Stock Picks: Small & Neglected Undervalued Companies

Warren Buffet yesterday invested $5-billion in Bank of America, sending the stock surging as much as 20%. This deal will net him a guaranteed dividend payout of about $300 million a year, whether the stock goes up or down. Buffet's latest investment move is similar to the $5-billion deal he reached with Goldman Sachs Group back during the financial crisis of 2008, after which the market recovered and rallied.

Like Buffet, many value investor bulls are awake and hunting for value.

Much research has been done on small companies "flying under the radar" of big investors or having little coverage from the sell-side. Research suggests that these companies might exhibit higher returns than the companies with high analysts coverage.

* TSH Resources 1H resutls beat forecast FY11 forecast raised by 7%. Maintain Buy, TP reduced to RM3.81 from RM3.84.
* UMW 1H net profit came in within ours but below consensus’ forecasts. O&G division returned to red. Maintain forecast, Hold call and TP of RM7.20. An interim single-tier DPS of 10 sen was declared.
* Alam Maritim returned to profitability in 2Q. Earnings forecast cut by 33% in FY11, TP lowered from RM1.10 to RM0.85. Maintain Hold.
* KNM’s 2Q results dissapointed. Cut earnings forecasts by 34-64% in 2011-13, TP cut from RM2.00 to RM1.19, downgrade call to Sell from Hold.
* QL Resources 1Q results came in below expectations. FY12-13 forecasts cut by 12%. TP lowered from RM3.75 to RM3.39. Buy call maintained.

Bird Nest Nitrite, is it safe?

On 15th August some province in China were repoted that edible bird nest contains high nitrite. Again, there are many rumors speculating regarding this matter and cause many traders, operators and even consumers confused and concerned.Then the question is, what is nitrite and is it harmful? how to avoid this substance if consumers concern about this substance and want to consume this delicacy food. Many informations actually descrbies what nitrite is. Here is just short summary of what nitrite is.

Nitrites are a normal part of human diet, found in most vegetables.[1][2][3] Spinach and lettuce can have as high as 2500 mg/Kg nitrate, curly kale (302.0 mg/kg) and green cauliflower (61.0 mg/kg), to a low of 13 mg/Kg for asparagus. Nitrite levels in 34 vegetable samples, including different varieties of cabbage, lettuce, spinach, parsley and turnips ranged between 1.1 and 57 mg/Kg, e.g. white cauliflower (3.49 mg/kg) and green cauliflower (1.47 mg/kg).[4][5] Boiling vegetables lowers nitrate but not nitrite.[5] Fresh meat contains 0.4-0.5 mg/Kg nitrite and 4–7 mg/Kg of nitrate (10–30 mg/Kg nitrate in cured meats).[3] The presence of nitrite in animal tissue is a consequence of metabolism of nitric oxide, an important neurotransmitter.[6] Nitric oxide can be created de novo fromnitric oxide synthase utilizing arginine or from ingested nitrate or nitrite.[7] Most all research on negative effects of Nitrites on humans predates discovery of nitric oxide's importance to human metabolism and human endogenous metabolism of nitrite.Recently, sodium nitrite has been found to be an effective means to increase blood flow by dilating blood vessels, acting as a vasodilator. Research is ongoing to investigate its applicability towards treatments for sickle cell anemia, cyanide poisoning, heart attacks,brain aneurysms, and pulmonary hypertension in infants.[9][10]An intravenous mixture including sodium nitrite solution has been used as an emergency treatment for cyanide poisoning (see Cyanide#Antidote).There are raised concern that sodium nitrite is the formation of carcinogenic nitrosamines if it is exposed under high temperature. But, two scientific reports from the National Academy of Sciences (issued in 1981 and 1982). The 1981 report stated that nitrite does not cause cancer, although some population studies have found an association between high exposure to nitrite levels and certain cancers. Also, nitrite does not act directly as a cancer-causing agent in animals. The NAS recommended that both these issues be researched further.

Based on facets presented, Nitrite can occur in our daily meals and it is not so harmful as long as it keeps it under certain amount. Although sometimes we can find even higher than the regulations standard in our normal meals such as lectuce. But these all can be avoided as long as our meals are well prepared. Nitrites are very soluable in water. People would normally wash their food before they cook as a result it keeps the nitrates down to consumable level nonetheless.

In recent issues, many consumers of bird nest concern this matter. Well, it is actually unnecessary. on 20th July 2011 One of stores in Hangzhou province in China has answered to that concern and has conducted a test by the Zhejiang Institute of science and technology. The report shows that the nitrate contents on BLOOD NEST only 2.5mg/kg and WHITE NEST 1.2mg/kg after being preparely served and stewed. (soak bird nest for 5-6 hours and change the water every hour). This report and the fact shows that there is significant reduce on nitrites level to a consumable level (max 30mg/kg WHO rules and regulations). This certainly will NOT bring harm.

Apart from negative impact on nitrites, consumers must not forget that there are many advantages and many substances in edible bird nest that improves human health. The glycoprotein in edible bird nest considerably to be very effective in boosting human immune. There are still some further study ongoing in bird nest related to its chemical compound and substance. Some study says they found an enzym that helps cell regeneration.

In conclusion, there are many substances in one food product. Good or bad depends on the perspective of the people. As long as it follows under a certain level according to the food rules and regulations. It can be consumable.

A KNOWLEDGE on how to prepare a meal is absolutely necessary in this matter. The stores also hold responsible to give their consumer information on how to prepare their products before being consumed. Regardless negative issues on edible bird nest there are many advantages that can be obtained by having this delicacy that have been in chinese people for hundred years.

The news come out which showing the company have a nett -0.7M for the month January to July. The company stated that they focus 100% on the RFID and they will ensure the project will success and get approval from kementerian. Is this a good news ?
Someone in the forum tell the public which the secretary of the Smartag said the project will OK and the next financial report will be OK too. Is't the real OK or just the rumors OK ? Let us see how.
BTW, i've use all my bullet to shoot on this stock. Let me see is this a good birthday present for me before October. =)

A company which have lot's assets and business in variety fields such as manufacturing, plantation, properties and banknote printing, the fundamental of the company is too good. Some source telling me, beside will annouce the financial report (which is positive), giving high dividend, they will also keep giving the investors a big surprise
What kind of surprise? I'm not really clear about because i'm not the share holder of the company.
A really good view about this company and hope it will show us some result. TP RM7.00

Tomorrow's market will still UP ?

This is a nonsense question which is no one can answer it.

Today, the KLCI is closed by + but the Asean and Asia market are closed low and - . This actually is not a good sign for tomorrow's KLCI indices. Furthermore, many of the investors are likely to be cautious on Thursday, Aug 18 following the weaker-than-expected second quarter economic data which showed GDP grew at a slower pace of 4%. Many investor will slow down the step and maybe stop to enter the market. Personally's views, KLCI will open low tomorrow and drop. Government or large shark will help the market ?

Stock to watch 18/08/2011 : Digista, Smartag, Affin and Century. Hoping these stock will perform well.

Bollinger band reading : correction range bound downside biased.
MACD Histrogram : recovering, seller reducing exposure.
Support : 1485, 1470, 1458, 1445 level.
Resistance : 1500, 1515, 1530, 1540 level.
Comment :
FKLI ended higher with quiet volume exchanged doing 4.5 points discount compare to cash market that also closed higher. Overnight U.S. market closed lower and Asia markets ended mixed while European markets currently trading mostly lower.
Mixed development over Asia and Europe region separately with Asia companies reported improved earnings, and a report showed Australian wages grew at a faster pace versus Europe German and French rejected an expansion of the region’s rescue fund and rebuffed calls for joint euro borrowing.
On the other hand, Bloomberg reported that Asia inflation risk may climb with Thailand first female Prime Minister Yingluck plan to boost Thai rice prices to lift rural incomes.
Daily chart formed a small up bar candle positioned in between lower and middle Bollinger band level after market opened higher, swing range bound upwards and closed near the high of the day.
Chart reading remained suggesting a correction range bound downside biased market development testing support and resistance level.
When to buy : buy at support or weakness with quick cut loss and profit target.
When to sell : sell at resistant or strength with quick cut loss and profit target.

MMC Corp Bhd and the other shareholders of the profitable Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd is undertaking a listing exercise which would involve an offer for sale of 26% of Gas Malaysia’s existing stake.
MMC-Shahpadu (Holdings) Sdn Bhd owns 55% or 353.108 million shares of Gas Malaysia, Tokyo Gas-Mitsui &Co (Holdings) Sdn Bhd 25% (160.503 million shares) and PETRONAS GAS BHD [] 20% (128.388 million shares).
Gas Malaysia posted net profit of RM298.27 million in the financial year ended Dec 31, 2010 compared with RM243.14 million in FY2009 and RM269.32 million in FY2008. Revenue was RM1.807 billion in FY2010, RM1.753 billion in FY2009 and RM1.879 billion in FY2008

KLSE Stock Watch for 17 Aug 2011

The KLCI market is increasing high in the morning session and going down in the evening session.

FKLI closed lower with better volume participation doing 11 points discount compare to cash market that closed marginally lower. Overnight U.S. market continue to closed firmer and Asia markets ended mostly lower while European markets currently trading recording loss.

Regional markets traded mostly in positive territory in the morning session after overnight U.S. market ended higher following some takeover corporate action followed by afternoon Germany and Spain lower that estimates GDP(nearly unchanged) figure announcement triggered regional market to sell down lower.

The only stock watch tomorrow for tomorrow is as below :

AmBank - Good start but management cautious of outlook ahead.

AMMB reported a strong set of 1QFY03/12 results, with net profit of RM441.5m. The results were helped by gains from the disposal of AFS securities and low loan impairment allowances, both of which more than offset the sharp NIM contraction, but should “normalise” ahead. Moving forward, AMMB will embark on a 3 years plan to improve return from FY12-FY14. Thinking the unthinkable: Sell U.S. Treasuries

The idea that Japan would ever dump the $900 billion it holds in U.S. Treasuries, the second-largest foreign ownership after China, has long been just that — an idea never seriously entertained.

The long-standing argument paints a horrific picture of the consequences: The dollar would crash, world markets would be sent into a tailspin and the postwar military and political alliance between the U.S. and Japan would be shaken.

But after Washington's credit rating was downgraded for the first time ever earlier this month — from AAA to AA+ by Standard & Poor's — some daring advocates are voicing that taboo idea: Why not sell Treasuries?

Those playing devil's advocate aren't Japan's mainstream policymakers by any means.

But they aren't totally fringe either.

"The holdings translate to ¥1 million per Japanese taking this risk in shouldering U.S. debt, all without their fully being aware of it," said Kenji Nakanishi, a lawmaker in Your Party, a new opposition party that made significant gains in the last election.

Nakanishi said that Japan shouldn't sell all its holdings at once, but should reduce them by about ¥10 trillion each year, and earmark some of that money for recovery spending in the Tohoku region, which was devastated by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

A simple explanation to Washington that the move won't change the U.S.-Japan political and defense alliance should be enough, according to Nakanishi.

It alarms him that the government is trying to raise taxes to fix its deficit and finance the earthquake recovery, a move he fears would further squeeze the economy.

Views like Nakanishi's may be winning some acceptance. No one expects them to be acted upon immediately.

The government and ruling party officials have repeatedly said Japan won't sell U.S. bonds, and instead will keep buying them.

The common wisdom is that a weak dollar would prove devastating to the Japanese economy by making it more difficult for Toyota Motor Corp., Sony Corp. and other pillars of corporate Japan to sell their goods overseas.

Peter Schiff, chief executive of Euro Pacific Capital, a New York-based investment company, said the current accumulation of debt by the U.S. government is unsustainable.

"The more money the world lends to America today, the more money they're going to have to lend tomorrow," he said in a telephone interview.

"It's a giant Ponzi scheme. Nobody is ever going to get their money back."

Japan would be venturing into untested territory if it decided to reduce Treasury holdings.

In 1997, mere musing by then Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto about selling Treasuries set off a Wall Street plunge until Japanese officials quickly jumped in for damage control and promised Tokyo had no such plans.

But Naoto Amaki, a writer and former government bureaucrat, thinks the time is ripe to start thinking the unthinkable.

Amaki has long advocated reducing Treasury holdings, but is only recently growing optimistic that others may finally see how his view may be good for Japan.

Japan, with its towering public debt, is in no position to help finance America's deficit, especially after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, he said in a recent blog.

"Japan's finances were already in serious trouble. Now, we are literally being backed into a crisis of no return," Amaki said.

From the affect from US DOW JONES, KLSE investor just like "playing" a roller coaster last week. Those who worry and scare sold out all the stock on hand even lose alot, those steady and brilliant wait and buy in more and more. =)

Smartag 0619 : I personally feel very strongly about this stock because of the fundamental of this stock before it listed in bursa Malaysia. The RFID project which assigned by our PM will be confirm within this month and my strong feeling towards this big project is "SUCCESS". TP 0.50 (End of Aug)
