Feline Health Care Topics

Feline health care requires you to know your pet and find out when something is not right. Warning signs like appetite change, weight loss, and weakness can account for some severe cat health problems. So, aside from wondering why cats purr, you might want to think of a few more important issues that may come up.

Weight is an important aspect of cat health care. Proper weight is calculated according to the pet’s size and height. You can use a bathroom scale as a means of checking the pet’s weight by simply measuring yourself and then together with the cat. A sudden change in weight could indicate a type of illness. Your pet’s health care plan should include the weight check to ascertain that he or she is getting the right food amount to maintain a healthy weight.

Bacterial, fungal and viral infections usually need proper vet checkups. Other health care issues are metabolic diseases, parasites, and other congenital related abnormalities. All these issues account for some weight loss.

Your vet may prescribe some medications for your cat that are used to treat human ailments as well. Some of these meds consist of antibiotics like amoxicillin and cold medicines, phenobarbital, and Lasix. Even though the doses vary and the names are the same, never give the pet your medication. They need their own supply and different dosage.

Feline health care ideally involves keeping the pet groomed and feeding them food that helps in maintaining a healthy life. Proper vaccinations are also needed to protect your pet whether they go outside or not. Feline care ideally includes proper exercise which helps them maintain healthy muscles and prevent them from gaining excess weight. If you maintain a healthy environment and feed the pet nutritious food, they can live up to 15 years and even longer.

If your cat is experiencing health issues like ears and skin irritation, dental health problems, you may want to consult your vet as soon as possible. Some preventive measures also help maintain the cat teeth and prevent them from decaying or even breaking. Feline health care also means keeping the pet’s ears free of parasites and repelling ears mites. You also need to put measures to avoid flea infestation which might cause serious health issues. Skin irritation is usually due to skin allergies and scratching, which should be carefully monitored.

Cat health care does not call for a lot and does not consume much of your time. Just pay close attention to your pet’s habits and movements to see if there are any changes.

As mentioned earlier, knowing your pet is the first step of proper health care

Feline Behaviors- Stopping Bad Cat Behavior

If you own a cat that’s portraying some miserable behavior and want to stop it, you first need to understand the reasons why the pet is showing such behavior. In this post, we are going to look at the common cat behavior issues and how to put an end to them. Some of the feline behaviors are:

Aggressive behavior

Mot cat owners suffer a lot because of the aggressive behavior of these pets. The reason for this kind of behavior can be any of the following:

Pain- If your pet is experiencing any pain, it might portray aggressive behavior by scratching its belongings or even yelping. If you notice any of these reactions, you may want to take your cat to the Vet for a checkup.

Play and Bite- This is a common behavior with kitties, and it’s when your cat develops a habit of swooping on your feet. If your cat is showing this behavior, you can ignore it for some time until it gets off the aggressive mood. However, it’s also important to teach your pet to play with its toys to eradicate this behavior permanently.

Redirect Aggression- This is another type of aggressive behavior where the pet portrays aggression towards the source that disturbs it.

Avoiding The Litter Box

This is another common bad feline behavior that every cat owner has dealt with at some point. If you find that your pet is avoiding the litter box and you have to clean up the mess, you first need to know the reasons why the cat is avoiding the box. Some of the reasons for this are discussed below:

Dirty Litter Box

The lack of cleanliness is one common reason. Since these pets are used to cleaning themselves and staying tidy, they want the same for the litter box. As the owner, it’s your responsibility to clean the litter box after two to three days. Ensure you use soap, water, and ammonia to make the litter box appealing to the cat.

Noisy Location

Cats tend to be scared of noisy places so do not expect it to use the litter box if it is located in such a location. Instead, put it in a silent and quiet spot in your home.

Once your pet is used to a serene location and clean litter box, it won’t mess other regions in your home. As mentioned earlier, understanding the root of the problem is the first step to curing the bad cat behaviors.

Different Feline Dental Health Problems To Be Aware Of

Despite dental hygiene being highly important in pets, this is an issue that is often overlooked in cats. Due to the fact that cats clean themselves so regularly, pet owners do not expect the animal’s teeth to be dirty. This negligence is one of the reasons why feline dental health is one of the largest health problems cats’ face.

Warning: This video is a little gross …

To ensure your pet cat receives adequate dental care, it is recommended that you have knowledge of the different problems they may face. This article will provide information on the different feline dental issues you should be aware of.

1. Feline Periodontal Disease

Feline periodontal disease is a dental health problem that occurs when there is a build-up of plaque on the tooth. The plaque forms tarter and pushes food debris and bacteria underneath the cat’s gum line. If the teeth are not brushed regularly, the bacteria can cause an infection of the gum and bone structure.

Common symptoms of feline periodontal disease include inflammation of the gums, bleeding gums, and bad breath. Fortunately, this disease can be easily treated. Mild forms of feline periodontal disease can be treated using antibiotics and dental cleaning. However, if the case is severe, the cat will require tooth extraction.

2. Feline Odontoclastic Oral Resorptive Lesions

Cats suffering from feline odontoclastic oral resorptive lesions (FORL) will experience painful lesions in the tooth. The lesion will begin as a shallow pit developing in the enamel of the tooth, and it will grow to destroy the tooth entirely. The tissue surrounding the tooth becomes inflamed as the lesion grows and if not treated, the infected tooth will need to be extracted. Lesions are typically caused by plaque accumulation.

3. Feline Stomatitis

Feline stomatitis is considered an autoimmune disease where the animal’s body becomes allergic to the plaque around the teeth. A common symptom of this health problem is an inflammation of the mouth extending to the throat. The cat may appear to be in pain, and he or she will paw at the mouth or refuse to eat. Feline stomatitis is a serious condition and must be treated immediately to avoid causing additional health problems.

4. Malocclusion

Malocclusion is a dental health problem caused by abnormal tooth alignment. It can cause difficulty in eating; therefore, resulting in weight loss and other physical challenges for the cat. Malocclusion can be easily treated by veterinarians who specialize in feline dental health.

Final Words On The matter

Feline health is an important factor to consider when owning a cat. If your cat shows any of the above conditions, it is vital that you contact veterinarians to assist with the problem.

Feline Grooming Tips

Felines are good at keeping themselves tidy and clean, but there are times when they need some additional help. If you notice excess fur lying around the home, foul breath and feel sharp claws when playing with your cat, it might be the best time for a grooming session.

However, many people find feline grooming to be daunting since they always come out as the enemy. Here are some tips on grooming your cat without much resistance.

Keep the Grooming Sessions Short

Felines always seem to have better things to do than being occupied in a grooming session. So, try and keep the pampering sessions under 10 minutes. The quicker, the better.

Avoid The Bathtub

This one is a no brainier. Cats hate water, and the last thing they want to see is a tub full of water. Make the cleaning experience less scary for the cat by using pet bathing wipes. You will find special bathing wipes with cleansers that are safe to use on felines at pet stores. Simply use the cloth to clean the pet’s back, face as well as legs. It will get rid of the dirt, excess fur and dandruff flakes.

Brush The Cat’s Fur Once A Week

If you wish to reduce the amount of fur around the house, you may want to schedule a brushing session at least once a week. This not only acts as a bonding session with the pet but also keeps the cat’s fur in good condition. Find yourself a good grooming tool. The Equigroomer deshedding tool simulates a cats tongue and is a favorite among cat owners.

Offer Tasty Treats

Giving treats during the grooming session makes the cat happy. This, in turn, develops a positive relation between your cat and the grooming sessions.

Clip The Claws

For this activity, you may want to use pet claw clippers. Such clippers are ideal since they are easy to use and can safely clip your cat’s claws without having to worry about making them too short.

Use An Expert for Oral Care

If your pet is unwilling to let you groom them, you can use a professional. This is especially important if you are unable to brush the cat’s teeth. A lack of feline dental care can lead to tooth decay, cavities and other dental issues, which can threaten the well-being of your pet. So, in addition to an annual vet visit, you may want to schedule for dental grooming appointment as well. Using these tips for feline grooming will certainly help improve your pet’s health.

Tips For Taking Care Of Cats

Want to take care of your cat and make sure his/her needs are being met?

There are many cat owners who are not able to fulfill these requirements because they’re unaware and that’s unacceptable.

It is pertinent to recognize what these needs are and meet them before things get out of control or mistakes are made. Here are the key tips for cat owners who are looking to take care of their cat(s) and want to make sure things are done in a safe manner.

These tips will break things down and make it easier to progress.

1) Annual Check-Ups Matter

Are you getting annual check-ups scheduled and done? This is a good starting point for most cat owners.

You want to have a vet that is nearby who will be able to help with your cat and their need. This is how you will establish a good relationship with the vet while ensuring your cat is safe.

2) Preventative Care Is Important

Taking action and making sure the cat is being well taken care of is all about prevention. You want to ensure they are eating the right food, getting their medicine, and being groomed because this is preventative care that will help avoid long-term health issues.

3) Learn to Groom

The next tip is to groom because the cat will need to be taken care of in this regard.

Most will get an appointment with a professional grooming service in the region, and that is a lovely idea to consider. It will help progress with your cat’s health and keep things safe.

4) Professional Dental Work Helps

Now, this is one of those tips where cat owners do slack, and that is unfortunate. It can start to have an impact on the cat’s health in the long-term. It is vital to take a look at having his/her teeth look at on a regular basis in case things are not as healthy as they used to be.

A Closer Look At Types Of Aggression In Cats

What drives cats to be aggressive towards people and each other? Well, it’s imperative to evaluate the circumstances that lead to this behavior to be able to understand the triggers.

Never overlook a medical condition. Your pet may look normal but it might be suffering from a disease that causes aggressive behavior. Cats suffering from trauma, arthritis, abscess in mouth or tooth or any other health condition that causes pain are especially prone to aggression. It is crucial that you visit a vet if you notice this aggressive behavior.

Socialization is another factor. Cats that have been well socialized since the young age are usually comfortable when a new cat is brought to the household. Cats that haven’t been properly socialized lack the required skills of interacting with other felines. When confronted with a new situation like the introduction of another cat in the home, they become aggressive and very defensive. The best way to deal with such behavior is to leave the pet alone until it calms down. Keep the new pet in another room and conduct a gradual introduction.

Redirected aggression is another common type of aggressive behavior. This happens when there’s a sudden change of environment, or something disturbs the pet. For instance, if the cat is disturbed by a stranger or an animal he or she can’t get to, the pet will redirect its aggression to whoever is close. This form of aggression inhibits the bites, and so, it becomes quite dangerous. This type of aggressive behavior is spontaneous, and it’s an impulse that the pet can’t control.

Felines are also territorial. Each cat has its own space, and this is especially evident when you bring home a new pet. It is ideally visible when a housemate tries to take over the territory owned by the pet. To avoid confrontation, ensure that every cat has its own space, litter box, toys, etc.

Play aggression is another type of aggressive behavior common between kittens. Some cats never learned how to inhibit this rough play and might become excessively aggressive when playing with the owner. Some of the elements that promote this feline aggression are letting the cat play or attack your hands and feet and leaving it alone for a long time. It is imperative that you teach your pet to play with the toys and not your hands and feet. You can use compressed air to deter this form of rough play.

The Tabby Cat Guarding The Moscow Train Station

Cat lovers will understand how lovely cats’ furs and personalities are. The gracefulness in every step that felines have is incredible, and their cuddles are loved by a lot of people. Unlike dogs, these pets are calmer and just want to get cuddled while having their fur brushed all the time. The light nature that cats have often makes people think that they are just pets that should be kept inside the house. However, a tabby cat in Moscow just proved everyone wrong with what he did for the Moscow train station.

A lot of people think that “Tabby Cats” only pertain to alley cats that everyone can see anywhere. These cats are often taken for granted because they are very common. However, the word ”Tabby” is not a breed but the name of the patterns that appear in a cat’s fur. Alley cats are not the only ones that are endowed with this design; tigers and leopards also have this kind of pattern. Although many people don’t see anything special in Tabby cats, these felines are the most classic of all cat breeds. Tabby cats are also known for their ”M” mark on the forehead which is caused by the tabby pattern that they have.

While Tabby cats are not given much attention by people, a tabby cat in Moscow just proved to everyone that every cat is unique and greatness does not depend on their breed. This particular tabby cat was first spotted when it got onto the Moscow train station’s turnstile. People saw the cold weather outside and decided to let him enter the controller’s room. The kind employees of the train station fed the cat which made it want to stay even more.

The workers treat the cat as a new employee of the train station and even claims that more and more passengers are riding the train with tickets since it came to the train station. Because of the tabby cat’s excellent performance as the cat ‘guard’ of the station, he was hailed as the ”Employee of the Month”. And as a prize for the award that the cat received, it will be adopted by a co-worker into a new home that will perfectly take care of him.

Cats are extraordinary creatures that provide comfort to people. These pets are often a source of joy for people who love to have animal friends. Even though tabby cats are not seen as special by most people, the tabby cat guarding the Moscow train station is living proof that every cat is unique in their individual ways.

Your New Kitten Will Add Fun and Companionship to Your Life

There are few people in the world who do not enjoy a cute little kitten. They are not only a sweet little ball of fur, but are capable of entertaining their humans for hours with their antics. If someone has surprised you by giving you a kitten as a gift, you are in for lots of fun and a companion to brighten your days.

Since you will probably have your new pet in your life for many years, you will want to know the important details of caring for it properly. One of the first things you should do is find a veterinarian near your home that offers care for cats. Make an appointment to have your new kitty checked over and vaccinated with the appropriate immunizations. The vet can also provide you with information about the care and feeding of young kittens. This is important because young animals require proper nutrition in order to get a good start in life.

Although most cats enjoy a saucer of milk, kittens do not require milk once they have been weaned. Ask the veterinarian what type of food they recommend and whether you should offer free choice food throughout the day or if you should offer food at various intervals. As your kitten grows it will develop feeding patterns according to the schedule you set.

Cat owners usually prefer to have their pets spayed or neutered once they are old enough. The veterinarians usually recommend this minor surgery at about six months, but it is really your choice. Cats can become sexually mature well before their first birthday with females given to bouts of frequent meowing and males beginning to spray. Either of these behaviors are quite undesirable, so you will want to have your kitten “fixed” before that occurs.

Even after they are adults, most cats love to play. Activity is good for mature cats since it prevents them from becoming overweight and unhealthy. If your cat is your only pet, you should provide it with toys to inspire playful activity, and also take the time to play with it daily.

Annual vet visits and vaccinations are important to keep your new kitten healthy for many years. Most cats are social animals, but some tend to be more aloof. The more time you spend playing and cuddling with your kitten, the more it will enjoy and seek out your company.
