doily

It’s really easy: tape a doily to the bowl, and make sure it’s stable. This means that it doesn’t move while you sharpie your way all over it. I used a paper doily, but a plastic one would be even better to prevent the color from bleeding (like mine did). Once you’ve filled in all the cut outs with the marker, as well as the scallop edge, let dry and slowly remove the tape and doily. Place it somewhere else on the bowl if you want more lace. In this stage, the design already seemed permanent on the bowl, but I decided to play safe and bake it for 30 minutes in the oven. I’ve used and washed it since, and the color hasn’t faded or scratched. Good news, right?
