Builders Club Mother’s Day cards on sale now

Builders Club has created unique Mother’s Day cards, which are now available for sale at the Kiwanis family store. Put the fun in fundraising and raise money and awareness for The Eliminate Project!

The Mother's Day cards come in a package of 10 cards, 10 envelopes and an instruction card on how to submit your proceeds to The Eliminate Project. They can be purchased online at the Kiwanis family store for US $2.10 per set through April 17. Organize an event specifically for Mother’s Day to sell the cards and spread awareness (e.g., an auction, baby shower, bake sale, concession stand, cook-off, ice cream social, lemonade stand, pancake breakfast, race, raffle, etc.). Your ideas have no boundaries.

The new K-Kids video is available for viewing on the K-Kids YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/kiwaniskidstv. The title of the video is Kids Can Lead Too. One version of the video is for Kiwanis volunteers and the other is for school and community leaders.

Recycling library books in a creative way

Dr. Seuss's The Lorax Resources

March 19-23: National Youth Violence Prevention Week

This weeklong national education initiative involves activities that demonstrate the positive role young people can have in making their school and community safer. The campaign website,www.nyvpw.org, serves as the crossroads to the campaign and provides countless resources to prepare for the event, including the official campaign Action Kit that serves as a step-by-step planning guide, suggestions for how each sector of the community can support the campaign with links to over 40 national organizations sponsoring the event, articles and interviews on violence prevention, and much, much more! Disney Friends for Change Grants program

The Disney Friends for Change Grants program offers young persons the opportunity to receive a $1,000 grant make positive change in the world. Areas include protecting the planet, providing meals to those who need it or giving kids the resources they need to star in their own play, be an athlete or an artist. Youth ages 5-18 are eligible to apply for a $1,000 grant. Deadline for applications is February 29. Learn more.

Be part of the parade: Enter the shoebox float contest!

Here’s a fun idea for all your creative and inspired K-Kids: Create a shoebox float.

Decorated in themes associated with The Eliminate Project, these floats will be presented at the Kiwanis International Convention in New Orleans in June where they’ll compete for recognition as 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. But all entries will be winning efforts because working on these floats will help educate K-Kids and others about maternal and neonatal tetanus and our effort to eliminate it from the face of the Earth.

With the help of faculty and Kiwanis advisors, K-Kids can follow the contest rules and use theme ideas to design fabulous floats.

Encourage your clubs to participate, promoting The Eliminate Project message and maybe even winning a cash prize!

Everything’s coming up roses

If you join the 450 million viewers watching the Tournament of Roses Parade on January 2, keep your eyes open for some familiar faces. Kiwanis International President Alan Penn and his wife, Jeri, will be among the representatives riding the Winter Wonderland Kiwanis International float.

Not the spectator type? Get more involved: Sponsor the Kiwanis float or join the Rose Float Committee in the actual decorating. Besides working on our own Winter Wonderland-themed float, Kiwanis volunteers spend thousands of hours on other floats as well. Join in the fun and get the inside story on what goes into these gorgeous creations.

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF

For 61 years now, children in the United States have dressed in costume on Halloween night and gone door to door collecting coin donations for UNICEF. Since 1994, Key Club has joined in the fun Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF, a worldwide organization that, like Kiwanis, is dedicated to serving children’s needs. Over the years, Key Clubbers—with help from Builders Clubs and K-Kids clubs— have raised nearly $5 million for iodine deficiency programs worldwide, HIV and AIDS programs in Kenya and Swaziland and, most recently, Operation Uruguay: Protecting the rights of children.

Join Key Club, Builders Club and K-Kids in their effort to raise funds for The Kiwanis Eliminate Project by Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF this Halloween.

New Eliminate Project Resources to help spread the word

Maternal and neonatal tetanus affects many, many mothers and babies in the poorest countries of the world, and it’s going to take the help of many, many people to eliminate it from the world. To help you reach those many people, Kiwanis is constantly creating resources for your campaign, so keep visiting the Resources page of The Eliminate Project website to find out what’s new.

Here’s what’s new this month:

Turn a can into a coin collection container using the club coin can label. Print them off and start collecting. Every contribution counts!

Download The Eliminate Project logos in your preferred format: JPEG, GIF or EPS. Be sure to follow the logo guidelines when placing the logos in your promotional materials.

Look and sound professional as you educate groups about The Eliminate Project using presentation resources.

First-ever conference for Aktion Club

On September 9–11, Aktion Club members gathered at the Kiwanis International office for the inaugural Aktion Club Training and Leadership Conference. Members learned about service opportunities, attended leadership workshops and experienced the fellowship of meeting other Aktion Club members from around the country.
