Gale Banks Engineering and its four divisions (Banks Power,Banks Technology, Banks Marine, and Banks Racing), are companies created by Southern California hot rodder and automobile engineer, Gale Banks. These companies design, engineer and build high performance parts for the automobile and marine aftermarket and military customers. Located in Azusa, CA, the company develops technology and components for both gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, but is best known for advancing development of the [turbocharger] and ultra high performance diesel engines for racing and street purposes.
Banks-powered race vehicles have won numerous marine racing events and championships, and have set many speed records. These include “World’s Fastest Passenger Car” and “World’s Fastest Diesel Truck.” The Banks Sidewinder S-10, built from the ground up at Gale Banks Engineering, produces 1250 horsepower and is the “world’s fastest and quickest diesel drag truck” with a 7.72 second elapsed time and 179+ mph top speed in the quarter mile. These records have been certified by official motor racing sanctioning organizations, including the FIA and NHRA, and are detailed in the History below.
Banks Power products include ECM-tuning devices, and intake and exhaust airflow systems for diesel-powered pickup trucks and recreational vehicles. ‘’Diesel Performance’’, ‘’Trailer Life’’ and other magazines have reported that these Banks Power products deliver significantly improved horsepower and torque measurements while yielding an up to 10% improvement in fuel mileage.

History

1958: Gale Banks begins his career as a hot rodder by modifying the engine in his mother’s car. He founds “C.P’s Auto & Marine Racing Engines” as a way to fund his college expenses at Cal Poly, Pomona.
1966: Banks modifies a 1953 Studebaker and drives it to class records at El Mirage Dry Lake and the Bonneville Salt Flats with a top speed of 184.52 mph, as certified by the Southern California Timing Association.
1970: First Banks-branded turbo marine racing engine is built. Gale Banks Engineering and Banks Power engines win the American Power Boat Association (APBA) & NJBA (National Jet Boat Association) Jet Class national championship.
1974: The Banks/Brunette tunnel boat powered by a 398 cubic inch engine developed by Gale Banks Engineering and Banks Power wins the first of five consecutive APBA Endurance Tunnel Hull national championships.
1976: The “Crucifier,” a race boat powered by a Banks fuel-injected nitro HEMI wins every event it enters, including the NDBA (National Drag Boat Association) and APBA nationals.
1978: Gale Banks Engineering is contracted by N.I.S.T.A. in the Department of Transportation to develop the power train for its Large Research Safety Vehicle (L.S.R.V.) program. When finished, it met proposed 1985 fuel and emission standards. This year also saw Banks develop the world’s first electronically injected oxygen-sensing turbocharged engine for Volvo.
1980: The U.S. Navy Seals contract Banks to develop an experimental twin-turbo marine engine that produces 535-hp and runs on 84-octane “Battle Gas.”
1981: Banks creates the high performance diesel aftermarket with his first turbocharger system developed for the 6.2 litre GM diesel. Also that year, a Banks-powered 450-hp twin-turbo Buick V-6 becomes the prototype for the Buick Grand National production car.
1982: The “Sundowner” Corvette, powered by a Banks twin-turbo big block, becomes the “World’s Fastest Passenger Car” at 240 mph, taking the record away from the “Hanky Panky” Studebaker, which also used a Banks-developed twin-turbo power plant. This year also saw the Banks twin-turbo powered S-1 Express take an APBA world championship.
1984: A street-legal Pontiac Trans Am with 700-hp and a Banks turbo breaks the 200 mph barrier and becomes a cover story for Car & Driver magazine.
1987: A Banks Power twin-turbo, 1800-hp Pontiac GTA sets a new “World’s Fastest Passenger Car” speed record at Bonneville Salt Flats at 277 mph as certified by the Southern California Timing Association. This record stood for the next ten years.
1988: Banks turbocharger systems become a GM dealer-specified option,
1992: A Banks Power-developed twin air intake and intercooler system results in a claimed 80-hp improvement on the factory-turbocharged Dodge Cummins engine.
1993: The Banks “Sidewinder” aftermarket turbocharger is introduced. Tests show that turbo-lag times decrease and throttle response improves when compared with factory turbochargers.
1994: Banks begins offering intercoolers to improve the performance of the Ford Power Stroke diesel. At this time, the Ford factory was not using intercoolers on their diesel-powered pickup trucks.
2002: A street-legal Dodge Dakota pick up truck built in the Banks Power shop with a 735-hp, 1300 lb-ft, 5.9 litre Cummins hauls its own trailer to Bonneville and sets the FIA record for “World’s Fastest Pickup Truck” with a two-way average of 217 mph and one-way top speed of 222 mph.
2007: The Wes Anderson-driven Banks “Sidewinder” S-10 with a 1250-hp, 6.6 litre Banks Power/Duramax engine becomes the “World’s Quickest and Fastest Diesel Drag Truck” with a 7.72 second elapsed time and a top speed of 179+ mph in the quarter-mile, as recorded by the National Hot Rod Diesel Association.[1].
2009: Gale Banks receives a Distinguished Service Citation from the Automotive Hall of Fame
2010: On March 6, 2010 the Banks crew tested out the Top Diesel Dragster’s new “Stroker” 427 cu. in., twin-turbo 7.0L Duramax engine at the NHRDA Nationals in Wittmann, Arizona. The Banks Sidewinder S-10 runs at NHRDA in Topeka, Kansas winning top diesel class with 7.77et @ 178 mph.
2011: Gale Banks builds world’s first supercharged Top Diesel Dragster. Gale Banks teams up with Paul Dallenbach to race the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
2012: Banks and Dallenbach race at Pikes Peak.
2013: Banks and racer/stunt driver Mike Ryan team up to race at Pikes Peak in a Freightliner Cascadia.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do, much more positive shifts. I did not see any difference in gas mileage however I did not use the cruise control on my last trip. Installation was straight forward and fairly simple. Excellent value for the $$.

Perfect fit direct bolt in.

Installed this High Ram Intake during replacement of the fuel pressure regulator. Direct bolt in and fit perfectly. Due to using a K&N air filter assembly I didn't need to use the spacer and didn't need to drill the Battery box bracket.

2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ

I had a shop install it. It is possible to do with normal garage tools, because it is a bolt on kit... no welding. I had a shop do it because I didn't know if I could get the old one off. It does have an exhaust tip, but it is not the current model exhaust tip. It sounds MUCH better than factory. It has a little rumble to it.

Great exhaust kit! Well worth the price!

Easy to install and sounds/performs well. My jeep is lifted, so I did take it to a muffler shop and have a couple bends made to clear the trackbar and skids bit only due to the lift.

Great sounding exhaust

Exhaust sounds amazing just a little quieter than I expected. It does get a little louder as time goes on though. Basically a couple volume notches above stock but the tone is much nicer. Has a very satisfying rumble. Everything fit well (except the tip) but the supplied clamps were not of great quality. Replaced them with stronger ones. The supplied tail pipe tip did not fit because of my factory trailer hitch so if you have a hitch you may want to look into other tip options as leaving it off will melt the hitch wiring if it's routed like mine was. Didn't really notice any improvement in mpg but did notice a little more power in 5th gear at highway speeds. All in all a great product. Looks and sounds superb. Would certainly recommend it.

Installation is some what difficult, and saving the plastic fender liner clips is hard to achieve, and replacements need to be purchased. This product is used with the ram air intake system, to date the increase in peerformance is not worth the price and the decrease in gas mileage make it a real loser.

The System is Complete!

1st of all, I believe Gale Banks' theory that all of his upgrades work together to make power and that you may not have the same effect when using a mish-mash of after-market parts. Besides, he's been in the business since the early '60's with diesels being his specialty. With that said, I installed his Ram Air Intake system and then his 4" monster exhaust on my 2003 Duramax. There were noticeable differences in breathing, performance and sound. But it took me about 2-months and about 200 miles before I installed the Banks Super Scoop, and let me tell ya, the scoop just finished the system off! Yes, I did have better breathing & performance without the scoop installed, but the scoop put the "RAM" in the Ram Air Intake System because cool, fresh air is now being rammed directly into the intake! There is an absolute difference in performance due the to the RAM AIR effect and now throttle response is more crisp and instantaneous. My 6000# Silverado just "lives" in the 70 to 80 mph range on the freeway. It truly feels like the faster you go, the better the system performs...talk about a purring, happy diesel....incredible! I also believe I gained about 2 more miles-per-gallon? Unlike the last reviewer, I don't have wheel clearence problems because I'm pretty much stock. However, if you plan to lift your truck and put on bigger wheels, you may want to see if the scoop would get in the way. All-in-all, I give the Banks Super Scoop 5-stars because it truly gave my truck that "RAM AIR" as advertised performance (coupled with the the Banks, 4" SS Monster Single Exhaust system). The next upgrades on my list are the Banks Techno Intercooler and the 6-Gun w/ IQ! Gale Banks, YOU ROCK!!

It looks like a great idea but it gets in the way when steering to the left if your tires aren't any thing but stock plus not sure there is any gain at all

Quality Product

The kit was sent out promptly and was everything I expected, and more. The instructions were spot on and simple, the cooler is a bit heavy compared to the OEM, but that is a sign of the quality and I am very glad I selected this kit from Banks. My original cooler blew out the seal/clamp between the aluminum and the plastic while pulling a 15,000 lb. 5th wheel over a mountain pass, this will NOT happen with the Banks cooler. My boost is now higher than before and I know I can get after it when hauling up steep mountain passes and not worry about my cooler blowing out. Everyone should replace their OEM with this Banks kit.

Technicooler review

I own a 2006 Superduty F-350 with the 6.0 diesel. I have added a programmer, intake, straight pipe 4 inch exhaust, 8inch lift, gears to match the 38inch tires, etc. my point in mentioning this is that the motor makes more boost than it did originally from the factory. The stock inter-cooler had plastic tanks on each side and aluminum fins in the middle. The plastic cracked and a chunk of plastic blew out the side of one of the side tanks, which left the truck with no boost(naturally this occured while pulling my toyhauler to go on vacation, ending the vacation before it started). The Banks techni-cooler has aluminum side tanks and a solid welded construction that will not break like the cheap factory parts did. The techni-cooler is also larger and flows a lot more air, and cools the air more as well. My egt's decreased across the entire rpm range, proving that it cools the incoming air charge much more than the factory cooler did.
This is a great product that will improve your trucks performance(more air moved with less restrictions at the elbow and tubing), and durability and longevity(by decreasing egts and not failing on the road). This is a fairly tight fit, but if you take your time and reroute a few lines carefully it all fits well. I would definitly recommend this product to my friends.

not banks parts

When I first looked at the shipped box it was full of grease and it also had some oil stains. I then opened the package and found a hole bunch of used original Powerstroke 6.0 parts. Someone even took the time to paint the original intake elbow to red to try to imitate the Banks high flow intake (What a joke). I lifted the protective cardboard off the intercooler and found a used Powerstroke 6.0 intercooler, Someone totally ripped off all the Banks parts. I contacted Amazon that same day and they immediately took care of the problem.. They shipped a new order and had the faulty kit picked up.. Totally happy with their customer service. I received the new order and found all the items as specified per Banks.. Installed everything in the kit and I totally love.. Thanks Amazon and I hopefully you guys find that Magician..

I got this for my 2002 4x4 Silverado 2500HD Duramax. The instructions are really easy to follow, the menus are simple, and the tuner does the rest. I got it primarily for fuel economy, but a little extra power never hurts either. It showed up a day earlier than expected, and I've already set up my first trial tune. I will be recommending these to friends. If you want black smoke and lots of noise, this is not for you. If you want a little more umpf on your work truck or daily driver, you can't go wrong with a banks.

Good gas mileage feels stron in Econo tune. NEEDS tech help

Easy to use with clear directions. I gained about 2 MPG on 2006 Chevy Duramax on economy tune. I'm not able to access options for reset of tire size, speed limiter, rev. limiter etc. after install. I will try to return to stock tune, tyr to adjust for tire size then see if I can retune. If that does not work I will need to call tech support

Great hand held vehicle programmer

The Banks "AutoMind" hand-held programmer is designed to allow modifications to your vehicles Electronic Control Unit (ECU). However, this unit does not perform as advertised for a 2008 Chev Silverado HD. The product is advertised as having the ability to modify "tire size" and other options in your ECU. Apparently Chevy either moved these options to the EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module, or Banks has opted not to provide access to them - either way the Banks AutoMind unit would not allow me to modify my "tire" size. I spoke with the Service Advisor at my local Chevy dealer - and for $150 Chevy can update (change) my tire size. I attempted to return this unit - based on "not operating as described", but all Amazon would offer is the "Standard Return" - read the return-policies before ordering. I decided to keep the unit as opposed to loosing 20%. Banks can provide an update file that will restore the unit to "store-front" condition (free) so I can sell the unit myself. By the way, I did really like the way Banks provides safety features on this unit. For example, before you can install a new (pre-defined) ECU setting, they back up the original (Factory) setting to the hand-held so you can always restore the factory-setting. Some programmers / businesses require you to send in your ECU in order to be restored to factory.
