Grief is an unspoken but natural part of change

There's lots of talk online about change, transformation and leveling up...

But a part of change and transformation that people rarely talk about is the feeling of grief that is associated with personal change. Even more rare, is discussion about how to comfort yourself through the feeling of loss that personal change may bring.

Acknowledging this sometimes subtle, but present feeling of loss, is important because without doing so, you'll likely slip back into old familiar patterns of behavior and thought, because pushing through the discomfort of change is too much to bear without coping tools and the awareness of what's going.

The grief we're speaking of here is natural during change, as you are leaving one state of being and entering the next. It’s the letting go of the old that induces this feeling of grief and loss.

You may not even recognize it as grief at first. It may just feel like a very somber and moody feeling. Upon further introspection, it seems to be on a frequency similar to that of loss and letting go.

It’s letting go of the old familiar knowing of what to do, when to do it, how to do it— the mindless programming of a routine.

With a transformation into a new lifestyle, career, city, body, relationship, mindset or even a new haircut... you have to establish new routines, new habits— a whole new way of being.

There’s effort involved now. A presence that is newly awakened and takes more energy, trial-and-error and puts you in a more vulnerable state.

That vulnerability can induce a sense of longing for the old familiar— no matter how much the "old familiar" no longer serves you.

✨Simply being aware of the somber emotions that naturally come up when moving through change helps to sooth you through it. Resting more helps as well. Being more in "hermit mode," affording yourself the luxury of some solitude, peace and quiet time for integration of the change.✨

I find that simply acknowledging the emotion gives me the opportunity to respond from a place of awareness as opposed to react from a place of impulse.

I affirm: I give myself the opportunity to feel all my feelings. It is OK to take time to process my feelings. It is right to nurture and comfort myself, as I would a young child just learning to process their emotions on this earthly plane— allowing them to express and assuring them, by holding safe space, as they feel and work through their experience.

I afford myself the same grace.

Finally time to share. Dubai—One year later.

There was something deeply intimate about my trip to Dubai.

Something about it felt vulnerable, to be held private from the world until it had fully registered with me, for me—first and foremost.

In January of 2019, the government shut down the entire month, leaving me pretty isolated working from home everyday. And personally, February is always the hardest month of the year. So by March, a nice reprieve on the anniversary of my spring equinox escape from the womb—a solo pilgrimage, this time to Dubai.

After the trip I had little inspiration to share all that I had experienced, and I wondered why. Looking back at it now, I see the trip as passage into a personal period of incubation. A fragile time of transformation that was to be quietly experienced in solitude. I see the trip as a time of preparation for a new segment of life. The first necessary step to prepare the vibrational atmosphere with which I'd walk into my new segment.

Why share now?

It is important and timely now to release my Dubai story because similarly we are in a period of incubation, collectively waiting to emerge, battered—but victorious.

We are moving forward and deciding what lifestyles, what systems, what mindsets we are bringing into the future with us. Whether you realize it now or not, everything old and ill-equipped is being stripped away and life-anew awaits.

For me the work is to identify, to decide, what things authentically serve me and what I'm willing to do to carry them into the future with me.

For me a lifestyle that includes travel and ultimately an exploration of self and the world is a nonnegotiable—it must come with me. So I share this Dubai footage with you as inspiration to the personal awakening travel has inspired within me—through what I call Travel Alchemy.

May it inspire the same within you as we embark upon this new post-pandemic frontier.

I only ask that you allow the space and vision for life anew to be different and better than we could have ever imagined, and for our new world to unfold in a way that serves the greatest good in the best possible way... created in love and light.

A Case for Feminine Charm at Work | It’s Kells 🚀

In this video I share how I came to see the importance and value of feminine charm at work. Typically, I find that success at work is shrouded in overt masculinity. If unchecked, workplace success is dictated by how cunningly you display qualities traditionally associated with cutthroat corporate men, especially passive aggressiveness, controlling behavior, power games, and hyper competitiveness.

While traveling and living abroad, I witnessed firsthand how encouraging an energetic balance of healthy masculine (assertiveness, risk taking, decisive action) and healthy feminine (intuitiveness, collaboration, creativity, emotional intelligence) in both women and men in the office enriched my experience at work and made the team more cohesive.

To be clear, I am speaking of energy here, not stereotypical gender roles.

In the ideal, we each aspire to a healthy balance of feminine and masculine energy to be the best version of ourselves. At the end of the day, it's all about yin (feminine) and yang (masculine) and acknowledging the value of both for a harmonious experience at work and in life.

The correct balance of masculine and feminine energy is of huge importance not only at work, but also in our personal relationships. As more women climb the corporate ladder and are expected to rely heavily on their masculine energy, many times the "off button" isn’t being switched when acting in more personal relationships.

Working women often have a hard time switching back into the most powerful energy designed specifically for them, the one thing that woman have a predominance of, and men desire the most: femininity. In this live video, I bring your attention to the energy and mood you carry in and out of the office and how you might have the courage to rebalance it for the benefit of your career and personal life.

What is the Travel Alchemist Collective?

Travel Alchemist Collective is a community created for passionate women who have a deep desire to travel and explore the world. She sees herself as, or aspires to be, an intuitive, adventurous, feminine, achiever, but is encountering a few personal barriers keeping her from seeing more of the world.

Her personal barriers may be: fear of solo travel, fear of the unknown, overthinking, fear of spending money, or fear of being judged.

She's tried a few things in the past, but now she is ready to do whatever it takes to cross the travel threshold.

Based on our ethos: the transformative power of travel, she is confident that working with Kells and joining the Collective will help her to make travel-transformation happen this year.

What can I expect from the Travel Alchemist Collective?

Throughout March 2019 Kells will be guiding a hand selected group of women through live group sessions (online) and individual coaching and feedback sessions (online, phone or in-person).

These sessions will be held twice per week for approximately 4 weeks. The sessions will be tailored to the specific needs of the women in the cohort and will focus on guiding each to achieve her personal travel goals.

Kells, the group leader, will help her to identify her personal barriers and begin to breakthrough, create a Travel Transformation Plan (TTP), get in the right headspace to book her perfect trip, make the most of time abroad, and ultimately help her to transform herself, her love life, and her career.

Travel Alchemist Collective is about one-on-one coaching and personalized feedback to help you achieve your travel goals.

For members of the Travel Alchemist Collective the expectation is that travel will have a transformative effect on her life: her career, love life, vision of self, and outlook on life.

The expectation is that each woman will have a unique set of challenges, but a deep willingness to overcome and take tangible steps to make travel a priority and a reality in her life.

There is a particular personality that is best suited for the Collective. Those interested in joining should know that there will we an intuitively guided selection process before she is welcomed to join the group.

Travel Alchemist Collective is a paid membership group.

My biggest fear was being seen as unfit for the team I had been drafted for. Unfit for the opportunities I spent my entire college career cultivating.

But deep down I knew, undeniably, I was different.

It seemed that everyone was quite content graduating from college, signing on the dotted line and joining the workforce for 40+ years.

Adulting—or so they call it.

I, on the other hand, panicked at the thought of such a massive commitment.

Now don’t get me wrong, I have no aversion to hard work, or inspired action, as I like to call it… but as you’d have it… inspiration can be tricky to pin down.

After university, travel was the one thing that consistently called to me. The element of adventure, the tug of curiosity, the slight hint of impracticality.

In the quiet moments when I would sit and ask myself, “What do you really want to do?” Travel was the response.

There’s a freedom that comes with travel. You are free to be curious and have a child-like naïveté about the world again.

Wonder and exploration are somehow restored.

People forgive you for the mistakes that you make when you’re a traveler. You don’t have to take yourself too seriously.

For me the best part about traveling is being liberated from the expectations imposed when at home. A temporary relief from the heaviness of adulting.

As it relates to career, being a traveler sets you apart in a few ways. The right team will see you as:

Adaptable, open to new people, places and opportunities, able to shift your lens and see things in different ways
