The Knights in Plano – Summer 2014

It is the combined goal of the Knights organization to set the pace for club volleyball programs in Texas by representing an important turning point in the growth and development of young athletes in the sport of volleyball.  The Knights organization has continued to grow substantially each season due to this unified goal and we are once again set on a path of change for the betterment of our program.

As of July 16^th Knights Volleyball Academy will call the Nortex Volleyball Complex in Plano its official home for the 2014-15 season.  For 3 amazing years we resided in Carrollton while our club was able to plant a firm foundation in the North Texas Region including: 3 consecutive Nationals bids and a Runner-Up Open National Title in 2013.   We know that although we are moving just a short distance east, this change will open the opportunity for players, from all over the DFW area, to have access to training at Knights.

The Nortex Volleyball Complex is accessibly located off the George Bush Turnpike and Jupiter Road. Head North on Jupiter, turn right on Summit and then turn left on Matrix and you will see our new home on the left.

We hope to see everyone out at our Back to School Clinics and Camps in July & August and of course our September & October Tryout events for ages 10U-17U. Check online for clinics, open gyms, invitation events, lessons and of course tryouts this Fall.   The Knights are back where it all began just 5 short years ago and we are excited about what the future holds for our KVA family in Plano.

We are proud to be partnering with Excel, Summit and Premier for the Summer Session I Unity League.  It will be a competitive league that is more cost effective for our KVA families and any other players/families interested in training with the Knights this Summer for indoor leagues.

UNITY LEAGUE Roster – Rosters are due my May 25th.  Teams will not be solidified until payment is submitted.  Payment is made through our Mindbody registration site under Indoor Leagues.  Be sure you let us know whether your team is OPEN (looking for more players) or CLOSED ( full team roster not looking for singles)  We have attached the singles list to this post for any team looking for players.   If you know of any players looking for a team please send them to Shellie Ouldhouse at shellie@knightsva.com and we will add them to the singles list.

After three shorts year the 15 National Royal team at KVA defied all the odds and attended their very first OPEN National Championship.  This mighty team of 11 and their outstanding leadership, drive, teamwork, and most of all HEART have shown what it is to be a Knight.  

The Knights had 3 players make the ALL-TOURNAMENT team:  Setter #12 Whitney Scroggins, Middle #9 Victoria Dureny-Reyer, and Middle #10 Francesca Goncalves.

Knights Take K-nation by Storm:

2nd in 15 Open Division at GJNC 2013

Knights 15 National Royal fall one match win short of a National title at this years 15 Open GJNC at the Dallas Convention Center.   What a ride!  I remember back at team camp, prior to season start, and the team was making their season “vision” board.  I walked over to see what goals they set for themselves and read the following:  1. 1st in the Nation 2. 1st in the Region….I took a deep breath and said alright let’s do this.  I promised to love them, push them, and never let them give up on the goals they set together as a new team of 11.

It was not an easy path as the team adjusted to the maturity of 15 Open and the tough tournament schedule we set before them.  I knew it may be a struggle at times due to the level of competition they see from day one but over the years I have learned that the schedule we set depicts their growth and their success amongst the best.  We do not give them an easy schedule so they can get as many tournament plaques as possible each year.  I don’t care about rankings in our region or 1st place medals per season.    We set the toughest, most competitive schedule to help prepare them for what they will see as they enter into qualifiers and hopefully Nationals each season.  A recipe that has worked for 3 years and continues to get better and better as we perfect it each season.

Knights 15 National Royal road a ride that very few get to experience in their volleyball careers, myself included.  My first Open National Championship was July 4th 2013 with my girls.  They have awed the nation with their strength and perseverance, shown Texas what it means to be a Knight, touched their families & friends with their unwavering love, teamwork, and heart for the game, but most of all they have made me a better person, coach, director and leader.  I never knew that 11 young women could teach me so much in such a short time.  How to be COURAGEOUS when things get tough, to always fight with HONOR even with the odds are stacked against you, to uphold my INTEGRITY when others try to tear you down, that LOYALTY is one of the strongest virtues to obtain and so easily forgotten when times get tough, and finally that LEADERSHIP & LOVE  above all is what our families/players need from their coach, director, and friend.  Lessons that will not be forgotten and I look forward to more in the coming years as Knights continues to provide a healthy, loving environment for volleyball players of all ages to learn and grow.  The heart of a Knight is unique….

In closing I wanted to say THANK YOU to our “Knights K-Nation” your support was overwhelming and the heartbeat of our team over 4 days.  Current players/families of all ages and ex-players/families came out to see this amazing ride and fueled the team when exhaustion set in, pushing them to continue climbing to the finals.  The KVA family was 100% behind this team, cheering them on even when a win seemed impossible.  I clearly remember day 3, second match, start of game 2 against Extreme (the final match of the day for us & the deciding game for who will be on the podium the next afternoon)  and my girls looked at me and said “Coach I’m exhausted” as we switched sides and they sat down on the bench to rest their bodies.  I told them to listen, just for a second and  I could tell they thought I was crazy for a brief second, not giving them game advice or coaching tips in my 2 minutes prior to the next game start.   I said “shhhh….listen and pointed to the crowd”.  The hum of “Let’s GO KNIGHTS, Let’s GO KNIGHTS…” over and over like a heart beat is all you heard emulating from the massive crowd surrounding our court.   I told them “That’s for you!  They believe in you!  I believe in you! So go put it all out on the floor and change your stars!”   All the girls immediately popped up out of their seats cheering, energized and said “Let’s do this coach!”   It was truly a breath-taking feeling experiencing all the consistent love and support for the team and the club on this ride.  It shows what we’ve always known, that KVA is unique and is honestly a REAL FAMILY.   Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to everyone who came out to support Knights and partake in this incredible journey.  We couldn’t have done it without you.
