Headband #4- Flowers, lace and pink

Remember I said I was going to make something with the leftover scraps from this?

Here is what I came up with. Everyone has been into headbands lately, so I decided to join in as well. I love headbands, but only ever end up wearing them every once in a while, so maybe this will motivate me to wear them more!

Started with my leftover scrap of rosette flowers, I cut off the ends of the scraps so I would just have about two flowers.

Next, I added some pink lace trim that I picked up at an antique shop almost a year ago (I knew I would use it eventually. I used some hot glue to glue it onto my headband, made 4 loops and glued and then continued and made another four loop flower right next to it. (Make sure not to put your finger onto the hot glue to push the lace into it like I did, kinda burns. Use a pencil or something instead.)

Next, I glued on my scrap flowers over the lace and the end! You have a new super cute headband! I think this one would look really cute on babies.

Edit: I showed this to my husband and was like "isn't it so cute?" He told me it looks like a garter belt.

Heaband #3- Knit Knot Headband

This is one of my simple and favorite items that I sell in my shop. You could buy one or learn to knit your own.

Materials Needed:

Size 7 knitting needles

small amount of yarn

Pattern:

CO 8 stitches

Knit in garter stitch until piece measure 18 inches.

Hold piece around your head. Select where you would like your knot. Usually in the front, to the side, is where I put the know.

Now your piece is smaller. Continue knitting again until piece measure 18 inches again or until it fits your head.

Cast off stitches. Sew together ends of headband.

Questions- ask! It's pretty easy and could made all different sizes of widths.

Headband #2- Orange fabric with a fluffy flower

Here's my #2, I made this out of another old shirt from high school. Wrap the headband with fabric as seen in #1.

Now we are going to make a fluffy fabric flower. Cut out circles out of your fabric of choice. I needed about 9 circles to make my flower. First I glued (with just a tiny drop of hot glue) two flowers together. Next I folded three circles length ways and place them over each other to make a triangle in the middle (this is hard to explain, but you can kinda see in the third pic). Next fold each circle 3 times and do for of these. Glue the four folded circles to top of flower and add your button of choice.

... and there you go, beautiful, simple new headband!

Hair!??!?!

So I have gotten so many comments saying how much people like my hair, even my messy bun when I have no idea what to do with my hair look. I have been growing out my hair for the last 18 months or so to donate it to looks of love. And it is pretty close to being long enough! So excited to chop it off and get a new look!

But.. I need your help! I know I want it short, but how short is the question. I had a pixie cut for a good year about 3 years ago and loved it- but it takes so much time to grow it out and gets really awkward and ugly looking.

Here are some looks that I have been thinking about. Let me know what you think or what your vote is. Also are you interested in voting for my new look, leave me a comment letting me know and maybe I get set up a poll.

(My husband thinks I should cut my hair like Emma Watson)

(Embarassing- but I love ANTM and I loved Brittani's new haircut they gave her on the show)

(Another idea- kinda a mix between short and really short)

Headband #1- Fabric wrapped with flowers

Okay so here's my #1, I really LOVE how this one turned out and am so excited to wear it. I have been planning on making this for months now, ever since I cleaned out my closet and found this old purple flowered shirt that is too small. I thought I could bring it to goodwill or I could make something!

First, cut strips of fabric and starting gluing them onto the headband.

You should end up with something like this, if you want add on some ribbon to give it a more finished look.

You could leave it like that (which I almost did) or add more too it. I decided on adding some fabric rosettes. I didn't get great pictures on how you make them, but basically cut a strip of fabric and starting gluing, wrapping the fabric around itself to make a rosette shape. First try without gluing until you get the hang of it.

There it is! So purple and pretty!

So here is my second "sewing project". I started off wanting to make something like this:

But my attempt as shown below looked more like I should fly away while wearing it, so I decided to scrap that idea and start over. Next time if I try again I will need flat lace to add on to the shirt and more of it.

So this is what I tried instead:

Making a lace flower. Thread your piece of lace onto your needle making sure to leave a piece of thread at the end. Once all the lace is on, pull your two pieces of thread nice and tight and tie in a knot. Use your needle again (see- we are sewing), to sew together the pieces at each edge, to make it more flower like. I also sewed my whole flower nice and tight again.

Once you have your lace flower sewn nicely together- add a cute button to give it a more polished look and TA DA: you have a cute shirt!

Don't you love my new hat my husband bought me last weekend on our little vaca? ( I do).
Note: you could add more than one esp. if you make it smaller than the one I made. But for the size I made, I felt less was more.

3,2,1, Craft- Tshirt makeover

Don't you just love rosettes? I love making headbands or adding them to shower curtains so when I saw this, I knew I could do something similar or close to it.

So starting my search and thinking how I was going to making rosettes look that good, I stumbled upon some of this at JoAnn's with their ribbon.

Rosettes in a nice lacy chain and a decent price (especially if you have a 50% coupon)! I think I bought about a half yard of it.

Ok so here is my sewing project I worked on today- super fast and super cute!
What I started with:

and then this is what I did:

Lay out your rosettes and pin them onto your tshirt.

Then time to sew! I sewed them on by hand, sewing first on the inside edge of the rosettes and next sewing on the outside edge. You could maybe use a sewing machine if you have a nice one that would work well, but I didn't trust mine to do the job.

and TA DA!

Maybe if you're lucky I will post a pic of me wearing it when it is not dark out and I don't look such a mess. P.S. Stay tuned to see what I do with the leftover couple inches.

Edit: (note the sun was in my eyes). p.s. I started with v-neck and it kinda turned into more of a scoop neck after I added on the rosettes.

Knit flower tutorial

A knit flower is a perfect addition to a headband, earwarmer, or just to wear in your hair!

What you need

yarn (small but good amount)

knitting needles (I usually use size 7)

scissors

button

needle to sew in your ends

Pattern

Cast on a large amount of stitches, I usually cast on over 80 atleast for a good size flower.

1. Knit one row

2. K1, K2 tog and repeat until end of row.

Continue this pattern until you have under 15-20 stitches. next row repeat row #2, next row K2 tog for the whole row. continue this until you have under 8 stitches. Cut yarn and pull yarn through with needle. Make sure to leave about 6 inches. Your flower is not complete, next you will have to wrap up the flower to make it look like a flower shape. Sew together to maintain the flower shape. Add the embellishment of your choice and Ta Da! A knit flower!

Bathroom Shelf Makeover

When you live in a tiny trailer- there is not a lot of room for storage or basically no room! So what to do? For my bathroom I decided I was in desperate need of some help- I found this old shelf from my in-laws (hopefully they aren't missing it) and decided I could use it. But the stars and moons don't really match my decor soo much.

So first I used some scrapbooking paper (after spending like 20 minutes in Michaels trying to decide what color would match or whether I should get three different colors). Since the length of what I was trying to cover up is longer than the paper, I had to cut it and try to match it up the best I could.

Then use some handy dandy modge podge and glue your paper onto the back of the shelf. Add all pieces to cover up the entire back part.

Ta Da! Now you have a shelf that you can use and more storage! Come back soon to see a post featuring my total bathroom makeover. And some goodies I found at a local antique shop to go on my shelf!

Finding some sort of order: Fridge Makeover

Ahhhh- don't you hate how messy your fridge can get- I have always wanted a cute and organized fridge. I made cute magnets to hold up my stuff but it is still a mess.

So I made one small attempt- I am crossing my fingers that it will help and I will just get better at not putting everything on my fridge or even worse- on top of it.

So here is my attempt- First I took everything off- and threw stuff away! Next I glued ribbon (with permission from my husband- I think I could just rip it off if I wanted to) on the freezer portion of my fridge to organize the random things on my fridge. Also I made a little pocket to put all our coupons in instead of using a magnet for each one. And lastly- I cleaned off the top of my fridge (if you look closely in this picture it still has junk on it- but was cleaned after the photo was taken)!

YAY- Success!

Kitchen decor

These are my old "EAT" phrase letters that used to be in our apartment. Now with our new place they just don't fit, so its time for new color schemes. This is an easy project and I like the look of letters and phrases. My husband, kinda thinks its weird, but oh well.

Step One: Choose your word or phrase and buy some letters. I bought mine at Micheal's and also I bought some cheap scrap-booking paper that matched my new yellow kitchen.

Step two: Trace the letters on the back on the paper, make sure that you trace it the right way so when your turn the paper over the letter won't be upside down (uhhhh, I hope that makes sense).

Step 3: Paint the sides of the letters and some of the top, you don't have to paint the whole letter since you will put the paper down on the top. Let it dry (it takes some time).

Step 4: While your paint is drying, cut out your letters! and then wait some more.

Step 5: Once the paint is dry now it is time for mod podging. Paint the top of the letters with mod podge and then place the paper letters on the top. Use some more mod podge and paint the top of the letters again with the scrapbooking paper on. Now more waiting!

Step 6: Once it is dry, choose the spot and hang up your phrase!

House Makeover Part 2: Living Room

Here is a pic of our old living room: old tv entertainment center that took up one whole wall, barely any seating, and our bookcase but black.

TA DA! Here is our new one- I love it. We painted one wall Robust Raisin and than the others a lighter shade of that color. Also new couch, new tv, new entertainment center, and our bookcase that went through 40 hours of sanding and removing painting to now nice and stained.

One of my favorite parts of the room, vinyl and felted circle wreath made from old sweaters.

Don't you just love lounging in a room that you put some much work in?

Knit bow tutorial

Ever wonder what to do with your left over yarn after you knit a hat or scarf, well here is a idea for you and one of my favorite accessories!

Materials needed:

size 7 knitting needles

some left over yarn- very small amount

Pattern:

CO 12 stitches (if you want it bigger than pictured, cast on some more!)

Knit 10 rows (if you want you bow extra long than knit more- just make sure you remember how many rows you knit)

After knitting your 10 rows now it is time to decrease. It is important that you decrease in the middle of the bow- not at the ends! knit 5 stitches than knit 2tog. knit another row and than continue the decrease until you have 8-9 stitches left.

After you decrease it is time to increase again. You will need to increase the same amount that you decreased. For example I decreased 3 stitches so I had a total of 9 left and so I need to increase by 3 so I will end up with my original 12. The best way to increase is to K1FB. Knit one row and then continue increasing every other row.

Knit 10 more rows (or however many rows you knit before decreasing). Then cast off!

After you sew the ends into the back of your bow (very important), cut some extra yarn to wrap around your bow (about 20 inches). Tie it in a knot around the back of the bow. Make sure to have one short end and then the long end you will use to wrap around your bow.

Wrap your yarn around the bow as much as you like or until you are left with about 4 inches.

Tie the to ends of the yarn together in a knot and then weave ends in.

TA DA! Now you have a super cute bow to wear in your hair, or attach to your sweater or even your purse!

House Makeover - Part 1

				My husband and I moved into our home almost 1 year ago- it is crazy how fast time goes and tonight I am so excited because I finally finished painting our last room (kitchen, more to come)!
Before we moved in- nice and empty, tan paint on the walls


After we moved in- messy and nothing hiding our messy closet!

And now for the after:

Anyway here is our finished bedroom- new paint of the walls- a blueish/silver- such a nice color for the bedroom, new dressers (to us),

old curatins (now replaced with a dark silver/blue to match the walls), our quilt made by my grandmother,

and curtains to cover up a closet (which came minus doors)!

Next for our bedroom some new pictures frames (stay posted!)
