The article, including its footnotes and publication details;

The original unpublished chart in a readable format; and

Any source that explicitly identifies the older Michal as Rabbi Shlomo’s son—ideally the exact title, edition and page, or a photograph of the relevant passage.

We have checked the genealogy footnote in the Budapest 1942 Ktav Sofer introduction. It describes an orphan Michel’s father as a son of the Taz without naming that father, so it does not by itself establish the specific Shlomo–Michal identification.

I’m seeking existing source material and references, not commissioning paid research. I am also writing separately to Mr. Tauber in case either of you still has the material. Thank you for any guidance.

New record to share, following the Reiter correction sent earlier this week.

The Munkacs Jewish marriage register 1886-1895 (State Archive of Zakarpattia, DAZkO Fond 1606, Opis 15, Sprava 35), record 30: on 14 September 1886, Rosner Salamon, 22, merchant, son of Rosner Berko and Weingarten Sorel, married Seidenfeld Chaje Bine, 20, born in Munkacs. The bride's parents are written letter-clear: "Seidenfeld Nathan" and "Ruchel Leie" of Munkacs - Naftule Seidenfeld and Rochel Leah (Reiter), alive and named in 1886. The officiant was Rabbi Salamon Spira, the Munkacser Rov.

Two things follow:

1. It confirms the family tradition that a daughter of Naftule married a Rosner - and it explains why Rosner Salamon, shoe merchant, reported Rochel Leah's death in 1906: he was her son-in-law.
2. It adds a daughter, Chaje Bine (born about 1866), absent from the published trees. Whether she is Shaindel (wife of Yechiel Michel Beinhorn) under a double name, or a separate sister, is open.

Attached: the updated report "Seidenfeld of Munkacs - What the Records Prove" and three crops from the register page (the bride's parents cell, the groom's parents, and the date and officiant columns). The full 1886-1895 marriage book is scanned free on Wikimedia Commons:

Rochel Leah's own Munkacs civil death record is now in hand: record 102, reported March 21, 1906 (State Archive of Zakarpattia, Fond 1606, Opis 15, Delo 113; the March entries are in delo 113 - delo 114 covers only September-December 1906).

It names her 'Reiter Rüchel Leie, Seidenfeld Naftalinné' - Rochel Leah Reiter, wife of Naftali Seidenfeld - and gives her parents as the late Jankel Lejner (Jacob Eliezer) Reiter of Munkacs and the late Chaje Bine Weisz, wife of Jankel Reiter. Good question! In fact, I have been asking this question for over 20 years now. I wish I had the answer. The only clue I have is a mesorah from the family that Devorah Eckstein was a descendant of the Noam Elimelech. I keep trying to find out more, but nobody knows. I do hope you can help figure this out. Let me know if I can help in any way.

I'm not familiar with "Rabbi Yaakov Klein from Brooklyn". Who is he? Looking at Geni.com all I see under Leah (Friedman) Klein is her son Berish Klein. IIRC, Berish Klein = Bernard Klein who was professor of history in Kingsborough College. Did Leah (Friedman) Klein have more children? Did Bernard Klein have children? I'm admittedly weak on this branch of the family, but were you in touch with David Friedman or Heshy Friedman? I'm CC'ing other members of the family, maybe somebody has more to say on this. Have you checked out my genealogy research archives here?

My grandfather was named Reuven Chaim (Rudolph/Randolph) Klein. He was from He was a grandson of the Shenos Chaim (his father was Mordechai Klein, whose father Binyamin Eliezer Klein, who was the oldest son of the Shenos Chaim). He grew up in Klyachanovo, near Munkatch and was oprhaned from both his parents and basically was raised by his mother's second husband Shlomo Mermelstein and Mermelstein's third wife. Then my grandfather came to USA before WWII and he served in the US Army. In the mid 1950s he visited Israel as a bachelor, and in late 1959 he got married. Not long after he had two sons, he died in 1968.

I could somewhat read Yiddish, but it's not one of my top languages. The best idea woud be to digitize the papers and put them online and we can use it for research and keep it for the future. That's what I plan to do with my grandfather's recently-dsicovered archives.

The screenshot wasn't so clear, but it seems the name of the book was איים בים. These Holocaust Memorboch don't have such a good reputation in terms of their accuracy, so it doesn't surprise much that they would make a mistake like this.

I was browsing through Geni.com on Chol HaMoed and came across a name Pnina Piri Klein nee Halperin that I had recognized from my grandfather RCK's letters.According to Geni she was married to RCK's second cousin, Shaya Klein. So I reached out to her daughter-in-law and sent her a copy of the correspondence. I also asked whether this Pnina Klein lady is still alive. But unfortunately, she had just been nifter the week before I emailed her.

Okay. I ask because Reb Ari Greenstein recently published a new edition of the Mateh Reuven with additional teshuvos, and in the introduction to this new edition, the editors discussed some of the recipients of the Mateh Reuven's letters and one of them was named Rav Aharon Tzvi Taub, and I was thinking that he was probably the same Rav Aharon Tzvi Taub that my grandfather corresponded with.

Some time ago I was told about a Zoom talk by Barbara Kaczvinszky - organized by the Budapest Great Synagogue.

She gave a fascinating and very informative talk about a family dynasty, going back many generations.

It was impressive to hear how much information she discovered: names and relationships of family members going back many generations, where they lived in Hungary especially those in Budapest, what they worked at and many other things.

About 2 years ago I asked if she could do research about my father's family, including my famous grandfather Rabbi Moshe Pfeffer, and my mother's family in Bonyhad. Father was born and lived in Budapest ...

I was quite impressed by all that she found out, even about a kayak or rowboat father had on the Danube In his youth with two close friends.

This is one of the parts of my family tree that I never really go to study much. They should have Sandor's death records or his burial location. He died after 1895, which is when Hungary started requiring parentage on the civil registration forms. His headstone may include his parentage as well, but nothing exists online from what I've seen.

I have found mention of male Kuttners in the new Leo branch. That opens the possibility of doing a Y-DNA test, which should prove the lineage. None of them seem to be on any heritage site, so that would require some awkward emails. My luck at convincing people to take a DNA test outside of my close cousin circle has been dismal.

IIRC, in one of my previous emails I wrote that finding out the genealogy of Miksa Kuttner of Tab who was my great-grandfather's first cousin might be a good way of testing your theory as to the parentage of Alexander (Sandor) Kuttner, as the two Miksa Kuttners are his grandsons. I wanted to see if anyone researching Miksa Kuttner of Tab had independently make a link between his grandfather and Simon (Shimon) Kuttner as you had suggested, but I don't see that here yet.
